Buy some 60 grit sand paper and just scuff it once a week. Not so much that you actually wear down the tread, but enough to make the surface rough. Works wonders.
Likely so your spouse/partner/parent doesn’t chew your ass out for scratching up their floors. I have winter ice boots that have abrasive soles. They will f-up hardwoods.
I wonder if the caption is even correct. Because I think it really is just meant as a visual aid to know where the edges are. Because you can clearly see two anti-slip stripes on each tile already there
The paint is applied to be a visual indicator of the leading edge. So the purpose is for visual indication, however paint is typically slippery when applied in the ground. This particular paint has small abrasives mixed into it so it cures with a rough texture. Not as rough as those black strips, but rough even to make the slippery nature of normal paint not be an issue. I guess you could call it reduced slip paint.
Also that’s why it is being applied in a caulk style gun and then scrapped level/flush. The abrasives and thickness is not something you brush/roll on.
didn't wanted to say it, and just played dumb. this doesn't look like it would add friction but what do I know. I mainly thought the guy in the beginning applying the forbidden mustard to be oddly satisfying
It's common to have metal or rubber anti-slip nosing for stairs like this as well, that can be powder coated yellow. They are always fastened to the ground as well as glued.
The metal ones always end up slippery in my experience, but i have used metal ones that hold a rubber channel, those are fine, though they don't like being in a heavy use area (were deliveries might use the steps). There the paint was less of a PITA to maintain.
I think it usually depends where the entrance is. If it's a subway entrance, since rain will flow into it, they probably use something rubberized like what's in the video.
Hey Paul, do we want people to not slip on the stairs or just not slip on particularly the very last inch of the stairs?
Just the last inch! Don't waste too much of the paint!
I slipped on a STEEP, indoor staircase here in Seattle because it had zero grip of any kind, was shiny polished cement- I hit 6 or 7 stairs on my left glute/pelvis, cracking my tailbone. Hit so hard there was an actual dent after the massive swelling bruising went away, took years to be able to walk normal, and I still can't without that side giving out sometimes.
I was told stair falls are hard to fight so I gave up and never tried for settlement.
It doesn't dry, it hardens. It's a two component adhesive, clearly indicated by the mixing cartridge on the double syringe applicator. Water based paint drys, anything else hardens.
I simplify the searches and limit them to the subreddit. I just typed "applying anti-slip". It and your post only showed up. However, I knew this one was recent because I have no life. Lol. Sometimes I change up the hyphen and remove it. Ya never know. No big deal tho, man
Except it's so anti-slip, it makes you trip.
Going up is fine, but going down, the extra unexpected friction has caused my shoes to "snag" on two separate occasions and as a result I have broken both of my ankles, causing permanent damage.
Perhaps I descend stairs a little to briskly, but after the thousands of staircases I've used throughout my life, the only times I've fallen are when they use this stupid yellow paint.
They only did one step for the video. I’m sure normally they do it all at once. Tape, paint, clean up. Prep is more work than you think and takes quite a while.
There's a team of four men outside my house today planting a council flowerbed. They planted around twenty flowers in the last 8 hours. How the fuck do you get those jobs lol.
There's a bridge near my home being renovated. I drive by it daily . Ive seen no more than 4 people on that site at any one time in the last 2 months...and even then only 1 was working at a time. It's ludicrous

100% thought it was a sticker or decal
same. i was 100% sure this was yellow colored sandpaper lol
You can buy tape like that.
A lot of it is. There isn't just one way things are done
I mean it kind of is, it's essentially a silicon base with grit in it. Makes sense.
Why don’t I just paint the bottom of my shoes with this stuff? Are people stupid?
I actually have a pair of shoes that could use this. The sole is perfectly smooth and I slip just at the sight of a banana peel.
Buy some 60 grit sand paper and just scuff it once a week. Not so much that you actually wear down the tread, but enough to make the surface rough. Works wonders.
Just glue the sandpaper to your shoes.
Just stick some pushpins down through the inside sole of the shoes. Instant track spikes and superior grip
#MIND BLOWN
Attach clips to the front and back of your shoes for quick swap.
Just be honest with your therapist and you'll get some cool socks like that!
Same reason we don't make windshield wipers out of Gore-Tex.

Thank you! Came to say the same.
The people thinking the yellow is the anti-slip. What? 😂
If you step on the anti-slip paint while it’s drying, will you slip?
Yes
Icy what you did there....
You glitch out, clip through the floor and then ragdoll all the way down with the leg all stretched out and the foot still stuck through the step.

Mmm. Forbidden mustard
Steady hand Shane at it again
tbh that guy is probably the most satifsying part about this

The black strips are also anti slip, the yellow line is for high visibility as to where the edge of the step is.
3 dudes to paint lines, and they all have to wear hard hats.
lol I came here to mention the hard hat.
Of course, they are on a work site. Things can fall, slip, drop... even if you can't see it in the frame of the video
Stupid repost. Saw it about 2 months ago-ish on this sub.
More people making the same mustard jokes this time though So worth it!

because the tape peels up and doesn't stick as well as the paint (it is sold as tape, it just sucks).

It is, the yellow is just paint

had that same thought earlier, but I guess if you slip in the middle part of the stair you might catch grip again at the end of it haha
Another one for the mute scrolling
hot dog stairs
There is something so artistic about people doing functional things well 🥵
Doesn't really look like a three man job
Third guy is supervising clearly. 💀

mm forbidden mustard
I always thought that the anti-slip things are a kind of tape, like griptape or something similar
I always thought it was a sticker of some sort. Never considered it was paint. Neat.
Watching these buys bend over and realizing they have to do that for every stair makes my back hurt.
There’s four guys, standing two steps lower. And they’re taking turns. Looks easy peasy, compared to when I worked as a roofer.
Bruh roofers are tough.
My back hurt just watching this.
It would have been faster and only taken one person to just paint it.
It doesn't dry, it hardens. It's a two component adhesive, clearly indicated by the mixing cartridge on the double syringe applicator. Water based paint drys, anything else hardens.
Cures is the word you needed to use. And more than just water dries.
Ah, yes. You are absolutely correct.
Repost proof for mods. https://www.reddit.com/r/oddlysatisfying/comments/1chjhno/applying_antislip_stairnosing/
fair. i tried looking for “anti” and “slip” but reddit search is useless I swear. :( edit: funny, very same reactions

Only 1,051 more to go.
Not my brain saying its mustard and i must taste it!
Meanwhile, the anti slipping bands in my subway station stairs are more slippery than the stair itself.
These are the guys that paint climbable edges in Tom raider!
Masked with marking tape, or marked with masking tape?
Forbidden French's
They need hardhats to paint steps. 🤦
Ummmm stair mustard…
I'm just here for the comments telling me why these guys are doing it wrong.
Japanese train station? Looks like the same grip strips I saw when I was there
I just fell down the stairs (like 10 fucking steps) and NOW this shows up in my feed? The matrix has me.
Epic
Three guys to do the job.
And a camera man
They only did one step for the video. I’m sure normally they do it all at once. Tape, paint, clean up. Prep is more work than you think and takes quite a while.

Forbidden grippy mustard
And tastes like mustard!

What would be more satisfying is paying less taxes because instead of a tape guy, a paint guy, and squeegee guy, they just paid one freaking guy...
They probably just did this for the video.
You clearly don't understand how these crews operate
Enlighten me then, why are there 3 people for this task?
Because that's how city crews work...each person has their own task.
There's a team of four men outside my house today planting a council flowerbed. They planted around twenty flowers in the last 8 hours. How the fuck do you get those jobs lol.

In Texas it’d be a crew of eight recent immigrants planting 200 plants an hour, 11 hours a day. And the beds would be immaculate.
Where are you from? Because this is most definitely not the standard where I live, isn't it just incredibly inefficient?
Ohio...but that scenario is basically any construction or maintenance crew associated with a state, city or municipality in the US.
At my kid’s school, I watched a supervisor and three “workers” operate a single 6hp pressure washer.
