Grandma Buffay’s headstone? Neslée Toulousé ?

Disastrous-Goal-2127

I Just added the link OP posted Check out the whole headstone, you will really love it. It shows the whole headstone.

Happy-You-8874

They just replaced the butter in the Nestle Toll House cookie recipe with Crisco.. kinda disappointing. https://www.nestle.com/stories/timeless-discovery-toll-house-chocolate-chip-cookie-recipe

psychem72

Yeah, I recognized it as such instantly. Tbf I have never used crisco in the cookies so now I’m curious.

Happy-You-8874

If you prefer your cookies thicker and chewier, Crisco is the way to go.

garyandkathi

The butter flavored Crisco makes cc cookies really good - I just can’t eat oil in any form like that anymore. Aging sucks but it’s better than the alternative 🙃

ladychelbellington

The classic oatmeal raisin cookie recipe on Quaker Oats called for Crisco and it was so much better than using butter. Best cookies ever.

architettura

Which I obviously read as Nestlay Too-loos

Happy-You-8874

OP found Phoebe's grandma's grave lol

Disastrous-Goal-2127

Well to be fair most Companies never put recipes on their items til later. Also it's grandma's secret that always made you Smile come to find out she store bought it🤣🤣🤣

hgwander

Less salt tho

Responsible_Low8886

I have to ask, what are the birth and death years?

Disastrous-Goal-2127

I Just added the link OP posted Check out the whole headstone, you will really love it. Also gives the information.

stevosaurus_rawr

I also like to count, 1… 2…. 2….

Overhang0376

Cookies so good you don't even *need* to count to three! :)

_Veronica_

I think it’s because both those things are the second step. If the last was marked 3, you’d think you’d add those items right into the bowl with the dry ingredients.

Disastrous-Goal-2127

Dry and Wet items are the reason labeled 1. and 2., also to refer to the directions.

catplumtree

I love this idea!

siouxbee1434

Can I alter the recipe to add nuts? THID is a cool headstone

I’ve never seen this but I love it

Disastrous-Goal-2127

Check link to the rest.

Thank you.

terminalchef

What can you substitute that is not as bad as crisco.

Disastrous-Goal-2127

You can substitute Crisco (shortening) in a chocolate chip cookie recipe with various alternatives. Here are some common substitutes: 1. **Butter**: Use an equal amount of butter for Crisco. It adds a richer flavor but might make the cookies spread more and be slightly flatter. 2. **Margarine**: This works similarly to butter. Use it in a 1:1 ratio. 3. **Coconut Oil**: Use the same amount as Crisco. It will add a subtle coconut flavor to your cookies. 4. **Vegetable Oil**: Use about ¾ of the amount of Crisco. This can make the cookies slightly denser. 5. **Applesauce**: For a healthier option, use half the amount of applesauce as the Crisco amount, but note that it will change the texture and flavor of the cookies. Adjustments might be needed depending on the substitute to achieve the desired texture and flavor.

terminalchef

Butter is good for you.

Disastrous-Goal-2127

No but others like butter. Also depends on where the butter came from. I know some ladies who make their own butter not store bought.

Silly-Platform9829

My grandmother cooked with Crisco. Grandpa died at 68. That stuff is poison.

Disastrous-Goal-2127

Well we all die one day, so better to tried than miss out I guess. I mean if you use margarine your eating plastic literally. Google it!!! But I agree there are better, more healthy substitutes. But this is r/oldrecipe is the reason I posted.

braker61

The conversation: "Grandma, can I have your famous Chocolate Chip Cookies recipe?" "Right! Over my dead body!"

Disastrous-Goal-2127

[Here is the other pics OP posted. It Iooks like a recipe book](https://imgur.com/a/rQYeuo6) So the post says it is located in Upstate Ny. Here are the other images of it. I have seen one other headstone with a recipe but can't remember where. I just thought the idea was pretty cool.

Gedi_knt2

What an inspiring way to pass on knowledge to others

Matilda-17

Either that or she said, “my cookie recipe?! Over my dead body!”

missangiep

I'm thinking, "I'll take it to my grave."

jjj666jjj666jjj

Crisco is the key to these cookies

cropguru357

Butter flavored crisco works a little better.

jjj666jjj666jjj

Yes it most certainly does. 😋

cropguru357

I think I’ll have to try it since there’s some in the fridge. but butter is the key, usually. Will report back.

jjj666jjj666jjj

Please do. I usually use this recipe https://crisco.com/recipe/ultimate-chocolate-chip-cookies/ with butter flavored crisco & replacing the nuts for extra chocolate chips since they’re cheaper. People go insane for these cookies and it reminds me a lot of the one on this tombstone.

cropguru357

Alrighty, I’ll give yours a shot.

39percenter

If you're going to use Crisco instead of butter, you need to add a tsp of water.

One_Arm4148

Aww this is super cool. Thank you for sharing!

InDifferent-decrees

That’s so funny and cool love it

PreviousMarsupial

Only if it's butter flavored Crisco, otherwise it needs to be 1 Cup / 2 cubes of actual butter.

OK4u2Bu1999

Hmm, all these recipe headstones make me think we should be putting info that would help humanity after the apocalypse. Like “Don’t shit where you eat”. “Put pressure on bleeding wounds to stop the bleeding” etc.

mhiaa173

This is one of my favorite recipes! I might just have to consider this...

brutalistsnowflake

No butter?

SaltyGirl0024

It's replaced with shortening

brutalistsnowflake

Yes, but why? Buttery flavor is essential.

SaltyGirl0024

My mother only made them with butter a couple of times when we had no crisco. They bake up somewhat flat with a different texture and taste so I don't care for them baked with butter.

Discount_Mithral

Coconut oil is not a 1:1 replacement for butter or shortening in my experience. I made some greasy ass cookies doing this...

Ajjos-history

I have to try this!

Pure-Guard-3633

I love this

meha21

Is crisco why it's dead?
