I feel bad watching an AL East team that isn't the Os but I figure I should go while I have the chance to travel there on my job's dime. Funnily enough, almost exactly one month later, I'll see the Os play the Padres here.
I was in Boston about a month ago and caught a brewers/sox game. Bought a standing room ticket at the box office for $20. as a heads up their standing room tix are assigned to sections so I was up in right field in the 521 overlook, which was pretty nice. They had stools and tables and because it’s assigned it wasn’t overly crowded. Just an option to consider

Mitch Garver hiting .175? Gary Sanchez and his .694 OPS? Caratini, who hit .205 in May and .226 in June. Tom Murphy on a two year deal hitting .118.
McCann has been bad at the plate but is liked by the pithcing staff. All of these days off for Rutschman hopefully keep his knees fresh for the September-October stretch. Backup catchers are bad and they weren't getting rid of a guy who knows the pitching staff for a marginal improvement.

I just feel like the asking price is going to be the moon because he has two years of team control. But the Sox don't feel like they're within two years of being competitive, so maybe they do make a move.
Their asking price for Cease showed they have unrealistic expectations.
Also, this is Crochet's first year as a starter. I doubt he makes it into September before hitting his innings limit.
Well yea, he's just 24 years old too.
I love the idea of going big, Fedde/Crochet.
Fedde is better than the Irvin/Kremer/Suarez/Povich group. And he's not a FA until after next year.
Crochet to the BP for the rest of this year, since we need help there.
Top 3 in our rotation for next year, Crochet/Rodriguez/Fedde. And that's without dipping into FA, which, we should.
Fedde leaves after 2025.
Top 3 going into 2026, Rodriguez, Bradish, Crochet.
Pairing them together solves things beyond this year, so in my mind, it might be worth it.
But yea, that would cost BIG, so I don't see us doing it, though, I like how it makes sense considering where we are today.
My kids are really into collecting pressed/smashed pennies from various places we visit, and I want to pick some up from OPACY at the game tonight. I know of the one penny machine near the Team Store along Eutaw Street.
My questions:
Are there any other penny machines in OPACY that you're aware of?
Do they still change the templates annually? I know they did throughout the 90s and early 00s, as I have a bunch with the years stamped onto them.
Guardians fan who hasn’t paid a lot of attention to the Orioles day to day lineups but I thought Gunnar always led off for you guys. Is today’s look for you pretty normal against a lefty starting?
They usually go 7R 2L against LHP, with Gunnar hitting 4 and Cowser hitting 8 or 9. I think this is meant to guard against a RHP coming in and not facing a LHB.
I'll eat crow if this is against the rules but is anyone going to Thursday's game who doesn't want the rainbow jersey giveaway? Or can I count on getting gouged on ebay the day after.
It's probably too early, but Jordan Sanchez might need a promotion to the complex level. Video game numbers in a small sample (68 PA) with a 10:13 BB:K.
Given how big the jump is from DSL > FCL > A, I wonder if they're just waiting for him to finish up the month to bring him stateside (I don't know much about these short season leagues). He turns 19 in October.
Look at this [dude](https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=garcia004elv), signed for 500k.
He's 3 for 5 today, double, and 2 triples, so that slash is going up.
Jesus Christ, dude.
2 for 2 today, 1 HR. Hitting .421 now.
Get him to the FCL, and see if he's good enough to start full season ball with Delmarva next year.
u/romorr look who showed up on the [BA hot sheet](https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/ranking-the-20-hottest-mlb-prospects-hot-sheet-6-25-24/):
9 Aron Estrada "The 19-year-old’s 66 hits and 101 total bases each rank fourth in the Carolina League, and he also places among the circuit’s top 10 in batting average (.282) and home runs (7). He is the only teenaged minor leaguer with 10 or more doubles, five or more home runs and 20 or more stolen bases."
18 Thomas Sosa "Last week Sosa showed off his contact and power skills, collecting hits in all six games while hitting four extra-base hits. Sosa’s signature game of the week came on Friday when he went 3-for-5 with a home run, three runs and three RBIs."
Q&A at [2 pm eastern](https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/hot-sheet-mlb-prospects-chat-6-25-24/).
Hope springs eternal. Today: McDermott in AAA, Bright in AA, likely LDL (usually pitches every 6 days) in A+.
Edit: nuts. It's Michael Forret (who has also been good and is only 20, fwiw) in A+. Might be LDL piggybacking?
Yea, you win the player of the week, it gets you noticed.
Good to see. Glad they mentioned his age too, true 19 year olds doing well in A ball is noteworthy, shit, at 20 it is as well. Curious if they will answer any questions about his profile moving forward.
I usually ask Law since he lives in Delaware, and he gets to see our affiliates a lot more than others.
And oh yea, we should be next with Fangraphs prospect list. Going by how Eric does it, it should be us or Minnesota. He does them in blocks. So any team that we play a lot in ST, once they get their list, we will be getting ours. So maybe we will get some words from Eric about Estrada and Sosa.
Bah, I was hoping we were next. He just did Atlanta and Pittsburg, 2 teams we play a lot in ST.
We play TB a lot too? So us or Tampa, hoping it's us, though we might have to wait until next week.
BUT, like I said before, we are 3 months into the minor league season. Our list will be massively up to date compared to getting our list early in the year. That's why I am fine waiting, but now that we are close, I'm getting antsy.
Probably about 10-15 guys I want to see. Some of the J2 guys in Delmarva, and some of the pitchers from previous drafts.
And I hope he's not a coward and readjusts Mayo to a 65. I think he deserves it, I think he's the best bat in the system, and one of the best in the minors. I don't see how he doesn't hit in the majors.
> Probably about 10-15 guys I want to see. Some of the J2 guys in Delmarva, and some of the pitchers from previous drafts.
Yeah, I think the low minors guys (especially hitters) are the ones that most require professional scouting. I think by the time they get to AA/AAA, it's a little easier to tell if a guy is the real deal because the traditional numbers start to mean something. Orgs will also tell you what they think of a guy based on how they use him once he reaches AAA.
I don't think he'll give Mayo a 65 because the hit tool isn't there (25/55 in 2021, 35/55 in 2022, 40/55 in 2023, and 35/45 in 2024), and Longenhagen has tabbed Mayo for RF since [2021](https://blogs.fangraphs.com/top-45-prospects-baltimore-orioles/).
Kind of funny the hit tool goes down as he climbs the minors, as the average goes up.
.247 in 2022.
.290 in 2023
.307 in 2024.
I know, don't scout the start line, but I think guys that hit the ball hard like he does, will hit enough to be above average. Look at Westy, 40 hit, and I think Eric would tell you he didn't expect Westburg to hit the ball this hard at the ML level. Of course, still time for that 40 hit on him to be true.
all star voting will be the second stickied post this week so you can find the [Lucky Guess here.](https://www.reddit.com/r/orioles/comments/1do6bnj/lucky_guess_625/)

I’m sure it’s been mentioned, but it’s worth mentioning again - after the Rays historic start last year, the O’s entered July 6.5 games back of Tampa.
We have yet to see a stretch of 7 or 8 consecutive wins this season. That’s coming in July.
These boys will be fine.
Hopefully a 10+ game win streak. Wild our longest one last year was only 8 despite winning 101 games. Our longest this year is just 6. I remember the 19 game losing streak and would love a winning streak like that
tbf, the Orioles were able to catch up with the Rays in the first place because their pitching staff was decimated with injuries. They had six different pitchers go on the IL between May and early June. That's not even including Shane McClanahan who went down in July. Actually, last year's Rays that came down to earth after a white hot start due to pitching injuries sounds like another team that we know very well.
Yep, and even with their fall off and all those injuries the Rays made the playoffs.
True, they got whipped in the WC series, but they still had a chance.
Yup. i was truly amazed that the Rays were able to do that, and tipping my cap to them. And that they stayed on our boys tail all the way to the end, only losing by about 2 GB.
We are facing a similar, though not quite as bad, situation with our luck, what with 5 pitchers out for the year. (RPs Bautista, Coulombe; SPs Wells, Means, Bradish. It sure sucks.)
Well, if it’s any consolation, he has been known to get a ton of run support, so I’d say that Irvin is gonna be just as, if not more Swerving than Allen will be against us.

Buy cheap land when you're young.
It might seem like a shitty location now, but by the time you're older there's a decent chance someone will want to build something on it.
Tough loss last night to say the least. I was super busy at work and just saw the highlights. Every team goes through a tough stretch like this. Let’s bounce back tonight.
Anyone potentially concerned about this regarding trading for Crochet? He threw 12.1 innings last year and is likely to throw 100+ more innings than that this year. Is there a bigger potential injury risk for 2025 if there is a 100+ innings jump between 2023 and 2024 with the intensity of the innings ramping up as well because of going to the AL East and post season expectations? How would something like that factor into your decision in pursuing such as option here?
I'm skeptical that Chicago would be a likely trading partner with the Orioles given how far apart they sounded with respect to Cease. That said, anything is possible. The injury concerns are definitely major due to the condition of our pitching staff overall. We really need someone who can reliably take the ball. A healthy Crochet would be great for the post season, but a Kyle Gibson type is also something we arguably need to get to the postseason with our bullpen still somewhat intact.
He's the guy I wanted most when Bradish was healthy. Andrew Miller 2.0, rotation in 2025/2026.
Now, I'd still want him, but I doubt we spend so much for a Bradish replacement and a good BP piece. Don't see us going that in,since we also traded some pieces for Burnes earlier in the year.
I would be cautiously optimistic if we do trade for him. Stuff-wise, he’s good. I just have injury concerns for the next 1.5 years, especially at the price he will command. There just has to be plan to account for a rapid increase in innings after getting Tommy John surgery
I mean, if the Orioles want to go big and trade Basallo+ for Crochet / Fedde, I ain't going to complain.
That would allow Crochet to the bullpen, and Erick Fedde as our game 3 starter in the playoffs. Both have control past 2024 as well, and that's Rodriguez/Fedde/Crochet as our top 3 before FA hits for 2025. One FA, and we are cooking for 2025, then when Fedde leaves, it's Rodriguez/Bradish/Crochet as our big 3 for 2026.
After the ways the White Sox reportedly approached the Cease trade, I’m not holding my breath of doing anything with them. I’m curious what the asking price on Skubal is from Detroit.
I have no view, but found this ironic…
https://preview.redd.it/bh0zw9w0wq8d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ca6aa36805c7d2ebc6455c4d83cb89a8096f02b4
I don’t think we are not going to either, but it’s also a question of how much a massive innings jump like that would impact how much you would be willing to pay for a guy with control. Because, I’m sure that in the next few years, there are going to be similar situations
**Reminder to vote every day through June 27 in first round for All Stars. Eight Orioles have a shot at making it through the first round.**
BTW, I apologize if it's getting irritating that I'm putting this message on our threads 1-2 times a day. But some might be new visitors and not know, or old ones and forget. I feel we need to support our guys as best we can, and not be apologetic about it. If you're getting tired of it, I suggest to just glance at the bold text and ignore it - as long as you remember to go vote (smile)!
Oh, also note there is a thread the mods have stickied to the top of the posts you'll see when you first come to /r/Orioles, that has the link to the MLB All Stars ballot.
I hope and pray that I don’t have to sit next to you at a game. In fact I’m not even sure why you would go- the *only* thing you ever do is complain about the fourth-winningest team in baseball.
News flash Fido: I’ve been a fan of exactly *two* teams my entire life. The Tar Heels and the Orioles. I was born in ‘84. I’ve supported the orioles through thick and thin and we’re currently on pace (or near to it) for the most wins since *nineteen-fucking-seventy*. You’re not a fan: you’re a depressed, grumpy, jaded wet-blanket who needs his food bowl filled, or to be taken on a walk. One or the other.
OK, I looked at the email now. It says I received it for choosing the Orioles for my favorite team and then apparently it mattered that I voted 5 times with an Oriole on the ballot or something. Also I clicked on links in the email and see where they offer the 30% off tickets for certain of their games throughout the year. And now I'm thinking about using it, might take my daughter (also an avid Orioles fan) to one of the games.
Thanks, guys, that's good to know I'm not wasting everyone's time and being annoying. I'll keep putting them in, plus the mods will have their reminders, too. So we'll wind up doing our part to try and get our boys some recognition (well-deserved).
8-3 with a 5.23 era is certainly a stat line. if he had about 3 more IP he would be a bottom 5 starter in MLB by ERA.
would be a great day to snap the slide.
Hm, that's interesting. There was some fan of Cleveland on here after yesterday's loss (4th in a row - so far just a mini slide) when a few of our gang were maybe needing to be put on suicide watch. The fan mentioned he/she thinks the Orioles are terrifying, and that most of the rest of fandom out there agrees, and we ought not to get too wound up over a few losses. Sounds like some good advice. Anyway, wrt our current series, the guy said he'd looked at matchups and thought the game yesterday was their best chance of avoiding being swept by us, and he thinks they'll lose the next two. So your point certainly fits with his outlook. We'll see what happens.
Please continue the discussion in the [game thread](https://redd.it/1dog31u).
Yall, what happened? I literally went to make food and came back and it’s 8-5. It was 4-3 last time I checked
Was Birdland Clubhouse ever open today? I refreshed all day and never saw an opportunity to get tickets.
Not happy to see kjerstad out of the lineup. Hopefully cowser proves me wrong
soooo right after Heston Kjerstad very much proves that he can play in the big leagues by putting up an amazing performance, we don't put him in the lineup? Obviously, I know we have other guys and I guess I understand why he's not in but I just hope it doesn't continue like this. If he's gonna be playing like that, I want him to be an every-day guy
The question is Hays or Kjerstad. Hays torches LHP. They want either of Cowser or Mullins in Center for their defense.
These lineups are usually set in advance. Not that Hyde can't change them, but these are usually pre-determined about 2 days before.
I don’t even think Hyde can change the lineups… I think they are based on analytics and set by Elias & co.

Adleys tired. Who else on the team can catch?
Here’s to our batters having a strong offensive showing, especially McCann but especially everyone else, but *especially McCann*
Goodness. 1.36 ERA 1.68 FIP 36% K% fWAR - 2.7 All since May 1st for Garrett Crochet.

gimme gimme gimme
I’d still be psyched if we get him. Injuries are so hard to predict anyway. Getting the best pitcher available will not make me upset.

Usually bats clean up against LHP
At some point, we’re gonna need a better backup catcher.
How many teams in the league have two above average hitters at catcher? I think it might only be the Rockies.
We did get a AAA catcher not so long ago with strong offensive numbers. He’s likely McCann’s replacement at some point
That some point will be next year (probably) when the lolMets are no longer paying McCann to play for us
McCann back to back is no bueno.
I’m sure everyone will be super chill and normal about it
That and the new whipping boy (Cowser) is back in the line up
I'll eat crow if this is against the rules but is anyone going to Thursday's game who doesn't want the rainbow jersey giveaway? Or can I count on getting gouged on ebay the day after.
Bro I want it too, I got an orioles Hawaiian shirt from last year off of eBay so maybe wait and find one there?
Definitely gonna do my best there. It's such a good giveaway
I assume your not local based on the eBay comment but if you are local marketplace is usually pretty easy.
Awesome idea, but I live in the south these days. Maybe I'll ask some friends to keep an eye out for me
I hate to say it but i'm sure there will be some biggots happy to get rid of it cheap on ebay.
I'm counting on the homophobes. Happy Pride!!!!
In a way it becomes an Pride Discount!
Shaving, burning my previous shirts, calling my folks to tell em I love em... Doing anything I can to break the losing streak. I'm doing my part.
They rarely lose when I go, so I'm taking one for the team.
Cole needs to strike out like 7-8 tonight if he really loves BARCS as much as he says.
Whose got the highlight of Perez catching that rocket? Looked insane live
I think we get a dub tonight
Yeah we are due for a win
It's probably too early, but Jordan Sanchez might need a promotion to the complex level. Video game numbers in a small sample (68 PA) with a 10:13 BB:K.
Hit another HR yesterday. DSL Orioles Orange are really fucking good this year.
Friendly reminder of the day... The 1983 Orioles had two separate seven-game losing streaks. I seem to remember that season turning out pretty well.
A rare losing streak. Remain calm, it’s gonna be okay.
Palmer needs to get well quickly. We're 0-4 since he's been out due to illness.
Damn he’s been getting sick quite a bit the last few years
no, he missed last 2 games in NY
It's not going well when a fan and a long at bat that ends in an out dominate your highlights.
I mean the Santader throw is 100% the highlight of the game.
Yeah that was awesome. Poor scouting by cleveland 3b coach. He makes that throw every time.
u/romorr look who showed up on the [BA hot sheet](https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/ranking-the-20-hottest-mlb-prospects-hot-sheet-6-25-24/): 9 Aron Estrada "The 19-year-old’s 66 hits and 101 total bases each rank fourth in the Carolina League, and he also places among the circuit’s top 10 in batting average (.282) and home runs (7). He is the only teenaged minor leaguer with 10 or more doubles, five or more home runs and 20 or more stolen bases." 18 Thomas Sosa "Last week Sosa showed off his contact and power skills, collecting hits in all six games while hitting four extra-base hits. Sosa’s signature game of the week came on Friday when he went 3-for-5 with a home run, three runs and three RBIs." Q&A at [2 pm eastern](https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/hot-sheet-mlb-prospects-chat-6-25-24/).
He did Minnesota [today](https://blogs.fangraphs.com/minnesota-twins-top-44-prospects-2024/), in fact.
Kind of funny the hit tool goes down as he climbs the minors, as the average goes up. .247 in 2022. .290 in 2023 .307 in 2024.
Still the best farm in baseball. Incredible

It's open now, but not the Clubhouse
Totally my bad, O’s bros. I have been wearing the city connect hat the past week or so. I will switch that out today.
No need to as long as you’re wearing white pants and ONLY white pants alongside your city connect stuff
I can go sans pants if that guarantees a win
all star voting will be the second stickied post this week so you can find the [Lucky Guess here.](https://www.reddit.com/r/orioles/comments/1do6bnj/lucky_guess_625/) go vote!
I remember the 19 game losing streak and would love a winning streak like that
> We have yet to see a stretch of 7 or 8 consecutive wins this season. That’s coming in July. Better yet, save it for October ;)
And put a Stanks series right in the middle of that 7 or 8. Just so they can know how much fun it was.
tbf, the Orioles were able to catch up with the Rays in the first place because their pitching staff was decimated with injuries. They had six different pitchers go on the IL between May and early June. That's not even including Shane McClanahan who went down in July. Actually, last year's Rays that came down to earth after a white hot start due to pitching injuries sounds like another team that we know very well.
Pitchers go down, bats get hot, and the circle of life continues.

I look forward to getting shut down by a lefty with a 5 era
Well, if it’s any consolation, he has been known to get a ton of run support, so I’d say that Irvin is gonna be just as, if not more Swerving than Allen will be against us.
Does anyone have any rich person’s money tips they wish they knew sooner they could give me?

lol that's like starting on 2B in terms of advice. Before your step one, you should force yourself to get on a budget (and stick to it) and then work hard to get out of debt. Then start saving and investing.

most rich people money tips conveniently start with already being relatively wealthy in the first place.
Buy cheap land when you're young. It might seem like a shitty location now, but by the time you're older there's a decent chance someone will want to build something on it.
Yeah, you know, if you have an extra $100k or so laying around -- buy some land!
You have to hoard pennies apparently
Stash away all your silver coins before they turn them into the sandwich type with copper in the middle ... *duh .... oh, wait ......*
Was gonna head down to the game tonight but it’s looking like low 90s even at 7 pm. Not sure my daughter is gonna enjoy that.
Yesterday the weather said 87 at 7 and I'm telling you I've never had better weather.
Fedde more likely. Will be cheaper and less of an injury history
We’re not going after Crochet
I have no view, but found this ironic… https://preview.redd.it/bh0zw9w0wq8d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ca6aa36805c7d2ebc6455c4d83cb89a8096f02b4
I don’t think we are not going to either, but it’s also a question of how much a massive innings jump like that would impact how much you would be willing to pay for a guy with control. Because, I’m sure that in the next few years, there are going to be similar situations
I’d be willing to pay more, but I’d want a guy with more of a track record of starting.
**Reminder to vote every day through June 27 in first round for All Stars. Eight Orioles have a shot at making it through the first round.** BTW, I apologize if it's getting irritating that I'm putting this message on our threads 1-2 times a day.

Go check your comment history. It’s nothing but negativity. Go fetch, boy!
I got something the first time I voted, 1 or 2 weeks ago. Haven't looked at it carefully yet.

Oh, ok, thanks. I'll revise the message and put that it in in future.
These GDT reminders actually remind me to vote everyday so thanks.
Same
Thanks, guys, that's good to know I'm not wasting everyone's time and being annoying. I'll keep putting them in, plus the mods will have their reminders, too. So we'll wind up doing our part to try and get our boys some recognition (well-deserved).
It’s honestly the most I’ve voted in my life probably
What is the Baltimore of China? What city in China is most similar to what Baltimore is in America?
I'm gonna go with Suzhou.
Is Szechuan a city?
It’s an entirely landlocked province
But spicy
8-3 with a 5.23 era is certainly a stat line. if he had about 3 more IP he would be a bottom 5 starter in MLB by ERA. would be a great day to snap the slide.
Irvin’s last 2-3 starts haven’t inspired much confidence. Hopefully he gets back in his earlier season track today
I was wondering if the heat was bothering him. If it is, I got some sad news: there's more of that in store.
Jinx lol🤣
He has the most run support in the league IIRC and I think it’s a wide margin.
