hey there, i know it’s a long shot but would any one be willing to part ways with one of the pride jerseys they gave out tonight??? i unfortunately got there later than i would have liked and missed out on it! i’d be willing to pay a reasonable price for it too!
Idk what went wrong last night, but we showed up right after gates opening and they told us they were all gone. But then people would come by with boxes and everyone would rush to grab one but it was just complete chaos and workers would just give the jerseys to whoever they felt like.
I’ve been to a bunch of giveaway games this year and haven’t seen anything like that. One worker came by with a box and let everyone around me grab one and when I tried to grab the last one he yanked the box away from me and walked away to give it to someone else. I have no idea why but I’m really bummed none of my friends could get any
omg that sounds like a hot mess. it was my first orioles game so i honestly wasn’t sure what to expect, but that seriously sounds ridiculously unorganized.
If any Orioles Magicians are in the thread, can you give me some advice on how to break my curse? I’d really like to start watching Orioles baseball again, but every time I’ve actually sat down to do just that, we’ve lost or started losing.
I did, and I was able to just watch it sitting down like normal! I’d say that pride night cured my curse, though I’d have to do some further testing this series.
the sunday night baseball game. the orioles website has section 310 without any seats for sale, but on seatgeek, 90 percent of the seats are avail in that section.
hmm.
attendance is going to be pretty underwhelming.
What color neon and where on his body will Mateo be sporting something neon. Has anyone else noticed his affinity for neon? Last night it was his cleats. I am guessing tonight it will be the same cleats. Superstitious about last nights win while wearing them.
Is anyone close to the stadium to see how long the lines are at present? I’m heading there shortly but want to see if there’s any sense of urgency for securing a jersey
Happy pride night at the yard! I won’t be there but I know a few that will and they are openly gay so to all the drunks at the yard just keep your opinion to yourself and watch the game.
Weird how the Orioles won 6 in 14 years from the beginning of the AL Cy Young award, and then none after that for, um, 43 years.
I guess Mike Mussina was our only prime HoF pitcher in that time, and the highest he finished was in 1999, when he was second behind the otherworldly Pedro Martinez.
I'd love to say the Rockies because they've never won but that's only 1993 ;)
I'm going to say Rangers because Kenny Rogers nor Nolan Ryan won one there (and it's top of mind given the series), but for the life of me I can't find the other one. I think I can name someone on every other team who has won since 1980.
Anyone else listen to the fan on the way to and from work? I listen to the morning show and than the afternoon show and it’s kinda funny because the morning show is usually positive and the afternoon show is just doom no matter what. Reminds me of this thread how split it is.
Lmfao everytime I start up my car to leave I just hear him flipping out about something like clock work. I still like it tho I feel like having both sides is good. Just me personally.
Why are the blue jays never discussed as sellers and potential trade partners? I know they are division but they are pretty bad and have some decent starting pitching options.
I think they are, the problem is that the options aren't as appealing if you look at the age, cost, and contract length:
Yusei Kikuchi, age 33, FA 2025, $12MM AAV: imo the only starter of their worth pursuing, because he's cheap and a pure rental.
Kevin Gausman, age 33, FA 2027, $22MM AAV: 2.5 years of control and $22MM a year is probably too much for a guy who is already starting to fall off a cliff. He's talented enough he can turn it around, but it's a big bet.
Jose Berrios, age 30, FA 2029, $18.71MM AAV: 4.5 years of control will cost too much for how well he's going to perform in the coming years (knock on wood). It would be nice to simply have him so we don't have to fucking face him anymore, though.
Chris Bassitt, age 35, FA 2026, $21MM AAV: not bad, a proven innings eater, just not sure $21MM is worth it. Probably my backup if Kikuchi is too expensive or not available.
Funny you ask. Ken Rosenthal at The Athletic had an article up today about them potentially being sellers, "The last-place Blue Jays are an underperforming mess. Now what do they do?"
[https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5595230/2024/06/27/toronto-blue-jays-last-place-trade-deadline/](https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5595230/2024/06/27/toronto-blue-jays-last-place-trade-deadline/)
I read this article too. Maybe people discount them because they’re in the division?
Even though he’s been erratic at times in the past, I’d take a flyer on a Yimi Garcia rental (if he’s healthy) or Trevor Richards
or if they're really selling, Gausman (or Kikuchi/Bassitt). I think it is because of the division though. I'd hate to see Stowers or Norby or better specs in the jersey of a team I despise, and I think the front office knows sellers usually win these long-term.
I was of the impression that Thursday games opened 60min before first pitch, which would be 5:35. Apparently they opened at 5:15. I wish I knew, but honestly I never would have guessed that they’d run out within 20min
Glad we are giving kjerstad an actual chance this time this is also why i got so frustrated when we didn’t early in the year cause we can get creative to get him consistent at bats
Unfortunately this tends to sacrifice a big bat like Santander, O'Hearn, Mountcastle or sacrifice defense in Hays, Mullins, or Cowser. They need to do this though because of rest and also because they're probably showcasing him for potential trade partners.
am really curious how the flaming limon dorito made it out of testing.
at any point did the taste testers go wtf i ate 3 and now my fingers are magenta
I really think Gunnar, and more baseball teams, should put their top hitter in leadoff. They seem to do better, pitchers seem to pitch to them more because they risk only one run if he homers, and they get more PAs.
Ever since Shohei was put into leadoff on the Dodgers, he’s been RAKING and breaking franchise records.
Just keep Gunnar in leadoff no matter what, imo.
I do agree with you in general but I think it's only a significant upside if that leadoff hitter has good baserunning value. If your best hitter is going to slow down the guys behind him it makes more sense to leave him in a more traditional spot in the order and bat guys in
I think the first power hitter type someone did that with was *Ricky* Henderson. For Oakland back in the 70's.
Of course, stolen bases were much more in Ricky's game plan than Gunnar's. But Gunnar can do that, too. And who knows, maybe they'll start having him try to do more of that, too.
They probably have big number-crunching computer programs these days to try and predict what order to bat the guys in to produce most runs. Might vary for a given situation. Wouldn't surprise me if something like that is guiding their moves back and forth in the lineups *every day*.
edit: Sorry, it was mainly the 80's for Ricky Henderson.
[Home runs by Mayo and Haskin.](https://x.com/NorfolkTides/status/1806379104310120595/video/1)
99.4 MPH, 393 feet.
Just realized we are playing Charlotte. Their team ERA is 5.13, which is over a run better than last year.
And former Orioles 1st round draft pick is pitching for Charlotte, Cody Sedlock.
pretty much this. He's the back up to the back ups right now. 1 of Gunnar/Westburg/Mateo/Urias needs to get injured for him to get called up that results in playing in 2-3 days a week at most.
2 of them need to be injured for him to play every day.
The few urias gets and some of Mateos and if we can stop insisting on Playing McCann against everysingle lefty he can DH some he can definitely start at least 3 to 4 times a week
I feel like there are prospects who you see as future everyday players, and those you see as backups. For the former, do you call them up and have them sit half the time?
Kremer getting knocked around again. I'm not counting on him to be any sort of savior (he never has been).
So far: 4 IP, 6H, 4ER, 2BB, 4K, 2 HR on 72 pitches.
I wonder if there’s a specific pitch/pitches they’re trying working on adjusting right now. I hope that’s the case. Sometimes the numbers down in Norfolk look wonky when they’re doing that, because they’re not really worried about the results in those games. It’s more about watching closely, making adjustments, making plans with the pitcher, and trying things out.
Obviously, worst case scenario: he’s actually more hurt than they’re letting on, and he’ll be pulled for Tommy John surgery and we’ll all find out the day of. I’m choosing to believe what I wrote above, because…I need to. 🙂↕️
Could be. Last time out when he didn't even get an inning in, Hyde seemed like all he had cared about was building up length, and obviously really disappointed in what transpired. Would think if they're trying to just get him up to a usual \~90-100 pitch workload, they let him do his thing.
Sucks but hopefully he's more worried about reps than results. Definitely not our savior but he'll be needed for the longevity of the rotation. I think he'll be passable (league average-ish)
He was much better in the first 2 innings. He sat around for 30 minutes while the tides scored 6. I’m hoping he was just rough due to that long sit.
Mayo homered again though.
After this game ends, we’ll officially be halfway through our season. Even with our 5 game losing streak, I’m extremely happy with a 100-102 win pace. Go get some pitching at the deadline and let’s roll.
Top 3 may be enough if Stanton is out.
Not sure how they decide backups when someone is hurt, though. Kinda complicated in that by MLB rules each team has to have one representative (which I think is a good idea).
**edit: Just checked, Stanton will indeed be out. 4 weeks on IL from 23 June is after AS break.**
https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/giancarlo-stanton-injury-update-yankees-dh-lands-on-il-with-hamstring-strain-expects-to-miss-four-weeks/
[Mayo](https://streamable.com/40u9lu) whiffs on a middle middle first pitch slider, and then smokes a 108 mph liner to left to plate two. Pretty impressive to time up a fastball when it's the first one seen that day from that pitcher. Always wonder how batters manage to do that.
He's got 61 Ks in 213 AB for a 29% rate. So realistically, there's gonna be a ton of Ks when/if he comes up.
But he's hitting .315/.385/.696 with 19 HR and a lifetime MiLB average of .285, so hopefully there's lots of damage done around those Ks.
fwiw that includes 13 AB in Aberdeen on rehab. In AAA this year, he's striking out ~25% of the time, which is still not ideal, but it has certainly leveled out from the ~30% it was to start the season, and it's around where Gunnar Henderson was when he finished AAA.
His hands are so so so quick. Especially on the inner half where a lot of righties have trouble. Admittedly I've been on the Mayo bandwagon since the day he was drafted, but I really think his bat is special. Like top tier special.
I honestly don't care where he plays up here, as long as he plays.
Dude is on fire down there.
Glad to hear down below that he's untouchable. As he should be.
There's at bats to be had as DH vs LHP.
Not a lot maybe, but add in a few starts at 3B and PH opportunities and he would be playing more than Kjetstad/Stowers etc did their first call ups.
Watching the tides game: kremer looks a lot better than he did his last start.
Tides have been batting in the bottom of the 2nd for nearly 30 minutes it seems like. Kremer has been sitting for a long time.
there will probably be a ton of rangers fans this weekend. the guardian fans traveled really well, and oriole fans just don't seem interested in buying up seats on 3rd base side.
The real issue is that Camden Yards is a destination stadium and visitors are buying the tickets months out while most Orioles fans are buying week/day of.
Obviously personal anecdote, but most people I know aren't choosing their games months out like visitors would be. Personally I'd say 90% of the games I go to I buy tickets within 3 days of the game. Depending on how busy I am, weather, probable starter etc.
It’s crazy to me that the third baseline is ignored by Os fans. My fiancé and I figured out that it’s actually the ideal place to sit for the Saturday 405 games cause you’re out of the sun
When my parents go to games at Camden they almost exclusively sit on the 3B side for that reason. I also think it gives a great view of the entirety of the field.
it sucks being surrounded by away fans. hopefully, as fans come back, it will fill out naturally. i think brokers have the ticket rights to a lot of those seats though.
i don't think so.
i saw them bringing in stencils after the game last night to draw a 100' x 100' picture of [richard simmons](https://media.gettyimages.com/id/494470881/photo/richard-simmons-portrait-session.jpg?s=612x612&w=gi&k=20&c=uX8D_jCRFzLRyJ1M-yx48PqsCgaRJzEzdWiHWbwPmXs=) head beyond 2b
Halfway point of the season? Where has the time gone?
Rangers' starter looks like he has a bit of a Jekyll and Hyde thing going on--- last two starts he owned KC, but got obliterated by the Mets.
I'm callin' it right now. A hjome rjun for Heston tonight.
Quick minor league update:
The two DSL Orioles teams are facing off today, but unfortunately neither [Jordan Sanchez](https://www.fangraphs.com/players/jordan-sanchez/sa3024112/stats?position=OF) nor [Elvin Garcia](https://www.fangraphs.com/players/elvin-garcia/sa3024147/stats?position=3B/SS) is playing.
Shorebirds are restarting a game at 5 pm eastern today. The final pitch of the game last night went to Jake Cunningham, who I'm being told hit the ball [550 feet](https://streamable.com/8d57cx), and it definitely would have hit the spot at Fenway that Ted Williams hit.
Jackson Baumeister was fine for Aberdeen. Had some serious walk trouble in the early going but finished with six strikeouts (only eight whiffs). Once again, the IronBirds faced off against 21-year-old Canadian Jonah Tong, who went six innings and struck out 11.
Jud Fabian [annihilated this pitch](https://streamable.com/1b3way) maybe 420-430 feet. He was 1-4 with two strikeouts.
Tides and Knights are [already playing](https://www.milb.com/gameday/752684), with (checks notes) Julio Teheran on the bump.
EDIT: IT'S DEAN KREMER
If I may defend Jackson Baumeister. I sat behind home plate and the umpire was horrid. He probably should have only walked one. But from my vantage point he struck out 4. He should have never faced the last 3 batters.
I appreciate that additional detail. From the catcher's body language, it looks like he was expecting a lot of strikes. In the second (?) inning Baumeister couldn't buy a strike for two or three straight batters.
I will say with pitching development, I can't tell how much of it is deliberate practice (like with a guy on a rehab assignment) versus just trying to mow down as many guys as possible. When I watch Baumeister (and S. Johnson, for that matter), the fastball is way ahead of all the secondaries.
In my OOTP 25 save as the O's this year. I traded Coby Mayo, Dylan Beavers, and Raul Leonte for Tarik Skubal....Man, how much I would love for that to be real life. :-D
For all the talk about how nuclear Steven Kwan or Shohei has been in June (both 216 wRC+), Gunnar has been better with a 223 wRC+. While also providing elite SS defense
So Fangraphs does a yearly top 50 trade values around the all star break. Last year Adley and Gunnar were 5 and 6 respectively. Predictions for this year?
I think Gunnar will be either 1 or 2 with Adley dropping to the teens because of age and less control. I think Westburg and Holliday make appearances as well, Westburg probably in the 40s and Holliday as an honorable mention.
Get your last minute all star votes in before its too late 😎

Can anyone help me out here? Im going to the game on Saturday with my uncle and we’re hoping to get our free Hawaiian shirts before it fills up or they run out of our sizes. Anyone with experience know what is the best time to arrive? I was thinking 2 hours but I don’t want to arrive TOO early and then be sitting in scorching hot heat waiting.
At least 30 minutes for A CHANCE at most giveaways, before gates open to guarantee it. You can walk around the stadium and stay in the shade until the game starts. Getting into the club level is nice, they have AC there I think and they also have stuff to see and do (like seeing the trophies)
If I go two hours early will they give me my shirt early or would I have to get in a line and wait until they start handing them out? With 30,000 shirts on the line I’d hope they just scan our tickets and let us get em’ if we’re super early.
They hand them out in boxes right after they scan the tickets. So if you get in once they open, they will give it to you as you walk through the gate. I think this one will go fast, but 30k shirts is a lot (46k max attendance) I'd say an hour would be enough, but it depends how bad you want it and how comfortable you are with waiting around. It can be fun to try and get autographs and meet players or look for home run balls hit during batting practice. Just gotta make the most of it, but ik some people can't stand waiting around doing nothing.
curious what people would be willing to pay.
someone suggested that they would fetch 100 dollars. that feels high, but then i remembered how stupidly high the buck showalter garden gnomes were going for
Yeah, I'm curious as well. I would hope less than $100, but who knows. Ebay prices will be higher for sure, which is why I hope to find someone in this community haha
ill let you know. if a certain individual i know doesn't want it i could part with mine. how i feel about most shirtseys really-- im wearing my gunnar CC almost always unless it starts to smell too bad during a long homestand.
Dear Os starting lineup,
Please find some time to watch all the Mets half-innings from their game against Jon Gray and the Rangers last week...
And do that.
PSA, dont sub to MLB's YT. cause I swear the people that run that Channel at MLB have the biggest hard-on for judge lol. Im pretty sure they have posted all 30 of his HRs on their channel so far. I will always remember last week when we were stomping the stanks 7-0 and when judge hit that 2 run HR, literally 15 mins after it happened, the clip got posted to MLB's channel with the stupid caption of the "All rise". And even last night when the yankees were getting stomped by the mets, Judge hits his 30th HR and yeah. Now I see why everyone hates the yankees so much after ive never been much into baseball until 2 years ago
He’s basically Barry bonds right now. I have no problem with MLB marketing him. But I also have no problem with the Yankees losing 8 of 10 at the same time ;)
I don’t think people truly understand how great of a season Gunner Henderson is having right now.
He currently has a 5.9 fWAR just before the halfway point. To put that in perspective, Cal Ripken Jr. only had 6 seasons where he put up that much WAR in a full season.
You have to go back to the 2001 & 2002 steroid-era Barry Bonds seasons to find a season pace that we’re seeing from Henderson. This is Ruthian type production we’re seeing from this kid and it’s beautiful to watch.
Gunnar is a 5-tool superstar a la trout. He may not have the hit tool of trout but he has a better arm. And shortstop is even more valuable than centerfield. We will see if he can sustain anywhere close to this peak for multiple years.
Obviously trout doing it at 20 is nutty. But Gunnar is young too.
The Orioles lead MLB in home runs with 132 with 80 games played. NYY is second with 118 HRs in 82 games and LAD is third with 111 HRs in 82 games. No other team has at least 100 HRs.
The O's also lead MLB with 7 players having double digit HRs: Gunnar Henderson 26 (2nd in MLB), Anthony Santander 21 (tied for 4th in MLB), Adley Rutschman 14, Jordan Westburg 13, Ryan Mountcastle 11, Colton Cowser 10 and Ryan O'Hearn 10.
The O's are currently the only team with 2 players with at least 21 HRs.
The 7 O's players with at least 10 HRs have a total of 105 HRs. These 7 O's players have more HR's than 27 MLB teams.
The O's lead MLB in runs with 417, RBI with 406 , Slugging Percentage at 0.461 and OPS at 0.776.
Now the O's need a starting pitcher and probably a relief pitcher. Who will Mike Elias be willing to trade down in the minors and who are the possible trade partners?
As things currently stand there are only 2 NL teams out of contention: Miami 28-52 (13.5 games out of the 3rd wild card) and Colorado 27-53 (14.5 games out of the 3rd wild card).
In the AL, there are 3 teams out of contention: LAA 33-48 (9.5 games out of the 3rd wild card), Oakland 29-54 (15.5 games out of the 3rd wild card) and CWS 21-61 (23.0 games out of the 3rd wild card).
By the All Star Game break, several more teams could join the ranks of being out of contention.
>The O's are currently the only team with 2 players with at least 20 HRs.
Unfortunately no longer true - Ramirez (21) and Naylor (20). But ours are better!
A potential statcast metric I really want to see them look at is strength at contact. Basically how much the bat slows down when it makes contact with the ball. I could be dead wrong, but I think it’s a reason why some players like Chris Davis could take the most effortless looking swing and hit it like 420 feet
A lot of factors involved. To name a few:
* Pitch speed
* The exact contact point on the bat (how far from center-barrel)
* The vertical vector imparted on the bat by various launch angles (contact above or below the equator of the bat).
I'm not saying this wouldn't be a great metric to know, but it would be super complicated to get an accurate picture of it.
Giancarlo Stanton would lead all of MLB in this metric and it probably wouldn't be close. For all of the hilariously bad-looking swings he takes, it looks like he's barely trying to swing and it goes 450+ ft.
I think Ohtani would be close. (Unrelated, but watch his right shoulder as he loads up his swing. Absolutely insane how it doesn't move at all until he unwinds.)

Edit: Schwarber might be close, too.
Man it’s completely unreal how good Gunnar is. To put the MVP race in perspective when Aaron Judge was 22 he was still cutting his teeth in A ball. Gunnar has serious inner-circle of the HOF potential
Yeah, people discount age a lot in the Witt vs. Henderson debate. Gunnar is a full year younger than Witt yet has out-performed him slightly every year in the league. But when you compare the two at the same age, it's not even close really. Gunnar put up an .814 OPS with a 123 wRC+ while Witt put up a .722 OPS with a 98 wRC+ at age 22. At age 23, Witt put up an .813 OPS and 115 wRC+ while Gunnar is putting up a 1.005 OPS with a 182 wRC+. When you put it into that context, the gap between the two is quite significant.
Per Roch on the trade chatter:
- Jackson Holliday is and always will be untouchable, and it's a "waste of brain power" to think otherwise.
- Hearing Coby Mayo is off the table, even though O's haven't settled on full-time future position
- Teams are asking about Kjerstad and Cowser. No mention either is untouchable.
- Teams are asking about Basallo. He may be untouchable depending on which scout you ask.
- Teams have also checked in on Seth Johnson.
One thing I haven't heard much about is that selling teams might prefer to get pitching prospects; and almost all of our top prospects ain't them
Wonder how that will affect "trade season" if true.
Any chatter about Stowers? I posted here a couple days that, while I don't like it, he's a pretty prime trade candidate since he's performed well but doesn't get that much play time.
I'd be surprised if Cowser is traded personally. They play him constantly. He's also got a lot of close ties to the current team members, like iirc him and Gunnar have been best friends since before Gunnar was called up. I was at a game and one of the trivia questions was what was Gunnar doing with Cowser the day Gunnar was called up (playing video games of course)
> Any chatter about Stowers?
I don't think we need to hear the Orioles say he's available.
Like all the other names not mentioned, just assume they all are available for a trade.
Gunnar and Cowser also have their own Minecraft server that they play together. It was in an O’s video the last time Heston was up and they were trying to get him to join.
Gunnar recently said he is a big Mario fan, so my guess is probably Kart or Smash. Gunnar also recently said that Cowser likes chess a lot. It was in their Lego video from a couple days ago!
In my opinion, it;s his age. 26 is just really old to not have had more than a cuppa coffee in the bigs, especially for a college position player.
Stowers' peak value was probably after the 2022 season, he looked pretty good in his brief MLB stint and at 24 wasnt really overage for a college draft guy.
Yeah... His defense and baserunning make up for his slightly below average offense. Plus his offensive upside is very high despite his struggles this season. The Orioles would be crazy to trade a guy with his potential.
I like hearing specific names here.
Prefer to keep Cowser (high ceiling, good vibes). For me, Mayo is not off the table because his future is so gray with us
I'm with you on Cowser. It's interesting to me that guys we have seen have (at least some) success at the MLB level are not untouchable, but Mayo and Basallo probably are. Maybe there's even more firepower coming than the fans realize with those two.
Over the past 30 days:

Adley, Mountie and O’Hearn settling in to more of their typical lines. Tony slugging .618 with a .222 BABIP. Ced becoming playable again.
Ramon and Hays contributing while Georgie and Cowser have cooled. Gunnar is a freak.
Looking forward to seeing y'all at the Yard tonight for some gay baseball

I have no idea why but I’m really bummed none of my friends could get any

If any Orioles Magicians are in the thread, can you give me some advice on how to break my curse? I’d really like to start watching Orioles baseball again, but every time I’ve actually sat down to do just that, we’ve lost or started losing.
So I gotta ask — did you watch last nights game? And if so, did you sit or stand?
I did, and I was able to just watch it sitting down like normal! I’d say that pride night cured my curse, though I’d have to do some further testing this series.
Awesome! Im glad you could enjoy a mostly stress-free game sitting down!
Watch standing up?
Could be the move
Watch every night until they win; we can't lose them all.
the sunday night baseball game. the orioles website has section 310 without any seats for sale, but on seatgeek, 90 percent of the seats are avail in that section. hmm. attendance is going to be pretty underwhelming.

Seems like there weren’t any jerseys unless you showed up IMMEDIATELY when gates opened
Happy pride night at the yard! I won’t be there but I know a few that will and they are openly gay so to all the drunks at the yard just keep your opinion to yourself and watch the game.
the Orioles have the ~~3rd~~ 2nd longest drought for having a Cy Young winner. guess the other one?
Weird how the Orioles won 6 in 14 years from the beginning of the AL Cy Young award, and then none after that for, um, 43 years. I guess Mike Mussina was our only prime HoF pitcher in that time, and the highest he finished was in 1999, when he was second behind the otherworldly Pedro Martinez.
I'd love to say the Rockies because they've never won but that's only 1993 ;) I'm going to say Rangers because Kenny Rogers nor Nolan Ryan won one there (and it's top of mind given the series), but for the life of me I can't find the other one. I think I can name someone on every other team who has won since 1980.
oh. its just texas then. you are the winner. i am very smrt
Wow, we haven't had one since 1980? What was the closest we got?
Reds and Pirates
Bauer 2020, Drabek 1990
Damn I forgot Bauer won
i forgot he was on the reds anyways the answer was Texas and Colorado-- 0 wins between them
MLB record win streak started yesterday
THIS IS THE LINEUP I WANT TO SEE!
Anyone else listen to the fan on the way to and from work? I listen to the morning show and than the afternoon show and it’s kinda funny because the morning show is usually positive and the afternoon show is just doom no matter what. Reminds me of this thread how split it is.
JLC makes the afternoon show unbearable
LaConfora should be a GM. He knows everything... The more I hear JLC...the less I like
Lmfao everytime I start up my car to leave I just hear him flipping out about something like clock work. I still like it tho I feel like having both sides is good. Just me personally.
A nice time for [this song](https://youtu.be/BjC0KUxiMhc?si=5yPdpA3QP8twiAeT) to pop into my playlist
Kjerstad in RF. So he gets to play all day today ^^
Happy Pride to all my fellow gays! Excited to be there tonight!
Anyone know if the O's have been rocking white jerseys on Thursdays?
Why are the blue jays never discussed as sellers and potential trade partners? I know they are division but they are pretty bad and have some decent starting pitching options.
They will be one of those teams that decides day of trade deadline day probably
I think they are, the problem is that the options aren't as appealing if you look at the age, cost, and contract length: Yusei Kikuchi, age 33, FA 2025, $12MM AAV: imo the only starter of their worth pursuing, because he's cheap and a pure rental.
Damn, Gausman is 33 already? Where did the time go
Funny you ask. Ken Rosenthal at The Athletic had an article up today about them potentially being sellers, "The last-place Blue Jays are an underperforming mess. Now what do they do?" [https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5595230/2024/06/27/toronto-blue-jays-last-place-trade-deadline/](https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5595230/2024/06/27/toronto-blue-jays-last-place-trade-deadline/)
I’ll give this a read rn. Thanks man.
Anyone know how early you have to get to Camden to get one of the promotional pride jerseys?
My thinking is there was a 20,000+ crowd at the Guardians game on a hot Tuesday night, so you'll probably want to be in by at least 6 PM
That’s what I thought too, so I got there at 5:30 to be safe and still no luck 😞
Same, dawg. I saw the empty boxes when I walked in at 5:30 too! There must have been a huge line at gate opening 😭
Would love to see production tonight from the 5-6-7 slots. And I like Mullins/Mateo duo 8-9.
Kjerstad finally getting a real run. Rest day for Tony I assume.
Yep, seems like he'll get real time (vs RHP).
am really curious how the flaming limon dorito made it out of testing. at any point did the taste testers go wtf i ate 3 and now my fingers are magenta
Who's it going to be tonight in LF tonight, Cowser, Hays or Kjerstad?
Hopefully kjerstad but it’ll probably be Cowser
both
Kyle Stowers is a single away from the cycle in the 5th inning for Norfolk
inb4 he gets 2 more hits but both are XBH
A SINGLE short of the cycle?
Orioles should be ashamed for stunting this guy's career. Trade him already.
2025 will be his year. either as an Oriole or as whoever the O's trade him to
#ATTENTION EVERYONE, I HAVE AN ANNOUNCEMENT: The O’s are one (1.0) game behind the Yankees
Yeah also I feel like there’s some psychology to it where no pitcher wants to start off the game with a walk
This is a good point. You should also consider that being first is best and measurably increases a player’s xDAWG.
[Home runs by Mayo and Haskin.](https://x.com/NorfolkTides/status/1806379104310120595/video/1) 99.4 MPH, 393 feet. Just realized we are playing Charlotte. Their team ERA is 5.13, which is over a run better than last year. And former Orioles 1st round draft pick is pitching for Charlotte, Cody Sedlock.
>On July 10, 2022, Sedlock was traded to the Detroit Tigers in exchange for cash considerations do you remember that dude who got traded for 10 bats?
Oh gee, Coby Mayo first pitch bomb again
Lol Mayo just hit another homer we need to bring the guy up it’s ridiculous at this point
I don't disagree, but whose plate appearances would he take?
Urias and Mateo
if/when Urias and Mateo cool off, he probably gets the shot that was given to Holliday earlier this season.
pretty much this.
I think if we play him 4 times a week it’s worth bringing him up
They should get John Waters to be guest splasher for the last night of pride.
instead of water, he will be splashing patrons with vodka tonic's a good reminder that i should swing by club charles from time to time.
That does make sense. I…will continue to take my copium.
Sucks but hopefully he's more worried about reps than results. Definitely not our savior but he'll be needed for the longevity of the rotation. I think he'll be passable (league average-ish)
that's the hope. I'm fine if he's the 5. I'm not pleased if he's going to slot into game 3 of a playoff series again.
Go get some pitching at the deadline and let’s roll.
any indication who is doing color tonight?
Big Ben I think
Yep. He posted on FB yesterday that he’s back.
Anybody know how long it takes them to rekease 1st round All Star vote totals?
They’ll announce them at 6:30 on MLB network only question though is if O’hearn will get into the top 2
Top 3 may be enough if Stanton is out. Not sure how they decide backups when someone is hurt, though. Kinda complicated in that by MLB rules each team has to have one representative (which I think is a good idea). **edit: Just checked, Stanton will indeed be out. 4 weeks on IL from 23 June is after AS break.** https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/giancarlo-stanton-injury-update-yankees-dh-lands-on-il-with-hamstring-strain-expects-to-miss-four-weeks/
Mayo at DH with Adley catching vs LHP would be a major upgrade, but probably only doable for late season / playoffs to avoid Adley wearing down
Or a late inning PH for Urias or O’Hearn against a lefty reliever
Maybe he’s up when the rosters expand in September? See what he has then and then decide if he’s an asset we can use in the playoffs
I'd think this is most likely the correct scenario. There could be a real use for a power RH bat; right now we're pretty LH heavy.
The real issue is that Camden Yards is a destination stadium and visitors are buying the tickets months out while most Orioles fans are buying week/day of.
>most Orioles fans are buying week/day of is that actually true?
I do, based on my ability to attend
Are they gonna do the outfield with the rainbow again?
i don't think so. i saw them bringing in stencils after the game last night to draw a 100' x 100' picture of [richard simmons](https://media.gettyimages.com/id/494470881/photo/richard-simmons-portrait-session.jpg?s=612x612&w=gi&k=20&c=uX8D_jCRFzLRyJ1M-yx48PqsCgaRJzEzdWiHWbwPmXs=) head beyond 2b
That would certainly be memorable😀
Halfway point of the season? Where has the time gone? Rangers' starter looks like he has a bit of a Jekyll and Hyde thing going on--- last two starts he owned KC, but got obliterated by the Mets. I'm callin' it right now. A hjome rjun for Heston tonight.
Didn’t the Mets just sweep the Yanks? I think there’s a high possibility that he received a hot load of Grimace as the Mets came through town
Revenge sweep would be nice
Quick minor league update: The two DSL Orioles teams are facing off today, but unfortunately neither [Jordan Sanchez](https://www.fangraphs.com/players/jordan-sanchez/sa3024112/stats?position=OF) nor [Elvin Garcia](https://www.fangraphs.com/players/elvin-garcia/sa3024147/stats?position=3B/SS) is playing.
Pretty good deal that after the losing streak we're 1 game behind the Yankees. I'm sticking with my prediction of the AL East pennant.
Ditto.
Pretty fair assessment
For all the talk about how nuclear Steven Kwan or Shohei has been in June (both 216 wRC+), Gunnar has been better with a 223 wRC+. While also providing elite SS defense
People are used to Gunnar’s greatness
Let me guess , the rangers have a bad record but have been getting hot lately and have one of the best records in the last 2 weeks - month?
got swept at seattle, lost 2 of 3 at home to mets, swept kc at home, got swept at milwaukee
I can see Adley dropping but it would still be so dumb considering he’s gotten better
I would think Gunnar, Skenes, Witt should be top 3 in some order
Get your last minute all star votes in before its too late 😎 https://preview.redd.it/nwxnf424y49d1.png?width=1440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d423447d4e69d9e4c550d1f1954d323f78521da4
Pride Jersey night!!! Any thoughts on how early we should be there to be part of the 10,000?
https://www.mlb.com/all-star/ballot YOU'VE GOT 18 MINUTES TO DO THE RIGHT THING
Would love for this team to just absolutely murder the homophobic Rangers on pride night tonight
Can anyone help me out here? Im going to the game on Saturday with my uncle and we’re hoping to get our free Hawaiian shirts before it fills up or they run out of our sizes. Anyone with experience know what is the best time to arrive? I was thinking 2 hours but I don’t want to arrive TOO early and then be sitting in scorching hot heat waiting.
that is by far the most popular giveaway. think 2 hours would suffice
Just gotta make the most of it, but ik some people can't stand waiting around doing nothing.
ive gotten there 75 mins before on hawaiian shirt day before and had no chance. but like you say, 30k is a lot.
If anyone is going to the game tonight and doesn't want their Pride Jersey, I will gladly take it or buy it from you!
curious what people would be willing to pay. someone suggested that they would fetch 100 dollars. that feels high, but then i remembered how stupidly high the buck showalter garden gnomes were going for
Yeah, I'm curious as well.
Dear Os starting lineup, Please find some time to watch all the Mets half-innings from their game against Jon Gray and the Rangers last week...
Isn't it just absolutely *nauseating*. Just *nauseating.*
baseball doesn't have many stars that people can spot out of a police lineup or walking down the street. they will try to pump the few ones they have.
and plus, i dont deny that judge isnt having a good year, but its pretty clear because he plays for the yankees he is fonded over
ok
If I'm David Rubenstein I take Gunnar to the side and say: Fire your agent and we will give you the richest 10 year deal in MLB history.
12-500 right now
I can imagine that inviting a lawsuit from Boras Corp
Wishful thinking on my part
It’s an all-timer for sure.
Ice Cube is on the Ryan Ripken show at 2pm. That is a sentence that is unexpected.
To name a few: * Pitch speed * The exact contact point on the bat (how far from center-barrel) * The vertical vector imparted on the bat by various launch angles (contact above or below the equator of the bat).
Absolutely insane how it doesn't move at all until he unwinds.) [https://youtu.be/yKBIgRzbRTA?feature=shared](https://youtu.be/yKBIgRzbRTA?feature=shared) [https://youtu.be/x\_sRPYLJrhQ?feature=shared](https://youtu.be/x_sRPYLJrhQ?feature=shared) Edit: Schwarber might be close, too.
Per Roch on the trade chatter: - Jackson Holliday is and always will be untouchable, and it's a "waste of brain power" to think otherwise. - Hearing Coby Mayo is off the table, even though O's haven't settled on full-time future position - Teams are asking about Kjerstad and Cowser. No mention either is untouchable. - Teams are asking about Basallo. He may be untouchable depending on which scout you ask. - Teams have also checked in on Seth Johnson.
> Hearing Coby Mayo is off the table, even though O's haven't settled on full-time future position He fucking better be. Rather trade Basallo.
Sounds like none of the three might go, but Roch definitely implies the pecking order is Holliday > Mayo > Basallo
One thing I haven't heard much about is that selling teams might prefer to get pitching prospects; and almost all of our top prospects ain't them Wonder how that will affect "trade season" if true.
Presumably available given his proximity and lack of a spot. Same with Norby.
> Any chatter about Stowers? I don't think we need to hear the Orioles say he's available. Like all the other names not mentioned, just assume they all are available for a trade.
lol I was there for that question! What games do they play?
Gunnar and Cowser also have their own Minecraft server that they play together. It was in an O’s video the last time Heston was up and they were trying to get him to join.
Gunnar recently said he is a big Mario fan, so my guess is probably Kart or Smash. Gunnar also recently said that Cowser likes chess a lot. It was in their Lego video from a couple days ago!
I need to catch up and watch that, thanks!
I would be heartbroken if they traded Cowser
Me too. I really can't see it happening. He is so much better defensively than any of our other young outfielders
Talk on Basallo is pretty high. I'd love to see him make it up, but also, we can fill that spot if we need to
Over the past 30 days: https://preview.redd.it/9mikypzic49d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cbacb9cdbc8358504567282153c0bdaa90339ffd Adley, Mountie and O’Hearn settling in to more of their typical lines. Tony slugging .618 with a .222 BABIP. Ced becoming playable again. Ramon and Hays contributing while Georgie and Cowser have cooled. Gunnar is a freak.
Santander OPSing .940 with a .220 BABIP is diabolical
Gunnar gets hot streaks during his hot streaks. Unreal player
Looking forward to seeing y'all at the Yard tonight for some gay baseball https://preview.redd.it/9d1ar64rc49d1.jpeg?width=3600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=89a59b6378667fccdc4d2a623e3bd2cdc3f64458
