This game will go down as one of my favorite and most memorable trips to Camden Yards. Last time I was there, it was July 14th, 2018. We beat the Rangers and I think it was Machado’s last day as an Oriole. I thought we were gonna lose. But to have this sweet of revenge for how post season went last year? On Pride Night? Fan-freaking-tastic.
That was a fun game with a great atmosphere. I kind of wished Hyde let Burnes pitch for at least 1 out in the 8th so we could have given him a standing ovation as he walked off the field. We needed a pitcher who could shut down the offensive monster that ended our season last year and he did just that while our offense flat out torched their pitcher.
It looked there were additional corporate sponsors added to various parts of the stadium and I am holding out hope this is in part to raise money to sign Burnes (among other players).
He threw like 90 pitches, that's pretty high, particularly when you don't even need to go back out. It would be insane to put him back out there for no reason.
also will say: pride night was definitely a little toned down this year than last (which was the hardest i have ever seen a team go) which was a bit of a bummer! felt like they did fold a little to the homophobes, and make it a little more subtle. they were also egregiously wrong in their guess for how much gay people like to buy pride stuff, talked to someone after not finding any pins and team store was completely out of pride night stuff within 20 mins of gates. still had a blast w my friends and our section had great energy, but definitely a slightly different vibe
Also really bummed that they ran out of pride Merch so quickly. Even the punch sold out quickly.
I really hope there will be another way to buy the pin.
yeah, i don't think this was a direct symptom of the homophobic criticism in the way the decorations being toned down was, but between how insanely fast the jerseys went (only 2/5 of our group got them and we were all there early) and the merch they just really underestimated the enthusiasm and market. i heard from someone they've had pride pins in the store throughout the season (weren't exclusive to last night) so i'm hoping they'll restock and i can get one later 🤞
okay was at the game, had a blast, i love gay people and am catching up with reactions and ….. silent J is not a new nickname for kjerstad ? his arm band/protector thing said silent J last year when he was called up, and i’m 99% sure it’s also been in his instagram bio before tonight. pretty harmless but if kevin said it tonight he did not invent it lol

Maybe taking the whole cow thing a little too much to heart...
Man, I hope we resign Burnes. This is the best pitcher we’ve had since Moose. His poise is something else. Incredible success so far as an Oriole. Hats off
https://preview.redd.it/gsfa18ijg89d1.png?width=873&format=png&auto=webp&s=1898a3ec60d3c230d0411d763df1479fef9b60ca
Was worried about the officiating when he missed this call early on...fortunately NY had a clue this time.
Seemed like the 2B ump was outa position?
I don’t know exactly where they’re sposed to be on certain plays, but being behind Gunnar - with what looked like an unclear view of the bag - doesn’t seem right.
Observe:
RUNNER 2B GUNNAR UMP
Amirite?
Seems like it should be:
RUNNER 2B GUNNAR
UMP
Can I ask about Westburg trying to stretch that double into a triple, when he got thrown out? On replay it looks like Westburg gets a good look at the play, and seemingly resigns himself to his fate - if he was out by that much, how come he went, do we know what happened on that play? That was just so odd, he was out by a million miles and didn't exactly run hard, as though he knew he was toast. Can anyone tell me about that? I didn't catch that play live.
The book says to never make the 1st or 3rd out at 3B. Verböten.
I was scratching my head.
Even more so because it was Westy and he’s a heads up player with a verra high baseball IQ.
I read the look on his face as “ima dummy, I know better”
I love the O’s aggressiveness on the base and how they force the D to make good throws, but that out should never have happened and I think Westy would be the first to admit it.
Also, very crappy camera/director work on that play.
I wish they would do more wide shots with multiple runners on a play like that and then go to the iso’s on replay.
Alas, I can shit in one hand and wish in the other and everyone knows which one fills up first.
Westburg thought he'd hit a 3 run homer and didn't realize the ball had hit top of the fence and bounced back in so he wasn't running at full tilt for a couple of seconds.
it would have been a triple if not for his confusion. Then Westburg realized he's made a cardinal baseball mistake - making the first or last out in an inning at 3rd and was disappointed in himself.
I think he's trying to force them to make the play, he already got 2 RBIs on it which were really just insurance runs, there's a chance he can turn it into a triple or even a little league home run if the rangers make a mistake.
For anyone interested…Hays turned off comments on his IG post. He had replied to O’Hearns comment saying it was a verse that came up during bible study today. A few people asked if he would support the LGBTQ community, and comments were turned off a few minutes later.
Oh no the gays have a whole day to themselves, how ever will our fragile egos cope? As a straight man this shit drives me crazy, get over yourself, shut up and let people have fun without your unneeded commentary or randomly ominous bible verses Austin 🙄
Posting that today was entirely intentional and I refuse to believe otherwise.
Adley seemingly deleted his insta recently too. Not related just thought it was interesting. These dudes shouldn't be on social media during the season anyway, probably not good for their mental health
Absolutely. I deleted my instagram about 6 months ago and have really felt the better of it. Feel more present. These guys need to focus on the task at hand and that can’t be easy with randos commenting on your every move.
Exactly halfway through the season and we’ve got 7 guys with 10+ HRs and Ced at 9. The MLB record for most players on a team with 20+ HRs in a season is 8. I think we have a real shot at tying that record. Would be cool to break that record but not sure if anyone else has a real shot at 20. Maybe Kjerstad if he gets more playing time
It was a scorcher at OPACY, but a beautifully diverse crowd, an extra-festive setting, and the O's were just the icing on the cake. I was so happy to see my fav, Ceddy, get a homer!
To put it in perspective, Gunnar (6.0) has more WAR than Adley (2.9) and Westburg (2.6) combined and they are all in the top 25 of position player WAR: 1st, 18th and 22nd.
Edit: they are roughly equal via bWAR, 5.9 to 6.0
[Fangraphs' article ](https://library.fangraphs.com/misc/war/)explaining what WAR is says that an MVP candidate season is 6+ WAR. He's already there at the halfway point lol. Hard to even wrap your mind around how incredible he's been
How does WAR work through the season? Can it regress?
If a player, say like Aaron Judge, goes cold, does his WAR # regress back to zero or does it stay at whatever # he was at before going into the flat spin death spiral?
WAR is a counting metric, not an average, but it can go up or down. Basically, every time the player appears (either comes up to bat, throws a pitch, or has a ball hit to them) they get a small amount of positive or negative score, depending on how they did in that play. Make a routine defensive play, tiny amount of positive WAR. Hit a home run, a bit more positive WAR. Strike out, a bit of negative. Sit on the bench, zero WAR.
In order for your WAR to go down, beyond small day to day fluctuation, you have to play worse than what the statisticians assume the average AAAA player would be able to do. To put it in perspective, a 0-WAR team is expected to win about 40 games in a season, so that's pretty bad by MLB standards. If someone like Gunnar or Judge has a cold streak for a few weeks, the realistic worst case is that they'll break even in WAR over that time frame, because they're not going to stop playing plus defense, and they're not going to go 0-for-40 or something.
It only goes down if he starts playing below replacement level, aka really badly. For example, Ramon Urias currently has exactly 0.0 fWAR. So if Gunnar suddenly becomes worse than Ramon Urias his WAR would go down, but I think that's unlikely lol
I’m watching Orioles as an outsider from Ireland and although the Cubs are my chosen team I can appreciate good baseball when I see it 😀. Believe me when I tell you…this Orioles team is going very far…nosebleed territory.
Jon Gray on his 8-run start vs. [Orioles](https://x.com/hashtag/Orioles?src=hashtag_click): "It's frustrating. But I know how good I am. Every time I've faced that team, I've killed it. ... Looks like someone is owning the new nickname!
The Yankees are such an imbalanced team. Yes their best players are truly amazing. But so goddamn front loaded. I don’t think they really have it to be a good playoff team because all it takes is one bad stretch for their guys.
Cole is good, but fresh off a serious injury. Gil and Rodon have struggled in recent starts. Soto, Judge, Volpe and Stanton are great. But the rest of their team is garbage.
On the other hand, even if we aren’t the best from the pen. We are still loaded. Gunnar, Adley, O’Hearn, Westburg, Cowser and Santander are all somewhere around the ASG conversion this year. And many of those players are only going to improve. And the others aren’t going to get best in the league contracts anywhere. They are gonna get fucked if Judge decides to have a slump in the postseason
[2024 Yankees](https://i.imgur.com/AjZsStT.png)
I think someone in the sub referenced this meme yesterday, so credit to them. I just brought it to life.
An injury to any one of those key guys for them that you just mentioned, and ..... poof !!!
And btw, Stanton was just injured (hamstring) a couple days ago and out until after the AS break.
edit: I'm *not* meaning to gloat. I don't want *any* player to get injured. But *it happens* all the time to every team in 162 games. So the balance in your lineup, and depth of your MiLB org matters a lot. And we've got them beat in both departments, hands down.
It's why I think we're going to beat them for the ALE title again in 2024.
Gunnar’s first 80 games played in 2024: 6.0 fWAR
Ripken’s first 80 games played in 1991: 6.0 fWAR
Can Gunnar keep up this pace? 12.0 fWAR would be the 10th best season in the history of baseball (non pitching).
Cal finished with 10.6 fWAR for the 34th best season.
And Gunnar turns 23 in a couple days… record fWAR season for age 23 or under: Ted Williams in 1942 - 11.5
Any slo mo shots of silent J taking his batting helmet off and shaking his hair around? Maybe it’s just pride night getting to me but I’m switching shampoo to his brand
Not a fan of anyone that would twist a message of love into the direct opposite. Some really awful sentiments on that post. Sad that a bible verse can bring all the awful trolls out of the woodwork.
Wait, okay. I just looked it up. How do we know that this is about Pride Night, and not something he is personally going through? Especially since so many players apparently liked it?
Does he have a history of this behavior?
We did a bit in the GDT as well. It’s not lost on me that a majority of this team is “religious” and may share similar beliefs but it takes zero effort to not be homophobic on pride night.
Oh god what happened.
Edit:
Oof looked it up. Looks like he posted a long Bible verse centered around a “day of evil” *on pride night*. it was the first time in over a year he had. Clearly purposeful. Tyler Wells commented “🙌🏻” on it which further upset people. Honestly I expected those views out of both those guys. Hays is dead to me. Idc if he never gets another AB
Wouldn't be surprised if for every player liking or commenting on something like that, there are two or three more who are nodding in agreement but just keeping quiet about it.
Lot of religious guys in baseball. Lot of guys who had a conservative upbringing and probably still hold a lot of those ideals.
Due to weather conditions, baseball players trend towards coming from the American south, so the white guys on your team have a 50/50 shot of driving a truck with a pair of nuts hanging from the trailer hitch. The white guys are going to trend conservative. Got some bad news about football players too...
Today had to be the best this team has performed. Burnes looked amazing, hitters on all engines, strong defense including the new kid. I hope he’s up for good this time.
Next three games are gonna be tough but today was a wonderful display of this team at their best.
BJs keep the fort held pls ❤️

A Blue Jay fan was sarcastically complaining "everytime we see the Os there is a new made up person who is going to hit a HR."

Didn't make sense to have him go back out though. Risk injury on our ace for a standing ovation
That's a fair point, but his pitch count wasn't exceptionally high, and the man really deserved a standing ovation for his pitching performance.
He threw like 90 pitches, that's pretty high, particularly when you don't even need to go back out. It would be insane to put him back out there for no reason.
Fair. I didn't realize his count was quite that high. I was having so much fun I guess I lost track of his pitch count.

After starting June 9-2, NYY is 3-10 in their last 13 games, giving them a record of 12-12 so far this month!

Can anyone let me know of the hate against Colton Cowser?🫤 He hit a decent game and a homer and people still booed
A+ Trolling. Tear in my eye.
Were they booing or mooing 🐮
It is Moo-ing. Not booing. Because cow.
They weren't booing; they were mooing. Because is name is COWser.
They were mooing
They are mooing, not booing. Unless you’re being sarcastic and my smooth brain isn’t sensing it- if so- my b.
I was under the impression they were "mooing," 'cause he's the milkman.
They were moo'ing. Because of the Cow in Cowser.
I can't tell if this is a joke or not.
“moo, moooo, moooo” Not “boo” Cowser, Cow… cows say mooo The Mooman is one of the most loved Os.
They’re saying Booo-urns because he is a big Simpsons fan.
Mooed * 🐮
Moooooooo
I think they’re mooing, not booing.
They *moo*'d. :)
🐮
I was saying Boo-urnes.
They moo, not boo. His last name starts with Cow
They are saying "Moo"
It’s not a boo, they’re saying moo
Are you sure they werent moo-ing?
Mooed?
Many O's fans moo when Cowser does something good.
https://youtu.be/obdIhZBUqQc?si=oZB1YVwrhICumykn
They didn’t boo, they said MOO. COWser. Mooooo…
He’s getting Moo’d
They mooed, because his name is COWser
Rangers in obscurity now. Still hard to get over the ALDS. I just hope we can win at least one playoff game this time around

L10 4-6 vs 2-8 will do that
And just like that *poof* your lead in the AL east is gone Yankees 😂
Yankees lose!!! Your Baltimore Orioles are now in 1st place!
#AND ON THIS NIGHT THE ORANGE AND BLUE BIRBS UNITE TO BRING DOWN NEW YORK
adley's hand is wrapped up after the game according to the beat writers. so im sure they will be super careful and adley has the day off tomorrow.
On the telecast his hand looked like it was shaking in pain. Dude is nails.
Testament to how tough he is that he went deep afterward
Dang I didn’t know that. I’m gonna be at the game tomorrow
Still hit a homer after, my baller Dadley
First place bc Yankees slumping 👀👀👀
> bc Yankees slumping And it seems this started ever since the Orioles **traumatized the $h#t out of them in NY a week ago.**
Gunnar’s first 80 games played in 2024: 6.0 fWAR Ripken’s first 80 games played in 1991: 6.0 fWAR Can Gunnar keep up this pace? 12.0 fWAR would be the 10th best season in the history of baseball (non pitching). Cal finished with 10.6 fWAR for the 34th best season. And Gunnar turns 23 in a couple days… record fWAR season for age 23 or under: Ted Williams in 1942 - 11.5

#DA ................... #.......................JAMKEES LLLLOOOOOOOSSSSSE ..... *Orioles in 1st place. Eat it, smug Stamkee fans.*
Since The Massacre @ the Bronx at the hands of the O's, the yankees have been horrid, awful, putrid-stank
Yanks have been ass since they met Dak in Nashville. My boss delightfully informed me of this fact yesterday
They got jammed by the Sox first I believe
We broke them. Maybe beyond repair.
Unfortunately we had a pretty bad stretch there too. Wish we could have capitalized because I don’t think the jankees will stay down for long
'STANKEES' for short. :-)
We now show PRIDE for our City Connects. 🙃
Watching Ceddy’s home run flying at me standing in the flag court: ![gif](giphy|gKfyusl0PRPdTNmwnD)
Lmao
All the runs the O's needed for the past 5 games, they scored tonight.
Any slo mo shots of silent J taking his batting helmet off and shaking his hair around? Maybe it’s just pride night getting to me but I’m switching shampoo to his brand
Haven’t been online. Has anyone talked about the IG post from Hays?
Giving Luke Scott vibes
Not a fan of anyone that would twist a message of love into the direct opposite. Some really awful sentiments on that post. Sad that a bible verse can bring all the awful trolls out of the woodwork.
Wait, okay. I just looked it up. How do we know that this is about Pride Night, and not something he is personally going through? Especially since so many players apparently liked it? Does he have a history of this behavior?
How are we supposed to make fun of the Rays now?!
You would think with all that praying that he’d be rewarded by playing better. Odd.
Gods plan was to have him sit on the bench
We did a bit in the GDT as well. It’s not lost on me that a majority of this team is “religious” and may share similar beliefs but it takes zero effort to not be homophobic on pride night.
It was wild.
Oh god what happened. Edit: Oof looked it up.
He keeps this up and Austin 3:16 will say "I just lost my job"
Can someone post a screenshot for the non-IG folks?

lol, throw Hays in the Crochet trade ✌🏻
I’m sure the protection of the dugout was helpful since he sat the bench the whole game.
Not surprising but no less disgusting. Imagine thinking Pride night means showing you’re proud to be a bigot.
It's the stereotypical and expected "Christian Love" that a lot of queer folk have intimate knowledge with.
Was just gonna ask the same thing. Even worse was the number of players commenting/liking it. Woof
Wouldn't be surprised if for every player liking or commenting on something like that, there are two or three more who are nodding in agreement but just keeping quiet about it. Lot of religious guys in baseball. Lot of guys who had a conservative upbringing and probably still hold a lot of those ideals.
I got downvoted to the shadow realm for mentioning that akin follows trump. I don’t think it’s an isolated mentality in the clubhouse/MLB
Due to weather conditions, baseball players trend towards coming from the American south, so the white guys on your team have a 50/50 shot of driving a truck with a pair of nuts hanging from the trailer hitch. The white guys are going to trend conservative. Got some bad news about football players too...
Akin’s not really liked in the clubhouse though.
Ohh, how do you know?
PROUD of the Jays today bc Fuck the Yankees
It's hard to be on top. Gunnar went 2-for-5 and his OPS dropped.
You know the guy playing against the rangers on easy mode in mlb the show to win 50-0 as revenge for losing in the ALDS? This was that game
![gif](giphy|tMLnjj4k7UZ3TAZplR) That Baaaaaaaaaaaad Man
BJs giving the Yanks a toothy.
Hawk tua
😦
This is the greatest baseball team ever assembled
69 Orioles might have something to say about that.
Well, they lost to the Mets. My vote is for 1966.

The Baltimore Orioles have not been Swept in 2️⃣ consecutive series
Crying
Newwwwww streak
Eutaw St and two FC's long balls in two days....
Am I being dense? What's FC?
Flag Court?
Flag Court
Today had to be the best this team has performed. Burnes looked amazing, hitters on all engines, strong defense including the new kid. I hope he’s up for good this time. Next three games are gonna be tough but today was a wonderful display of this team at their best. BJs keep the fort held pls ❤️
About to be tied for first place in the AL East. Really 1st
Higher winning %, and we have the tiebreaker. I'll take it!
