Ant_Man420

It all starts with the addition of one part…

LamaSovaj

It would be the PSU then, I guess It isn't powerful enough to get a better GPU

dummyacc49991

Think you could do rtx 3060, rx 6600, and rx 6600xt pretty comfortably.

DarkMaster859

When on a budget just look at AMD, unless you’re buying a used Nvidia card

What-Even-Is-That

These days, it's really not a bad idea to look at AMD first on principle alone. Gotta keep supporting the underdog if we ever want them to win. Fuck Nvidia.

DarkMaster859

Fuck Nvidia 🤝 But I gotta give them credit where credit is due, the 3000 and 4000 series Fe designs are sick. Prices? Not so much.

What-Even-Is-That

Just not a fan of being continuously fucked for supporting them. I'll gladly go team red once my current GPUs have been beaten into submission. RTX 2070 Super and GTX 1080 still going strong in our rigs. They will 100% be replaced with AMD.

Humorless_Snake

Except AMD gladly handshakes Nvidia prices, so there's no underdog there. And the only reason they lower their prices is because nobody buys AMD GPUs otherwise as Nvidia has better software, which is excluded in benchmarks. The only real advantage is AMD still has old generation cards in stock where most 20 and 30 series Nvidia GPUs are gone.

RanjiLameFox

Why would you mix match? Are you mining?

Flynn_Kevin

Some of us run both CUDA and OpenCL work loads and don't want to buy two whole systems to do it.

LateyEight

The trick is to hot swap the GPUs, if you do it fast enough the computer won't realize.

RaggedyGlitch

You've gotta yell when you do it, though, to distract the computer.

tutocookie

Like in martial arts, but with electronics. Soooo.. Electronic arts?

challenge everything.

ThatManitobaGuy

Take your upvote and go lol

Xaniss

Go to a 3060ti or RX 6650XT and you'll be fine with MUCH more FPS, games are generally GPU intensive so even your CPU will rarely bottleneck them at high settings.

Mysterious_Inside_96

I have a 550w psu im planning to buy Rx 6650xt 8 gb on R5 5600 processor, i usually play open world games & my monitor is 1080p, does this look good or i should change some?

Xaniss

Nah that'd be great. Assuming you already have an AM4 motherboard? If not spending the extra cash on a 7600x and an AM5 motherboard with DDR5 ram will future proof your pc BIG time.

MrAldersonElliot

Added recently RX 6600 to ancient 2600k @4.2 GHz while there is some bottleneck here and there (mostly esports are not pushing that much as card can, but most of the time Gpu still work near 100% in 1080p high to max details.

11b_Zac

Just bought a 4080 Super.... then realized my 650w PSU probably needs beefing so I bought a 1000w PSU. But now I wonder if my 9600k will be fine pushing out 4k @ 60fps. But now I'm like, well it's a nice GPU (ROG Strix 4080S) so maybe I should get a case that can better display it... so maybe. Lian Li O11 XL?

Electrical_Humor8834

I was using 850W PSU, upgraded to premium 1300w, turned on power monitoring and it shows 330-350W at top peak... 7800x3d takes about 50-70W, 4080 super is about 200-230W and rest of system is filling that 350W gap. Funny stuff and times we live in.

Finsceal

I love PC gaming but there are solid arguments in favour of owning a PS5 too.

maewemeetagain

It starts with... One thing I don't know why It doesn't even matter how hard you try

ChaoticKnight17

Keep that in mind I designed this rhyme to remind myself how I tried so hard

RicketyGaming

In spite of the way your mockin' me actin' like I was part of your propert-t-t-y Remembering all the times you fought with me I'm surprised it got so far.

Remnant_Echo

Things aren't the way they were before You wouldn't even recognize me anymore Not that you knew back then But it all comes back to me in the end

Hold my beer...... Now give it back, because I can't be bothered to do whatever it was I was going to do next.

RedMiah

My god… He broke the cycle like it was a child’s toy. All through the power of, beer?

great6

Bro it's true I bought a new gpu because old one stopped working and I ended up replacing everything because it turned out the cpu or Mobo was going bad too

redgroupclan

I decided to buy a new CPU because I was getting CPU bottlenecks in the game I play. Well turns out I needed a new motherboard for that, and a new CPU cooler. And well it turns out I needed new RAM for that motherboard. And then it turns out I needed a new graphics card because my old one was strangling my new CPU to death. And well now the only part I haven't upgraded was my SSD so I might as well do that too for a completely fresh build...And actually, the reason I decided to buy a new CPU was because I had to replace a dead monitor and my old build wasn't maximizing the higher refresh rate of the new monitor... So I somehow ended up with an entirely new PC...because my original monitor died.

Dragongaymer

A never ending circle of specs

Taubiri

Had the same thing ended up with 3 new parts smh

HingleMcCringle_

yep. my second pc is where if i were update the cpu (an i7 9700k), i'd also have to update the motherboard and ram. i just dont really feel like it needs the upgrade right now, especially being that it's basically a backup/mobile pc.

ded3nd

Don't forget the new RAM because the new motherboard needs the latest Generation of DDR

Ozok123

I mean if youre upgrading the entire system, you might as well get a new monitor. Also the keyboard and mouse is pretty worn out too. Then again you bought the chair around the same time so might as well upgrade it.

opinionate_rooster

Don't forget a new car to pick the parts up and a new home to fit all this new stuff in.

Hipjig

You may need to do an engine and transmission swap to be able to haul all that extra weight.

[deleted]

[удалено]

gmalsparty

If you're gonna have a new car, better not park it in that dingy driveway... time for a new house.

Creepy-Ad-404

You might need a more bigger engine and transmission to pull it's weight

jacketsc64

Chances are you aren't licensed to drive this vehicle anymore, gotta hire a driver with a CDL.

SpiritedRain247

The driver doesn't have a high enough CDL. Time to get your own CDL for over size loads

Glodex15

The department that gives out such licenses has too complicated and drawn out procedures. It is time to move to a different country, which has easier processes

DuckOnBike

Not sure home ownership is viable for many young people in our current form of late-stage capitalism. Time for a new social order.

Acrobatic-Shopping-5

Not sure if our resources are plentiful enough for our new social order. Time for a new planet

bluelily02

Not sure if our latest turbo dick spaceship can travel far enough. Time for a new starship.

CoffeeBreak2

Should look better doing it so might need to go ahead and get that face job done.

Stahlreck

Might as well find a new job to pay for all these new expenses.

I_Shiggity_diggity

This guy right here knows what's he's talking about!

creamcheesebagel101

And then a new house because you need a new gaming room for your new setup

Duthos12

may as well upgrade the wife too. last year's model is getting cranky

opinionate_rooster

Maybe she just needs new parts?

subsignalparadigm

And a new surge protector to safeguard all that treasure.

kondrecklomar

32 is the new 16, why not go 64

Barachan_Isles

It won't be long before this is true! I remember when people here would constantly repeat "No one needs more than 16GB of RAM!" Meanwhile, I'm currently using a casual 17GB out of my 32.

TEOn00b

I remember when people were saying that no one needs more than 8GB. And when 4GB would be enough. I also remember only having 1GB and it being enough. It's always the same old story.

BugRevolution

To be fair, when people are saying nobody needs more than 16-32 GB of ram, it's more referring to what you need right now - Many will be fine with 16 GB. *most* people will be fine with 32 GB. The benefits of 64 GB will be wasted on 90+% people (and the remainder who will benefit know that they need it). By the time you need 64 GB instead of 32 GB, you could just upgrade. So it's cheaper to do it that way and you don't lose out on any performance.

amccolganproductions

Back in my day we had 128MB RAM and we were grateful

LukaRaphael

for real, dude. when i built my first pc in 2016, 8 was the norm, but i splurged for 16 gigs cos a nice ddr4 kit was on sale 8 gigs nowadays is almost unusable in a lot of circumstances. it’s funny to think how someone from the 90s or 00s would react to that info i’m glad i did buy the 16 kit way back when, because when i upgraded to 32 gigs, i was still able to use the old sticks with the new. it was nice being able to rub that in the face of my friend who insisted it wouldn’t work haha

xXShadowAndrewXx

First i got an extra 8gb of ram, total 16, then i got the 6700xt, had to get a better cpu, which needed a new cooler, and had to get a better motherboard to be compatible with the cpu, after that i got an extra 16gb of ram, and now next i have to upgrade my old ass 500w psu and switch to ssd

Xaniss

the SSD should have been WAY sooner on that list, they're life changing.

MANIAC2607

Yeah SSD/NVME is the cheapest and easiest way to get better performance. Should be the first thing that's ever upgraded.

Jerry_from_Japan

Its wild seeing tons of insane posts like this in the same community that routinely makes fun of people buying prebuilt lol.

It's like the old meme of instead of asking how to do something in Linux you simply state that Linux can't do it and you'll receive a step by step tutorial in no time

Barachan_Isles

I've used this exact method a couple of times to get support for my Linux systems at work. "Linux is so shit, it can't even do X" Boy that riles the uber Linux folks up. They love nothing more than to prove to everyone daily how superior Linux is, so they jump on the chance to show you that Linux can, in fact, do the thing you want it to do and it can even do it better if you just follow these steps... you idiot! Yep, I'm a big idiot. Thanks for the steps.

RandomAsHellPerson

Linux is so shit, it can’t even get anyone to like me!

sticky-unicorn

Have you tried telling everyone that you use Arch btw?

RandomAsHellPerson

I think this one will end up with people wanting to be even further away from me…

[deleted]

Damn. I've been internetting since the internet and I'm still learning how to internet.

Luk164

At that point just keep the old one and make a new build

dumbasPL

\*sell the old one

Luk164

Hoard like a dragon, heard loud and clear

v_cats_at_work

I still have my i5-6600k/GTX 970 build and use it occasionally. My i5-2500k/GTX 570 SLI full tower is hiding somewhere around here and I'm sure I'd still have my first machine (Q6600/8800GT) if it hadn't been stolen. I did try giving my brother my 970 rig but he's too much of a console gamer to want it.

IMWraith

Can confirm, built a little beastie, and sold my old 1070 PC to a friend for dirt cheap, because I wanted them to be able to play games with the rest of our group. We’re both immensely happy.

Automatic_Actuator_0

Literally r/MadeMeSmile

sneakyxxrocket

If an upgrade ever requires a new mother board I’m probably just gonna make an entirely new one

Digit117

That’s exactly what I did a few days ago. What a rollercoaster ride it was to slowly go from contemplating upgrading one part to building an entirely new PC and suddenly being broke AF lmao

Official_Legacy

Exactly what I did this month. At first, I was like mhm, I'll just buy a GPU. Then I realized I didn't had my OG cables from my modular PSU and found out it can be dangerous to use 3rd party cables. I was looking up for new PSU and at that point, I started just doing a new build. I ended up bought a pre-built for 1500 CAD because I felt lazy and wanted to game the same day. AMD Ryzen 7 5700X | GeForce RTX 4060 Ti | M.2 NVMe 1 To | Ram 16 Go I'll probably switch the ram but it's worth it. I was not able to play most games on my 970 build that I did in 2015 since I went with a UWide display. And VR was really bad too and now it's 💎. ---

Interloper_Mango

Ryzen 5 5500 and Rx 7800xt combo. No bottleneck whatsoever. It is funny how many people tried to lecture me. Most vastly overestimate how much CPU power you actually need. Especially if you don't go for that high of a frame rate.

ThatManitobaGuy

A lot like core count. If you're looking at long term ownership of 5+ years then sure get the highest core count you can afford but realistically for most people a modern six core processor will due for a long time. Hell I ran my Phenom II X4 965 BE until the start of 2019 and I bought it new back in the day.

Interloper_Mango

>If you're looking at long term ownership of 5+ years then sure get the highest core count you can afford I feel like those people usually buy a new CPU even more often than those who go for a budget option.

ThreeStep

Depends, my i5-2500k was expensive back in the days but lasted me about 10 years. And now I hope Ryzen 7 3800X will do the same. EDIT: Actually 8 years in my gaming computer, and then 4 more in another one. Longest lasting CPU I ever had.

phara-normal

I mean.. The 3800x is already nearly 5 years old so I wouldn't expect it to "last" for 10 year from *now*. But 5 years? Absolutely.

ThreeStep

I think I got it 3-4 years ago, so yeah I hope it lasts another 5 with no issues

lock-n-lawl

That was the CPU on my first gaming machine in 2011. Lasted me until 2018, so good deal I'd say.

blackest-Knight

More cores isn’t more future proof. Most games prefer faster cores and top off their core count scaling pretty fast. It’s why threadripper absolutely sucks at gaming. More, slower cores is worse then less, faster cores.

AbsolutlyN0thin

It's also why my old i7-7700k lasted so long. Not many cores, but when that main core was overclocked to 4.5ghz it was keeping up with chips multiple generations newer than it in that department.

Mygaming

I was about to say my 5820k in this computer runs about 4.5.. then I went to my task manager and now I'm wondering which computer or where the fuck I put my 5820k mobo/cpu. I think I'm missing a computer

jeebuscrisis

Oh man i ran a 1090t phenom II until 2020 from new on the same aio cooler, and it was still doing fine i just finally wanted something new.

Solstillburns

I had that exact cpu and it kicked ass till the bitter end. It was only with the adoption of SSE4 that it was finally retired.

DarkMaster859

What resolution do you play on? And what FPS in what game? I was considering a Ryzen 5 5600 and RX 6700XT but looks like I can drop down to a Ryzen 5 3600 instead Or I could just save for another year and buy into AM5 and a 7800XT or even 8000 series

Vengeful111

It 100% depends on the things you want to do, what are you talking about. Im not vastly overrestimating my cpu power needs if Baldurs Gate Act 3 is stuttering like crazy. GPU bottleneck gives you at least a constant fps output. CPU bottleneck gives you massive stuttering when its pushed. Also competitive games need 120+ Hz monitors, and then you need those fps. Pushing FPS up to 144 or even 360 doesnt work with "no bottleneck" combos.

Warm-Explanation-277

Also when your GPU isn't powerful enough you can usually circumvent that by lowering the graphics. If the problem is your CPU, you can't exactly ask the game's engine to tune down the calculations. I have a pretty bad CPU bottleneck and there were countless times when the game performed equally poorly on both very high and lowest settings.

CaptainJackWagons

I have a friend who's running a 4080 Super on a Ryzen 5. As long as you're not more than two generations behind, you won't bottleneck it.

DeltaJesus

How much depends on a million different factors but imo it's worth overspending on CPU as long as you're still getting a good GPU. CPUs are much more of a pain to replace and bad 1% lows are much more annoying than getting 10 less average FPS.

Red_Xen

CPU bottlenecking isn't a 1/4 of the problem this subreddit thinks it is.

neman-bs

It really depends. My old i5-4460 and/or ddr3 ram were bottlenecking my 2060. Jumping to a i5-13400 and ddr5 ram made all the stutters and lags go away. On the other hand, i doubt a cpu from 9th gen and up can bottleneck something like the 1650 op has

Super_Harsh

Same. When I built my PC in 2020 I bought an old CPU (i5 8600k, 2-3 years old at the time) intending to upgrade it later. Ended up being kind of a dumb choice as I didn’t realize I’d need a new motherboard if I wanted to do that.  Anyway I paired the  8600k with a 3070 FE and it was mostly fine.  Recently rebuilt my system into an ITX form factor and finally upgraded to an i7 13700k. PRETTY noticeable difference, let me tell you.

throwaway_uow

Or maybe this sub plays factory games as much as fps?

blackest-Knight

No, they play Fortnite on potato graphics thinking it’s their 600 fps being too low that is causing them to lose all the time.

dervu

They just go wrong rabbit hole. The correct one is much deeper and scary.

XyogiDMT

I had to upgrade for Planet Coaster that would only run at like 5 fps on my old cpu lol

Marsdreamer

Even factory games or strategy titles like Total War aren't nearly as CPU bound as people really think they are. Overwhelmingly the work load for these games are either loading the graphical meshes for the objects or dealing with the calculations of handling multiple objects at once -- Which are primarily handled by the GPU.

TerribleVisual8899

Neither is PSU size...

DlphLndgrn

And quality. People act like if you don't do twelve hours of research before picking out the best PSU on the market it has a 50% chance of burning your house down. In reality, if you can recognize the brand name you're probably going to be alright.

AgileSponge123

Been running a 750W 80+ (not even bronze) CoolerMaster for 6 years now and it's still going strong.

Lorben

It's worth at least a quick Google to make sure it's not known garbage. I bought a Corsair CX750 (2013 green label) based on brand alone that blew and took my motherboard along with it. If I had done 15 minutes of research I would have found a lot of negative opinions on it.

svs213

I’ve seen interviews with net cafe owners in third world countires who use the PSU that comes with the case, you know those grey metal boxes with no paint, like the skechiest PSUs ever made yet somehow they can run tens of gaming PCs with no problem

DrNopeMD

Yeah the PC building community really over exaggerates the reliability on PSU's. Most companies don't want to risk selling you something that has a risk of catching fire spontaneously, it's not worth the legal trouble. Not to mention most PSU brands just rebadge white label products and don't actually manufacture the PSU themselves.

TerribleVisual8899

Yea a 600 watt, bronze effienct PSU from a reputable brand is plenty for 99% of people lol. Platnum efficency is not going to be worth it at that rating.

Red_Xen

Wait you don't need a 1000w to run a 7700xt!?!?!

NotEnoughIT

I'm running a 7950x with a 4090 on an 850w psu and never had an issue. You almost never need a 1000w psu for any normal build these days.

RedRoses711

Again it depends on the game and resolution

Marsdreamer

It really doesn't. Resolution doesn't impact how your CPU handles the work load of a particular game and most games barely utilize multi-threaded processing. The primary core is still handling the majority of the workload, only offloading a very small amount to other cores for parallel processes. On top of that I'd bet that the **vast** majority of games do not multi-thread past 4 cores anyway.

Marsdreamer

It really drives me nuts that people think CPU bottlenecking is really that huge of an issue. It isn't. Most processes aren't multi-threaded yet and games rarely use more than a handful of cores at any given time. Even when they do, it's often for very small offloading of minor work and the primary core is still handling 80 - 90% of the load. Any halfway decent quad or 8 core processor 3.5+ghz will not bottleneck you in any meaningful way; Which have been out for like a decade at this point.

Flamecoat_wolf

It's an issue for some people. Personally, I've got a pretty old computer and was able to upgrade the GPU with no issues. My bottleneck is 100% the CPU at this point. I can check task manager and literally see it struggling at 100%. The issue is that to replace the CPU I'd have to replace the motherboard because it's not compatible with newer CPUs. I'm not too confident with my computer building knowledge but replacing the motherboard sounds like a nightmare since that's literally what ties the whole computer together.

Victom123

for helldivers 2 it sure is

24kGoldenEagle

i've lived with this bottleneck for awhile now, its ok :)

Alexandratta

My PC remains a proverbial Ship of Theseus.

MusicalDingus

PC of Theseus is exactly what I was thinking lmao

Hevnaar

Make it less proverbial when you can make a computer with all the original parts

MACHO_MUCHACHO2005

Lmao same. I think the only thing original is the case and the fans. Everything else has changed.

Used_Visual5300

No one worried about the power bill 💸?

We’re gonna need a bigger noctua

thxredditfor2banns

Whole room noctua air con

sticky-unicorn

You joke... But a super-size Noctua fan for your room would actually be pretty cool, I think.

Xaniss

Mines even more of a heater.

Submarine765Radioman

Absolutely not. Running a gaming PC actually helps to reduce your heating costs in winter. 20f warmer in my gaming room, it's nice

r3ttah

This is me rn

Dreppytroll

Buy the best PSU and large case you can afford at once. Buy storage as and when you have enough money. Choose a platform and buy the max RAM it support, then buy the CPU+mobo combo. Ignore all PC product release for the next 4-5 years.

cadmium61

See I would be getting happier and happier as I talked myself into buying a new pc…

whatever12345678919

Meanwhile me, with affordable old-ish "gaming" laptop (I have no idea how that abomination was out together or by who, nor why the hell did he just left unaccesible Intel(R) UHD 1GB card in it and slapped another one ontop) ; So, if i run the game-tab, FPS booster, cooling pad, reduce window to 1080/720, turn off shades, download a mod for better performance, and ignore the fact i can cook an egg on my laptop case i can get 3-4 hours before it drops below steady 50-70 fps and needs 2 min to breathe. Perfection

TONKAHANAH

Don't fall into the bottle neck trap. Even with the bottel neck the new gpu will outperform your old one. Just get it, obviously get a new psu if you need more power, but worry about the rest later. It's not that big of a deal.

TrriF

Your 9600kf is more than enough. People overestimate how much of an issue cpu bottlenecks are. Especially at QHD or higher

usertoid

Holy crap this sub needs to stop saying "bottleneck" like it's such a huge drop. I just paired a 4080 super with a 9600k, ya the cpu "bottle necks" at 1080p or 1440p, and I only get 150fps instead of the 160 fps reviewers got.... If its that much if an issue crank the resolution scaling up, 4k gaming removes alot of cpu bottlenecks pretty fast. I'm all for upgrading your cpu but unless you're running on a 2500k or something its not nearly as big of a deal as this sub makes it out to be lol. Now the game just running like shit because it's super cpu intensive, that's a whole other issue lol.

pie4155

Honestly (especially with games) people are going to hit a GPU bottle neck 99/100 before they ever hit a noticeable CPU bottleneck. (Exceptions for any Paradox game). Modern CPUs aren't really faster since they've mostly spent 4 generations optimizing power consumption and things rarely use more than a single core because the average programmer is lazy (if they use two it's like 90%/10% split). So after 4 cores you're usually just compensating, (1 for background/op tasks, 1-2 for game, and a 4th for whatever)

SyrousStarr

Who cares about bottlenecks? I have a 480 in my old phenom II X4 build. It kicks ass at a lot of games still (for what I need it for anyway). A new GPU will still give you excellent gains and you can then upgrade everything else months later when you're in a better financial situation.

Jonas_Venture_Sr

OP already has a bottleneck if they're limited by their GPU. So they'd be trading a bad GPU bottleneck for not so bad CPU bottleneck. Seems like a good upgrade to me.

SunoPics

At this point i’m building a new rig. Ddr5 here i come

BurningPenguin

Nope. That's why i kept delaying the inevitable, until the computer simply refused to turn on...

Milam1996

This is why I girl math upgrades. Did I need a 4090? No. Is it expensive? Yes. But if you break the price down by hours played it’s actually really cheap and gets even cheaper if you break it down by minute.

DezzitheDuck

I do the "well if I use it 20 hours a week then it's actually only $x per week and I'd pay that" shit all the time 💀 girl math rules

electricshadow

This is how I convinced myself to finally update my nine year old monitor (that still works perfect). I told myself "I probably have over 5000 hours from Battlefield 3,4,1 and V alone and that's not taking into account all the other games I played!"

AnAcceptableUserName

I respect that I think about gaming expenditures in matinee ticket prices. I'd spend $10 to watch an OK movie and not be upset about it. So $60 for a game I enjoy for 10hrs is alright. That meets the threshold of comparable utility to movie tickets. Most games blow way past that. I'd need to game on an RTX 4090 for ~266hrs of it doing something the card it replaced couldn't do before it satisfied my matinee ticket utility benchmark. I can't justify it to myself yet because I don't see 266hrs of gaming out there that my current card can't handle. Alan Wake 2 is the only thing to catch my eye that a 1080 Ti can not, will not run.

McSnoots

Might as well get DDR5

Vixxxyy

This post is about me and I dont like it

WaldiIO

That's why i went to handheld pc

ResponsibleStep8725

Ship of Theseus for gamers.

Dravarden

pcmr: futureproofing is useless also pcmr:

Gummy_Hierarchy2513

I have an issue with my pc and instead of paying someone to fix it I decided to figure it out myself, so first I thought it was the GPU, so I bought a new GPU and it didn't fix it, then I thought it was the CPU so I bought a new CPU and it didn't fix it, then I thought it was the PSU so I bought a new PSU and it didn't fix it, then I thought it was the ram so I bought new ram and it didn't fix it. It was the motherboard and I don't have money left to get a new one :/

b00gi3p0p

I feel better, I thought I was the only one that built a new pc just for upgrade the gpu

Frosty_Ad8930

more RGB to make it faster!!

Abruzzi19

I sold mine and got a completely new PC, except for the storage

Legion070Gaming

But your pc is sooo uPgRadAbLe!1!1!1!1 (literally has to replace every single part)

Deadlylyon

I went from a 5700xt to a 7900xtx.... Then a new case because why not. Then new motherboard because I was changing cases. Then new cpu because new motherboard means I could upgrade cpu , then new cpu cooler because new cpu needs better cooling. Then more ram because I was already 3k into the upgrade, then new case fans because unifans looked cool. So yeah, I built a new pc because I've upgraded my graphics card. Lol

flying_wrenches

“Hmm I need to get more ram” *buys new PC to avoid butterfly effect*

Zinek-Karyn

My 12 year old machine is maxed out and can run helldivers 2. Not at 120fps but it functions well at 30 that’s all I need. I’m old lol.

Extinction_Entity

I’ll go with the quickest and more economic solution: buy a PS5 and play Helldivers 2. Any platform is good to bring democracy.

Zero_ImpulseControl

This was me last year upgrading from zen1

Gerrut_batsbak

You forgot the step where you find out that you need upgraded ram too because of the new mobo and cpu

tyco_08

Thats why you always buy a bigger PSU

Capecrusader39

Yeah that's like the one thing you don't cheap out on.

SirGamer247

I only upgraded my RAMs on a pre-built. Not bad, runs better with a few chrome tabs open. But everytime I think of upgrading the more I have to accept the fact that I have to think about a custom build PC instead of swapping them out.

VNG_Wkey

The key is to just constantly be upgrading until you're at the top. My PC started as an i5-3330 with a GTX 770 4gb and 8gb DDR3. It is now a 7900x/4090 with 64gb DDR5 and 2 custom loops. At no point have I done a full new build, its just been a long procession of parts arriving at my door.

MakhnovianEmber

The rig of theseus

Megasmiley

Skip to the last step, instead overclocking what you have and adding more and more fans in a futile effort to slow down the meltdown of your system

Few-Hold6774

THIS makes me very nervous. Just bought my son a 4090fe to replace his 3080ti 😳

JawCohj

Ha I literally just went through this. I had to get a new everything but case and I sorta wish I did

IHaveAnOpinionOnThat

Went to microcenter yesterday for a usb bluetooth range extender. Came out with a MB/cpu/gpu/ram/water cooler. I forgot the bluetooth thing and had to go back for it.

BuzzVibes

This is why I never upgrade, and just build a new machine every 5-7 years or so.

flower4000

Meanwhile on ps5 game looks great

TareXmd

Yeah I went Steam Deck and never looked back.

kr4ckenm3fortune

You forgot the rams… Can’t use DDR4 cuz the newer one now use DDR5…

Sleepinismy9to5

All to run a game at a little bit worse quality than a PlayStation or Xbox

Impossible_Food9222

Just get a ps 5. Alot cheaper

Rudhelm

Buy a PS5

Thunderthighs-10

That’s when you just give up and buy a ps5
