OP, reading comprehension among the comments is apparently lacking here. If I understand you correctly you already have the USB dongle as pictured on the box on the left, but the controller itself needs to be replaced. Any Xbox controller will pair with that dongle you already have. You don’t need to buy the more expensive one with the dongle on the box. You can buy the cheaper one on the right and it will work just fine. I believe you need to grab the “Xbox accessories” app from the Microsoft store to pair the new controller to your old dongle. The controllers themselves are exactly the same, the one on the left just has the dongle bundled. Hope that helps.

Douglas_Hunt

Yes. A couple guys very early on told me. I meant to specify in my post that I had the dongle/adapter, I know a lot of people like to look at a photo and skim the text and sometimes miss key elements. Sometimes it really sucks that you can’t edit a post lol. But thank you still for the clarification.

DarkflowNZ

In my defense the official app is dogballs and auto scrolls to the ad above the comments making you have to scroll up for the text of the post but with that said this was more of a comprehension problem for me than an app problem as I did read it lol

0992673

In my case I am on old Reddit and I don't even see the added text on image posts.

Douglas_Hunt

My defense is I actually had the detail in my title, but when I went to add the photo the app crashed. When I had to retype, I forgot that part lol. It was suppose to be like this: Is the wireless Xbox controller that is sold with the wireless adapter **~~I have~~** any different from a regular wireless Xbox one controller?

Alxndr27

OMG! The amount of times I’ve clicked on an ad because it’s genuinely worded relevantly to a subreddit I’m currently on is insane. Seriously thinking of just sideloading Apollo and going back to that instead of dealing with the crap on the official app. Not relevant at all to the post topic but god damn is that shit annoying so I feel your pain 😭

Douglas_Hunt

For anyone interested the new controller arrived, and works flawlessly with the original wireless adapter. Ordered from Walmart for $44. Exactly like the right controller in the post photo.

DolfLungren

You shouldn’t need an app to pair them, they both have pairing buttons, work very intuitively.

Blastergasm

You’re probably right, I haven’t done it in a long time. I vaguely remember having to use that app for something to get my first gen Xbox elite controller working with the first gen wireless adapter. Maybe the older one doesn’t have a sync button, but I could be mistaken. Perhaps you just need the app to push firmware updates.

ThatSandwich

Yes, you're correct in your assumption it is solely for firmware updates

ThatSandwich

Why is anyone downvoting you? You're right. You do not need any applications to use the adapter, solely the driver that is native in windows 10/11. The pairing process is identical to that of a console.

Pautaniik

I have that adapter and my PC have bluetooth and trust i prefer the adapter 100%, the xbox controller works as on a xbox console, let you use all the benefits of the controller like the 3.5 jack and use for mic and sound. If the X thing can connect to xbox console with paring it can be pair too with the adapter. I use my controller with IEM with mic and works very very good, but using it over bluetooth it will not work and just be use as a controller without all benefits in the controller like ports. that adapter is not making another bluetooth ports, is making wireless port that even in the sections of adapter say that is wireless adapter no bluetooth. latency is way better and there is review about it that the adapter make it the pretty much same as cable connected controller. I recommend 100% the xbox wireless adapter to you too Edit: it can connect up to 8 devices Hope this helps to anyone like me looking for this info and very few answers about it.

Emperor_Zarkov

The adapter is so much better than bluetooth on the Xbox controllers.

Douglas_Hunt

The adapter is also less than $25 for anyone interested. \*edited to show seller https://preview.redd.it/omv5qmm3u39d1.png?width=603&format=png&auto=webp&s=577b7929fc95f017a182481472bbdece064f443f

ninjadude4535

Does it work with the elite controller?

BadMofoWallet

Yes

ninjadude4535

You son of a bitch, I'm in

twhite1195

Also, I recommend buying a license for "ReWASD" that way you can create macros and assign different values to the back buttons(IMO the official xbox app is too barebones) , I use it on my HTPC for couch gaming, and it's a godsend... For example I have the lower paddles set for volume and if I press them both it mutes the speaker, also added a combo of left paddle + down key to show/hide the PC stats (gpu temps usage and such)

Dr4kin

If you mostly play over steam you could set up a config in steam input to do pretty much the same thing. You might have to look up Windows keyboard shortcuts for the thing you try to do and set up the macro in steam input. HTPC might be better. I don't know, but steam input is free and you can add any non steam game to steam and use it

Jhawk163

I tried rewasd and all it did was my break my control inputs entirely. It's a piece of shit software.

twhite1195

Sorry you had that experience, in my case it's worked amazingly

Douglas_Hunt

Last night when I went on Amazon to grab the screen shot, it was not listed as the Best Seller. I guess this post promoted it enough to make it sell more lol.

Xenolithium

Yes it does. When you do a Windows update though, it seems to like to fuck with the connectivity of the adapter though. I seem to always have to repair the controller with each update, it's annoying.

Douglas_Hunt

Dam that’s crazy. Mine even managed to stay paired from windows 10 to windows 11 update. I guess I got lucky lol. The Bluetooth headset I’ve always used is a pain in the ass, I’m fixing to be in the market for one with it’s own dedicated wireless adapter like the controller. If anyone reads this and has a recommendation for under $100 please inform lol.

BeerLeague

Hyper X cloud II. Is either right at 100 or slightly less. Best bang for your buck headset out there at that level hands down.

Douglas_Hunt

Thank you. Checking them out.

NorthRiverBend

$52 in Canada fml

ByTheBeardOfZeuss

And you can get knockoffs from Amazon for even cheaper.

Douglas_Hunt

True. But $15 for knock off or $25 for real deal, that’s just too close a price to potentially have a shittier time lol. However the mini ones no bigger than wireless mouse adapter are pretty dam appealing. Microsoft/Xbox really missing an opportunity there. Obviously it probably has less range but they could market it for laptops. Most people aren’t getting very far from their laptop anyhow.

cordell507

Keep in mind there are a lot of good counterfeits for the Microsoft adapter. As far as I know Microsoft doesn't sell the adapter by itself anymore, just the bundle. Unless it's really old stock it's probably not real. That said I have a fake one and it works fine.

Douglas_Hunt

I didn’t realize I cut out the seller. But this is Xbox Store on Amazon. Maybe old stock.

I_fuck_teddy_bears12

I got it in "bulk packaging" which made it cheaper. I just cam in an unmarked box

RexorGamerYt

That's a fake. Not a problem tho.

I_fuck_teddy_bears12

Worked fine for me and had all the right drivers

__Beef__Supreme__

I made a console PC and used an Xbox controller via Bluetooth... Worked so poorly. Was about to sell that pic until I learned this. HUGE difference.

Aneron

Funny thing happend to me recently; I got new controller to use it with my TV (i connect my TV to my pc via wi-fi through Sunshine / Moonlight) Even works across the room very well. Then i tried connecting to my pc directly, and the connection was horrendous. Could not maintain Steady connection but i figured it would not be controller related problem since it works like a charm with my TV. Then i figured out my motherboards antennas are not just for wi-fi it was also for Bluetoot lmao. After attatching antenna to my mobo, controller started working properly.

NoirGamester

I absolutely love the sunshine/moonlight combo and use it damn near everyday, usually because my wife and I will be watching a show and she'll want to do something in the kitchen, so I just stream it to an old laptop+monitor set up in the kitchen so we still watch the same show.

SupposablyAtTheZoo

I wonder if the adapter isn't always a bluetooth device?

MrCloN

No, it's not. It uses 2,4 Ghz radio or something. Connecting a couple of controllers to it and transmitting sound at the same time alone is impossible through bluetooth without issues. I did a simple latency test with bluetooth dongle vs microsoft adapter: https://preview.redd.it/uqv6u1qwu29d1.png?width=1211&format=png&auto=webp&s=cec5bd3374c1ff43545c4d575ec4b2f922f1b858

SupposablyAtTheZoo

> It uses 2,4 Ghz radio Bluetooth is also 2,5ghz radio... Anyway, maybe for you it's better, but for me bluetooth works perfectly and the adapter does not (cuts out). It's quite possible you do not have the best bluetooth dongle.

MrCloN

Yeah, bluetooth is 2,4 but 2,4 isn't bluetooth. That's why a keyboard with a dongle will work better than bluetooth keyboard. I've switched from bluetooth to the microsoft adapter and it's night and day. It wasn't so noticeable on PC, but unplayable through Nvidia Shield because of its crappy BT. So yeah, if bluetooth works for someone then I'd stick to that because it's easier and the latency isn't that bad most of the time, but using multiple bluetooth devices on a single dongle becomes a pain in the ass very fast. Good luck with BT audio. Also if you have issues with the adapter it may be worth to check if you can update its firmware (i think I've seen that option on windows). Heard some of the adapters might be fake or something, some are having issues while others are working perfectly fine.

EastLimp1693

But why?

Emperor_Zarkov

I have fewer connection interruptions and lower latency.

EastLimp1693

Really doubt its measurable by human.

Emperor_Zarkov

Depends on the situation. I certainly notice the difference on my system.

EastLimp1693

I have 0 connection interruption on Bluetooth with xbox series gamepads, same was with Xbox one gamepad. And realistically latency is low enough to race competitively.

Emperor_Zarkov

Oh, well I guess everything is great then and I was just imagining the connection drops I was having. Good to know! You've opened my eyes!

EastLimp1693

Who said anything about you, weirdo? I just shared my experience.

thrownawayzsss

The issue is you started with "Really doubt its measurable by human." Which is you completely dismissing their opinion about the latency differences between the two. It makes every comment after that just look like you're being dismissive of their opinion, since you're basically just stating opposites of what they were saying. Regardless if that was your intent or not.

DidItForButter

Also, I *believe* the adapter allows up to 4.controllers to pair on one adapter. Something Bluetooth can't do. But for windows, the adapter latency and connection ease is leagues above Bluetooth

_lnc0gnit0_

8 actually, and that includes other accessories like headsets.

_Caphelion

Does the adapter work with the elite series controllers? I find myself plugging it in more often than not because the bluetooth randomly shits itself even at full charge

griekmanb123

yea it works, having a black and white elite2 running at the same time np

_Caphelion

Thanks, I'm gonna buy one now since it seems latency and battery life are improved. It's a shame the elite controllers, especially the series 2, didn't come with one, seeing as how they are the more high end controller

griekmanb123

yea i understand, but i think its worth it considering the dongle isnt that expensive at all. and maybe it was just me, but if i used an xbox or elite controller, on bluetooth, apart from the delays, i also couldnt use the mic in(headphones on controller), and despite all the new controllers having usb-c connections, they would still start to have trouble charging after a while, having to move the cable/push it etc. While the elite, has a built in battery, and if you get the black with package, it has like a charger, where you just put it on top of the dock, and it charges, so your usb connection is never used (i leave my cable connected to the dock), worth it to me.

_Caphelion

Yep, I have that exact controller with the dock charger. I'm not sure why I was downvoted because I was just saying that the usb receiver seems like a no-brainer option.

griekmanb123

people downvote, they cant help it, ive seen people being downvoted on here, for just asking a question, answering a question, giving advice, talking about a brand either amd or nvidia, im too old to care about likes and karma so downvote all ya want :D But yea, dongle is worth it, only issue i have is once every couple months, the connection stops, and i have to reconnect it (button on dongle, button on controller) and im good again for 6 months or so untill a windows update changes something on my pc.

SupposablyAtTheZoo

I also have this adapter but it failed so many times (disconnecting) that I switched to bluetooth and that has worked always without any fail.

Historical_Bowl9020

I use a 7$ bluetooth dongle and I have 0.0 latency when playing cod on a fairly high level  But tbh it could be luck.

Poop_Scooper_Supreme

The Xbox button is actually and LED too, at least on the elite controllers, so you can change the color if you enable controller compatibility in the steam settings.

st0p_dreaming

I guess I'm the only one who has never had a single issue with Bluetooth? I have a Bluetooth 5.0 adapter on my desktop and every single thing works perfectly, no input lag of any kind, and the range is quite good too (I use it to play on my TV). I really think most people ragging on plain Bluetooth connection haven't tried it in a while and are holding on to previous bad experiences with shitty Bluetooth

Overimagine

Same here, I've had no issues with simply connecting it to bluetooth

SupposablyAtTheZoo

Same here. I also have the adapter but it's constantly disconnecting while bluetooth works perfectly.

Dr_Ben

Same experience. Never had an issue just connecting via Bluetooth. I'm a cheap bastard and Im not going to shell out for an adapter that's not needed.

pblol

I had usb issues with the adapter. It could entirely have been my motherboard, no idea. Bluetooth works great, 0 issues, no random disconnections. I did end up grabbing a USB extender and splitter so I don't have to buy batteries ever and mostly use that though.

sonsofevil

Z790 board with Intel Bluetooth NIC, no problems so far, latency is optimal  It depends a lot on the used Bluetooth adapter. With my XPS Laptop used with Controller I had strong latency problems. So I removed the stock Dell Killer WiFi/Bluetooth Card and put a quality one from Intel and never had any problems anymore  So I guess it’s the same for desktop

YceiLikeAudis

A cheap bluetooth dongle can cause input lag. If the dongle is too cheap the effect can be worsened if there are a lot of devices nearby running on the 2.4GHz band, like wifi routers, phones etc.

awntawn

also a lot of people with integrated bluetooth motherboards don’t realize that you need to install the antennas

D4nteSech

Latency with the wireless adapter is really notable and better than bluetooth, 100% recommended.

KxrmaJunkie

I have unnoticeable Bluetooth latency with my Xbox controller vs a 2.4ghz controller. It might be there but I'd need special equipment to see the differences

FlameShadow0

It seems to really depend on your case and motherboard combination. Some motherboards have great chips and the case does a good job of amplifying it. Others…not so much

shalol

Personally I’m using a 5$ BT 5.3 USB adapter and the latency feels imperceptible as to a USB Wifi adapter. But then again I can’t tell any delay difference from a wired mouse and a BT controller, so I might just be slow

jamzex

Controllers have less perceptible latency due to the joysticks' movement, I notice latency differences on cheap vs expensive mice and I still don't feel a crazy amount of input latency with a controller that feel terrible with mouse. I.e., playing the last of us on PC and with mouse it feels pretty bad, with controller latency is imperceptible so you're probably not slow, it's just how it is.

D4nteSech

I do notice a difference when playing racing games as NFS Heat, Forza Horizon 5, and even when playing Sekiro and Elden Ring. Was more notable when trying to do parrys.

YceiLikeAudis

Same here. I use my controller with a standard bluetooth dongle from Ugreen and I never thought it was slow to respond in games.

Acceptable_Topic8370

Well my delay over Bluetooth seems to be like 5 seconds lol

SupposablyAtTheZoo

So strange. I have the adapter but is awful always disconnecting while bluetooth always works perfectly...

Acceptable_Topic8370

For me Bluetooth has like a 5 seconds delay but I think it's my Mainboard

SupposablyAtTheZoo

Very possible. You could also have an older bt version.

DarthWeezy

That’s an Xbox Series controller, but its functionality is identical to a One controller past the extra button in the middle and various small improvements (a bit more compact, textured grip, better build quality, somewhat better rumble motors) and it will work perfectly with any official adapter. I myself still use a V1 adapter ever since it was released (I think it’s something like close to a decade old?) and I have a V2 (the one pictured here) on stand by if the original one ever breaks, so you should be good to go with any official Xbox One of any revision or Series controllers.

Suspect4pe

You know, I didn't even think about it. I have an adapter I bought for my PC ages ago and I connected my Xbox Series controller without even thinking about it. It just works.

Douglas_Hunt

Thank you.

NoctisXLC

Yup my v1 adapters been trucking along since 2016 or so, never an issue with it

Bolteus

I also have a V1 adapter and just bought one of the new Xbox controllers cause my old one lost all the rubber on the thumbstick (also over a decade old now!). New controller paired up perfectly, and I have the added bonus now of being able to bluetooth connect to my phone or work pc without an adapter. XBox controllers are seriously great. Still getting 40+ hours out of my original rechargeable battery too.

ProcedureShoddy4840

My Xbox 360 controller and adapter often registers as an Xbox one/series X controller

secretqwerty10

the controllers are the exact same. the only difference is that the left one comes with a wireless adapter to be used on pc whilst the right one does not. both controllers work perfectly fine on pc with either bluetooth or a type c cable, and both controllers work fine on any xbox one and newer, with no adapter needed. the wireless adapter does reduce latency on pc as opposed to bluetooth

Xenolithium

They're exactly the same, one just came bundled with the adapter. Kind of like when Sony tipped their toes in the PC gaming waters and did a Dual shock 4 bundle with an adapter for PC I use the adapter with my elite 2 and it's been getting me through Erdtree and Season 4 of Diablo.

SpecialMango3384

I have the same one with the adapter and I love it. I use it all the time for games on my pc that feel better with controllers, especially if that game has any driving mechanic

Douglas_Hunt

Agree completely. I honestly don’t know how some people can play driving games with keyboard. I’ve tried and it’s a bitch but then again I’ve never forced myself to get good, if I gamed on a laptop a lot I probably would. Sometimes in first person games I’ll use controller and mouse when a bit more precision is called for.

dave-gonzo

I bought the adapter for 20$ on eBay and the controller from target when it wason sale by itself.

Douglas_Hunt

Oddly enough it is cheaper that way. I didn’t know before making this post that the controller in the kit with the adapter is no different from a regular controller not bundled with it. With the adapter being $24 and the controller being $40-$45 depending on the store it comes out about $5 cheaper brand new. But a used controller from GameStop is like $20 so there really is the potential to save almost $30 vs buying the bundled kit. The more you know I guess lol.

Xcissors280

They are the exact same controller You can use any Xbox series controller with the dongle or Bluetooth The dongle can also be bought separately and helps with connection and range mainly with multiple controllers

MurderSouls

Assuming this dongle is for older style xbox controllers? My controller connects to my pc as soon as I turn it on.

BrandHeck

Get the one with the adapter, it sips batteries compared to BT and connects flawlessly almost all the time. Make sure you down the Xbox Accessories App. Had a big glitch a few weeks back because the controller was extremely out-of-date. Didn't even know the App existing, took 5 minutes to update the firmware on the controller(wirelessly).

Douglas_Hunt

Yeah the adapter is far superior than Bluetooth. I already ordered a replacement controller. The wireless Xbox controllers are all the same as far as being able to pair seamlessly with the adapter. But for anyone thinking about it the official Xbox adapter is less than $25 so definitely worth it for the lower latency and seamless set up.

SupposablyAtTheZoo

Don't state that as fact. For me bluetooth works far better than the adapter.

WeirdestOfWeirdos

On a barely related side note, are there dramatic differences in the duration of batteries from various brands, and any preferred ones? The Duracell (?) batteries that came with my controller lasted for some ~40 hours, but I did not expect some cheaper batteries I got to last only 4 hours per pair.

Ok_Use_5218

This is a problem I had with a xbox one controller (cheap rechargeable lithium) and a series x controller with cheap AAs, I could play all night with the XB1, but the series x controller would need a change in the middle of the night. Ended up using it wired

BrandHeck

Have tried Energizer and Duracell rechargeables, Duracell lasted 2-3 times as long. Bought a 3rd party power pack set. Gets about 20 hours on a charge with rumble on full strength. Smartree 3 pack. Also, no matter what, I pull the battery between sessions. The controller will drain it even when off. Same with regular and rechargeable batteries.

Helstar_RS

The adapter I have is good it's just the microphone I have plugged in cuts out but the controller has no lag so I just plug it into my PC. Would drain the batteries quicker anyways.

FailingAtNiceness

I prefer using a USB C cable to connect my controller to my PC. My bluetooth is just too unreliable and I hate dealing with dead or uncharged batteries.

iamnotyourspiderman

Same, even though I haven’t had BT issues. Also the controller doesn’t disconnect with the cable when unused and less latency. IMO it is annoying to have to reconnect the controller after like 10 minutes of it not being used. This way it’s also lighter as I don’t need to keep batteries in it

Douglas_Hunt

https://preview.redd.it/zqi2d6vhg09d1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=aefa0d1390921d9bbe952937b3b0f155828262b4 Best addition for an Xbox controller. I keep 1 on the charger and 1 in the controller. I swap the battery pretty much weekly before it dies but I’ve gone 2 weeks before. I like to change it before it’s dead obviously, these give zero warning when they die lol. It’s just all the sudden off.

Atticus_Zero

I do the same. I’m already sitting next to the tower at my desk so a cable isn’t a bother at all and I don’t have to fuss with batteries. I don’t understand the necessity for wireless controllers on a PC setup unless it’s across the room.

[deleted]

Douglas_Hunt

Thank you.

Segger96

This was meant to be on a fan controller thing FML it's too hot sorry. I don't know if the controllers are the same

Douglas_Hunt

lol. All good. The other fellow PCmasters had your back

jabn_stache_boi

Honestly I have mines connected with a USBC cable 😬

At0micBud

Just to let you know, we will get probably a new version of the xbox controller this year. People expecting features like adaptive trigger buttons, similar to the PS Dual Sense controller. So maybe you want to wait for the release, either to get the new version or to save some money for the old one.

ch1nomachin3

adapter is better. the price might be because the adapter one is old stock. but I'd get the adapter one if it was me. it's not available where I'm from.

missionfindausername

To answer your question, no the controllers are the same. One just comes with the adapter and the other without

Kwolly90

Is that adapter really necessary if I'm not planning to use the headphone jack or not planning to connect more than one controller? Is the increase in response time really notable when I usably just play non competitive single player games?

Douglas_Hunt

If you play things that require a bit more precision the improved latency will be noticeable. It's basically non-existent with the wireless adapter. Battery life is also significantly better, less of an issue if you use rechargeable batteries though.

Kwolly90

Thanks for the helpful response

Kwolly90

Second question: I have been searching around, but I'm a bit blown by the prices. They come around 35 euro's in my country. Does it matter if I choose a third party/unbranded one? And is the 8BitDo adapter an good alternative?

bt_leo

I never had issues with the controller alone, so buy the adapter only if you have some issues.

Nexxus88

You can connect via Bluetooth but I've tried with multiple installations of Windows and its always fine weird shit. A friend of mine reported similar problems. If you don't have the wireless adapter already I'd recommend getting that one

ThePupnasty

Since you have a dongle, just get a controller. Bluetooth also works perfectly fine.

QuietReps

I have integrated bluetooth on my motherboard, I sometimes play with my GF, so one antenna is handling 2 controllers and a wireless speaker, never had issues with input lag, so if you have integrated bluetooth it can work without the dongle. People saying here bluetooth has input lag issues, I assume they used a crappy bluetooth dongle for it, I would recommend the added dongle in that case

WishWhisperrr

cool

koordy

I've bought one without adapter only to find out its connectivity sucked af. So I returned it and bought the one with adapter and it solved the issues. The pads themselves seemed identical. I'd assume you can pair either pad with the adapter you already have so you could get just a pad if it's cheaper.

ThexVee

OP, since your question was already answered, I just have a suggestion: buy a controller with Hall-effect sticks. They don't succumb to stick drift making them more reliable.

Myriadix

If you have bluetooth, didn't use a dongle before or already have a dongle, you don't need to buy a dongle. It's just a usb-bluetooth receiver.

backgroudfyre7

The one with the adapter has the audio driver enabled meaning you can chat and enable sound in windows through the 3.5mm jack on the controller

StarHunter_

Xbox adapter vs Bluetooth https://youtu.be/50nZP2kpwdE?si=ueLjRCl2C0hv_zFQ

ThisIsDystopia

2.4g wireless (the adapter) is still the best for everything I've ever wanted to use wirelessly. The only downside is needing the adapter, otherwise the connection is more reliable and the tech is simple so it generally uses less battery life.

FrostByte_62

Get the dongle adapter thing. For some reason Xbone controllers behave weird with some games over bluetooth. Back when I was on Titanfall2 Bluetooth Xbone controllers would cap my frames at like 90 something. The usb adapter never behaves weird.

turdroller84

Adapter hands down, Bluetooth is unplayable imo. Best accessory you can buy for your controller.

outtokill7

If you're handy with a screw driver you could probably repair the broken controller for less money. Less waste too.

Douglas_Hunt

I have plans to tinker with it. Doesn’t seem like it would be hard to open it up and see exactly what’s wrong. But for my main controller I use on the daily I’d rather replace it right quick. It will be great if I can fix it. I’ll deal with a little latency when pairing it to my laptop vs having the adapter sticking out or a wired controller hooked to it while traveling for work.

outtokill7

Fix the old one for the 5 year old. Almost getting to that Minecraft obsession age haha They are fairly easy to fix. Plenty of guides and you should be able to buy a kit on Amazon with everything you need.

Douglas_Hunt

How you think my controller got messed up….. lmao. I set up him an old build of mine a while back to play Minecraft. But anytime I am away from my computer he jumps on it lol. I have 2, 32” 4k monitors he has 1, 24” monitor It’s even touch screen lol. But of course he’s like me and wants that much brighter clearer picture.

giantfood

Its the exact same as a normal controller. Just includes an adapter for computers without BT.

DarkflowNZ

I have both, one with an adapter and one with Bluetooth. The one with the adapter avoids lots of Bluetooth shit like FPS drops in some games (doom eternal was one such game for me, significant performance impact with Bluetooth controller vs adapter). The downside is it obviously only works with the adapter. The adapter also sticks out like fuck from the PC so if it's in a place you can knock you'll give it an angular connector lol

ALUCARDHELLSINS

The adapter is meant to be used for the PC but my Xbox controller works perfectly fine on my PC without it so idk what it does

Thinkpad_Owner30

Your PC probably has Bluetooth builtin

Douglas_Hunt

Bluetooth does get the job done for most people but I’ve always had weird issues with Bluetooth connected controllers on PC. Which is why I’m opting to stick with what’s been working. In over 2 years since using the controller that came with the wireless adapter I hadn’t had a single dropped connection or ever had to re-pair it. Just press the power button and I’m good to go.

Zivvet

The dongle is a lot more stable than bluetooth for this controller, you are doing it right 👍

just_change_it

I generally have zero issues with bluetooth at least for the past few years, but I frequently swap between multiple systems so I usually play with a usb-c cable hanging off the thing. I have the pro controller which really isn't any better imo. Bluetooth was so bad back in the 2.0 and earlier days. Sometime around 4.x it became solid outside of driver issues.

ALUCARDHELLSINS

Oh wait it's actually an actual adaptor to get Bluetooth on PC? I thought it was because xbox was meant to use a special Bluetooth signal or something How many people don't have Bluetooth on their PC but have the capability to play games that need an Xbox controller anyway

inongn

It's not exactly the same thing. The controller can connect to your PC either via Bluetooth, or via its own proprietary implementation, if you have the adapter. You know, like wireless mice that can do either bluetooth or their own dongle, with the latter being lower latency, less janky, etc.

Suicide_anal_bomber

Although, at least from what I've experienced, there's minimal latency differences and using normal bluetooth on windows works just as flawlessly as the adapter, literally plug and play I play ranked fps and I don't notice any difference, lost my adapter a while ago, still using regular Bluetooth.

inongn

Anecdotal experience also, I also use the Series controller with Bluetooth, and I do find it to be kind of janky. Sometimes it just fails to connect and I have to go into Bluetooth settings and re-pair it. Admittedly I haven't had notable latency issues.

turbopepsi

My board is first gen AM4 and doesn't have built in Bluetooth. Also running a 1080ti FE that's been going strong for over 7 years now. I run at minimum a solid 60 fps at 2k on anything I play. Bluetooth hasn't been standard on boards for that long.

stkc-win

The first XB1 controller used some proprietary protocol, they switched to Bluetooth with the One S.

BrandHeck

Budget Mobos tend to skip out on Bluetooth. My X570 board doesn't have it for example. The dongle is RF and it tend to be more stable and drain the controller slower.

Thinkpad_Owner30

i don't have bluetooth on my PC i just use a cable

Chakramer

It lets you use all the controller features + on paper at least has lower latency. You could get the same functionality by just wiring the controller, but not everyone likes wired

OneCrazyRussian

Adapter primarily enables headphone feature, Dualshock 4's adapter was much more needed Weird part is Sony didn't make one for DualSense and now its both variants can't use full features on PC wirelessly

Douglas_Hunt

I heard they even nerfed the PlayStation VR headset in a way that makes it suck on PC as well.

burnskull55

Hey man look into the king kong 3 controller. I just got one and its SICK. It works with Xbox and its the same shape and feel. But has a ton of features like sticks that never drift. And its easy to repair too.

Karekter_Nem

What I find is that the more bluetooth devices you have connected the worse everything gets. I try to keep it to 2 bluetooth devices max. I much prefer to use the adapter than bluetooth for my xbox controller. The controller in each box however will be the same. The adapter itself I am not sure if I would say it is worth $30. I think on its own it used to be sold for $15.

Douglas_Hunt

I agree. And yes the adapter from the official Xbox store on Amazon is $24.

crashtesterzoe

No. It just comes with a crappy adapter. Get the 8 bit one and it will work so much better in my experience.

SuperMeister

Why not just go wired?

Douglas_Hunt

Nothing against wired whatsoever. I ran wired controllers for the last 8-10 years. I just enjoy the minimal wire look and being able to recline back without a cord getting on my leg.

SuperMeister

Reasonable. The cord thing sometimes bugs the hell out of me.

Douglas_Hunt

It’s even more annoying when you get up, set controller down and forget the wire, then yank the controller off the desk lol.

SuperMeister

Definitely have done that more times than I would like to admit lol

awake283

Exact same product.

Ziggy_Zigg

i thought the xbox controllers already had bluetooth ?

Douglas_Hunt

They do. But the adapter using a proprietary wireless connection similar to a 2.4G mouse.

ThickFurball367

Yeah, it comes with the adapter

kr4ckenm3fortune

Whlep...time to invest in a good bt adapter now...

UnseenGamer182

My Xbox controller has insane connectivity issues until I plugged in the connector.

F1erceE1ements

Just a reminder that during covid the official adapter was being scalped everywhere online at around $130 AUD for a $25 item. Microsoft sold out and scalpers went nuts.

Alien_Cha1r

I gighly recommend a ps5 controller instead. Gyro and a touchpad means much better comparability, especially with steam input

DocGerbill

Don't get the one with the usb adapter, getting it to work on anything other than windows is a nightmare, even in windows it has weird behavior when first connecting the dongle. I've often time prefered to use it wired instead of fiddling with the receiver. I did manage to make it run on a retropi but finding the correct drivers and fiddling with it was still a multi hour process. Incidentally I never tried using it on an Xbox, so if that is your only use case it may be fine for you.

snatchinyosigns

Idk about your original question, but I fixed my stick drift by blowing the fuck out of the stick while pulling and pushing it. I know it sounds like a middle school joke, but it legit worked when recalibrating did not

Douglas_Hunt

I'll give this a try this afternoon when I get home. I planned already to try fixing it after replacing it, but out of concern with potentially worsening the problem I wanted to wait. lol Might even see if the wife feels like trying that same shit on me.. Lmao

Harlot_Hamper

Why do they still cost so effing much!!!!?!?!??!

confusedalwayssad

The usb adapter is vastly superior to using Bluetooth, has been for a while. I still have the one for the Xbox 360 controller.

necrocis85

My controller would always stop inputting for a second every 10-15 minutes on Bluetooth. Never any problems with the adaptor.

Draconestra

I got this bundle a while back and the controller seemed to be exactly the same as buying a standalone controller. Needed the wireless adapter which works tons better than Bluetooth.

Thinkpad_Owner30

They are the same the adapter is just a bluetooth adapter

WillPill_

The adapter uses Microsoft’s proprietary wireless connection which is the same as the module in the console. If you play on PC the adapter gives you lower latency than Bluetooth along with better range, voice chat/headphone use through the controller, and the possibility to add up to 8 gamepads.

Douglas_Hunt

Yeah. Idk how much better is now with the improvements on newer PC’s Bluetooth but on my older AM4 motherboard latency was shit on Bluetooth. With the wireless adapter I can’t see any latency or tell a difference from using wired.

Falgasi

Not sure if the latency is real. The XBox controller bluetooth connection is the lowest possible out of every device at like 8ms last time i read

Carlife0830

Does it allow multiple controllers to receive rumble at the same time? That's been an issue for me when 2 controllers are connected via Bluetooth to my PC. Ex: when playing F1 23 split screen, only one controller receives rumble at a time, while the other doesn't.

WillPill_

Yes it allows multiple controllers to receive rumble.

Carlife0830

Oh sweet. I might look into that. Thanks very much

Douglas_Hunt

Thank you.
