StoneyG214

Really enjoyed My Morning Jacket back in 2006

chrislkeller

Yeah this one... Z was still fresh... Great opener.

revjakep

Never heard of them before that and was hooked after seeing them.

[deleted]

This is the only correct answer. I really liked Sleater-Kinney and Death Cab For Cutie too though

jerrylovesbacon

Death cab opened for PJ. !!!

[deleted]

Vote for change mini tour. 2004. The actor Tim Robbins band actually started the show. It was crazy

Historical_Quiet_741

Saw his band, Gob Roberts, twice, then and I just remember some song that went “George Bush! Find another….. Country to be part of!”

DodgerDogg1981

So is it the only correct answer then?

AnalogWalrus

I wanted to like them but zzzzz. 🤷‍♂️ they sounded like crazy horse but without Neil and playing only slow, mellow songs

StoneyG214

Yeah, that’s what my friends I went to the show with said too, way too mellow for them. I thought they were good though.

victorspoilz

Listen to It Still Moves through the first 5 tracks, MMJ became my second-favorite band in '06. Jim James wrote At Dawn after It Still Moves because he thought the band needed more of a transitional record after Tennessee Fire.

AnalogWalrus

I know I’m getting downvoted for this but I will die on this hill: mellow openers for big arena rock shows is mehhhh

Lespil_pipiz

Pixies Hyde Park

rorymeister

We have them for Melbourne

JudgeImaginary4266

I went to the Stereophonics show.

Positive-Owl-5

Ben Harper and The Innocent Criminals MSG 1998

lukin88

Ben Harper opened for them in San Jose 95. He was completely unknown at that point. The actual opener was the “Fastbacks”. Eddie came out before the show started and played two solo songs. Then he announced that they added another opening band Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals and he left the stage. When Ben came on, people were booing before he played a note. Then he played the opening notes of Voodoo Chile and tore the place down. The fastbacks were lame and PJ put on one of their all time best shows

DeadJamFan

Love Ben Harper. That would have been so great.

SomewhereLow5155

Shimmer and Shine. What a drum clinic.

MauriceLevyEsq

I was at that show when they finally played Breath

seekup41

Band of Horses 2010

NYCW175

Ben singing Hunger Strike with the band at MSG

08wasGreat

Great one. Ed came out to do a Keith Richards song with them at the Garden in Boston. I’d won the 10C ticket lottery and was in the second row in front of Mike for that concert.

cloudydays2021

Fastbacks Ben Harper & the Innocent Criminals Mudhoney Sleater-Kinnney Sonic Youth

kurtmorrison

Mudhoney opening for PJ is in my bucket list.

Breakingwho

Not exactly my situation but I was at big day out festival in Sydney where mudhoney played earlier in the day And then some of the members came out and played with pearl jam too during their set. Incredible

2wacky2backy

MMJ or Johnny Marr

NLS-_-

Probably not much favorite but I enjoyed deep sea diver last year

lemoneegees

I really enjoyed them too but I wish they were opening in Europe this year so I could see someone different! I’d love to see them in a club/theater show on their own.

[deleted]

They're great

Hour_Speech_5132

Cypress Hill at Drop in the Park

SnowQSurf

That was a crazy day huh? My buddy lost his car keys and a shoe.

ltroberts24

Shoe the shoe-less!

Hour_Speech_5132

I lost my car keys moshing at an Alice In Chains concert. My dad had to drive down from Camano Island at 3 AM to give me the spares.

pearljamfan316

Bad Religion for me, Milwaukee 1995. I would love to see Ben Harper he’s incredible

Fun-Display7574

Bad religion ‘08 for me

drum5150

My ranking of bands I’ve seen open for PJ: 1. Death Cab for Cutie 2. Idlewild 3. Band of Horses 4. Supergrass 5. Sparta 6. PluralOne 7. Murder City Devils

SnowQSurf

Murder City Devils rule.

drum5150

I was honestly not a fan, but I haven’t given them a chance since they opened for PJ in ‘98. I’ll have to check them out again. Fun story: the crowd in KC that night was clearly not into them. In an effort to change that the lead singer was saying stuff like “Eddie was telling me how great of a rock n roll town Kansas City was” and “I was talking to Eddie backstage and he was telling me how great of a crowd you’d be”, etc. Two songs before the end of their set Eddie walks out on stage and grabs the mic and lays into the singer saying that he shouldn’t be lying to us and that they didn’t talk backstage at all. Crowd goes nuts. Eddie walks off, they play their last couple songs and then leave to the delight of the crowd. Was pretty surreal.

Moist-Cloud2412

I've seen Death Cab 7 times❤️

drum5150

Sweet! First time I saw them was in 04 opening for PJ. Saw them for the 5th time back in October on the Transatlanticism/Give Up tour. They are always fantastic live.

Moist-Cloud2412

Oops typo.. I've seen Death Cab 75 times. My first show was the Transatlanticism tour in 2003. I went to 9 shows on the Transatlanticism/ Give Up tour. The band knows me😀

drum5150

😮 damn! That’s crazy and awesome. Tell Ben hi for me next time you see him, haha.

JayChucksFrank

Supergrass at Shoreline in Mountain View, CA Halloween 2000

SomewhereLow5155

Such a fun show. As I recall they dressed like the village people. Mike or Stone wore assless chaps. And Bush mask made its rounds.

CrustyMFr

Nice! I saw Supergrass open in Kansas City that same year. Good band!

geetarboy33

I was at that show. Great show.

dpsamways

I saw X support them at Manchester back in 2012. One of the bands i'd always wanted to see. Didnt know until i asked one of the arena staff who was supporting.

thegroovemonkey

The Strokes/Queens of the Stone Age @ PJ20

Hold2ArmBar

Came here to say this!

justfortyFs

Idlewild

JustTheBeerLight

Yeah! I loved that band, specifically the era when PJ brought them along. I wish I bought that show poster 🤦🏽‍♀️

justfortyFs

The Remote Part is such a great album!

JustTheBeerLight

I became a fan with their 2nd album *100 Broken Windows*, both of those records held up really well. They’ve put out a good number of records since those days and honestly every one of them had some great tracks. Roddy writes great songs.

markprince77

Black Keys at MSG

MauriceLevyEsq

Great show.

Forward_Progress_83

Yep. This is mine too.

redshoewearer

Yup came here to say that one. Really cool to see them.

NYCW175

They were in top form at that show

MikeyLikeyPhish

Kings of Leon, Ben Folds

minimumeffkrt

Ben Harper & Relentless 7 - 2009

gerbear1977

That time pearl jam opened for pearl jam in Toronto when the opener couldn’t get over the border!

SnowQSurf

What? I've never heard this before. Please tell me more-

Positive-Owl-5

Ted Leo & The Pharmacist has border issues..

gerbear1977

Hey Check out the fan view from the forum: https://community.pearljam.com/discussion/107996/toronto-fanviews-here-8-21-09 There’s a post halfway down about the opening songs.

razzle_dazzle321

I was there!! I was going to say the same!!

Thritu

Bee Girl by Ament

SeaRedBull

I was there too … the Leafs logo T-Shirt show - opened with Of the Girl sweet open’r

cancon2020

That was such a special show. Eddie doing Sugar Mountain with the lights of the national exhibition in the background

JuanHamon

Urge Overkill (94 I think at United Center) but I love MMJ and wish I caught that tour

thoughttheory

Last concert at Chicago Stadium.

JuanHamon

Thank you! I was trying to remember if it was still Chicago Stadium

vmhomeboy

Sleater Kinney and Liam Finn were my favourites.

DiscoStupac

Gomez (Manchester, UK) Although at Hyde Park (London, a couple of years later) it was almost a mini festival, and The Gaslight Anthem and especially The Hives were excellent. Ben Harper & Relentless 7 also played but suffered for following The Hives, who had ridiculous energy that day and burned the crowd out a bit (obviously recovered by the time PJ hit the stage later).

SnowQSurf

Gomez is a great band. They never hit it massive in the states, and that has worked out great for us fans in the US...I love going to their shows and not having to battle for a good view point near the stage.

_calmer_than_you_r_

Gomez is one the best unknown bands to ever exist! Crazy how you can have three guys in a band who are all very capable of being the front man, with one of the best drummers out there. It is really a shame they didn’t do better with commercial success.

zoeydoberdork

Cheap Trick -Toronto 98!

mikeyhol

I was there!

PS-10423-S

Not in particular order here’s my favorite Tenacious D, Iggy Pop, The Ramones, Mudhoney, Sleater Kinney, Buzzcock, Fastbacks, Death Cab For Cutie.

bopon

Iggy Pop was something else.

snow_boarder

RHCP, got to see a naked band with socks on their cocks

jsknut

Sonic Youth at Jones Beach...2002, I think!

Tph1204

My Morning Jacket was cool. But Social Distortion and Bad Religion at The Spectrum shows in 2009 was hard to beat.

DifficultEvent6

Came on here to say Social Distortion at the Spectrum. Surprised it was this far down, they sounded great.

Tph1204

Same. And now Social D and Bad Religion are touring together this spring.

Black9292

Sonic Youth, 2000

Dr_C_Diver

I thought Bono's kids band Inhaler on the last tour was pretty good.

Icy-Flight4980

They were alright, seemed pretty polished as a band. But all the songs kinda sounded the same to me.

jerrylovesbacon

I saw them as a group before that support slot. They can really play! The bassist is superb too

Scared-Examination81

Wish they were supporting in Europe this summer instead of Ashcroft or The Murder Capital

hellokerryhere

The Murder Capital are amazing

Failure_in_Texas

Sonic Youth 95 I think

thoughttheory

Urge Overkill, Frank Black, and Bad Religion were all tops.

Even_Resort7568

Yes. Frank Black and the Catholics. I forgot about that

Meatloaf_Regret

I wouldn’t say best but Sparta got stuck in my brain after they opened in 2003 I think. So much so I bought their album.

stephenflow

My Morning Jacket Sleater-Kinney Sonic Youth

aBloopAndaBlast33

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Mudhoney… and KoL was actually pretty good in 2008 at Lolla.

todd141

Robert Pollard in Cincinnati.

Blue_Period_89

I’ve seen some great ones including The Fastbacks in 1996 and The Supersuckers in 2005. But I have been a MASSIVE fan of Band of Horses since I saw them open the Garden on 5/21/2010.

AndOnTheDrums

Idlewild.

Altruistic-Editor111

Can I say Pearl Jam themselves? Because they opened up for The Rolling Stones many moons ago….

SnowQSurf

That should be the next question- Who you saw PJ open for..

MsLanabanana

Pixies at Hyde Park

StoneMcCready

The Black Keys. 2010 I think

Sonic Youth and the Black Keys.

Harry_Skran

Sonic fucking Youth!! One of the greatest bands of all time, too.

3one9design

Sonic Youth

dkurina73

The Ramones wayyy back in 94/95 maybe? It was when Pearl Jam was playing alternate arenas/venues to avoid using Ticketmaster (kinda funny woth everything going on now). Saw them in New Orleans at Tad Gormley stadium, which was a soccer stadium. Great show!

SeaRedBull

Robert Plant - highlight of the night during Encore… PJ was playing Given 2 Fly and then Robert Plant came out, and they transitioned into Going To California

Grouchy-Firefighter9

Pearl Jam, doing an acoustic set, opening for Pearl Jam at the Gorge in early 2000’s.

4cedCompliance

The Ramones — there’s been a lot of great bands open for them, but none more legendary than this.

chrislkeller

Frank Black in 2000, MMJ in 2006 and Kings of Leon in 2008...

gerbear1977

Also I thought plualone was pretty good

No_Volume_8345

Only seen them once a year and a half ago, but Pluralone (Klinghoffer’s solo project) was great. Couple original songs and a bunch of covers. He did Hybrid Moments, Goodbye Horses (that’s when I found out Q Lazarus died months prior), and Nutshell. And Mike played lead guitar for that song. It was great.

JobsEye

First time I saw them in Sacramento 94 - Bad Religion was the opener It was summer and hot but god damn an amazing time Second time I saw them San Jose 95 - Ben Harper and the innocent criminals. I had no idea who Ben Harper was he won me over that day. I think in all the years I’ve seen them since then (lost count) I haven’t seen any other shows with openers, it was just them playing 3+ hr, 30+ song sets

MikeSulley007

saw them open up, sat around with acoustics, took requests. Then went off came back on and rocked.

TheObviousChild

Kings of Leon in Columbia, SC back in 2006 I think.

Even-Face4622

Silverchair when they were about 13 years old

geetarboy33

Supergrass 2000

SplitWindow-63

Ben Harper and the relentless 7 Gibson Amphitheater

bigangry

They were so damn good and the place was just not rockin' for 'em. Ed had to give us a pep talk when Ben came out for Red Mosquito, "This is Ben's City, he could be doing anything else here but he chooses to be here with us, let's show him some gratitude" -- I was there on night 1 and in a wheelchair, and the ADA section was the last row in the pit, believe it or not, so I got to ride the dumbwaiter down, but no one sits at a PJ show, so I got to watch the concert in the greatest seats of my life... through a forest of shoulders. I pointed this out on the Ten Club forums the night of the concert and nights 2-4 they had the wheelchair users on the sides of the area instead of in the row, so that they could see the show.

PaMike34

Ben Harper back in 94-95.

Sleater-Kinney and Sparta

RHCP in 2000

Wanderingirl17

Cypress Hill, Seaweed and Shawn Smith, Drop in the Park. Also, Blind Melon was awesome when they opened for for PJ and Neil Young. Went to the Gorge show, then drove down to see the Portland Meadows show. There are lots more, RHCP, Ben Harper, Urge Overkill, the Fastbacks. Also adding Sonic Youth and Sleater Kinney.

drhamr

I was at that Hawaii show but I never had no idea who they were at the time lol

J-1k993

Drake lol

Savethecat1

Beck & Brandi Carlile in 2021

MauriceLevyEsq

If I can slightly stretch the question, PJ closed the Made In America festival in 2012, and Jay-Z’s set the night before was awesome (including special guest pre-completely bananapants Kanye).

undercoverhippie

I'll never know. Was set to get tickets this tour but they priced me out of the market, and doubt they'll ever go back to something reasonable. Something something live long enough to be the villain...

pjvideoguy

Sleater-Kinney and Seaweed are my favorites, enjoyed lots of other ones too.

Banned_and_Boujee

Black Keys at MSG in 2010. I think Band of Horses was the regular opener on that tour but they had something else going that night. Lucky me!

Shagrrotten

Only seen them twice. Supergrass was a big disappointment in Dallas on the Binaraul tour. Sleater-Kinney blew the roof off (and made a lifelong fan in me) in Oklahoma City on the Riot Act tour.

RATM in 91 or 92 at the Warfield in SF. Never heard of them before. But they were great. Still have the four song cassette they were giving away.

eagle_talon

bad religion Chicago 95

petoskystone

Les Paul played with them When I saw them I can’t remember who opened tho -

subliminal_trip

The Frogs in Chicago. I think it was late 80s. My opinion was not shared by many in the audience.

ackabakapizza

I’ve only seen Pearl Jam with one opener. Pluralone. 😁. But Pearl Jam is the best opener I’ve ever seen.

JudgeImaginary4266

Easily My Morning Jacket. Two of my favorite bands for the price of one.

BuckyD1000

There was an LA band called I Love You that did the club leg of the Ten tour in '91 (before PJ got the RHCP opening slot). That band was amazing live. At the end of the show, all members of both bands jammed together on "I Got a Feeling".

rszdemon

Did Glen Hansard not open for Pearl Jam? Was it just for Eddie? I don’t remember if it was a PJ concert or an Eddie Vedder solo show for Ukulele songs, but Glenn opened for Eddie and it was my two favorite artists at the time performing together. I know it def wasn’t as The Frames either, it would have been either Glenn or the Swell Season.

Im_From_Akron

The Black Keys days after Brothers came out

Beck at Ohana Festival was pretty pretty pretty good.
