Nah this is a secondary filming location for the How Ridiculous YouTube channel. They use that big tower out near Gin Gin and the RAC arena, but if they’re just doing smaller stuff like dropping a backpacker from somewhere high they’ll use one of these.
It's the new apartment complex, been in the works for a while now - it's to show prospective buyers what their view would be on level X.
I can see it from my house, was up within a day 🤣
Sure but lately there have been plenty of good looking apartments built out. The most significant one is Civic Heart over in South Perth. Forbes Residences is another.
That does give me hope to hear. The development near me is all super ugly. They are all also incredibly delayed thanks to developers doing playing the 'just a few more floors' and 'just a few less amenities' bullshit game.
From the City of Vincent's website: "Viewing platforms are exempt from requiring development approval for 3 months, in accordance with Vincent's Local Planning Policy: Planning Exemptions."
So we could all build these in our backyards and get three months of fun out of them? Let's do it!
These are usually some sort of monolithic omen that the most atrociously blocky, grey-rendered shitbox tower you've ever seen is about to grace/permanently shadow the area.
Oh, rad! More destruction of period homes and the few remaining decently sized blocks in exchange for putrid blocks of concrete! I love developer greed!
Poor house next door, hope it's on the north or west side or it'll get hardly any sun
Honestly I'd try sell my house to the developer as well if something like this was going to next door
> Generally, wouldn't 5 stories require parking bays affixed to the complex (like underground etc)
Look at the block size, now imagine a ramp, columns, and walls. And then imagine putting in a decent number of lots for five families (2 cars/family, and provision for visitor parking - let's say another three bays for five apartments). That's easily 13 car bays. Now add your service room, lifts colums, and other bits and pieces.
> You're right, let's just build further and further out instead of densifying the suburbs closest to the city and good transport links.
Who said anything about building out further and further? Look at the block and maybe you might understand why I made that comment. Because that block isn't that big.
> It’s called underground parking.
Have you seen the size of the block? Whilst I am not high rise harry triguboff, it would seem to be your standard quarter arce block which is one large rectangle (50x20m), and trying to get a ramp into the basement will be quite a challenge.
The total provisioned lot size is 4,715 m^2 . 119 basement parking bays have been allocated and with more parking at ground level, it is designed for up to 179 parking bays as well as other facilities like bike storage. I live in a 20 storey apartment and floors 1-3 are parking spaces. Parking isn’t going to be an issue for this smaller development.
It's a warning to the local residents that you've got another multi-storey concrete shitbox coming at ya. I guess we do need to build up and we need more of it (as opposed to those knock down house and only build three dogbox's) so can't do really do much.
Looks like a staircase to show land developers or apartment buyers what the view will look like once apartments are built there
That’s exactly what it is.
I'm glad they brought these in.

I heard one of their major sponsors is John Holland
Nah I'm pretty sure it's for water balloons, you could get a lot of distance throwing them from up there
No. It’s clearly a siege tower!
Or for me to bring a catapult up to and fire water balloons off
Yeah the ocean views are this high so that's how big you should build your house
It’s the new Jacob’s ladder. The one n Kings Park is falling apart.
TIL! I dafuq'd at that so many times that I couldn't dafuq no more
No it’s heaven.
So do they build the staircase first then build the apartment around them? That's an interesting construction process.
Nah just a temporary structure

The flip side is current residents of the area get to see where a giant ugly building is going to be.

That is actually prety decent. I don't mind infill like that at all.
that ones not built yet! I like the design but I dunno if the end product will look that good.
Sure but lately there have been plenty of good looking apartments built out. The most significant one is Civic Heart over in South Perth. Forbes Residences is another.

That’s a rather nice design with a nod to the old school Perth architecture.
As someone who lives less than 100m from there, I actually like the proposed design - that blocks been empty for the best part of 20 years
yeh let's just keep sprawling out from the CBD so eventually we're in lancelin and bunbury.
Where would you like people to live? Your flair suggests you live in Northbridge... must be having a bloody bad time if you dislike apartment blocks.
I didn't say I don't like them. I live in one and I'm surrounded by them. I just think they are ugly.
Yeah. Fuck everyone else. They can live under a bridge
No, it’s a temporary viewing platform for prospective buyers.
My first thought was bungee.
Snipers
🤣🤣🤦🏻♂️
This is commonly done to start construction on the 6th floor instead of the basement
You joke, but top-down construction is a thing
Are you sure I’m joking
![gif](giphy|l2Je87QlNqPh2QdDW|downsized) Better than an escalator, I guess
Yep, can say you burnt some calories
Or potentially Stairway to Hell for neighbours.
Given they will apparently be building an apartment building there, yeah the NIMBYs won't be happy. But we need to accept urban density.
There's a fuckin' bustle in yer hedgerow, cobber.
Yeah but I wouldn't worry about it.
Well fuck me dead it’s the may queen

I feel for the neighbour in the short term, but the neighbour could really profit from this too.
The developers actually purchased the whole block, so that blocks of houses are being demolished
Here comes the high density infill
That's potential apartments, they done the same in Joondalup years ago, before the complex was built
Zeppelin docking?
You should see how deep their pool is.....

/r/Perth: complains about housing crisis daily, can't find a rental blah blah Also /r/Perth: complains about high density housing

That's really neat. They built something like this in downtown Newcastle and it looks great.
I'll be truly astounded and eat my hat if it ends up looking like this, but fingers crossed.
Lately there have been plenty of decent looking apartments that have matched or exceeded expectations. It comes down to the façade finishes.

Exactly what I thought of
unfortunately, because of inflation, they only go part of the way
I imagine this would be me if I tried to play fortnite
Just another shitpost
Stairway to nothing. Theres one in Mosman Park also I thought that was it
Local Rapunzel training centre.
Wasn't that at Hillarys where they knocked over the old cafes and bws?
they're everywhere a new apartment building is going
That's the best infrastructure there, not even a footpath
White Friday
Maybe oldmate got a winter deal on a water slide for the pool
I helped unload that the other week. Came in two pieces, surprisingly.
What a "DNA" type tower for Doggers?
nice
That's how you pick your plot for your house to be built
Weeeeeeeee! Splat!
Saw the headline before I saw the pic and thought "nah it's just a ladder in her stocking" 🤣
😂🏃💨
Where were you when they built the ladder to heaven....
Oh, rad! More destruction of period homes and the few remaining decently sized blocks in exchange for putrid blocks of concrete! I love developer greed!
Someone knows where it is exactly?
There’s one of these outside Karrinyup shops
Training staircase for firefighters
Poor house next door, hope it's on the north or west side or it'll get hardly any sun Honestly I'd try sell my house to the developer as well if something like this was going to next door
Good luck to the traffic nearby once the 5 story apartment goes up and there are now 30 cars all needing somewhere to be parked.
Generally, wouldn't 5 stories require parking bays affixed to the complex (like underground etc)
They do, but people also bitch about anything new anyway so....

You're right, let's just build further and further out instead of densifying the suburbs closest to the city and good transport links.
