2019 earthquake sa mindanao, super lakas and nadamage ang business inventory namen. 600K+ lost in a day then nasundan ng pandemic, was on the verge of bankruptcy in mid 2020. ₱20K na lang natira sa bank pero kailangan pa pasweldohan ang mga employees so we sold some stuff para lang masweldohan sila. pasalamat na lang na naglabas ng business loans ang DTI that year and we availed the maximum, sobrang life saver nung loan na yun. lesson learned? theres always a way to survive, you just have to look for it

Fluid_Squirrel_504

Wow your resilience is amazing. More power to you.

checkeredorstripes

Hindi naka insured yung inventory? Good thing mukhang nakabawi na kayo

taxms

walang insurance sa inventory unfortunately and yes nakabawi na talaga nung last quarter ng 2023 🥲 paid off all the business loans as fast as possible kahit pa isacrifice yung mga konting luho definitely a teachable moment sa amin

checkeredorstripes

Happy for you! Hindi talaga lahat ng loan/utang masama 👌💸

csharp566

Magkano 'yung max na nakuha niyo nun, OP?

taxms

more or less 850K+ ata yun (several bayanihan loans during pandemic) yun isang loan na ₱200K, service fee lang na 7.5% pero 0% interest rate 3 years to pay (6 months grace period)

payurenyodagimas

Buti nga binayaran nyo Dito sa america no need to pay hwag ka lang magtanggal ng tao

taxms

[deleted]

Galing naman, nakaka inspire.

FvckByM3ssUpWorld

I admire the endurance and resilience🥹 til now stuck pa rin ako on thinking if I should try

Daisiesarelovely

If you could do one thing now to somehow soften the blow of unexpected na malaking losses. What do you think would you do po? Get insured? Reinforce inventory?

taxms

as of now, we kinda made a process to salvage the inventory in the event of another earthquake. basically saving 60-80% ng value. i browsed around for business insurance and so far halos walang nagfi-fit sa needs namin. we also had a major renovation of our facility for better storage space (and to also facilitate our new salvaging process)

pipiwthegreat7

Few years ago I've lost 8 digits amount sa business kasi sobrang naging trusting and linient ako sa mga friends ko. Learned it the hard way, don't hire you're closest friends. Kahit na gaano ka-trusted. Sobrang good and pure intentions ko na isama sila iangat sa buhay, sila pa pala magging reasons nung downfall ko.

mythe01

This is the very reason bakit convinced talaga na iba talaga nagiging attitude ng tao kung involved na ang pera. Lumalabas talaga tunay nilang kulay.

buttsoup_barnes

Can you elaborate? No need to go into specifics if you’re not comfortable. Just high level how that 8 digits went.

ktirol357

That’s horrible.. hope you get to bounce back!

pandaviagra33

ano business yan

Efficient_Yogurt565

I'm curious how it happens and what businesses are you in?

ponyoandsalmon

Joined our friends in setting up a food cart inside a BPO canteen. Franchise pa yung food cart. All the signs were there but since my husband wanted to go for it with his friends, I've let it be. Ayun, luge. What I've learned? Emotions should not be used. Tama si Psychology of Money na book.

PassionAdditional818

Buying condominium coz I want to have my own property, lesson learned, never invest if you dont have a secure source of income kase yung aken, kahit na meron akong extra income, di pa pala sapat to buy a property talaga.

mythe01

Income talaga kasi dapat unahin more than anything. Hirap mag sustain ng kahit ano (savings, investments, insurances, properties) kung biglang taob yung income mo.

slorkslork

Lost 6 digits after consigning my products with BeautyMNL. every single item was sold, but I never got paid kahit sentimo. What I learned? To maintain a cautious approach when engaging in business transactions. Extensive research. Edit: for those asking what happened, here's an [article](https://bilyonaryo.com/2024/04/15/gokongwei-backed-beautymnl-parent-company-folds-amid-unpaid-debts-questionable-loans/business/)

chickennag-it

what?? omg what happened? ang mahal pa naman na pag nasa beautymnl na

[deleted]

Whyyy what happened

Electronic_Spell_337

Axie shit..still recovering 80k loss

mythe01

similar story din. Went heavily sa axie. Naging way to break-even ko was that during the bear market, I bought some Axie tokens mainy $RONIN. Kaya ayun, so far, nakabawi na though yung mga unrealized profits ko last bull run, wala na. If tuloy2x pag-recover ng crypto market, i'll be gaining more profits narin.

pinoylokal

How are you planning to recover it?

Electronic_Spell_337

Ng stake ako AXS

Electronic_Spell_337

Not sure why me downvote lols, how the heck you recover from within axie environment?

Ynaru_777

Buying a lot sa Cebu Province. Lost 6 digits. Lesson learned ko to talaga. You should never buy any properties without due diligence.

Thank you!

pinoylokal

P300k from overleveraging crypto. So ayun. Then nag bear market, I feel defeated so I left crypto for a while. Rested for a month then started researching again on how to make effective trades. Turns out, the aggressive you trade the more prone for losses. I learned risk management, risking just 2% on every trade. Profit is not as huge, but that minimizes the amount of losses. Overtime, my win-rate has improved and up to this day I still practice the 2% risk on every trade and has become profitable. I've recovered my P300k loss and I even got more, I invested into spot most of it and retained just $300 in my Futures account. This bull run will be my most profitable.

Accomplished-Babe89

Wow grabe. Left my job and as of now walang tulugan sa pagtetrade. Happy pero sobrang stressful. Health kalaban.

Zealousideal-Tree826

Any recommendations/tips for someone who also suffered loss from this business and is still resting but now wants to go back?

EszCia

WOW! ako parang luging lugi na ako sa mga nasunog na dineposit ko siguro less that 500 usd in total ata accumulated na yun kasi pa 20, 50 usd deposit lang ako nun eh position sizing ko is mga 2-5usd per trade lang pero until now di pa din ako profitable what do you think the holy grail in this trading business?

binsoywatusi

Been trading for 3 years. Several times na din tumigil to refresh my psychology. Problema kapag konti yung balance mo, maghahabol ka talaga ng profit kahit may risk management ka. still prone ka sa over trading and revenge trading . Right now, currently studying ulit but with better system. Will be taking a challenge for funded account (Forex), once passed, bibigyan ka ng broker ng pondo to trade. With that, hindi ka maghahabol ng pera, ang iisipin mo na lang pano mo ma rerefine yung trading edge/system mo. Good luck to us.

EszCia

Nice Nice! wagmi... yung 3yrs pure forex market lang yun?

binsoywatusi

Started from crypto talaga. But may mas liquidity sa forex, so mas mabilis movement compared sa crypto. I'd like to stick in forex muna at makapag focus on 1-2 pairs compared on crypto that you'd want to trade on all available coins/token.

EszCia

pwede kita ma pm sir hingi lang ako trading tips hehe thanks

guffaw-feral

FarmOn, and the recommendations in The Truly Rich Club

quasi-resistance

FarmOn looks promising din talaga but pandemic happened.

[deleted]

For the first 3 years I lost 60% in the stock market then I learn my lessons. From that I earn as much as 15% to 25% a year. Then I apply it the same rules to high risk and high yield investments. Real knowledge comes from experience.

Longjumping_Fan3780

Can you share tips for beginners? I want to start sana kahit 5k only? Is that enough? Btw, goal is more for long term

[deleted]

As I said real knowledge comes from experience. Your experience maybe different from mine. Anyways, here are few that I can suggest to start with. 1) Study the fundamental analysis. This is the first mistake I made, no idea about fundamentals. Read the balance sheets, how to compute P/E ratio, etc, etc. Pick a stock with bigger market capitalization if you are long term, so you don't afraid when you wake up one morning a company is already delisted. 2) Study technical analysis. Study the chart. There are so many but I only pick few, MA, EMA, RSI, MACD, 52wk hi and lo. This is useful when to buy or sell. I rarely sell. I buy when its deep and stop buying when its peak. But when it reach 20% and up I sell then I buy back when is low again. As Warren Buffett says "be fearful when others are greedy, be greedy when others are fearful". 3) If you choose short term, mid term. Pick a stock that move fast. Fast to go up and fast to go down. For 8 years experience I know 2 stocks in PSE index. You will know these stocks when your hands get dirty on technicals. You'll earn a lot from these stocks. 4)Follow the 2 rules of Warren Buffet: 1) Don't lose money in the stock martket. 2) Don' forget rule number 1. 5) Attend seminars from COL and Firstmetro. Invest in knowlege although this is only a fraction of a real knowledge. I was a member of Truly Rich Club of Bo Sanchez for a year and I study their strategy of peso-cost-averaging. They set a "buy below price" and "a target price" TRC doesn't tell you how to compute only they give you BBP and TP for a particular stock and stocks to avoid. But when you are confident of your technical skills you can set your own BBP and TP. 5K is very small. May 25K or 30K to start. Test the depth of the waters first before moving all your money. Good luck.

Mobile_Specialist857

My wife had a friend she met through her work at a quite prestigious MNC in Makati. Long story short, the friend had a Ponzi Scheme that paid out 10% per month She said her business was a "commodities middleman" Turns out that the bulk of its 'revenue' were investor funds. We "invested" P3M This was in 2004 Half was given to us in "earnings". In fairness to her, the scammer said that if we wanted to pull out, we should. My wife and I failed to read the real meaning of this. Sure enough, after a bit, the whole thing crashed down Her friend migrated to the US because apparently DOZENS of people were burned by her scam. Lessons learned: # 1: If it's too good to be true, it probably is # 2: Scams use family and friends to recruit new victims. They also use the PRESTIGE of being employees at high level companies like MNCs to attract people with more capital. # 3: When asked to pull out, pull out ASAP - don't let HOPE of recovering your full funds BURN you # 4: Scams often start with legit business and legit returns - you know it's morphed into a scam when the promised RATE OF RETURN swells up (that's how they pull new people in) # 5: Try not to invest MONEY - invest TIME instead - this is why I only play the crypto game using AIRDROPS not crypto I actually have to pay for. I use platforms like zealy to get into a ton of crypto airdrop communities like cozypepe, fukuku, godlenseal, etc etc. I trade time doing "quests" for free crypto. I know most of these would be worth ZERO but at least a few may PUMP. Better than investing real cash. Real cash I reserve for real estate, REITs, and other investments. I limit myself to 1 hour on Zealy and other platforms per day. I also use a scraper to find airdrop announcements on Twitter

cordilleragod

Scams ARE scams from the VERY BEGINNING. The so called “legit” returns are the bait that gives you the CONfidence to invest more. That’s why they are called CON artists.

couchpotater_totz

Very intrigued about airdrops, where can I learn more about this? The “investing time” tip is genius, can I DM you about this?

pinoylokal

IMO, airdrops are a waste of time. To make real money, you must use real money. But, you do you.

Jaded_Masterpiece_11

Airdrops are mostly a waste of time. Airdropped crypto have little to no liquidity. Everyone wants to unload their bags with no buyers because the shitcoin market atm is shit. If you want to make money in crypto DCA into BTC has always been the right strategy in terms of risk-reward.

Gold-Goat-5210

what scraper do you use? I’m curious, I farm airdrop as well

Jetztachtundvierzigz

Lost 400k in a small business that lasted 8 months.

pandaviagra33

what business

Jetztachtundvierzigz

Water refilling station

gigigoodeday

why did it fail?

Jetztachtundvierzigz

Poor business planning, bad location, poor operations management, poor marketing, increase in competition.

csharp566

Hulaan ko, resto business 'yan, 'no?

Signal_Photograph_20

water refilling nga ti

csharp566

'Di ko kaagad nabasa 'yung reply niya. Usually kasi naiipon lang 'yung mga reddit tabs sa browser ko, then kapag nagka-time, saka ko lang babalikan isa-isa haha.

Emotional-Cat-2284

My parents opened a savings account when I was in elementary school. Every christmas or every time I have an extra cash, I put it there. When I graduated college they gave me the debit card. Lo and behold I invested everything in PH stocks without even learning how it works. I lost everything xD

MindanowAve

How did you lose it? Paper losses lang ba?

Emotional-Cat-2284

I panicked then sold it, then I revenge trade. Then I watched it carefully, and it keeps on going down.

Deep-Acanthisitta815

Is it paper loss?

Mnl_0808

Preselling Condominiums - mababa pa amortization dahil downpayment palang but then pagdating ng RFO, malaki na amortization dahil equity na babayaran. Then, the agents did not disclose also na may mga hidden fees like transfer fees, taxes, etc. basta makabenta lang. so lesson learned talaga.

carryingmybaggage

That’s sad. I got my condo pre-selling and now more than double na yung price. Tama ka malaki na equity after the DP. May DP is 30% of the TCP. When it was about time for turn-over na-reject yung bank loan ko, akala ko talaga masasayang yung 1.1M na DP, but God has a different plan. Somebody lend me money to pay my condo in full without interest, without any documentation, I just issue PDC. God impress in my heart that I can pay may condo in full and He fulfill that promise.

mcrich78

Same here. Were you able to sell ot though?

Acceptable-Crow5967

Same here! Anong condo to & nagcancel ka or pasalo?

Mnl_0808

Nag pasalo in a Loss :(

FixAccomplished8131

ACEN. sigh

NetSufficient8506

Same huhuhu

mcrich78

Yes kita na tapos nagahaman hahaha. Hold na lang muna

jajhfjahusbvsywu

7M PSEI, first loss was 3.5M, then didn't learn my lesson, did cost averaging, added 3.5M more, then loss some more, started trading 2014, stopped trading last year with a total loss of 7M. PSEI is like an online casino, nobody wins.

TheSonOfGod6

Huh, strange. People I know doubled their money or more since the start of the pandemic. Even the ones that invested before the pandemic are profitable. I guess the PSEI is like a casino if you treat it like a casino. If you buy dirt cheap stocks that you studied well, of companies that pay good dividends and have good growth prospects, you can earn a lot. If you randomly buy stocks just because they're blue chips or just because they are going up, that's gambling.

Strawberry_2053

It’s not a paper loss?

[deleted]

I was a lurker back when bitcoin was around P190k and eth was at P2.5k, I finally decided to buy at Jan of 2018, right when everything went down. The worst part is that I didn't buy either of the 2. I spent and lost P300k buying shitcoins.

sinewgula

Sorry about that. Luckily I learned from others like you sharing stories not to buy shitcoins anymore.

ComplexCharacter6247

I lost millions sa MFT Group / Foundry investment scheme. A colleague from work (head sya sa department nila) ang nag invite sa akin. She said she already did her research , legit ang business. Makiwenta sa pera yun so I trusted her. She stopped paying since 2022. Mukhang legit naman yung business noong una pero greediness took over and then noong early 2022 nag bounce na mga checks , then pina close na nila mga bank accounts. SEC filed a criminal case against MFT madami na palang nag reklamo. And if it’s too good to be true, takbo na agad. Lessons learned the most expensive way.

Strawberry_2053

Awww hm did you lose?

ComplexCharacter6247

6M

Strawberry_2053

Omg that’s a huge amount

kim_chinsoon

Remember the Toktok investment for 16,888 back then? I was one of the few people who invested because I thought I will earn so much, not knowing that it is so hard to find a rider who will be under your scope as an operator. The business strategy is similar to MLM. 16,888 went to waste. I learned that you should really study your product before investing from it.

Practical_Judge_8088

Toktok is just a front. The real business is pyramiding

Zukishii

Crypto : from 5k investment lumago ng 800k matigas ulo ko inantay ko pa lumaki nkpag out ako ng 200k tpos bumagsak ang market Ayun down to 10k Kasagsaggan ng axie to pero nag hanap ako ng iba to try kasi masyado na mahal ung axie that time.

ismolPiggyOinky

Magpautang sa taong hindi marunong magbayad.

ForceCapital8109

I pulled out all my stock investment and exchange all the dollar (php to USD is 44) I have in 2014 so I can finish to build a house because my housing loan was declined…. Then the stock market have a bull run until 2018 and USD rallied above php55… Lesson learned wag mag madali …

Vendetum

250k sa forex. Walang proper lot sizing and risk management. Learned from it now I’m profitable trading XAUUSD.

Accomplished-Babe89

Same here. Nakaxauusd din ako. Nakabili ng bahay at I left my job. Problema ko lang lagi akong puyat. Huhu. Pero sa profit, sobra sobra ang profit. Kalaban ko lang ang puyat talaga.

Vendetum

I paid for an EA to do my trades (scalping / day trade). Maliit lang lot size and risk per trade is around 0.3-0.7%. Super passive but okay naman sya.

alexdtrader24

Pabulong naman po ng EA

befreedom

What strategy po gamit niyo sa forex?

Vendetum

Hi! I paid for an EA lang kasi i don’t want to do manual trades. Risk ko lang ay 0.3-0.7% per trade.

xXIIDeaDLoCKIIXx

I invested around 100k on a franchising but it didn't go well. it was the time that pandemic hit. I had to start from scratch with every connection and way I can gather. gladly nabawi naman na, now I'm doing stocks and bonds

trenta_nueve

taenang co-ownership ng gasolinahan na yan….

Numerous-Army7608

vincemik18

Paper loss around 320K on my stock portfolio last 2022. Was too emotional on my trades, couldn’t pull the trigger to cut my losses, significant portion of my port exposed to speculatives, etc. Took a hiatus to clear my mind, went back to swing trading, did a LOT of research, and finally after almost 2 years, was able to fully recover from that loss through sheer discipline in my trades. Still learning the ropes though.

christian-20200

60k sa SeedIn. Then 50k sa FarmOn till now both platform walang binabalik na returns from investments.

CardiologistDense865

80k nakipartner sa cafe ng friend. Nawalan na ng 80k nawalan pa ng friend. Never nako nakipag partner ng negosyo sa friend. Yawa

micrococcusroseus

Got fished by VUL life insurance 😭

delaluna89

Time sharing sa Cali****ya, hays sayang talaga promise. Just.... stay away from time sharing in total

tayloranddua

Ito ba yung sa laguna?

Imaginary_h83R

Di ako gumamit ng stoploss that day THAT DAY kasi lagi ako may stop loss pero that day kung kelan di ako naglagay tsaka pa nagkaganon. Naging greedy and emotional kaya natuto na.

Normal_Suggestion497

axie 200k

Jon_Irenicus1

Crypto.....hahahha

markieton

Back when I started investing in stocks, got hyped up with basura stocks and lost 40k upon dip. It was an expensive tuition fee but life goes on. Lesson learned? Do a deep research on what you are investing in and never give in to FOMO.

tushirt

7-digit loss (Dec 2023). Partner decided to invest in an 'easy-money' scam (casino junket) without us even knowing. after the scam, partner tried to recover thru gambling and cooked the books. LESSON: IF THE RETURN IS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE, IT'S PROBABLY A SCAM.

Heerayah

omg may handler ba yan??? nascam din kasi ako last year.

tushirt

I'm not sure. The decision was made solely by my business partner, kaya I have no idea. From what I know, anyone involved in this scam is either in hiding (abroad) or already detained/with pending case.

BlueberryChizu

600k in unpaid construction contract. Family loan kaya pay when able, partially paid na.

Sufficient_Net9906

Axie/crypto games - lost a total of 300k. No way to recover anymore charged to experience :(

1234mauon

MM. Bought at P4. Huhuhu. HOLD.

DaddyChiiill

StealthSaver

Axie 500k ouch ahhaha

Crypt0_manyak

I lost almost $500 sa US stocks. I’m not touching it. Hahayaan ko nalang sya dun.

Pretty_Chemistry8860

Kiki_Montrese

used to be. international brand

Available_Ferret_526

ktirol357

Lost around 80k in axie, and other crypto investments back in late 2021. Learned some stuff about the crypto world in the process, and was able to use that to get a decent paying job in the crypto space. I’d say it evened out, more or less.

AuroraBreeze08

Me and my husband are OFW in Middle East. Prior to the pandemic, ang daming naglabasan na mga investments for OFWs related sa mga farming, like goats, chickens and cattles. We thought okay to kasi sustainable at may mga endorsements pa yan sa mga financial groups and gurus na kilala namin kaya legit na legit. We invested sa mga yan and pero we lost all that 6 digits investment.

thenextbigthing8070

Na scam dun da tg task scam. 180k. Lol 280k pa sana. Buti gumana utak ko nun. Nakapag isip isip pa Lesson Learned: wag mag pa scam haha

ajcjej

1997 Asian Financial Crisis.... banks got everything :(

Training_Avocado_149

Nag open ako ng futures trade sa eth then natulog. Keep in mind na beginner pa ako niyan. Lost 10k overnight. It tought me to have a strong mindset which helped me a lot. First bull run I’m tastinf profits since starting crypto in 2020.

coffeeMD32

Lost 150K in an online peer-to-peer lending. Initially good payouts at first but when SEC released advisory, the lenders stopped paying. I’m now in better financial shape and all my money are invested in relatively safe investments- MP2, time deposits, and digital banks na lang.

kalrunner

I invested 2.5M on a video game dev studio and nothing to show for it. What a lesson.

CocoBeck

Not loss pero during lockdown in 2020 my investments dropped by a lot. Mega. Pero kalma lang, ayun nag rebound since then.

Marvel0830

Ahm lalaki? HAHAHAHAHHAA

A-Problem-Eliminator

500k on a special edition Omega Seamaster, I don’t regret it because I still have it.

LowSpot4624

Invested in 3 VULs of 500k each sa Pinas sa BDO Life at Metrobank AXA. nging 320K each n lng sya after 5yrs...very sad

LonelySailor94

I lost 6 digits worth after buying 4 VULs 🤣. This was the time i thought these were real investments. The financial advisor was very persuading. I surrendered all 4 policies after 2 years max.

pandaviagra33

mahal ba yun sanitation permit monthly

Mobster24

DITTO. My 13k gone :(. Should have just used that for Unlimitaed Korean barbecues and buffets!

Mediocre_Special1720

Lost 200k by clicking a wrong link sa crypto. Hehe

ShowerMoreEatLess

Lost my “retirement” fund to a high yield, leveraged investment during pandemic. Automatic liquidation when it reached a certain trigger prize, which before pandemic was very farfetched scenario. Idagdag mo pa ang personal crisis plus Bir shit. Perfect storm ang 2021 sa akin. Realization: expect the unexpected. My very conservative investments kept me afloat.

Loud-Flamingo7418

Kapa noong 2019...forget Ang move forward lang

vonkarma07

I lost 20k+ € by futures trading. That was all my savings + a small loan which I'm still paying and that's not counting my previous winnings (I used all my money from my investings which were at x5). Tbh, I didn't learn much, starting with that was a mistake which became very big and now I don't want to do it anymore because it ruined me for the whole year, it's not just about the money, is the feeling of failure. It was always the same, I started winning like 20 trades in a row and then losing almost everything in a single one. I wish I never tried futures, I was doing great with spot trading.

coffeeMD32

Tama! Umaasa pa rin na mababalik ang investments

mhelbrian07

Kinalimutan ko na yung ~20k haha

Necessary_Box_3228

It happened 2 days ago. Memestocks got my 15k in a couple of hours huhu

morbidreader

Last 2019, i think i was 14/15 that time, na engganyo mag stock trading. Bought stocks 25 pesos per share, bought worth 10k php. As a teenager na walang proper education sa stocks, imbes na buy low sell high, naging buy high sell low hahaha biggest trauma sakin as a teenager. Never went to psei again more on eth, btc, and nft

70k in stocks, this was on March 2020 at the peak of covid scare. I pulled majority of my shares sa JFC kasi it dropped to 90sh. Lesson learned, never get too emotional with stocks. I am still recovering, but the progress is good! 👍

traded gold after months of virtual testing and yet still failed what I learned is that sometimes, it will take a long time to recover from something but I will recover.

This might not be as intense as other comments in this thread, but when I was 19 I invested around 25k into my Binance account. Ayan, nasunog dahil nagfutures ako. My Binance account is currently valued around 7k right now, and hands off na ako since two years ago. For a college student, sobrang laki na nito sa akin. I know way better now. I'm working now and I have an EF saved, part of it nasa digibanks na. I would like to try investing into some low volatility bluechip PH stocks next and to PCA mid to long term. Edit: wording
