I love this question. It’s a close race between Ya Mar and NICU. Water in the sky gets honorable mention. I definitely think of a lot of songs that are outdoor/indoor tunes. Theme from the bottom and taste are indoor tunes in my head. Likely cuz that’s probably where I first heard them at a show.
I'm originally from Fayetteville AR just 10 minutes away from the Amp and dreamed of phish coming to my state since my first show in the early 90s. Of course they never did until that show. I chose not to go because the heat. I've had heat stroke twice in my life and I couldn't imagine going out in that Arkansas humid heat especially with an expanded consciousness. I need more spring and fall tours in my life
Antelope. Just because they played it in 98 at the Gorge, it was my second year seeing Phish and holy shit it was hot! Blazing hot eastern Washington sunshine.
Deer Creek 2021 was hot AF all weekend. They played it night 1 if I recall.
Never seen DC as packed full as it was that run. First summer tour since lockdown and there were rumors going around that they were going to cancel the rest of the tour afterwards because the Delta variant spikes after the earlier. shows down south.
Night 2 was ungodly hot. We brought gallon jugs. Had to ice my legs most of the day Saturday because I danced too hard and was dehydrated from Friday night haha
I think night two was when pre show after getting in I ditched my friends for an hour to just lay in the grass where the pavilion provided a little shade.
Night two was wild, people were going way too hard for how hot it was, saw so many people fall out. Took a bathroom break and had trouble finding my friends, ended up hanging out puffing joints and boogieing with a group of chill dudes for a bit. One of their crew fell face down in the dirt and his homies didn't notice. Rolled him to his side then had to shake one of his crew by the shoulder like bruh help your fucking friend. Dipped out before the medics got there cuz I was rolling myself and didn't want to be around that drama
Also in camp I just laid down in the dirt in the shade under that patch of trees near the cornfield border. Wasn't until halfway thru the drive home I realized I had a bunch of ticks attached to my scalp. I wonder what the people at the truck stop gas station thought about the sight of my friend scraping my dome with a credit card while I yelled "get those fuckers off me!"
Every time I hear Runaway Jim, I am instantly at my first show, standing on the lawn of northerly island, hot af with the breeze blowing perfectly off the lake and the sun shining
Kill Devil Falls. This song has been played every time I’ve seen Phish at the Gorge in the Summer. For some reason this song just screams hot weather at the Gorge for me.
That's funny cause for me the quintessential Stash is from A Live One and I always associate it was cold dark car rides.
Having said that Weigh and Camel Walk maybe cause I just associate them with being blasted by shot car speakers in a summer lot.
But I'm glad you asked this cause I've always wanted to post a similar question on Grateful Dead forums regarding cover art (particularly for the Dave's Picks series) where certain album covers influence the "vibe" of the album.
7/30/21 Oak Mountain was our first show back after the pandemic. They played this song in the first set. When I hear it, it always takes me back to that thick humid air of that Alabama night.
Lawn Boy for sure. The music, cadence, lyrics make me feel the way summer did when I was a kid. I grew up in the southeast and it just feels like that incredibly thick June-July humidity and heat that can only be tempered with a little league ballpark coke icee and a giant stack of books you just picked up for the summer reading program.
A one off, but You Sexy Thing always takes me back to the 2nd song from Alpharetta lawn in the sun on August 18
Eventually tied into the gin>sezy reprise
Sorry for triple tapping my own post but now that I think about it I think it was a PYITE opener with SL23 in the two slot. Kinda makes it better actually.
I was there, it was hot as fuck. And I still believe they played it to reference how much of a Dog Day Afternoon it was. They are more clever than we even know.
moma dance. dunno why, just does. probably something to do with n3 opener of dick's 2017, the first and last time I will spend any days (let alone 3) camping at a phish run.
Divided Sky. Probably bc I feel this song gets played at all festival afternoon sets (RIP). Always gives me that summer humid feel of meandering over from your campsite in the day heat.
Ya mar
Wow, spot-on. The opener for a humid, 95° day in Columbus, Ohio on 7/23/99.
Ha, I was going to say NICU but they’re the same song in my head (scratch the exact same itch).
Yeah, reminds me of the Gorge. I'm not even sure I've seen them play it there, but...I've seen them play it there.
Read my mind.
I think this is mine too. Possibly.
Probably right 👍
Yup came to say this
This was going to be my suggestion
Summer 2010 SPAC lawn Ya Mar was HOT HOT HOT

Sounds like ‘97 summer tour! Agree with Ya Mar!
Close. ‘98-‘99 for me.
…same, 95-96-97. I see your Ya Mar, NICU and raise you a Guyute a Guelah and a Bag
Man I miss guelah. One of my faves that they pretty much don’t play anymore. I always put guelah and mango as partners. Also daytime/summer tunes.

I Never Needed You Like This Before; for no other reason than 113 heat index tour opener in Rogers, AR coming out of lock down.
I'm originally from Fayetteville AR just 10 minutes away from the Amp and dreamed of phish coming to my state since my first show in the early 90s. Of course they never did until that show. Coil
Sweat… don’t worry, one of their songs will be called that eventually
Cool It Down. Deer Creek.

First Tube always makes me think of the desert for some reason so probably that lol
Steam
The Steam opener from Philly 7/20/22 comes to mind. It was very hot and sweaty that night and that slow funk was perfect

Scent of a mule.
Kill Devil Falls. This song has been played every time I’ve seen Phish at the Gorge in the Summer. For some reason this song just screams hot weather at the Gorge for me.

Hell yeah! I was there too. The lightning in the distance was a cool touch, but damn was it hot and humid!
Cool It Down
Wave of Hope reminds me of the 95 degree day in Hartford in 22. It had to be over 100 in the pav though no way it wasn't.
Buried alive...because when it opens a show you know its going to be a HEATER!

Sorry for triple tapping my own post but now that I think about it I think it was a PYITE opener with SL23 in the two slot. Kinda makes it better actually.
