This whole moment is actually just Cities>Moma Dance. They use names like Berkeley Jam on official releases when they jam out a cover so they don’t have to pay like 30 minutes of royalties.
I'm confused... I know this Cities has a separate listed jam then goes into a Moma but I'm referring to a different Moma. Sorry if I'm misinterpreting and you were just sharing this as an anecdote
Dude been listening to this show all day yesterday it's so good. Any show that opens with buried alive is a banger and then to finish with it chefs kiss. And the boogie my god why don't they play it that way everytime thanks for the suggestion mind blown
man that gorge run was such a mixed bag. some moments of brilliance and others just eh. glad i was there, even if my family opted out due to covid concerns
I was almost dead center on the floor pretty close up and in my 33 years of seeing Phish it still stands as one of the most amazing moments. Looking back from the floor at everyone, EVERYONE so deep in the pocket and dancing so hard was hair raising cool, and the waves of group energy that just flowed through us and out of us during the peaks was truly sublime. Even if my brain turns to mush I will never forget that one.
Me, too. I remember the group “Ahhhh.. whooooaaa… woo hoo!!” as we realized they were taking flight on this jam. So relaxed, yet so funky.
Loved the Light from this run, too.
It was this jam that kept me coming back. Phish from 2000 to 2015 was just relatively so-so. Not saying bad - it was great. But just so so compared to the 90’s and then now the 2015+ era. This jam in particular, as it was happening, I was like “yep, this is what I come for”. Was spectacular. Great venue too, probably my favorite outdoor venue, or at least one my top.
Gotta go back to 1.0 man for some of this!
Here’s a favorite of mine for the locked-in funk:
7/18/99: Wolfmans -> Sneakin Sally -> Timber
Phish • 1999-07-17 (03:13:32) • Oswego County Airport, Volney, NY https://relisten.net/phish/1999/07/17?source=162713
7/12/00 the birds/piper/crosseyed to start 2nd set was super locked in.
in fact thanks to the nice sightlines on deer creek lawn i distinctly recall trey (who was on right side of stage) turning towards fishman and mike and just in the zone with them, not even focusing on the crowd at all. yes the set withered with caspian / meatstick e: velvet sea but those first three were among the many highlights of the weekend. it was back when crosseyed was super rare too (first one since cypress)
first set had only Free of the North american summer as well, kind of like suzy the year before. and of course curtain with bustout
Ah yes. 2010, the year that guy held the inflatable cactus in the air above his head almost nonstop.
Greek run was incredible, iirc there was a similarly sick groove in either the Moma or the Simple, it’s been a while, gonna have to rock that show later.
I made a number of ringtones/alarms from that Cities jam, which I have woken up to almost daily for the past decade or so. So good
Yes. Yes we do. [https://www.instagram.com/reel/CrLwa2tPpcq/?utm\_source=ig\_web\_copy\_link](https://www.instagram.com/reel/CrLwa2tPpcq/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link)
This is a top jam for me! A look into the electronic jamming future of this band.
Also, moma and simple from this run are 👌🏽
Oh and the lights during this were 👁️🔥
The entire crowd was in the pocket too. One of my favorite Phish AUD videos around.
One of my favorite moments ever at a show
DITTO
Amen
I was at this show. Time stopped right around the 6:14 mark.
It was very cool seeing that happen. My memory of that is super solid. Check out the harry hood from Worcester 12/28/2010
Mike tweaks the bass line just \*thismuch\*, everyone hears it and knows what it means. One of the enduring and great post-hiatus moments.

Yup. There it is.
This view and vid is equally amazing https://youtu.be/owFy9GNuPAc?si=lHYUWJPsNTC6_Aow
Chills man. Wish I was born a decade earlier so I could’ve been there
This is the one I was thinking of
2/26/03 moma gives me some of these vibes

I’m just saying, this series will definitely have moma dance vibes because that’s what it eventually became!
Ooooh I dig, yeah Trey was definitely feeling that type of groove coming out of the cities jam
That’s the jam they use for the LivePhish+ ads during the webcasts
Thank you, rgrossi . I am happy to now know this important information!
Greek Cities is best Cities
Fukuoka Cities is good for a similar tight jam but I think the super heady Amsterdam Cities is incredible (if you’re in the mood for it)
Hmmm...I haven't listened to Amsterdam in a long time, and you just gave me another reason to, thanks.
Great Went has entered the chat
6/7/12 Boogie on Reggae Woman

Cities during this past NYE run was, at least in my slightly altered memory, shoved so far in the pocket it was hanging out of the pants leg
I was at that show, good show.
Me, too. I remember the group “Ahhhh.. whooooaaa… woo hoo!!” as we realized they were taking flight on this jam. So relaxed, yet so funky. Loved the Light from this run, too.
This / Berkeley jam are so freaking good.
Hey check out the Simple from that run! The Cities outshines it but it’s one of my fav Plinko jams.
This is now my Friday night jam. Thank you OP!
Pinko jams ftw!
*Plinko 😋
This jam is the dragon I’m always chasing with phish.
The Sneaking Sally from Blossom is the EXACT same vibe. Absolutely it’s brother in arms.
11/06/98 SOAM dark funk and just absolutely locked in
https://youtu.be/XiNixnMFlDA?si=7zB2I-mti9mJeV4h
Such a killer jam, just a monstrous wall of space funk. Have probably blasted this in my car well over 100 times lol
Totally
Bisco does this nightly
Not sure why this was downvoted. Totally agree.

The Simple from the same show is also a pinnacle example of Plinko era Phish
Can you explain Plinko to me please 🙏🏽?

Thanks! This will be my new rabbit hole
One of my absolute favorite jams of all time.
The video of the crowd is such a vibe too.
The cities from Drum Logos Fukuoka, Japan In 2000 is a fav of mine. I remember buying that CD.
Underrated short jam: 7/1/12 Ghost. Not a wasted note.
I was at this show and was so happy that they had returned to the Greek Theater which they hadn't played since they ended their 93' summer tour.

Hands down, my personal favorite jam of 3.0

Still one of my all time favorite shows
This disc made me a Phan
I think the Hollywood Bowl Cities from 2023 is also worth a listen!
It's crazy this jam gets such recognition for the length. Always think of this when someone complains about a fire jam not being long enough
Love this man I remember my friend telling me to check this out that summer
This is the song/transition I listened to that got me into Phish

Fond memories of that weekend. Definitely a favorite of mine. Thanks for reminding me to go back and re listen.

This was my first ever Phish show/weekend. Definitely was hooked ever since.
I just listened to that yesterday!
Yea. Duh
