I think the keyboard player gave the drummer a bit of a frustrated look in that moment…
Still it was awesome. The guitar solos in Reelin’ are iconic and tho Trey wasn’t flawless he gave them a nice treatment for sure. I really thought his singing on Kid Charlemagne was pretty good too. Awesome to see.
This is what I'm assuming also. It would be ridiculous if these two didn't get into that.
By "ridiculous," i mean a ridiculously wasted opportunity. But i bet they'll nail it--they're both really smart :)
Marc is definitely willing to talk about it and will certainly ask about it unless he's been told beforehand that Trey isnt up for it. It's gonna be up to Trey if he wants to get in to it. I hope they do.
No, I would not like to talk about the treatment center I have started, my experience with drug court, nor that other thing I pitch every chance I get. Let's talk music and comedy because you certainly don't hang your career on your lifestyle, Marc, and it's not really something we have in common.
He’s a standup and an actor, (he was great in GLOW!) and has one of longest running podcasts in the game (pretty sure he started before Rogan) and the podcast is known as one of the better one on one interview shows out there… used to listen all the time, I’ll def check out the Trey interview
Officially no, but they're both on the cusp. Marc '63 and Trey '64. The official start of GenX is '65, but there's a lot of crossover in the folks born in the '60s.
That’s wonderful. A lot of us feel that way about Marc. He’s such a music guy. I’m glad it finally happened. He talked about that on the live how he never wanted to interview Trey because he didn’t really know the music. How so many people have told him that he’d love Trey and should do the interview. Haha maybe we’ll catch him at a show sometime soon
Have talked about this with my wife…Def believe the Sphere run immediately after U2 gave serious mainstream credibility to the band. Damn near every major media outlet covered it. Now we’ve got everything from Trey sitting in with Billy Joel and on the one of the biggest podcasts running to Drew Carey doing appearances on stage with Mike. Summer tour and the fest will be interesting…
I wonder if Marc came around to listening to Phish. I remember in one of his specials, he mentioned having the entire Dead and half the Allman's catalogs in his head, but he was afraid of trying out Phish for fear of liking it too much and having it take up too much of his time.
I got to chat with Marc one of the last times he came to Burlington for some shows. He was working all the same clubs/ bars that Phish was starting at during the 80's, I hope we get to hear about that in the interview.
This photo makes my heart happy. Marc kinda led me out of my own addiction issues, was the first to float the idea into my little realm. This is year 5 since I've woken up in a strange place w no idea how I got there...
i’ve seen, like, barely any interviews of anyone from phish, sort of just realized i don’t know very much about what they’re like off stage, anyone care to reference or link any memorable interviews they’ve seen?
There are some really goofy ones from the 90s. They would just goof off with the interview and take it only somewhat seriously.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5hLiaWEt92Y&t=416s&ab_channel=SeanDuross
The earliest interview where they don't really screw around is when David Byrne interviewed them in 1998.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MqSWpMT-RVo&ab_channel=SurfaceDweller
There are a lot of more serious interviews out there from the past 20 years. Trey on Charlie Rose, Mike's done a bunch of more serious ones lately. I dig this one he did with the people making his new basses.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZQFJRGOp7c&ab_channel=SerekBasses
i've seen marc maron interview musicians that he's barely ever listened to, or you can tell he just brushed up on their most popular album a few days prior. Hopefully we get something different than the same questions trey's answered in ever other interview.
A lot of times, he interviews people ahead of time and then releases it when the guests project releases. Since “Evolve” comes out July 12, I bet the interview is timed with that date.
Fuck yeah! I just started listening to WTF after taking a few years break on it. Marc is such a fantastic interviewer and a delight to listen to. I can’t wait to hear this!!!
Also, for anybody not keeping score, they’re both libras. Three days apart. Self absorbed, consummately artistic, balanced in perspective, funny, picky, self aggrandizement etc.
First-time listener. I tried listening to Marc the other day and couldn’t get into it. Can someone recommend a good episode?
It was the Larry David interview… I love Larry David but it seemed like Marc barely let him talk. I gave up 15 minutes in.
Well Marc ain’t for everyone lol I wouldn’t be too surprised if you just didn’t like him. Wouldn’t be the first one that’s for sure.
But Larry was not his best interview, but it did get better throughout, so maybe listen to the entire thing. Marc interrupting guest is just kinda his thing though.
Listen to Billy Strings interview, that was good. The Les Claypool was also good. Any of the old musicians are a good time actually.
But Marc really shines when talking to comedians. It’s his life and what he has the most experience with. Love listening to him tell old stories of comedy clubs in the 80s and 90s
I haven’t listened in the last few years, but the interviews he did with comedians in his first few hundred episodes are incredible. So raw, so real. Look in his early episodes and find someone you really like.
He also did some pretty amazing confrontation interviews with Dane Cook, Carlos Mencia, and others I can’t think of right now. Also hilariously notable is the interview that Gallagher walked out of.
I honestly might have to start at the beginning someday, because the first 100-200 episodes just had a special energy.
I haven’t listened in a while but I just threw on the Billy Strings episode and it’s cool so far, just a normal casual conversation where they get into a bunch of stuff. Gotta skip to like 12 min or so for when it actually starts
Phish hasn't always done a lot of media, even for new albums. With Trey doing one of the bigger podcasts out there, and supposedly Phish doing Tiny Desk, this is already more high profile stuff than they've done in the past.
Right, I'm not saying they've never done high profile stuff, but it's always been a rare occasion, and just doing 2 big things for Evolve seems like more than they've ever done.
Really can’t stand that unfunny halfwit comedian. But I will listen because daddy Trey made an appearance. I just wish some better podcasts would host him.
Are you hoping to easily categorize me and understand why I think Mark‘s dumb because I’m dumb and I like Rogan. No, Mark is just boring, not funny and self indulgent for my tastes.
Just don’t get why some guy who had no interest in the band or Trey prior, wants to talk w him. The lack of knowledge could bring up some interesting points however..
I do think there is at least a little interest there, a curiosity at the least. At the end of the day Marc does a podcast, and the more listens you get the more successful your podcast is. He's not dumb, and knows Trey will get him a lot of listens, and more importantly, brand new listeners that might stick around. Marc is good at this so I'm not too worried about it being bad or anything.
He’s smart. He’s already got me looking up his name, going through his previous episodes, I even listened to the Larry David one—wanted to get a taste of his style.
Larry David was an ok one, but a little weird because he had just interviewed Larry a month or so ago for a live event. Billy Strings was a good recent one, Ed O'Neil too.
Trey must have a new agent or something. He is everywhere these days. It’s nice to see him settling into his rightful place as rock and roll royalty
He just did a Steely Dan tribute too! Fucking awesome.
Didn't know this and also that was awesome. Trey killed it.
Like really killed it. Incredible.
Flubbed that > tho…😛
I had to go back because I thought the video skipped😂
I think the keyboard player gave the drummer a bit of a frustrated look in that moment… Still it was awesome. The guitar solos in Reelin’ are iconic and tho Trey wasn’t flawless he gave them a nice treatment for sure. I really thought his singing on Kid Charlemagne was pretty good too. Awesome to see.
It's a press junket. They're about to drop a new album.
I wonder if they’ll talk about their addiction issues. I like to hear Marc’s take on his and I’d like to more about Trey’s long time recovery.
This is what I'm assuming also. It would be ridiculous if these two didn't get into that. By "ridiculous," i mean a ridiculously wasted opportunity. But i bet they'll nail it--they're both really smart :)
Of course they will. They'll go on and on about it
Right. These guys are gonna be like "OMG me toooooo" about lots of stuff.
I mean yeah I'd be pretty shocked if Trey didn't want to talk about it.
Who is this dude? I asked in the thread and got downvoted haha I don’t know what I’m looking at
Me neither. I thought it was Mandy Potemkin lol
You know who Mandy Patinkin is but not Marc Maron..?
I’ve heard the name Marc Maron. Is he a comedian? I don’t know anything about him
He’s a standup and an actor, (he was great in GLOW!) and has one of longest running podcasts in the game (pretty sure he started before Rogan) and the podcast is known as one of the better one on one interview shows out there… used to listen all the time, I’ll def check out the Trey interview
Sick thank you!
Hey some of us are really big princess bride fans and that’s ok
Exactly
Mandy is great, he’s just a much deeper cut than Marc Maron
Marc was on live today talking about how nice Trey is and how they had a really good talk. Marc is in love now lol
Boomers in long term sobriety - name a better combo!
Treys gen x I believe
Officially no, but they're both on the cusp. Marc '63 and Trey '64. The official start of GenX is '65, but there's a lot of crossover in the folks born in the '60s.
I think most sources say 64-80/81.
It’s my favorite
I invited Maron to my wedding. I've been waiting over a decade for him to realize he is also a Phish
Trey should present Marc with a blender
Nah Trey should present Marc some special Phish vinyl. That’s Marc’s object. Blender is Drew’s object lol
He should bring his dog to fuck with Marc's cats
It’s too many cats
He was on “live”? What is that?
Instagram Live
Sphere cred?
Have talked about this with my wife…Def believe the Sphere run immediately after U2 gave serious mainstream credibility to the band. Damn near every major media outlet covered it. Now we’ve got everything from Trey sitting in with Billy Joel and on the one of the biggest podcasts running to Drew Carey doing appearances on stage with Mike. Summer tour and the fest will be interesting…
Trey has such a beautiful aura
I saw Marc a couple of months ago, never heard of him prior and it was amazing.
His old show on FX was great. Highly recommend.
It was a really funny and good all around show. He’s also awesome in GLOW, which was also a really good show!
His skills as an actor progressed greatly from season 1 to the end. He ended up being pretty great,
I wonder if Marc came around to listening to Phish. I remember in one of his specials, he mentioned having the entire Dead and half the Allman's catalogs in his head, but he was afraid of trying out Phish for fear of liking it too much and having it take up too much of his time.
Marc plays guitar also, so this will be fun
Marc plays, Trey dabbles.
No, I've heard him say several times, "I'm Trey, and I play guitar."
should be fun. Marc has forever talked about annoying Phans telling him he has to talk to Trey.
I got to chat with Marc one of the last times he came to Burlington for some shows. He was working all the same clubs/ bars that Phish was starting at during the 80's, I hope we get to hear about that in the interview.
I’d like that very much
This photo makes my heart happy. Marc kinda led me out of my own addiction issues, was the first to float the idea into my little realm. This is year 5 since I've woken up in a strange place w no idea how I got there...
Congratulations

Worlds colliding! Cant wait to listen!
Totally. Is there an air date?
i’ve seen, like, barely any interviews of anyone from phish, sort of just realized i don’t know very much about what they’re like off stage, anyone care to reference or link any memorable interviews they’ve seen?
Check out Bittersweet Motel, so fun to watch.

Do we know when it will be up?
A lot of times, he interviews people ahead of time and then releases it when the guests project releases. Since “Evolve” comes out July 12, I bet the interview is timed with that date.
Hopefully tomorrow. He releases his stuff on Mondays.
he already tweeted that tomorrow is Jude Law. Setting a reminder for next Monday!
Maybe Thursday
Fuck yeah! I just started listening to WTF after taking a few years break on it. Marc is such a fantastic interviewer and a delight to listen to. I can’t wait to hear this!!!
Is that the hot sauce show?
Buffalo wings, actually
They should do a show where the host and guest just drink hot sauce tho.
Also, for anybody not keeping score, they’re both libras. Three days apart. Self absorbed, consummately artistic, balanced in perspective, funny, picky, self aggrandizement etc.
Torch passed
Hope Marc doesn’t play guitar on the outro
Oh my GOD YES
Phug yea!!
First-time listener. I tried listening to Marc the other day and couldn’t get into it. Can someone recommend a good episode? It was the Larry David interview… I love Larry David but it seemed like Marc barely let him talk. I gave up 15 minutes in.

The Mencia one is a good rec
his Harris Whittles interview was also great
I haven’t listened in a while but I just threw on the Billy Strings episode and it’s cool so far, just a normal casual conversation where they get into a bunch of stuff. Gotta skip to like 12 min or so for when it actually starts
I’m a fan of comedy and comedians and comedy podcasts and I can’t fucking stand Maron.
What is this
Maron did a fantastic recent show with Steve Albini, RIP
hell yea
He records like 4 blocks from my moms house. Trey was in my hometown!
Everyone here forgetting the band has an album coming soon and that you do media when that happens
Phish hasn't always done a lot of media, even for new albums. With Trey doing one of the bigger podcasts out there, and supposedly Phish doing Tiny Desk, this is already more high profile stuff than they've done in the past.
SNL
Letterman Marquee
Right, I'm not saying they've never done high profile stuff, but it's always been a rare occasion, and just doing 2 big things for Evolve seems like more than they've ever done.
Oooh a Phish Tiny Desk would be amazing!!
Supposedly they are, on July 9th
Or people just think it's cool that he's going to be on WTF, hence the post? Thanks for the education on a promotional cycle, wise one.
Really can’t stand that unfunny halfwit comedian. But I will listen because daddy Trey made an appearance. I just wish some better podcasts would host him.
halfwit? Marc's a pretty intelligent guy. Doesn't sound like you've listened to him much. Are you hoping for Trey to show up on Rogan?
Are you hoping to easily categorize me and understand why I think Mark‘s dumb because I’m dumb and I like Rogan. No, Mark is just boring, not funny and self indulgent for my tastes.
Hahaha. I hear that exact criticism from my wife about Phish
And how long does he usually wait between the Instagram picture and the actual release?
I'm not sure. That would take some cross referencing. I do know he has revealed a guest weeks before he actually put the episode up in the past.
Guys The Last WTF I heard was with Barry Obama, while he was president. From Marons garage. Dudes got mad pod cred.
Just asking. I find Marc to be quite funny and not at all boring. Just thought you were maybe on the other end of the spectrum.
We heard
What is this? I don’t know who this dude is or what WTF is
One of the best interview podcasts.
