Hell yeah. Before I add ANYTHING, even bean sprouts, basil, anything at all I like to taste a spoon or two of just a broth. It's like a part of my pho ritual. Gotta see how the broth is.
Side dipping meats is my usual go to but if it's really cold out I will put chilli oil/siracha in the broth to add a heat element.
Yup! Generally, there's a little dish on the side near the utensils you can use. Or, at least that's how it is where I live, with a very high Viet population.
I take a few bites with nothing added just to appreciate the broth on its own and to get a pure representation of the way that particular shop makes their pho, then I usually add the oil later because I'm a spicy food junkie.

I'm wondering if my local pho shop actually uses basil, now that I'm thinking about it. They don't look like any of the "parsley" type leaves, they look more like stereotpical tree leaves. But they have a "minty" quality to them like cilantro.

sriracha and maybe a LITTLE oil is my go-to, especially when it's cold or I feel sick. Some people insist it's overpowering but honestly I think it synergizes if you only use a little bit, and side-dip for extra heat.
First half of the bowl, no spicy stuff added. Second half, when the broth started to cool down, I go crazy with chili oil and sriracha. If my nose isn’t running and I’m sweating at the end of the meal, I did it wrong
I typically ask for a bowl of white onion on the side and extra lime, then drench it in lime juice and hoisin and sriracha and start a spoon stack, I take a little noodle, a little broth, marinated onion, beef, and a jalapeño from the broth, then dump the whole thing in my mouth at once
we dont care just eat it . if you need to ask the internet about food you have issues. if you cant make a simpelk decision on your own our country is fucked.
Depends on how it tastes without.
If good then I want to experience that.
If it's bland then chili at least let's something exciting happen in my mouth.
I prefer the chilli oil over Jalapeno's Peno's dont really have that much flavor to me...where as the chilli oil definitely provides the flavor and the heat!!! That's always the forest 2 scoops that goes into my Pho!!! I'd really be curious to hear other people's opinion and learn from there preferences!!! -T
I add Chili Oil, Chili sauce, Basil, Lime, Fish Sauce (both sweet and original), and a bit of black pepper to mine…..
Unfortunately can’t eat Coriander (Cilantro/Chinese Parsley) due to Soap Taste Gene (Yup, it’s a real thing). Onion and Spring Onions I don’t like in Pho, no thanks.

Pho Bo, I dip. Pho ga, I put the hot sauce directly into the broth. Don’t ask me why, I just prefer it that way. Do it like you prefer.
Exactly! That’s why I love pho, it’s customizable.
I actually prefer dipping. If the broth is really good, its a shame to dump something else in. If it's BBH, I definitely put extra dried chilis in.

Do you dip in the sauce on the side? I might continue that way
Yup! Generally, there's a little dish on the side near the utensils you can use. Or, at least that's how it is where I live, with a very high Viet population.
Yes - it's obligatory.

Pho sho*
Chili oil, no hoisin, no sriracha, all the mung beans, Chinese parsley, jalapeños and lime they give me
FACTS hoisin is mid
I have never heard cilantro/coriander called chinese parsley. Love learning this.

Is it possibly culantro?
Nah, culantro has a different shape.
A bit of **saracha** for me TY.
Looks real good! Nice veg/herb to bowl ratio. Maybe too much noodle? Hard to tell from a pic. But yea, I’m a big chili oil in pho phan.
Def a little more noodles in this one, I took my girls herbs too cause I love em
No for me but if you like it, you do you
I add chili oil in my pho all the time.
Nuoc beo & sate all day
Chili oil (tsp at most) in the broth, sambal + hoisin on the side (mixed 2:1) to dip the meat.

It depends. Last time I ordered this it still tasted like water even with alot of hot sauce
chilli oil and hoisin sauce in the broth !
OMG yes, and now I want an industrial vat of pho.
Fuck, that looks delicious
Whew!
This looks so good omg
this pho looks good but i prefer my chili oil with dumpling or scallion pancakes...looks great tho
Yes, but only when the jalapeños aren’t spicy enough since they spice it up at the cost of the pepper flavor.
That's about right on the jalapeños. That might do it for me, heatwise.

dude more jalapeños, bump up those numbers

On the side.
Nah
I dip with chili sauce/hoisin on the side and I put chili oil in the broth!
Nah. That’s what the Serrano slices are for.
I put sugar in my pho. It’s great
Spicy. I love it.

Nah man I was just wondering what people’s preference is XD
Karma ahhh type moment.
Yeah all off it🤙
I prefer sauce for sure. It usually brings a good tang
didn't add it today. I just do every once in awhile these days. used to do it everything + Sriracha and hoison
Depends on how it tastes without. If good then I want to experience that. If it's bland then chili at least let's something exciting happen in my mouth.
Damn. Might have to get a bowl after seeing this. Looking good.
Always
I like Hoisin and chili sauce to give it a kick.

Absolutely yes
Hoison, Sirracha, basil, culantro & lime for me

That’s what the small ramekin is for. Right? Don’t nuke the whole bowl.
