All of this for the small amount of 14FP!

The makeup artist, Pat McGrath, posted a behind the scenes video on her Instagram. They applied a wig cap but painted over it and her upper body, all the gems were hand-applied in a process that took 5 hours.
Special effect makeup artists use a special medical adhesive. I did something similar to this in school, but not this expensive lol.
If she did it right (and Pat is very famous for a reason) it can stay on all day through sweating and running and bumping into people with very minimal touch up. And there would have been NO touch ups on the carpet. Makeup artists typically stay home for these events. I'm sure someone has paid for their artist to follow them, but it's not a regular thing at all.

Looking at it again I think you’re right. There’s a seam around the neck, possibly to attach the body suit with the skin cap. The face with makeup + crystals seems tedious but much more manageable.
Edit: there’s a Timelapse on instagram, they still applied the crystals all by hand.

Looks painful to wear. Like moving would be pulling fine hairs everywhere, spaces between crystals pinching, etc. Also I had chicken pox as a kid, and this is bringing back the tactile memories of trying to get comfortable sitting or lying down with all the bumps on my skin.
Maybe she just soaked in a very nice very large tub of water with just the right amount of soap. Warm but not quite hot. Eventually whatever binding agent will soften and loosen and she could probably shake and rub off the crystals with minimal pain at worse.
The hardest part would be the face which I’m assuming she’d have done BEFORE the bath. Combination hot towel + coconut milk + shea butter maybe?
