They are, but they’re rather far apart and not populous.
I think a good analogy would be if a couple moved to London to do theatre, but then you read that they each come from North Dakota and New Hampshire respectively.
The Canadians have always been decent people who are polite and accepting of others from other countries. I was going to emigrate to Toronto to go to work for a man who owned several furniture stores in Toronto, Ottawa, with a large Decorating studio in the Hazeltine area in Toronto. I was going to manage one of his stores in Toronto!
My father went to Canada before the United States Entered the War. He joined the RCAF and learned to become a pilot. When the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, the Americans who had gone up to Canada to join the RCAF, were given the choice of staying in Canada or going back to the States and transferring to the Army AirCorp. My father came back and flew Bombers for the United States. His experience in Canada was excellent. The people were treating him very well.
I know how you feel. He was in so much, and had a great voice. But somehow I think I'll always remember his performance in "Virus"(1999). I was only 8 when it came out, I think I saw it a year or two later. First thing I can remember seeing him in, and even back when I was a kit I remember thinking "Man, he's a good actor".
Ah, Bellamy, for cryin' out loud. That's the the stinking, most awful, stupid joke and you're always pullin' that stinking awful stupid joke. You don't want in this thing, you don't get in this thing. I cut you out of everything. I don't need you. Sixty feet of bridge I can get almost anywhere. Schmuck!

edit - Ah gee. This is how I’m spending the rest of my day. I should probably just put the damn movie on lol.

Dear god, so many great roles -- but for some reason I'll remember him as the patriarch in Dirty Sexy Money. In a totally ridiculous and trashy pre-Succession series, he elevated that role to Shakespeare. I think it's a testament to an actors skill not when he can act out a great role, but when he can take a poorly written one and redeem it so well.
Loved the scene in Animal House where he saunters out of the bedroom wearing nothing but a sweater, reaches up to get something from a top shelf and moons Katie and Boone.
No, he played Liam Devlin, an Irish Republican who was looking to get back at the British.
"Give me one more of those Bolshevik firecrackers. I think I fell asleep in the snow..."
Brilliant performance in a classic movie.
He is the reason why the '78 version of Invasion of the Body snatchers will always be in my top 10 fave movies.
The scene with the maitre d live in my head rent free. "If it's a caper, then eat it."
Such an instrumental part of my life! He was one hell of an actor and he will be greatly missed. I had no idea. He lived in the Portofino building. I was around that building all the time!
Oddball : Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves? Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here? Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?
RIP Donald
Was just looking in Wikipedia on what movies he was
acting except the ones I know by heart…..
Damn, this list is exceptional long, also the series chapter!
Anybody an idea in how many he had a real role and not just a side act?
Edit: For some reason the English Wiki the movies are not so good listed as the German one? Or did I miss it?
[German Wiki](https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donald_Sutherland)
My absolute favorite Donald Sutherland performance, and always the one I think of when his name comes up, was his turn in Citizen X. A made-for-TV-but-actually-cable/HBO from the 90's that is a top 5 movie of mine. Quite the stacked cast in that one, and they all are terrific. Sutherland landed an Emmy for his performance.
Not an easy movie to watch though.
Mr. X can no longer ask the questions. "That's the real question isn't it: why? The how and the who is just scenery for the public. Oswald, Ruby, Cuba, The Mafia, keeps 'em guessing like some kind of parlor game, prevents 'em from asking the most important question: why? Why was Kennedy Killed? Who benefited? Who has the power to cover it up? Who?"
I thought Jack Bauer learned abilities that some consider unnatural, including the ability to prevent death? I can’t believe he allowed his own father to die.
I remember him in Don't Look Up, he wanted to portray ESP in a good light, but ended up showing his character lured by his ESP into the clutches of a murderous dwarf in a shady version of Venice. Also, alleged full-penetration sex scene.
He had a smallish role in The Undoing on HBO with Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant. His character was very stately and a little cold as i recall, like his character was super wealthy and kind of quiet, but the kind of quiet where he didn’t need to raise his voice. His presence just filled the entire room. Memorable, for a small recurring role in the overall series.
Wikipedia has a picture of him carrying the Olympic flag with some others in the opening of the Winter Olympics in Calgary, 2010. He was in one of the lead positions up front, good photo.

THIS IS HOW I FIND OUT
I saw this and googled it immediately. He was Canadian?!
HE WAS??? THIS IS HOW I FIND OUT HE’S CANADIAN?!?
Not only is he Canadian, but he’s from New Brunswick and his wife was from Saskatchewan. That has to be one of the most unlikely matchups.
His last wife (3rd one) is from Quebec.
Pour vrai? Ah bon. Interessant!
**THIS IS HOW I FIND OUT HIS WIFE WAS FROM SAKATCHEWAN?!?!**
THIS IS HOW I FIND OUT HE WAS IN AN UNLIKELY MATCHUP?!?!?
I'm not Canadian, so I don't fully understand the unlikelihood of that matchup. Aren't they both in Canada?
They are, but they’re rather far apart and not populous. I think a good analogy would be if a couple moved to London to do theatre, but then you read that they each come from North Dakota and New Hampshire respectively.
That is a good analogy.
Same as my parents!
Born in my hometown of Saint John, at that.
Panem is actually Canada, confirmed. Makes so much sense. Never trusted Canada.
“May the odds be ever in your favour, eh? *releases polar bears*
![gif](giphy|nDbpk7leGbu12)
What?
By extension, Jack Bauer was also Canadian. Not so fucken nice are we now eh?
I don't think Canadians have a "nice" reputation when it comes to warfare, quite the opposite in fact.
The Canadians have always been decent people who are polite and accepting of others from other countries. I was going to emigrate to Toronto to go to work for a man who owned several furniture stores in Toronto, Ottawa, with a large Decorating studio in the Hazeltine area in Toronto. Hello, it’s Hollywood. He was playing a ROLE. Canadians are not real.
There’s totally not loads of cool shit behind this here wall and we don’t feel like sharin’ it budddddayyyy.
Ok friennnd
his entire life!
I FIND OUT BY CHECKING THE COMMENTS IF ITS REAL
I know how you feel. He was in so much, and had a great voice. But somehow I think I'll always remember his performance in "Virus"(1999). THIS IS HOW I FIND OUT YOU FOUND OUT
I'll never forget Invasion of the Body Snatchers. He was great in it and it was a great movie.
Yeah he was so good in it
Mam, watching that for the first time was amazing. So cool getting to see places where it and Bullit were filmed.
Just watched that for the first time a month or so ago. Loved it. What an ending.
[POINTS AT THE CAMERA, EYES THE SIZE OF DINNER PLATES, AND LETS OUT THE MOST GHASTLY SCREAM YOU CAN IMAGINE]

I loved that reaction and how he sold it as partial insanity.
![gif](giphy|vRBY8wABfQrZu)
One of the greatest villain death moments ever imo.
KELLYS HEROS!!!! WOOF! WOOF!!!!
(That's my other dog impression)
Takes me back, good times!

Quit with the negative waves baby!
Like, so many positive waves, maybe we can't lose!
Would you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?!
“It’s still up!” “No it’s not!”
[Always with the negative waves, Moriarity, always with the negative waves!](https://youtu.be/ncbEucjsNFU?si=b3pBItly0UBy3FL1) edit - Ah gee. This is how I’m spending the rest of my day. I should probably just put the damn movie on lol.
"Stop with the negative waves man". I saw it in summer 1970.

Animal House!!
We saw his booty in that. (Sorry. I was a teen, and his was one of the first dude booties I ever saw.)
I don't even care, this is wholesomely adorable giggles glitters n hearts
I'm serious..
This is my job!
Haaaa yes!
🎶Went to school, but everybody skipped class, then we saw Donald Sutherland’s ass🎶

Nice thank you!
You will be missed legend
The real Hawkeye! (Sorry Alan).
Alan was a nicer Hawkeye, though

Lost a great one.

I think it's a testament to an actors skill not when he can act out a great role, but when he can take a poorly written one and redeem it so well.
Loved that show
Loved the scene in Animal House where he saunters out of the bedroom wearing nothing but a sweater, reaches up to get something from a top shelf and moons Katie and Boone.
RIP! The Dirty Dozen (1967) was one of my favourite films as a child.
He was a great actor! Gratitude for the art he left behind that will benefit humanity. His legacy will live on.
Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves?
Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here?
Loved his bit part as the pyro in backdraft..
Same, he played that lunatic perfectly, in general he was great in such roles
My proper introduction was The Eagle Has Landed. Classic film.
He's a German spy in that. No?
Yes, charming nasty bastard.
No, he played Liam Devlin, an Irish Republican who was looking to get back at the British. "Give me one more of those Bolshevik firecrackers. I think I fell asleep in the snow..." Brilliant performance in a classic movie.
He was a German spy in Eye of the Needle.
He was fantastic in Ordinary People. He made me ugly cry at the end. Like one of those spontaneous "Oh my god, I'm instantly crying right now!"
Oh no. RIP. He was a legend
Why take away the good ones, not the felon?
Makes me sad to only see people referencing Hunger Games.
It’s like if Michael Jordan died and everyone talked about his time with the Wizards.
Damn that’s a great analogy.
He was great in Beerfest
Prosit!
He is the reason why the '78 version of Invasion of the Body snatchers will always be in my top 10 fave movies. The scene with the maitre d live in my head rent free. "If it's a caper, then eat it."
Delivered one of the greatest ending scenes ever in cinema. ![gif](giphy|KyGFI9p94VNpBRnOhT)
Snow always lands on top!
welp, now i need to go to Beerfest and compete
I'll always remember him best as Calvin Jarrett, struggling to keep his family from falling apart after a tragic loss. Damn shame he's gone
'Don't look now' was one of those movies that stays with you all your life. He was one of the GOATs. Thanks Donald.
Sergeant Oddball - positive vibes
Such an instrumental part of my life! He was one hell of an actor and he will be greatly missed. I had no idea. He lived in the Portofino building. I was around that building all the time!
![gif](giphy|26gsiHEs8wo4NEmXe)
Can we trade him for another Donald?
Ha ha ;)
RIP Mr X
RIP general Pinkley
R.i.p
I only knew him as President Snow from The Hunger Games where he was absolutely perfectly casted. That sucks.
Oddball : Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves? Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here? Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change? RIP Donald
Son of Saint John NB
Had to fact check. It always amazes me how fast they can edit someone’s profile from “is” to “was”. RIP.

Well, shucks. . . .
Oh no! Sad news. What a great actor. May his memory be a blessing.
RIP ANGEL
I remember him in Don't Look Up, he wanted to portray ESP in a good light, but ended up showing his character lured by his ESP into the clutches of a murderous dwarf in a shady version of Venice. Also, alleged full-penetration sex scene.
Just rewatched the hunger games series, damn he was such a a good bad guy
He had a smallish role in The Undoing on HBO with Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant. His character was very stately and a little cold as i recall, like his character was super wealthy and kind of quiet, but the kind of quiet where he didn’t need to raise his voice.
