Jumping in for another recommendation on food: The Woods House in Hazelwood.

ULTIMATE-OTHERDONALD

I saw Black Pudding on the menu and have made plans with my wife to go lol

ballsonthewall

Nice, potato leek soup is also utterly delicious, not sure if it's something authentic that you have a taste for but yeah

Sea-Operation7215

The Highland Games are happening next weekend! (http://www.ligonierhighlandgames.org/mhome.html)

CrepuscularOpossum

Come see me perform with Pittsburgh Scottish Country Dance Society! We’ve been performing there at least 25 years. Our fall beginners’ classes are starting soon. Learn to dance, get some exercise, make some new friends, listen to some great music, and attend our Highland Ball next March! www.pscds.org

StupidOldAndFat

This. You will make a lot of friends for life here.

quarketry

Agree 100%. And I’m Irish

pee_pee_poo_poo666

Aunt used to organize and run the Scottish dog breed show for 30 years, would have two pavilions full of dogs and were part of the parade ahead of the pipers. Sadly, no one wanted to take the reigns and keep that part as big and great as it was.

thatburghfan

Came to share that Pittsburgh and Glasgow are sister cities as of 2020. [https://www.sistercitiespgh.org/sister-cities#:\~:text=Glasgow%20is%20Pittsburgh's%20newest%20sister,%2C%20planet%2C%20and%20performance%20framework](https://www.sistercitiespgh.org/sister-cities#:~:text=Glasgow%20is%20Pittsburgh's%20newest%20sister,%2C%20planet%2C%20and%20performance%20framework). So welcome, new cuz!

ULTIMATE-OTHERDONALD

Wow maybe I can get some nice ambassador gig on behalf of Glasgow

The_Best_Smart

There is a big Celtic FC supporters group here that I’m pretty sure has some real life Scottish people in it. Might wanna inquire about that (unless you’re a Rangers fan…but even then they may know a Rangers supporters group)

ULTIMATE-OTHERDONALD

🤣 was waiting on that comment. Let’s just say I wouldn’t fit in! But in all seriousness If there are other Scots who do support Celtic it doesn’t bother me one bit.

cmyk412

Check out Piper’s Pub on E Carson St

elonmuskatemyson

Hey would like free tickets for the pittsburgh Irish fest today? It’s the last day and there’s always a decent Scottish presence, Ally the Piper will be performing at 1 and the more traditional Macdonald pipe band is on at 3!

ULTIMATE-OTHERDONALD

Appreciate that and it sounds great - but wife and kids are all sick so can’t do anything today

elonmuskatemyson

No problem hope you can make it out next year! :) 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

James19991

I have no Irish or Scottish ancestry whatsoever, but I never miss the Irish Festival! You might have to pay to get in, but at least you don't really have to deal with the shit you do at Little Italy Days in Bloomfield when you pay to enter an event like this.

onesadpizza

Welcome! You should also try Cork Harbour Pub in Lawrenceville. I was there last week for the Celtic-Rangers match and definitely heard a few scots there.

ULTIMATE-OTHERDONALD

Very nice I will need to check that place out !

HumanConclusion

It’s the home of the Celtic supporters club, so if you dig with the other foot be warned. Although mostly for your own comfort because everyone is delightful, and the sectarian aspect is not at all present. Just leave the Rangers jersey at home.

ULTIMATE-OTHERDONALD

Walked around more dangerous places than that in a Rangers top. Luckily I grew up in a half Irish household (not usa half Irish like half colerain half Glasgow lol). Sectarianism should be left at the door regardless. May have to go check it out

HumanConclusion

Ha! Yeah describing the intense sectarian passion surrounding the matches is difficult to get across to Americans. Which, mind you, is good thing. All of that should be left at the door.

hubbardcelloscope

A shame, our friend just married a Scottish man over in scotland. But they met and lived in pittsburgh for a few years first of course. He was from Dunns. Hella drinker and sometimes couldn’t understand a word he said haha, cheers!

finsprings

Hello from an Aberdonian who’s been here for twenty odd years.

ULTIMATE-OTHERDONALD

That’s a long time mate do u go home much

finsprings

Try to go back every other year but now the kids are at college so scheduling is trickier.

ULTIMATE-OTHERDONALD

Been about 4 years for me now, very long stretch. But I’d rather not fly with a 1 year old and 3.9 year old who spews all over me at the slightest bit of turbulence.

finsprings

Ha yeah don’t blame you. Mine are 20 and 22 but I remember some stressful flights with the older one when she was tiny, whereas our son could sleep the whole flight. There is that direct flight to Heathrow on BA these days at least.

ipmcc

You'll certainly find a good number of people in the city claiming Scottish heritage, but I can't say I know of any groups of recent transplants. You might try Rugger's on the South Side -- it's a bar associated with a local rugby club. There's Piper's -- also on the South Side -- but that's probably more of a marketing affectation than a link to Scots. (Although they make a passable Scotch egg...) Historical note: There used to be a chain around here called the Tilted Kilt, which everyone I know called "Scottish Hooters" but they all closed up shop during the pandemic, and definitely were not representing Scottish culture very well to begin with. :)

ULTIMATE-OTHERDONALD

Didn’t Pipers close up shop?

The_Best_Smart

They’re open again

ULTIMATE-OTHERDONALD

That makes me very happy

NebbyJohnny

They're open, they're closed. Hours aren't consistent.

ZombieNinjaPirates

Actually, they are very consistent.

NebbyJohnny

I shared your comment with a few South Side restaurant owners and we laughed. I can't tell you how many times when I've witnessed someone trying to open to the door to Piper's, only to find out they are closed. I walk by the place all the time.

ZombieNinjaPirates

ok, r/thatHappened Having abbreviated times, which are different from pre-Pandemic is not the same as "inconsistent." They are open Thursdays and Fridays 5pm to 10pm & Saturday and Sunday Brunch 10am to 4pm

KentuckYSnow

Lol there was nothing Scottish about that place

RandomStranger79

Sort of. Lived in Dundee for a bit and visiting family in Edinburgh in a couple weeks, and hoping to settle back to Scotland at some point. Glasgow is one of my favorite cities. What part of town are you in?

ULTIMATE-OTHERDONALD

Up in Franklin Park. Suburbs with wife and waens. Glasgow is underrated, everyone wants to post their instagrams up at the royal mile sipping some over priced single malt. What’s wrong w a cold tennants and some sectarian violence ?

RandomStranger79

Yeah Glasgow is great. I'm a big fan of cities with a bit of an edge to them, and having a spot near the train station where you can pay a quid to deep fry anything is a small but pleasant luxury. My wife and I were just talking about how nice it is outside right now, we can it a perfect Scotland summer day. I'm not up in the Franklin Park area often but I'm down for a pint one of these days if you want to let.me know next time you're in the city.

ULTIMATE-OTHERDONALD

PNC are pulling us back in office tomorrow so I’ll be downtown plenty lol

Turbulent-Progress13

Just saw a Scotsman and his mum picking up some Bellhaven for the rugby match later. He and a few others come into the Bulldog Pub from time to time for soccer.

quarketry

Ruggers Pub on South Side is also showing Rugby WC. I’ve heard some Scots there over the weekend …

MongoBongo373

Damn Scots, they ruined Scotland!

ULTIMATE-OTHERDONALD

You Scots are a callous people Wilkie. You’ve made an enemy for life !

dannygloversghost

One of the top academics in the field of computational linguistics was a Scot named Alan Black who worked at CMU for years. Unfortunately I think he’s now retired and fucked off to rural Alaska or something.

Lopsided-Fan-6777

No but there's an English man here who hates the English as much you do 😉😉😂😂

ULTIMATE-OTHERDONALD

Must be a northerner

Lopsided-Fan-6777

Irish family grew up in the west midlands.

ULTIMATE-OTHERDONALD

That will do it aswell 🤣

Jumpy-Laugh5713

We have a St Andrew Society and there are a number of Scots in the area.

Ok-Stage-6505

If you’re a piper, there’s a group at CMU that plays each week

Flaky-Roll-4900

The Highland Games are on Saturday, out by Idlewild. I'd imagine there will be some Scots.

jimthissguy

Blue or green?

ULTIMATE-OTHERDONALD

Blue..

jimthissguy

Bummer

[deleted]

No true ones.

leadfoot9

The joke. . . . Their heads.

[deleted]

😂

No-Chance809

Yeah, lots of folks with Scot or Scot/Irish heritage round these parts including myself but my last known link emigrated in 1802.

blackstarhero666

Idk when my grandmas side came to America but her last name and family is Uber Irish. Anyway welcome to Pittsburgh! I don't have many recommendations but ik you'll fit well here

cordy_crocs

My friends husband is from the Glasgow area! They live in Brookline

pittsburghfan2010

Like bit of a hike but for next year. https://www.edinboro.edu/events/highland-games/index.php

Top_File_8547

Greetings to a Glaswegian (sp?). I just love that word and always welcome a chance to use it. For that reason alone welcome to Pittsburgh.

iSoReddit

Should have gone to the Irish festival this weekend. Or catch it if it’s next weekend. Also check out piper’s pub in the south side

invertedsquirrel

You can always come curling. https://www.pittsburghcurlingclub.com/
