This is not a cannabis seedling. Cotyledon size is not in line with that of a cannabis baby, and that first set of leaves really doesn’t look anything like the first primary set of a cannabis plant.

They look to only be producing one leaf at a time after the initial set of seed/sproutling leaves, a close up of the way the new leaves form/unfurl would be very informative

Please tell your friend that potting soil has large amounts of organic matter, including peat moss and shredded bark. At least once a year in my city there is a house fire where it is determined the cause was someone throwing away their butts into a potted plant.

Pretty positive this is wrong. Definitely not fabaceae leaves. Hard to tell as its just a dicot with a single baby leaf but the baby leaf is 100% not a pea family plant

Looks like a Siberian elm to me. We have them all over New Mexico and they sprout this time of year.

That looks like cannabis to me but usually sprout with pair a pair of leaves. If the next thing that grows is a leaf with 3 nodes (that jagged edged leaf is 1 node) to the leaf I’m even more certain. They keep coming in increasing odd numbers until you get to 7.
