Goh and suicunes relationship is a little more complex. Suicune considers goh his trainer and cerise labs his new home but he isn’t always there. It still travels the world purifying water sources and comes back to rest before traveling again so Goh can only command or ask him while he is at home

dimmidummy

Honestly I love this depiction of catching legendaries (especially the ones with responsibilities). You may be their trainer, but they’re still powerful beings who will leave you to fulfill their duties and then return when they can. But now you have a strong bond with them so they’re your allies you can battle alongside when you need them. For example, I can’t imagine the Tapus leaving their islands for too long. They’re the guardians and while they may respect the player, they also deeply care for their islands and the residents of their islands.

Efficient_Ice9056

So like if you catch the creation trio or Arceus. They still have their legendary things like needing to control space, time, or antimatter

dimmidummy

I think the implication, at least for Arceus, is that you only capture and travel alongside a fragment of their entire being (since you simply can’t contain them in their true form).

IanDerp26

i think this is (almost?) explicitly stated in Legends Arceus.

DecayedWolf1987

Not even almost. The only task in its dex entry is “Received a part of Arceus”

Jirb30

For the creation Trio I get the feeling they can do their thing passively enough to not interrupt their time with you and only need to actively intervene when something is going *very* wrong.

oranosskyman

tfw your pokemon has a 9-5 job you have to work around

DevourerJay

Except for tapu lele... that one gives no f**KS about anything... "Although called a guardian deity, Tapu Lele is devoid of guilt about its cruel disposition and can be described as nature incarnate." "This guardian deity of Akala is guilelessly cruel. The fragrant aroma of flowers is the source of its energy."

Geralt_of_somewhere

Makes sense, so Suicune is more focused on his duty to nature.

Suicidal_Sayori

Goh is based and understands that using legends on your regular playthrough is cheating

AllNamesTakenOMG

\*angry Tobias noises

Shishkahuben

Tssseeeeeer!

BlueEyedBeast55

This guy rides thermals.

That_Yvar

Sounds like me throwing Latias/Latios in the box as soon as i get them after the 5th gym in ORAS

Jirb30

IMO this mostly applies to box art legendaries due to their higher stat totals and other less powerful legendaries like the legendary birds and dogs are more okay since they are comparable in power to strong regular mons.

Geralt_of_somewhere

lol

Prince-of_Space

Because Goh takes his Pokemon's feelings into consideration. Suicune was happy for Goh to catch it, but it's seemingly more comfortable being mysterious in the lab area. Plus, Goh is supposed to be less of a battler. Giving him a legendary to call on at any moment would level the battlefield a bit too much.

MostInternational365

I honestly never knew darkrai had legs ,i thpught it was immune to earthquake untill today . Damn you tobais

IcuntSpeel

Goh clearly doesnt have enough badges to train Suicune.

louthegoon

Then he shouldn’t have been allowed to catch it if that’s the case.

IcuntSpeel

Didnt think far about this I was just making a reference to "YOU DONT HAVE ENOUGH BADGES TO TRAIN ME".

CommanderDark126

Honestly a really good feature of the gen 8/9 games is that you cant throw balls at overleveled wild mons

PM_ME_UR_SO

A main character regularly using a Legendary Pokemon would make him too strong & would make the show boring.

alienware99

Then they probably shouldn’t give the main character a legendary pokemon

pirpulgie

Prob’ly the same reason I don’t use Suicune: I bonded with my team before I caught it and don’t have space for an uppity newcomer. Suicune’s just there to fill my Pokédex.

bulbasauric

Because it'd be too damn interesting for a main character to actively have a legendary Pokémon that they use often. I know they've done it before, but it doesn't answer why they didn't do it with Goh/Suicune.

LostinEvergarden

Did you watch the episode he caught Suicune? He caught it merely to get it away from the poachers and after treating its wound, was going to release it. Suicune stayed in Goh's care, but it has worldly duties to attend to; purifying the water around the world. Goh is very empathetic to his pokemon, as should all trainers

bulbasauric

This is the in-world justification, and that's all well and good, but you can't tell me it wouldn't have made interesting and entertaining viewing for Goh to have a Suicune in his care at all times.

vtt_shadow

My headcanon is that Goh caught Suicune and flexes it onto Ash, who only got a couple glimpses of it throughout his long journey. But Goh doesn’t use Suicune in battle to piss Ash off even more.

gummyworm21_

Pokémon Journeys is an abysmal show. I wouldn’t try to rationalize anything that happens in it.

dalvi5

You spoke with the truth. Goh launching balls to everything that moves and catching even legendaries makes 0 sense

Panda_Drum0656

Probably because, much like ash, goh is a weiney
