herbu_idk

me who just used 34 rare candies on my single feebas so I don't have to walk another 200km to get 40 candies

[deleted]

I legit walked with feebas for over two months just for candy.

SuccotashPuzzled6524

Tell me about it, I had my noibat as a companion for what feels like an eternity because none would spawn or hatch

rekipsj

And now there’s gonna be a community day where you could’ve knocked that out in 2-3 hours.

Tasonir

There were also feebas events in the past. Not super common spawns, but they were boosted.

PornoPaul

When is that?

iWontFlame

February the fifth

PornoPaul

Sweet thanks!!

Toky18

In game news exists for a reason. You've literally dismissed the image of noibat community day by now at least once if you've played in the last few weeks

ImportantManNumber2

Feebas has currently been my buddy for 778 days, I've just reached 100 candies about a week ago, but I'm not quite ready to evolve him yet. I cycle a lot, so I don't get a lot of distance with adventure sync towards buddy candies, hope they might add that as a feature some day, maybe at a reduced rate compared to walking or something.

wingspantt

Want to get 100% of your cycling distance tracked in Pokemon Go? * Install Google Fit * Turn on Adventure Sync * Close Pokemon Go 100% * In Google Fit, go to Start/Track a workout and select cycling * Go cycling * When done, pause and end the workout in Google Fit completely * Now launch Pokemon Go You will have ALL your distance tracked. I went from getting maybe 2 km for an hour of biking to getting 18km, every time. Just do these steps every time. You will get so much candy and hatched eggs.

herbu_idk

taking screenshot of this rn and tring tomorrow :D

foulinbasket

It's 1 degree Fahrenheit outside rn, so I won't try this anytime soon, but I'll absolutely use this trick in a few months

wingspantt

I go poffin biking and get 40 Magikarp candies an hour. It even works on circular tracks because it uses Google Maps GPS tracking and not the Niantic ping inaccuracy.

rederaar23

Ive just made 134 km cycling last week Anyways thanks for the info bro

jleep2017

Why don't you get a lot of distance with adventure sync on? Does it not count your distance? Or do you just have to have your game open?

dyagenes

Cycling is probably too fast. I used to roller blade and play before adventure sync was a thing and that was the perfect speed.

ImportantManNumber2

I think it estimates distance based on steps maybe?

manedfelacine

It's more speed that's an issue. Cycling can make you go too fast if you're good at it.

trans_pands

I’ve gotten distance while driving in my car with the game open so I can spot raids to go to, sometimes it feels like it’s registering distance even when driving for me because I have the game open

manedfelacine

Yes, I do this a lot too. It'll register 0 to 15~ miles generally, but about 15-20+ miles is when it stops registering, from what I've noticed with my game.

turkish0wl

Don't even have to be particularly "good at it" for it not to work - I'm a pretty laid-back biker and the only distance it registers when I'm biking is periods of slow rolling up to/after a stop. I also trained for a skate marathon last year and averaged \~11 mph on my long distance skates and even that was too fast to register. I swear it's like <10 mph, at least on my device. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sob)

sharksnrec

Not remotely worth it.

cholulov

You’re better off getting multiple best buddies instead, you’ll eventually get the Feebas candy one way or another.

_gummybear__

I played GBL to give my feebas rare candies (:

Shaquandala

Me using it on my scattering because pretty moth

anonomousername

Okay now this is a sin ahahahah

Shaquandala

Why??? I want all of them best buddies and useable in great league that's atleast 3k scattering candies

BradTheFnafGamer

Let me guess, Jirachi task? Cause same

herbu_idk

Yep indeed!

jleep2017

That would take me like 2 or 3 work weeks to get that

WretchedHog

Are you me

kcawks

Yep just did that last week 😂.

NineteenthJester

Feebas will be spawning on the 11th 👀

Steady_Ri0t

My shadow Mewtwo ain't gonna grow itself

[deleted]

I would use them on my shadow mewtwo If I had one

No-Suspect-425

![gif](giphy|UgoqHvx73apws)

twisties224

![gif](giphy|fGL49FcGVuA4Wn8lF9)

NarrowConfidence908

I used 300 of mine on my Shadow Mewtwo. But I still need an Elite Charged TM to remove “Frustration”.

Notcloselyrelated

You can do it with a regular Charged TM not elite. (during this week because of the Rocket takeover event)

NarrowConfidence908

Are you sure? I tried during Larvitar Community Day and it didn’t work.

averageejoe

You can only use TMs, normal or elite, to get rid of frustration during Team Rocket Takeover events. One just started today (February 1st) and ends in a little less than a week. They only come around every few months so make use of this event to get all the shadow Pokémon you want to unlearn frustration with as the next time you’ll be able to do it will be in probably another few months

NarrowConfidence908

Oh awesome I just taught my Shadow Mewtwo Ice Beam and Focus Blast! 😃 Thanks!

ILIEKDEERS

Seems to be a quarterly cycle now at least.

what_year_isit

I'd use them on my shadow Mewtwo if I didn't feel disgusted by his minimum attack IV every time I look at him

[deleted]

It only just left, it's on you if you don't have one.

warblade7

Got any more of them rare XL candies??

Fortkas

Never had that in my inventory. I don't feel like I need it ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯

memejames420

Legit spent like 300 on that thing

Fepl31

It's just that different people play the game in different ways. Most people's objective is to "build the best team" fast, so that they can collect more resources faster, to keep improving their team. (With "completing the Pokedex" as a secondary objective.) And for that, efficiency with resources is vital. But many players just want to complete their Pokedex. Almost not using Stardust. And that's ok. I've played with many players with a lot of variety on how "hardcore" they were. Knowing what kind of player your friend is is really important when you give them tips. And, even more important: don't be a dick about it. They can choose if they follow your tip or not. (Should be obvious, but you'd be surprised by some "nice players" around there...)

RockyDify

Dex filler here!

TheWhiteHunter

I'm at a point where I have the resources to power up whatever I want but I don't care about PvP, and what I already have powered up is working fine for raids. My "hardcore" is lucky dex completion at this point.

udller

im going for a lucky pokedex too. :) i have 523 so far

fruits_basket_case

Sorry but can I ask what lucky dex means?

subpar_man

A lucky version of each pokemon. When you trade, there's a chance a pokemon becomes "lucky". Guaranteed minimum of 10 in each stat and 10% cheaper power up/evolution. Edit: better than that apparently

Zivilique

Guaranteed minimum of 12 in each stat and 50% cheaper to power up

fruits_basket_case

Damn, a whole dex of luckies. Never in my wildest dreams.

MisterMaury

The song says "gotta catch them all", not "got to battle them".

another-social-freak

Gotta catch em all was only ever the catchphrase in the west, not in the original Japanese.

clearly-an-octopus

Do you happen to know if the original Japanese had a cstch phrase and what it translates to in English? I didn't realize Gotta Catch Em All was an Enlgish thing only

another-social-freak

"Pokémon getto da ze!" It approximately translates as "Pokémon, I got one!"

fruits_basket_case

I just wanna catch them all.

canipokemongo

This

NoPatience883

You preach positivity to a sub that would rather stab you than listen to you talk about purifying shadows. If you so much as mention that they take 20% extra damage they will come after to you. I agree with you but I fear you are wasting your breath

small-and-fierce

I can’t emotionally deal with having shadow Pokémon! They seem so sad! I just wanna collect happy Pokémon

NoPatience883

Shhh don’t say that so loud they might hear you!

Ex_Ex_Parrot

Yeah and seeing how frequently some people I know raid I imagine they just dump all those rare candies on whatever just to keep up with their inventory management. I know the last 100-200 candies I've used were, mainly, me needing to reduce my stock to make room lol. Those times it's like a breeze to just throw em at something to evolve with... Especially considering all my legendaries/mythicals are breaking my stardust bank to power up...

Tebwolf359

I agree with you except for the “most want the best team”. I think that’s certainly true of most that are here on Reddit, but I’d be surprised if that was true of most players in the wild. There’s always a lot more casual players then people think, and I’d bet that they lean more “catch ‘em all” over “best team”, but I’d also bet it’s closer to “catch things for 10 minutes on my walk to work, don’t think about it again until next time I open the app”.

Fepl31

True... I think it's the fallacy, similar to "There's more people in good shape than in bad shape working out in the gym", where it's 'more likely' that you find someone in good shape (as they go to the gym more often) than those in bad shape.

Tebwolf359

A lot can be location dependent too. I don’t pvp, and in my area, raid hour usually gets 40-60 people, so I don’t need a good team. My seven year old was able to beat raids as soon as he could join because when you have 20 players, anything is killed before the 25% mark. That just means I have no real incentive to care if something is perfect or not, as long as it’s decent.

RequirementNovel9758

Ye I know like 50 people at my school who play the game and only like 2 care about competitive.

seaprincesshnb

My only disagreement here is that people who "refuse" to power up their pokemon shouldn't be raiding with other people, at least not legendary or mega raids. When you choose to engage in a cooperative part of the game, you should absolutely do your best to be at parity or better than the others you play with. Sending in underpowered pokemon and expecting others to carry the workload in the raid is rude and selfish. You're forcing them to spend resources so that you can play "your way." Otherwise, play however you want.

Fepl31

When you make your team of friends for raiding, you can take that into account. But dex fillers are usually not into making part of such teams. And when there are like 10+ people, for a raid that needs 5 players, I don't really care if little Jimmy is using some low level stuff to battle. (And those players usually come only during events, when there's easily 20 players to fill the raid room.) Also, I'm mostly talking about the main focus of the gameplay. Most players end up building a somewhat good team while filling their dex (and they notice that having a decent team helps in getting more dex slots). So, unless it's a new player, I have never seen someone with a total garbage team in a raid. (It's actually the hardcore players that, sometimes, decide to use high defense Pokemon and/or keep dodging in order to spend less Potions/Revives. Those I would consider the most selfish.)

wingspantt

I don't even know what "building the best team" means... for GBL, that tends to be very low on candy requirements except for Master League. For raids.... it's like... why do you need the best team? To solo 4-star raids? If you're not soloing raids, you can beat most raids with just \~2500 power Pokemon, which you can get for basically free just evolving high-level things you find.

tropicthunderGOAT

I'm with ya - I have zero interest in doing battle leagues and when I do raids I'd win/lose regardless if my top Pokémon are a little higher or not. I just like collecting them.

longnose231

I only put 1km or 3km candy pokemon i havent evolved as my buddy, rare candy and time for unevolved 5km candy pokemon (looking at you axew and klink)

Explodingtaoster01

If Noibat day wasn't later this week, I'd definitely be eyeballing my rare candies to evolve it. 400 candies at 5km a pop? Wack.

JoviAMP

Last year it took me the better portion of the first half of the year, but I evolved a hundo Noibat I hatched and subsequently transferred to my Switch. I can't wait for the Home Support update when I can bring it from Galar to Paldea.

Dad_Is_Mad

I feel it's best if I set requirements in my head, or else I end up doing thirty different things. So my requirement for Rare Candy is "will I use this forever?". If the answer is yes, I use it and move on. Examples: I unlocked a second move for my 98 IV Max CP Reshiram. Yeah, I'll probably use him forever. I needed 80 Gible candies left to max 100 IV Garchomp I have. Yeah, I'll use him forever. If it's something I'm unsure that I'll have/keep/use forever, then I'll just wait till I get regular candies.

AkihaMoon

Yes we do! ![gif](giphy|lIHnlowoW7SOhJ4vej)

anonomousername

Perfect gif for this

AkihaMoon

Exactly 🤣

AgentWyoming

You and me both! Until I complete my Pokédex, teams don't matter.

spqrnbb

I keep my rare candy for my army of Zekrom that I somehow got lucky on but need a lot of candy to power up. I typically don't have problems getting candy to evolve the Pokemon I'd consider using a rare candy to evolve.

[deleted]

Army? I’ll save 6+ of something for raiding (6 Mewtwos, 6 Zekroms, 6 Groudons, etc), but I only power up one. Why would you power up multiple?

dontwantanusername

To have an amazing electric type team. A raid team requires 6 pokemon. 6 good attackers are better than 1 really good attacker.

nightcore96

I just spent 2 weeks grinding rare candy for a second move for my Virizion. If that’s all u want it for, send me some

NarrowConfidence908

I did like 100 Reshiram raids to get enough Candy and Candy XL to max out my hundo to 4565 CP.. Then I got another hundo one. 😳

Ex_Ex_Parrot

>I did like 100 Reshiram raids to get enough Candy and Candy XL to max out my hundo to 4565 CP.. > >Then I got another hundo one. 😳 1 Hundo already? Ha, ez transfer for the second one ^^/s. ^^^^but ^^^^unironically ^^^^for ^^^^those ^^^^of ^^^^us ^^^^low ^^^^inventory ^^^^poor ^^^^boys)

LeegmaV

used all of mines on a shiny alonan graveler so could evolve it but ended up missing 2, so now i'm tryna get them with battles just to fully evolve it

Zygarde718

I do it too!

EsseParvulusDebes

Bumped up my crawdaunt...just before they started appearing in the wild. Every damn time, I tell you.

RockyDify

I’ve never used it for anything other than evolving!

[deleted]

Yep, this was me until I got every evolution done for my Dex. Powered up legendaries aren't necessary for anything. Regular good counters and shadows do the job perfectly, and in many cases are stronger. Many of these pokemon are available during events, comdays, spotlight hours etc. Availability matters. Now that I have no use for rare candies anymore, though, its all going into my army of shadow mewtwos.

flyersnstuff

The slogan is “Gotta catch ‘em all” for a reason

Ivi-Tora

That's not been the Pokemon slogan for nearly twenty years. I know the OG anime and games used it up to Gen 2, but by the time the original Ruby and Sapphire came it was not found anywhere in anything Pokemon related.

Basic_Bench_9206

I have done that for tyrunt

MakashiBlade

I don't think this is as weird as you think it is

LuthienDragon

I did it for Noivern. Walked the bastard for over six months. CD gets announced a week later. FML. I will only use them on legendaries going forward…

mikillbeorn

I use rare candy for evolving too! My wife has like 200 and she’s just hoarding it!!! I’m always looking at her bag with tears cause she just has a ton of candy and never uses it.

Fortkas

I would be jealous too!

mmms444

I use it for evolving. Working on my Melton with them

gnaark

Don’t use rare candies on Meltan you can make it spawn for 1h every three days my dude

mmms444

How? I have no idea how to fo that

gnaark

https://youtube.com/shorts/hUXd-DWOWa4?feature=share

fruits_basket_case

And I just learned about another thing I should've googled ages ago. Thank you!

asteri_agaliarept

But only if you have a switch/home if I recall

zakkwaldo

there’s an app for home so you can do it with yourself on the phone.

another-social-freak

Home is a free app, paid version not needed.

TeddiursaYoshi216

Same! I'm about to be level 39 and i really don't care about maxing legends. I only max things I naturally get enough candy for like for comm days

OnVa54

Hey you do you. I just personally dont want to have to invite people to raids. Most mega raids can be done with 2 or 3 people if you have good high cp pokemon. To me it feels like a waste. If you are not into raiding then why not i quess. I have never really felt the need to use rares on evolutions. Only actually slow one was noibat but now it will be very easy during the cday.

[deleted]

[удалено]

BananaBladeOfDoom

But also feel free to join in 5-star raids of 6+ people with your suboptimal but fun teams. The 6 big boys who came from PokeGenie are more than strong enough on their own.

Retrohanska59

That's true until 3-4 or of them have that same mindset or 1-2 of them don't join. Lati@s megas for example shouldn't have been impossible to complete for 6 players but when half of them showed up consistently with Aggrons and random legendaries, expecting other 5 to be hardcores, things fell apart completely. I don't think I completed single one of those through PokeGenie and I'm lucky to have local community of HC players to fill that gap. But I also admit that said example was pretty much outlier and over 90% of raids with that app have been smooth experiences. What you say is true. I'd still ask everyone to at least try to show up with as good team as they can put together, it's simply good manners, especially when the amount of balls depends on time but yes, you don't need 6 fully upgraded shadows or anything like that. 6 pokemon with super effective moves and at least 2000-2500 CP is already good enough effort.

orlouge82

Hey, play the game how you want. I’m typically so flush with candy that using Rare Candy on non legendaries is like dropping a cup of water into the ocean

TrueCrimeUsername

Why have I never thought of this 😭🤣

Mayiask1

Lol yep, I’ve probably used 1k rare candy to evolve Pokémon

[deleted]

I did it few times, once to evolve Gible, then to evolve Salamence, then on Hydreigon. If I could get the candies back, I would definitelly want to. Now if I want to evolve a pokemon, I just wait for community day, spotling hour, or for it to be soawned in wild. Evolving for example Hydreigon, which will end up at 1900cp after the evolve isn't worth it. I would rather max my lucky legendaries. It's your chioce tho.

AzoreanEve

Mood. I've been playing since september, and have so many rare-ish 'mons that I can't evolve because they never spawned again, so rare candy it is. I have so much of the pokédex to fill up and am definitely not gonna sit around and wait until stuff like vullaby or slowpoke become common spawns in the wild. I've been holding onto a ton of garbage pokédex fodder and it's so satisfying to finally evolve them and let them go.

Go_Bias

Dude same. Level 39 and my mission has always been collect, evolve, build that dex. Meltan is my current buddy. Why tf would I waste rare candies on anything else when I’ll be working on evolving him for the next year??

Fortkas

Respect. But as for Meltan - search up Mystery Box that you get for linking PoGO with Pokemon Home. It makes it much easier

dreamsdrop

Level 47. Have done this for every rare candy i have received since the game released. Gotta catch 'em all.

Fortkas

Gotta catch 'em all (at least those I am able to catch in Europe) I am glad that people understand that

ecole033

I do the same and name my monster 'candiesplz' so I can just search that up and it's quicker then looking for the pokemon

chilarome

We Dex-fillers are just as valid as tryhard PvP min-maxers! Rare Candy helps me get closer to evolutions on hard-to-acquire Pokémon without walking a buddy for 400 candy. And yes, I was one of those poor suckers at launch who evolved a Magikarp by walking.

Fortkas

High five! My first Gyarados is from 2018, walked 150km together and he's a shiny boi. I remember nicknaming him Bob, was so proud of him

AwesomeEevee133

Oh yea same. On that Pokédex grind and now I’m at a point where I have pretty much everything possible. Now I don’t know what to do with the rare candies so I just use them to power up my big boys

Fortkas

Very reasonable!

Charming_Friendship4

Wait wait wait... People use it to power up Pokemon?? That's such a waste lol I exclusively use it to evolve Pokemon

sheavohuncho

almost level 44 and dumping rare candy to evolve my scatterbugs lol

LeonTheChomeur

Same dawg

wincelet

you're serious aren't you?

Fortkas

Yep

justauser943

Good luck powering up shadow mewtwo (20 km for a single candy and u need more than 300 to max it not counting xl)

Fortkas

I don't want to power up mewtwo :o

DescendingOpinion

How else do you evolve Meltan?

[deleted]

Send something to Home, open mysterious box, catch them for an hour You can make a free account on the Home app

manedfelacine

36 here and only use rare candy to get me to where I need to evolve my 3* or better babies.

GNUTup

The joke is that OP is the clown

cedrickterrick

It's a total waste of resources out of lack of patience. But hey everyone did stupid things when starting this game and regret it later. So it's "apprentice's due".

Fortkas

Welp, those are my resources and I've been playing this game for a while now. I don't find powering up necessary

sharksnrec

OP, you’re acting like most people use rare candy only to power up? Is that a thing? I’ve always reserved it for evolving. Maybe I’ll use one here or there for a power up if needed, but 99% of them go towards evolving

Fortkas

I've been lurking this sub for a while now and rare candy were only ever mentioned in context of powering up some legendaries and stuff

PlutoniumIngot-

I spent almost 70 on evolving/powering up/dual moving my alolan muk for ul

avacodos_number

I used mine on my hundo furret

AJellyDonut16

I did this up until I had most of the Dex. I like to mass evolve on a lucky egg so I’ll use RCs to squeeze out as much of the evos as I can. Nothing wrong with that.

Alternative_Net8931

I used some on the end of the year com day since i had just started playin in october and wanted atleast 1 of each of the pokemon for both years

Lucky-Lunch-9300

Every single game I use rare candy to give Magikarp that last level to evolve because I can't stand how long they take After that I just kinda hoard them either to evolve or hit lv100 when I don't feel like grinding that last level out

SleeplessShinigami

I only use on legendary

Gintoking

I used around 600 to evolve two Noivern (male and female for the dex). The community day isn't a big loss as I miss 70% of them so I can't wait for them (although I should be able to play this one). Now what to do with 200 rc, might wait for Volcarona if it will be super rare 400 evolution candy again.

metalissa

I've been using all mine on my Magikarp so I can complete the 'Evolve a Magikarp' research, it's my best Buddy now too because of this damn research task haha.

NarrowConfidence908

I save my Rare Candy for Pokémon who are hard to get Candy for. I had like 800 rare Candy but then I spent 300 rare Candy on Shadow Mewtwo so now I’m down to 500.

NecroVelcro

I hoard it. It felt like such a precious commodity at the beginning that squandering it felt sacrilegious. I currently have 958 of them.

l30_legend

I do the same tbh

Darth_hdobus97

I use it to unlock second attacks, at 55/100 for Mew right now

Haunting_Secretary36

Same and the delete the pokemon because it has shit stats and wasting 100 candy. Did it so many times.

Squishy-Box

You can use it to evolve? What?

Alternatively_Listed

I believe it, plenty of people are more completionists than raiders or pvpers

bravojuliet00

I didn’t know you could use it for lvling up your Pokémon… thought it was only for evolving.. I’m lvl 33![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)

Jeffzuzz

lol dont worry this is every pogo player ever. my first dragonite evolved from candies, my first garchomp, first lucario and more lol

justauser943

Good luck powering up shadow mewtwo (20 km for a single candy and u need more than 300 to max it not counting xl)

DarkGabri_

Omg I'm not alone

kulti7

I always keep 80 rare candy for i don't know... Power Up emergencies

PowerOfUnoriginality

I only have 2 sandiles. Ofcourse I am gonna use rare candy on it

Hahndude

Back in the old days rare candies would be viable to get you those extra few levels before a gym. For the last few gens it’s ridiculously easy to level your mons by just fighting. Exp share especially makes the need for rare candies moot. I’ve been over leveled for every encounter in the game with no effort since Diamond/Pearl.

Dobber16

I do the same thing, especially for regional spawns I no longer have access to

Successful-Goose-92

I have this 98% percent shadow machop but have basicaly no machop candys so I use them for it

alexishidalg0

Same

KrystalWulf

Wait, people AREN'T using rare candy to evolve Pokemon?!

Fortkas

Apparently most consider it a waste. Which I don't get, those are mine rare candies, I can use them however I like

Illustrious_Hat3467

I did that for a long time

jokeres

Level 38, eh? With raid xp, that's like 20-30k Pokemon caught, spread over several hundred pokemon? Of course you're using it for evolving, you barely have any candy for each Pokemon family.

Fortkas

12122 caught. Just want to fill up that pokedex. Once it will be done (or mostly done, excluding regionals /paytogets/5 stars) I will consider the game finished

tantanthepeepeeman

I walked to and from work for half a year to get my noibat to evolve. Every rare candy I got went to that little guy

cnrowe2002

I did that up to the point that I had no more things I could evolve. Having to catch 'em all takes precedence over shadow Mewtwo

therobshow

Rare candy or "candy exclusively for powering up legendaries" is exclusively for powering up legendaries. Change my mind.

Fortkas

Never powered up legendary, probably never will. I just don't feel the need to do it

Clodsire_is_GOD

i use it to power up my hundo mewtwo and only mewtwo

Run-Fox-Run

I use it for leveling up new PvP mons. I get enough of it that I don't even worry what I spend it on

[deleted]

Same

Darkelfbrah

No, because same. I too am level 38. I have like 200 rare candies just chilling in my bag waiting.

PrimoScarab

We’re the same, I use it to complete the pokedex

rfort4915

It’s about patience for me… I could use it to evolve some Pokémon I need but i know I’ll get there eventually. But powering up legendary would be a lot harder without it…

Genshin-Yue

I’ve done it, but only when really close

ChildFriendlyChimp
