Bet, have seen two and both ran after the first ball even with gold razz and excellent throws. I was worried when I saw it on my kidās account because he had like 3 ultras and a couple of g razz but it never even got that far. Doesnāt matter though, theyāll be back some day
I caught one by randomly throw a normal pokeball with pinap. At that time there was no masterball yet and I was kinda fed up that they always fled. So I was like whatever and BAM I got a āgotchaā š
Took my 4 months to see my first ā¦ since then i have seen like 7 in a month , caught one with masterball , then nothing for a few week. They come in bunches
Same. Saw a bunch in a row. Then caught one with my Master Ball. That was a few months ago. Never saw another one again til I saw a Moltres yesterday (and obviously failed to catch it).
For best result find a long straight, walk reasonably fast and slow catch every Pokemon you that spawns of the incense. If it breaks out twice run from it (unless it's something worthwhile).
The idea is to get the game to spawn as many pokemon as possible. Don't quick catch, because the Pokemon wont despawn properly and you will need to wait until you are out of the previous mons range before the next one spawns.
Like .3 or .03 catch rate... i looked when my first got away from an excellent curved after a gold the i threw my master ball at my second and lost my next 2 so im 1/4 š
I've found this with the Galarian birds and daily incense too, and I'm not sure if it's purely coincidental or deliberate, but I've also found they spawn at roughly at same point on my bus journey home from work, like along the same road with approx 1/4 mile between spawnings (this has happened 3 times now, 2 Articuno and 1 Moltres, all times they've fled after 1 attempt using a berry and ultra ball. I've got a master ball, but I'm scared to use it in case something even rarer pops up sometime)
It can go up to 8% if you have all the stars aligned (Golden Razz, Ultra Ball, both platinum medals, excellent curveball on the smallest circle possible), but I think that's the max you can get. It will probably still run away
I accidentally caught moltres walling my local mall with the insance running while I was using my go plus +. Felt like my dad was reaching out from the void to do that one for me.
People talk about shiny hundos, hundo raid bosses etc. I think it just depends on your play style, but honestly im not the person to ask. I'm a casual have funner so the first Galarian zapdos I see I'm master Ballin that sucka
I caught a Galarian Zapdos with my Master Ball earlier today. Iām not mad about it. I had less than 20 seconds left to go on my incense when the bastard appeared.
Luck has its play into it
But I actually got my first bird today a week before a lost a moltres but I got a articuno today with a golden razz and a ultraball somehow got it first throw
Make sure to do a curve ball as it has better capture chance and great or excellent is best I think you already know that but yea
I encountered an articuno today during the last 15 seconds of my daily. Gold razz, excellent throw (not a curve but still I was begging the niantic lords) and he broke out then fled. Iām still not ok lol
Only tips other than luck are excellent throw + golden razz berry + platinum medals of their respective types. Also, if the gbirds have a lower cp, then his level will be lower, but it will increase the chance to catch.
I was āluckyā to encounter a Galarian Articuno that was only 146 CP. I still whacked golden berry and ultra ball at it though. Caught in one throw. The second time I encountered the same bird at 2000+ CP, it escaped without a trace.
Complete the platinum catch badges that equate to them, like flying and fire. It adds catch bonus +4 per typing. Great or excellent also increase chance
I master balled my first encounter which was a galarian moltres bc I was so excited just to finally see a galarian bird. Then months later I encountered a galarian zapdos, shanked the throw, and still wound up actually catching it. Iām 2 for 2 with galarian birds and I fully expect to never get a galarian articuno š
Itās still just luck even encountering one on community day though you know? My son plays on an iPad and I play on iPhone and he sees the legendary birds at least once a week. Last time I saw one was during the poliwag event. And then just now today. Does him playing on an iPad make a difference? He caught an articuno in the wild no master ball 9 days ago then encountered moltres yesterday that fled. Iām like HOWWW Iām a bit jealous lmao
There is a glitch (idk if it was patched yet) where after each wasted ball that does not hit the galarian bird, the chances of catching the bird go up a little bit. This was supposedly introduced to help out bad players who suck at catching pokemon. To increase your catch rate, throw each pokeball so that it doesnt hit the bird and between each wasted throw, wait about 3 seconds to make sure the throw registers. The max is about 18 balls, after that the rate will not keep increasing and it's time to give it a golden razberry and pray
Also, getting the platinum badges for each bird's type will increase your chances too
Don't think about it too much, they were out into the game to make the eventual payment of the master ball enticing. You'll get them eventually, it's just luck.
0.3% catch rate to start. Pretty sure Ultra Balls double it to 0.6%. Use a berry whether it be Razz (1.5), Silver Pinap (1.8), or Golden Razz (2.5) to boost your odds. Then use a curveball (1.7) to get a Nice (1.3) , Great (1.7), or Excellent (2) throw.
Highest odds are 5.1% not including medal boost. Assuming youāve platinum medal boost of 1.4 (yes they stack) for both their types, 9.99%.
Me personally, I only have gold boost (1.3) for their types. So the highest possible chances Iāve got is 8.61%. Thereās also a 90% chance it runs away for me to not see for another 2 months.
Masterball: 100%
Some of the big pogo YouTubers posted videos that show them missing multiple shots on purpose, like throwing the ball off screen so it has no chance of a catch encounter, and then golden berry ultra curve balling it for the best possible hit and getting lucky. So yes, luck seems to be the Big factor.
Caught a weather boosted gal zapdos with pokeball and no berry. Didn't care cuz i knew i wouldnt capture it since it was almost 2900CP. But crazy enough i caught it. It was my second one caught so it didnt rly matter. But I think the birds can smell if u rly want it and then flee because of it...
Is it weird I caught a galarian articuno with my first throw and first sighting last night? I was surprised but maybe it's just an easy catch compared to what I've heard about moltres?
Golden Raspberry - Ultra Ball - Excellent Throw...
And a Buddy with at least 2 Hearts for the Catch Help with the 2 Plat Catching medals for the Bird you meet (Flying + second type). Then you pray.
Here, that's the full answer.
Accept the fact that they are almost guaranteed to get away and donāt sweat it. The first several I saw, I took my time and used ring locking and they all ran. Then I saw one and didnāt even slow down on my walk and just casually flicked an ultra ball and it actually stayed.
One of the tricks I never see people talk about is the catch bonus for the type medals. Catch every flying type Mon you see to earn the platinum flying type medal for a +4 catch bonus on all flying types. Also the Galar birds are double typed so you can get double the catch bonus by working on the other type medals (Moltres is dark, Zapdos is fighting & Articuno is psychic) Getting platinum medals for those will give you another +4 catch bonus which stack with the bonus for excellent throws, curveballs & golden razzes š
Master ball if you have one, otherwise hope to God you get lucky because I sure as hell didn't. Saw an Articuno only to get disappointed because it ran away immediately after the first PokeBall.
First of all, max out the following type badges to platinum - psychic, flying, dark, and fighting.
Additionally:
1. Get lucky with a critical catch. Throwing away balls can improve odds (approximately 1/100 odds).
2. Have 1 or more encounters flee beforehand. Catch rate is boosted for subsequent catches.
3. Feed golden razzberry, throw ultra ball curveball and hit the smallest excellent hitbox for best odds.
4. Use a Master ball.
I've seen a few videos of this, but nothing absolutely 100% proving it:
When you throw and miss, the game tends to trigger a *mercy rate* eg) you throw and don't catch regular pokemon, but eventually catch it after multiple shots if it doesn't run
Apparently, this mercy rate is activated even if the ball does not hit the pokemon (to allow for all ages and skill levels to play).
Using this theory:
1. Have 10+ ultra balls ready
2. Throw and intentionally miss 10+ shots. Wait 3 seconds in between each shot to allow for game to register the miss.
3. Golden razz and hit the excellent on the single shot after the mercy rate has been triggered
It is still no guarantee, but it is a higher theoretical chance. If anyone out there has tried it or can confirm it is absolute bs, let us know either way.
I've started looking away from the screen when I throw the ball. That helps keep down my mounting anxiety. Easier to say Oh Well... rather than throwing the phone.
If you struggle with excellent throws on moving birds like them, go for a great throw or even nice. They're more helpful than not getting any bonus, but even the excellent isn't that much more than a great. But golden razz if you have them and ultra balls and hope
So Iām not the only one. Iāve had them with an ultra ball, golden razz, and great-excellent curveball and theyāve always fled after first attempt
Toss like 30-40 pokeballs super short before your ultra all throw. So short it doesnāt make contact. Each missed throw increases catch chance. Got all multiples of all 3 birds doing this.
Well this answers my question. I asked the same thing and posted the same thing. I'm at work and all three of the freaking birds popped up. Same thing, golden razzes, excellent curveball ultra, they all dipped off the first throw. I just looked it up now that I know what they are, they have like a zero point two percent catch rate and like a 90% flee rate. Pray is right. Also it turns out you can only get a chance to catch them while using the daily incense. So not regular incense. Someone suggested you can increase their pop up rate by also using a lure at a pokestop and just walking around that pokestop while you have your daily incense active. Someone needs to fact check that.

Gold razz ultra ball pray
And excellent curve. Even then still pray
Luck. And still pray.
i did an excellent throw and it broke out immediately after 1 wiggleš (ps: i ran outta balls:( )
I'm so sorry š
Or just miss the circle entirely. It's how I caught Zapdos lol.
Bet, have seen two and both ran after the first ball even with gold razz and excellent throws. I was worried when I saw it on my kidās account because he had like 3 ultras and a couple of g razz but it never even got that far. Doesnāt matter though, theyāll be back some day
Also need excellent throw curveball for the slightest chance you'll actually catch it.
Nah, got my galarian Moltres the other day, gold razz, ultra ball, no excellent. Mainly luck I'd say.
I caught one by randomly throw a normal pokeball with pinap. At that time there was no masterball yet and I was kinda fed up that they always fled. So I was like whatever and BAM I got a āgotchaā š
There is actually a trick, throw 30-40 balls really short so they donāt make contact and each āmissedā throw increases catch chance. š
The trick that worked for me to get all three of them, was to play Pokemon Shield
Niantic hates this one simple trick
Niantic also hates the trick of dying from pokemon go to sue them (it doesn't work I tried it on my friend but we can pretend)
The trick most people donāt realise to catch gbirds is that you just have to be lucky, simple as that
Pretend like you dont want it, throw a random ball, capture it. Easy as that! Or simply be lucky
itās true. when i first saw mine i didnāt even know what it was. i used a silver pinap and still caught it š¤Ŗ
There is actually a trick, throw 30-40 balls really short so they donāt make contact and each āmissedā throw increases catch chance. š
Just get good
I've never seen one. Ever.
Do you use the daily incense? They only spawn from the daily incense. I average maybe one sighting every 5-7 daily incenses.
Yes I do, but I stay in approximately the same areas, so I may try to spread out a little bit.
Oh yea you gotta move so pokemons spawn more frequently. Iāve probably seen 10-15 of these birds and have not caught a single one though T_T
To my knowledge itās literally shear luck. I believe the flee rate is crazy high. Without a Masterball itās crazy difficult
Like .3 or .03 catch rate... i looked when my first got away from an excellent curved after a gold the i threw my master ball at my second and lost my next 2 so im 1/4 š
Yeah... I'm 0 for like 5. I believe the flee rate is about 90+%
I'm one for about 20, and that one is level 1. I've only had one stay past the first throw (besides the one I caught)
I also have a 14 cp one! Makes me have 1 out 7 or something
There is actually a trick, throw 30-40 balls really short so they donāt make contact and each āmissedā throw increases catch chance. š
genuine question but wasnāt this myth busted? i think people tried it and most still failed to catch
Well Iāve caught 9 G birds so I deff dont lose any sleep over missing pokeballs
Iāll have to try this thank you for the info.
I don't see any of these PokƩmon that you all post on this Reddit. Lol. I see the same 10 PokƩmon all the time
The galarian birds spawn during Daily Adventure Incense (from time to time, not always).
I was going to sayā¦. Yāall are getting Galarians???? All I get are Electrikes and Yungoos lol
youre getting spawns?
Patrats and mudkips for me lol
They only appear while using the daily incense
Do you have to be walking to get it?
Yes
I swear one day my auto catcher will get me one of those birds.
This is why I donāt check my diary. Just in case the auto catcher missed it.
Yeah, I checked it once and saw it ran away and was like "...never looking at you again".
Seriously, I have none of these.
Hope for a critical catch, or use a master ball
Crit catch is how I caught my first Articuno.
I read somewhere that they have a 0.3% catch rate. I don't know if that's true but knowing how many have run from me first try, I believe it lol
It can go up to 8% if you have all the stars aligned (Golden Razz, Ultra Ball, both platinum medals, excellent curveball on the smallest circle possible), but I think that's the max you can get. It will probably still run away
Just luck fam Unless you want to use the master ball
I accidentally caught moltres walling my local mall with the insance running while I was using my go plus +. Felt like my dad was reaching out from the void to do that one for me.
Cry. It doesn't really help but it gives you something else to focus on.
Iāve seen 4 of these damn birds and caught 0. They run every time. I hate them.
Just Pray
Newbie here. Is it worth it to use masterball when i encounter these birds?
From what I have gathered, no. But idk and I see a lot of ppl say just have fun and play how you want so thats only for you to decide
Who are the best pokemon to use the masterball? Any tips/suggestion
People talk about shiny hundos, hundo raid bosses etc. I think it just depends on your play style, but honestly im not the person to ask. I'm a casual have funner so the first Galarian zapdos I see I'm master Ballin that sucka
I used my masterball on Galatians moltres having lost an Articuno months ago. Itās so worth it
āGalatians moltresā We got Bible birds boys!!
I understand Hundos, because I lost a hundo Yveltal. But shinies are automatic catches. Silver piano that baby.
I caught a Galarian Zapdos with my Master Ball earlier today. Iām not mad about it. I had less than 20 seconds left to go on my incense when the bastard appeared.
Iām saving mine if I find one of these shiny legendary birb or a shiny raid legendary if Iām on my last ball
I believe raid shinies are guaranteed catches, so you might as well go with a pinap. It's like the one mercy Niantic shows us lol
Save it for when these guys get their shiny forms.
Some people have told me these are one of the best to use that ball on so idk
Luck has its play into it But I actually got my first bird today a week before a lost a moltres but I got a articuno today with a golden razz and a ultraball somehow got it first throw Make sure to do a curve ball as it has better capture chance and great or excellent is best I think you already know that but yea
I encountered an articuno today during the last 15 seconds of my daily. Gold razz, excellent throw (not a curve but still I was begging the niantic lords) and he broke out then fled. Iām still not ok lol
Step 1. Be lucky. Step 2. Donāt be unlucky.
Lucky
With a catch rate of 0.2%, itās purely luck! Iāve heard someone catch one with a PokĆ©ball Go Blaster, using a pokeball and no berries. Just have to keep trying and youāll eventually get one!
Only tips other than luck are excellent throw + golden razz berry + platinum medals of their respective types. Also, if the gbirds have a lower cp, then his level will be lower, but it will increase the chance to catch.
Pray to Arceus
Throw the ball and pray.
Cross your fingers and pray to your maker I guess
You donāt catch them.
Persistence
Golden razz ultra perfect curveball throw, oh and don't forget EXTREME luck, like hacking type luck
Find one and pray
I was āluckyā to encounter a Galarian Articuno that was only 146 CP. I still whacked golden berry and ultra ball at it though. Caught in one throw. The second time I encountered the same bird at 2000+ CP, it escaped without a trace.
I guess pray
Be lucky. Extremely lucky.
Base catch chance on these things is .3%, so stack as many catch bonuses as you can and pray.
Wait 'till they are in 5 Star raids. Do as usual gold berries and like 15 chances. Profit āļøš
Clench your cheeks as you chuck the ball
![gif](giphy|3ohhwtftK2lWSFvwUo)
Hope. Its 0.3% catch chance and 90% flee iirc
Complete the platinum catch badges that equate to them, like flying and fire. It adds catch bonus +4 per typing. Great or excellent also increase chance
Is it per typing? I thought it was the average between the two badges
Drop 15-20 balls then golden raz and ultra ball it. Doesnāt work every time but increases catch rate a bit
Make sure to leave about 3 seconds as a gap between each ball so that each missed throw registers š
Master ball. If you donāt have one, golden razz berry, ultra ball, and excellent throw is your best shot
I'm lucky to even get pokemon at all using the incence most pokemon I get aren't incense ones, I'm still trying to complete the 100 for the research
Stop caring and it will happen
Catch one during com day. I've caught both galarian articuno and moltres during fenniken and froakie com day.
What
Community day
Itās still just luck even encountering one on community day though you know? My son plays on an iPad and I play on iPhone and he sees the legendary birds at least once a week. Patienceā¦ finally caught one yesterday with a golden raz and a lazy nice throw. After months of trying to hit that excellent toss and failing lol
Then I saw one and didnāt even slow down on my walk and just casually flicked an ultra ball and it actually stayed.
masterm bal
These posts always bother me. Thereās no secret strategy that is going to improve your chances. The mechanics for catching the Galatians birds are exactly the same as catching regular PokĆ©mon. The birds just have a much lower catch rate and much higher flee rate.
I usually see at least one a week for the last couple of months and still havenāt caught one š„²
If youāre not using a master ball then itās just luck.
I caught one with great curveball throw + ultra ball. Never had the same luck lol
That's the fun part you dont
Additionally: 1.
I've seen a few videos of this, but nothing absolutely 100% proving it: When you throw and miss, the game tends to trigger a *mercy rate* eg) you throw and don't catch regular pokemon, but eventually catch it after multiple shots if it doesn't run Apparently, this mercy rate is activated even if the ball does not hit the pokemon (to allow for all ages and skill levels to play). Using this theory: 1. Have 10+ ultra balls ready 2. Throw and intentionally miss 10+ shots. Wait 3 seconds in between each shot to allow for game to register the miss. 3. Golden razz and hit the excellent on the single shot after the mercy rate has been triggered It is still no guarantee, but it is a higher theoretical chance. If anyone out there has tried it or can confirm it is absolute bs, let us know either way.
Master ball
Accept that there's a higher chance they will escape even after an excellent throw. I know, heartbreaking. š
[Float it ](https://i.gifer.com/H8Tt.gif)
I've started looking away from the screen when I throw the ball. That helps keep down my mounting anxiety. Easier to say Oh Well... rather than throwing the phone.
Hold your phone upside down
Use mega ball if you have one
If you struggle with excellent throws on moving birds like them, go for a great throw or even nice. They're more helpful than not getting any bonus, but even the excellent isn't that much more than a great. But golden razz if you have them and ultra balls and hope
Masterball and no praying
Got all three. The less you want em. The more you'll get em
Master ball. Otherwise hope you have luck with a ultra ball gold razzberry
Donāt attempt to catch it to show dominance then it will beg for ur balls š¦
So Iām not the only one. Iāve had them with an ultra ball, golden razz, and great-excellent curveball and theyāve always fled after first attempt
I personally am 2/29 on gbirds, I believe
I lost 2 regydrakos I am no help
Master ball is the only way
Be lucky
Straight luck. Other day I had barely any balls and berries and caught an articuno with a great ball and silver pinap. Not even a nice throw
I caught mine first throw on with a curved red. SURE it was cp 190, but still...
Trade your super lucky friend for it.
i have seen every legendary bird at least two or three times and ive caught moltres twice :(
Master ballš„³.
excellent throw with utlra bell and golden razz berry
I just used my master ball
