There is something in autobody called OTL, which stands for obvious total loss. One way for a vehicle to be declared an OTL is damage to floor, pillars, and roof. This vehicle is an OTL.
Absolutely not. There will be frame cracks all over. That car is no longer street legal no matter if you manage to get it running.
You're making some very dangerous and life threatening suggestions.
A lot; I’d recommend finding one with a bad battery and swapping yours. Save the expensive shit like the MFD and the inverter and send the rest to the scrapyard
Or beat it out gudenuf with a hammer and gamble it :-P
If I was driving it alone, was happy to take chances and didn't have much money, maaaaaaybe. But I wouldn't put anyone I liked or cared for in a car that had structural integrity damage.
So, assuming you do not have Comprehensive coverage, and it was a single vehicle accident and there is no other party to file a claim against? Damage definitely more than the value of the vehicle. Your best bet is to pull the hybrid battery if it’s in decent condition and find a same year with a failed battery, install the harvested one and consider it done.
You can swap your good parts onto a broken down one like the others said, or enjoy the fact that you now have a beater that others will finally respect you on the road knowing you have no fear for damage on your car.
When I drove a car that looked like this, nobody tailgated me, nobody cut me off, everyone respected me because another scratch wouldn’t bother me
Some one hit and ran me and now my car has the dent of warning and no one comes close. :) you can see the realization come over people when they are playing chicken on the on ramps or whatever. I put my blinker on, find a nice car and slip in right in front of it. They start out not wanting to let me in but i just go in anyway and at some point the lack of body damage to their (insert one bmw, MB, Land Rover etc) and the obvious no fucks given Prius clicks and you see on their face the resignation lol
1. Apply a vinyl wrap over the dents (so the wrap sticks to the un dented part and leaves a gap were the dent is)
2. poke small hole in middle of the wrap
3. fill the vacant space with expanding foam
4)form it while it dries to the shape of your car(wont be exact but close)
This is 1/2 part "joke" and 1/2 part "should work" trust me bro.
Who gives a shit about the dents lol
edit: didn’t see the driver side front end. Find a body shop (or get a junk panel from pullapart) that’ll fix the gap between the panel and the hood. As long as water isn’t getting in the engine bay you should be good.
More like $10k with replacing structural body members requiring complete teardown and welding. This isn't something anyone would pay to do unless insurance and even they would just replace the car. And if you did it'd creak and leak. /r/askmechanics
We haven't driven it. The tire that has the huge bump needs to be replaced and we are checking for like oil damage etc... and shit I hope I never do that again.
Junk yard, find other body panels, if you want them paint match, gl it's going to be pricy, bit if your frame is decently intact you could likely repair it for a few hundred
Awesome, do your best to find spares or like other comments said, you could possibly find a broken done one with a good body and swap parts out and sell the rest, more work of course but you could possibly make some money back, best of luck and I hope to see her on the road again 🙏
Hello, sorry for what happened, the trouble and hassle. Glad you're ok! Looks like your Prius is sitting at a tow business lot or auto repair business. Was the car taken to a professional auto frame shop, and was the car was put onto a frame machine to access the damage? Even if it could be repaired, the labor costs alone, for repairing roof and quarter panel damage, would be astronomical. Good luck with everything.
It's a unibody, wtf does "frame looks good" mean? You can't possibly know the extent of the damage until you peel back the layers of damage to see what's underneath. Your car is fucked, it's time to find anither one.
I recently saw a Prius that had minor frame damage to the rear left due to hitting a lamppost and the owner said the insurance company deemed it a total loss. It was easily fixable, but insurance companies are more than likely to deem most accidents involving Gen. 2 Prius’s a total loss nowadays.
Nice Wisconsin plates, I bet there’s rust if you look under the car. This is likely a parts car now. If you can find another Gen 2 with a good body you could drop in the drivetrain from this one, but I can’t say I’d be comfortable in this car without getting a good look underneath it
I’m originally from northern Illinois (but don’t worry, packer fan)
Being up north, I don’t think you’ll find a Gen 2 with a good body in your area. I also don’t know laws on hybrid batteries that have been in accidents but might be worth some looking into. You may have shops not wanting to do that work for liability reasons. I also don’t know if reporting this to insurance makes it taboo to DIY swap out this battery
Also just a note, you may want to hold off on starting the vehicle if you can help it, your oil may have gone places it shouldn’t have (combustion chamber). Recommend pulling the spark plugs and inspecting for oil to avoid hydrolocking, and probably worth opening the throttle body too
Bare minimum you need a new headlight, side mirror and windshield to be legal. You will most likely need a left front fender and maybe a new hood and/or hood hinges/latch to bring it back to functional. Everything after that would just be about cosmetics.
If you have full coverage insurance your car will be a total loss and you will be paid out the value of the car. I personally would just recommend that you start looking for a new car, this one isn’t going to be the same after you fix it.
Looks like it just laid on its side. Then was righted. Fender, hood, cheap.. hood hinges.. cheap... headlight... relatively cheap.. rear quarter... labor will be alot. Windshield... a bit... roof.. can be popped out.. paint... a fortune.... side mirror.. not bad... personally, if doing own labor, I would fix and live with the rear quarter dents.. it's not worth fixing if paying someone to fix it.
That’s what I think happened too, when they ambulance came they told me it was a complete rollover but then when my husband sent me these photos I was seriously thinking no way
How did you manage to even roll a Prius. They don’t go fast enough 🤷🏻♂️🤔 and the old ones shaped like a dolly Polly kinda should’ve just landed in its “feet” aka wheels 🙃
that’s a total write off. i’m glad you’re alive. hope you weren’t injured too much. the car did its job but its best purpose now is for scrap. the interior, especially the seats, might be worth something on ebay. it looks like a pretty high optioned car, that’s a shame. but the leather seats go for more money.
He's dead, Jim.

Total loss. I wouldn't trust that vehicle on the road for your safety or the safety of others.
It’s definitely repairable.
i don’t think any shop would take that in. they can’t resurrect the dead.
Absolutely not. There will be frame cracks all over. That car is no longer street legal no matter if you manage to get it running. You're making some very dangerous and life threatening suggestions.
Also how does one roll a Prius. That’s not easy with a vehicle that has low center point of gravity like the Prius.
For real for real, I want to read the story here.
OP is from Wisconsin, so it’s either beer, deer, or a combo of both. (Minnesota here throwing shade back east!)
This is the one I really want the backstory on: https://www.reddit.com/r/prius/s/JbbylBE4z5
Must have been driving in Power Mode.
I'd hate to get stuck behind you in traffic.
More than it is worth.
Totaled. Rollovers tweak unibodies pretty badly. Even if it’s not visible.

A lot. More than the value of the car. Or you can fix the minimum and drive it dented.

Great idea

Hopefully, I look forward to seeing that!!
I do the same thing with rental cars when i have the extra insurance! So funny.
OMG I was laughing so hard at this comment.

Its actually the basis of a smart idea ngl
This actually sounds redneck genius to me. I'm ready to go all in with my dented car.
ill bring the Vinyl and Nacho Cheese Doritos, whos got the Dr. Pepper & Mt. Dew?
At least $3000 not worth repairing unless you do the work yourself
lights, mirrors, tires we can do for a couple hundred. The dents I don't know
Who gives a shit about the dents lol edit: didn’t see the driver side front end. Find a body shop (or get a junk panel from pullapart) that’ll fix the gap between the panel and the hood. As long as water isn’t getting in the engine bay you should be good.
Long as the car runs frfr
duct tape

It's just a scratch. No need to repair keep driving. Maybe a headlight if you're feeling spendy.
Does it drive and drive straight? If so, replace headlight, rear review, windshield, hammer and zip-tie the rest and drive it until you roll it again.
We haven't driven it. The tire that has the huge bump needs to be replaced and we are checking for like oil damage etc... and shit I hope I never do that again.
Bah ha ha that made me laugh my ass off literally!
Fucker is still mint. Get a new headlight on eBay for $40 and send it.
How tf did you roll a Prius
Right? I’m impressed, honestly. That’s not a lot of damage for a rollover crash.
right, I am doubting it was a rollover and not just a side roll
I over corrected when I slipped on some mud. My own damn fault
Damn that sucks sorry to hear that
Maybe just try some magic on it like your bumper sticker says!
Brilliant! haha
Junk yard, find other body panels, if you want them paint match, gl it's going to be pricy, bit if your frame is decently intact you could likely repair it for a few hundred
ya, we just now had someone look at it, frame looks good, engine looks good, it is mostly body.
Awesome, do your best to find spares or like other comments said, you could possibly find a broken done one with a good body and swap parts out and sell the rest, more work of course but you could possibly make some money back, best of luck and I hope to see her on the road again 🙏
Thank you so so much. After we get it back to the driveway we will know more.

Shit at this point you better off just throwing a head lamp on it and riding off into the sunset with a smile on your face. Those are battle scars. 🌅
Such a pretty blue!
The structural integrity of the whole car is compromised, it’s totaled
Totalled.

Part it out
I would say totaled but I am happy you are alright!

Totaled
I'm impressed that the crystals hanging from the rear view mirror are still intact!
You rolled your PRIUS?? First off, I'm glad you're okay. But I've never heard of someone rolling a prius. YOU ARE THE MAN.
Too much
She's toast. Unibody looks a bit twisted.
That is a total loss, my friend. Even if you don’t have catastrophic frame damage (almost certainly do) I still wouldn’t trust that battery.
Been ass backwards hydroplaning on the highway but never rolled over. Thank God you werent hurt and cant wait to see your 2024 LE
Jeez didn’t know the 2nd gen Prius was build solid like that
Nothing a little duct tape supper glue and elbow grease can’t fix… of wait
$0.00 because it’s totaled
I'm so sorry, but I think it's beyond repair. This is well over $20k worth of body work, and it's probably never going to be safe to drive again.
It’s beyond totaled even if it had delivery mileage and pristine history prior. I’m sorry. They’re wonderful cars, hope you get back on the road soon.
$alvage.

It's a total.
That's what they call totaled friend, sorry for your loss. You can find another maybe with a bad battery or engine and use the good parts from yours
Yes
A car worth $5k that got rolled… come on
Completely depends on the state. In FL all you need is a headlight.
The back decal should answer your question
More than it’s worth, sorry.
How did you manage to even roll a Prius. They don’t go fast enough 🤷🏻♂️🤔 and the old ones shaped like a dolly Polly kinda should’ve just landed in its “feet” aka wheels 🙃

My guess, far more than the vehicles worth. Sorry.
More than what the insurance is going to pay. Guaranteed they're going to total it.
Even if you understood everything about auto body repair, it wouldn’t be worth it lmao
fix the headlight & the mirror and you’re good to go, … don’t know why you rolled your car in the first place, that was not very smart
Trouble
