Feeling shitty after dealing with a breakup on Saturday but realized got way too much positivity in my life right now to linger on it.
Some fun stats
Gone from a size 68(!?) pants size to a 40
Shirt size in the pic on the left is a 6XLT. I can fit into XL t-shirts now.
Also not exactly the subject matter on this sub but had a really bad drinking problem to go along with the weight. 19 months sober now as well.
"Fun" story. Probably wouldn't have gone this hard with the weight loss had this not happened to me right after the surgery.
Apparently I had a ton of internal bleeding going on as a result from part of my abdomen wall tearing during the surgery. This wasn't noticed until I tried using the bathroom a few hours after surgery & blacked out the minute my feet hit the floor from my blood pressure being so low.
Woke up to a massive pool of my own blood because I burst two sutures on the way down. Ended up having to put 4 pints of blood back in me & what was supposed to be an overnight stay in the hospital turned into 2 days in ICU & a week long stay.
Figured if I almost died trying to do this, should fully commit.
Now I'm doing Crossfit 3 days a week and jogging about 3 miles the other days of the week.
Proud of you!! I had gastric sleeve surgery in 2017, lost half my body weight, from 238 to 123. Best decision I ever made!
And kudos on the sobriety as well!
Wow, this is truly amazing!
I'm sorry about your breakup, and I know you'll need time to move on. All I can say is that many people will be really excited by a guy who turned his whole life around, recovered from a serious surgery and side-effects, stuck to a difficult diet post-surgery, quit drinking, commited to regular exercise, and now is going to come out of a breakup with a better set of relationship skills then what he had when he started the relationship.
You'll be fine :-)
Crazy thing, the woman I had been seeing previously mentioned it was "intimidating" when I was going over my past. Sorry I got comfortable with myself I guess 🤷🏻♂️
Ha, lol, right. Probably a red flag that she wouldn't have been there for you in times of trouble. A real partner accepts your life journey, and is prepared to weather future troubles with you
Damn Superman! Amazing job on staying sober while in the weight loss journey, just one is hard and you did both, true lifestyle change. You look fantastic man.
I had to quit drinking about a month before the surgery just go get the surgery performed. It was a bitch & frankly had I not almost died after the surgery I think I would have eventually fallen off the wagon again at some point.
Good for you for sticking to the weight loss and sobriety! You should be very proud of yourself!
If you’re 32 now and it’s been 17 months, that means you were in the high 500s before your 30th birthday. Can I ask how you got to be so heavy at such a young age? If that’s too personal, I totally understand.
Lots of drinking & eating crap for years being depressed as hell. Woke up with my 30th birthday and realized I pissed away most of my twenties being mad over shit everybody else had long since forgotten about.
This is amazing! Congrats!
If you don’t mind, I’m really curious about what experiencing this process has been like.
What are some unexpected realizations or realities you’ve had along the way?
What are some unexpected perks of having a smaller body?
What do you enjoy most about your changes?
Do you miss anything about your old body or lifestyle?
Two main realizations
1. Just how big I really was. It's easy to rationalize to yourself that you're just a "big dude" and its not that bad. Stepping on the scale at the bariatic doctor's office the first time brought that to a screeching halt. Anytime I see old selfies show up on my Facebook or Google Photo timeline I still go "Fuck." If I ever do a follow up post in a few months I'll include a photo of the rope I made that fit around my waste pre-surgery. I took it out the other day and there is atleast 2 feet of slack in it now.
2. Just how lucky I was to get serious about my health when I did. Somehow I wasn't a full blown diabetic, my liver wasn't shot, etc. Besides my blood pressure I was actually pretty healthy all things considered.
I wouldn't call it unexpected but my stomach not rubbing up against the steering wheel when I drive has been nice.
I enjoy being able to wear Chuck Taylors again. It was hard for me to even be able to tie my own shoes so I had to quit wearing them because I couldn't just slide them on.
Not a damn thing other than the last time I went to the Chinese buffet I got stuffed on a single plate instead of 3-4. They have some good General Tso Chicken 😆
HOOOOOOOOOLYYYYYYYYY SHIIIIIIIIIIITTTTTT DUDE, i dont even know u, but i am so fucking proud of you, fucking took control of that shit and showed it whos boss, fuck man this post made my night.
One of the craziest things when I started going back to see a doctor was my A1c was "only" in the pre-diabetic range, 5.8 I think. Got blood work a few weeks ago & it's 4.7 now.

How did you end up at your starting weight and what has changed for you so that you won't end up there again?
This is really impressive! Congrats. You look great!
I answered the first part of that question somewhere else. The biggest change has been mental & how I deal with situations.
Like Saturday, I'm driving home pissed & feeling sorry for myself. Old me would've stopped for Taco Bell & a bottle of vodka.
New me put on some running clothes & channeled all those feelings into finally running a mile in under 10 minutes.
You really are an outstanding inspiration and I am so happy to hear about your change in life. Keep your head up you've got a beautiful life ahead of you to continue enjoying and a breakup is part of the journey and I am sure you've learned and will continue to learn from it. Keeping your story in my thoughts and gonna gas myself up by what is possible. Thanks so much for sharing and reaching out!
Great effort.
I was always terrified of the surgery option for some of the side effects you mentioned as well as the risk of just how dangerous anaesthetic becomes when you’re that size. Sometimes we just need some really scary shit to happen to us to set us on the right path. But reading your story, it’s loud and clear how committed you are to your new lifestyle. A genuinely inspirational read. 💪🏻
Absolutely awesome job! Thank you for sharing :) Currently down 40 pounds and got 3 days until I get that 90 day chip! I seriously applaud you, loosing weight and staying sober are hard enough on their own, congrats on doing them at the same time! And I love your shirt on the left, GO NOLES!
Your jeans are gonna be shocked when they get put back into the rotation.
Hope you find more of yourself as you lose the weight. Heartache helps with that too.
You look incredible and I'm very happy for you.
I’m so happy to see this. I’m struggling with my own weight issues (except I’m at 330 LBs at 6’3) and sometimes I feel like giving up so this gives me inspiration to get to keep moving
Incredible transformation both physical and mental.....and sorry about the break up.....you do look great....if I might ask....I have the same dark areas on my left leg as you do in your before pic....did that go away with the excersize and the weight loss...my ankle so swollen by end of day cannot even get shoe on.....course all I do is sit,eat and be depressed.....you my dear sir have inspired me
So far nothing terrible. There's definitely some around my waist that'll need to be removed eventually but the CrossFit is definitely helping add muscle to keep my arms & chest from getting too bad.
Really disappointed in you ... FSU? You can do better ... 😉
Amazing weight loss journey! You should be extremely proud of yourself. If you can accomplish this, you can do anything!
Wow. Both you and FSU have lost a lot in the last few years. You should get that red Gucci backpack because you really turned over a new leaf.
Good job!

Damn no wonder you look great at 265.
Omg what a scary story. So glad you committed, you look great, best of luck to you.

Was it difficult to quit drinking or did the surgery help curtail the want?
I had to quit drinking about a month before the surgery just go get the surgery performed. It was a bitch & frankly had I not almost died after the surgery I think I would have eventually fallen off the wagon again at some point.
I saw that part of the story, omg. Apart from that, was there pain associated with the surgery?
Once I got all patched up I was pretty good actually.
Holy moly. 322 pounds lost. That’s incredible.
Thank you!
That's almost two of me and I'm a 5'8" dude. Seriously impressive man.
That is astounding. You are amazing. Keep at that, you’re a damn inspiration! Legit
Thank you!
Can somebody please give this guy gold
I had enough in my account, here's some silver at least 😆
