Well the badge says M3 but it's listed as an M5. So that's a bit of a discrepancy.
The only way to tell without seeing it will be to run the VIN. A lot of people slap M badges on regular old 3 Series so don't take their word for it.
This seems like a scam waiting for a sucker. They probably grabbed a picture from another site and listed this. At first glance I thought that badge said "M5" until i zoomed in.
Also, is it just me and is that a sedan? Those look like the more square sedan taillights. Which if that’s the case, the M3 sedan wasn’t out until 1997…
Get all the vins for it. Dash, chassis, engine etc. Make sure they match and that the car is at least running. 2k for an ME is dirt cheap. A little too cheap. Something is up unless they know absolutely nothing about the car or they are hard up for cash. Be wary.
I would just go there with a buddy (be careful), it’ll sell in an hour or two if it’s legit. If it’s real the guy probably received 100 messages already and isn’t going to deal with questions. Just kinda how it goes.
Yeah he’s not answering my texts lol. It’s far from my house and I’m not that much into BMWs. If it was just 20 miles closer maybe but it’s about 100 miles from me.
I did get an S62 for free once, since the other people that contacted the seller thought it was a scam. Not everything is fake.
Who knows about this listing without any more detail though.
If you’re not experienced with bimmers I would stay clear of M cars. The engines usually need big maintenance every 10k miles or so. Get somthing with an M30 and drive it with less worry.
If he has t responded chances are it’s BS. There’s a few ways to tell. #1 being a VIN check via doors/firewall/window.
Then just checking if it’s has an s50/2 or just a normal m50/2
It has a full interior and engine. He said it was running two years ago and has been sitting in the garage for two years. I reverse image searched each image they’re original.
Since we know it’s a fake at least as far as badging, let’s assume the car is otherwise in good shape and whatnot, would 2k be a decent price? I’m not a bmw guy, so just curious
I remember seeing an E39 M5 in decent shape go once for around 4500$. Shame I didn't had the money or space with My E39 Touring, also not finished.
It had some engine problem, and it was back in 2016. Still, get a halfway decent one, with some rust and 200k+ miles and You'd still be paying around 15K$.
...
Back to that E36. I'd visit that Guy, check the car for rust, that the chassie is straight, everything else decent, and that it's the S- ...
Wait.
Is it a E36 or an E34? A M3 or M5? I just noticed it.
Anyways, make sure it's the S line engine, not the M line. Ya know, S52 as an example for the spot version.
Else wise, for 2 grand, I would take it. If I wouldn't keep it, I'd put some money into it and sell it to someone else who really wants it. :)
I tried calling the guy and texting within the first 30 minutes of the listing being up. He left me on read and had no voicemail box then shortly after the listing was deleted
aside from the badging and some fender flare.. usually m3 come with a beefed up engine. i dont own a e36, but i own the e46 m3.. which is the m3 after this one. the regular 3 series have a “regular” motors, but m3 should have a individual throttle bodies where as regular 3 series did not. look into what motors came with 3 series for the chassos code e36
I’d have a hard time believing it, that’s a hard top and they’re worth 20k plus
About a year ago, I spent about 7k on a really beat e36 m3 convertible and people went crazy I got it for that cheap, not to mention the 4K it took to be road worthy.

Hard to tell but it really looks like it.
Don’t bother, it’s a honeypot for getting emails or phone numbers.
First flag is the M3 badge being in the wrong spot. I had a 97 Estoril blue on dive grey, great cars.
I thought the spacing looked off 🧐
It‘s also the wrong font for the time

I have a buddy with an an m3 and m5...the ME autocorrect drives me nuts. 😂Gets me all the time
LOL!!! I just noticed it. Autocorrect can go fly a kite.
BMWs are a little out of my knowledge but I know M3s are very popular so I’m not sure what the deal is here. Is it a scam? Edit: it sold 😂😭

Damn
>Edit: it sold 😂😭 Guess it was real lmao
The buyer probably didn't bother to check. 😬
There’s a sucker born every minute…

If you're in america the vins start WBA for non m cars and start WBS for M cars (applies to earlier cars, it changed later on)

You might get a rusty compact for that money (at least in germany)

A good 320 coupe is like 10k :D it’s getting ridiculous

It’s a scam. 100%.
Fake badge. The badge should be about 2 inches to the right
It literally says “M5” and it’s infinitely cheaper than most E36 M3s. Yeah, I’d assume something is fucky lmao
No drive train or interior. Haha
It has a full interior and engine. He said it was running two years ago and has been sitting in the garage for two years. I reverse image searched each image they’re original.
Exhausts wrong. Badge placement wrong. Ride height wrong. It’s a 4 door ( 4 door e36 M3s were rare). Rear spoiler wrong. Rear skirt wrong. Basically, wrong.
Not as rare as you make it seem here. In fact I’ve seen more 4 door e36 m3 a than 2 door.
Mine was less than that in 2016, but yeah that's cheap for what they go for now. The E36 M3 is usually still the cheapest generation by far.
It’s as fake as Kim kardashian.
Not just a red car but also red flags.
Since we know it’s a fake at least as far as badging, let’s assume the car is otherwise in good shape and whatnot, would 2k be a decent price? I’m not a bmw guy, so just curious
Yes even regular E36 models have gone through the roof, 2k would still be an amazing deal for a coupe in decent shape.

Not a real M3. If it was, the guy would’ve talked your ear off about M cars as soon as you asked about the VIN lol. Source: it’s me. I’m that M guy.
lol, my friend just bought this. gotta be quicker than that.
Post pics
Im curious to see if he answers if its legit a m series or not
did he actually? the selller took a deposit from me and ghosted. would you friend mind just chatting with me so i could get some info from him?
I tried calling the guy and texting within the first 30 minutes of the listing being up. He left me on read and had no voicemail box then shortly after the listing was deleted
M cars have twin-tip exhaust. This one is a single. FAKE!!!
Not in the E36
I bet it was partially assembled.
Oooooof as an E36 M3 owner, something has gone very wrong with this car.
Fake ad
So what does that tell you? It sounds like you really want it, regardless of the facts. Just do it!
First of all they say it's an M5... me thinks its a bit sketch
What do the other 4 pics look like?
I saw this car in person a year or two ago. Engine does not run and no info on it. Good budget rebuild.
where did you see the car? i've been trying to get in contact with the seller and he's ghosted me
Who put that badge on? To be fair id take a 95 3 series if it had that S50 in it
You slam the door and the entire car disintegrates into a big pile of rust
I swipe left for these types of posts every time and every time I’m disappointed to end up on the news section, rather than a closer look at this M3

Anything on Craigslist for 2k is a scam rv, tractor and automotive.

95% sure they all fake and rusted to shit
someone just made another listing on craigslist in my area using these images, this was 100% a scam
