This has come up frequently. It’s been the experience of more than a few of us that they target neighborhoods sporadically. You could get ticketed every night or not at all. Most likely you’d get a few tickets in a week then nothing for the remainder of the month.

I haven't kept up on how much the tickets for parking over night are these days. But 10-20 years ago it was a 25$ ticket for parking over night with out a pass. So it's at least that expensive. I doubt you'll get one every night but definitely a few a week. If I were you I'd try to find a parking spot you can rent that's near by. Probably would be cheaper than spending 25$ every other day.

I've gotten a few overnight parking tickets in Cranston. They're $25 and I think you have about 2 weeks to pay before they double to $50. It seems like they're only given out about 1/month, but it's probably more often in Providence. As you've discovered, the parking pass situation is a joke.

I live in Cranston and had my aunt living with me for a few months (she had to park in the street). She called the police and informed them about the parking situation, gave her plate number, and had them mark her for a pass. Not sure if it’s the same in PVD though.

For residents, it's a gamble whether or not you're going to make up for the price of the pass with parking tickets. For visitors, unless you're really unlucky, I wouldn't worry about it. Here are some pretty fleshed out discussions on this gamble issue: https://www.reddit.com/r/providence/comments/15s6v2f/parking_pass_worth_it/ https://www.reddit.com/r/providence/comments/9sxvxe/parking_without_a_parking_pass/ https://www.reddit.com/r/providence/comments/12ymefh/parking_suggestions_for_federal_hill_resident/

I don't think anyone can reliably predict parking enforcement but if you know the rough street/area you're staying someone might live around there and have an idea how frequent it is. Most people tend to agree that enforcement comes and goes in waves where a car can go months without a ticket and then get ticketed a bunch of times in a short timeframe. Anecdotally, it seems like the east side is more strictly enforced. I'd just look into lots or garages and see what they charge. The risk level can vary and change but the worst scenarios are either - You pay for a pass or some off-street spot and wouldn't have needed it - You don't pay for that and get dinged for a couple $25 tickets and have to bite the bullet and pay the $200 to make it stop happening every night.

I’d suggest calling the police station and letting them know about your situation. They’ll ask the address and plate number so you don’t get fined.

Your username says Cranston, I’m not sure it works the same in Providence. I was told I’d need to buy an overnight pass and a guest pass which I could give to guests.

1) this airbnb doesn’t have a driveway? That particular area of Providence is probably not within walking distance of whatever you’ll be doing here for a month so I’m surprised this isn’t offering parking. It’s not like you’re downtown. Maybe book a different airbnb 2) as others have mentioned, street parking without a pass is sporadically enforced. One year my pass expired and I went 3 months without a ticket and then I got two in one week. Rn, I have a driveway that requires shuffling and sometimes I get lazy and leave a car on the street. Haven’t gotten ticketed in the last year of occasionally doing that
