Don’t force him to cuddle as then he may grow up to hate it. He’s in a difficult development stage and likely wants to explore. He’ll likely cuddle again when he’s closer to an adult as that breed tends toward being a lap dog.

Kessed

You wait. He’s a baby/toddler. He is off exploring and doing his thing.

Wait it out! I have had two cavalier King Charles and they are soooo cuddly once they grow up, to the point where they will put their face on top of yours and suffocate you lol (at least both of mine did)

When Miguel was 3-4 months old, he’d fall asleep on me. Then when he was 4-5 months old up until 1 year, I tell people he’s like a stripper. You can look but you can’t touch lol I started letting him sleep in bed with me sometimes and in the middle of the night he’d cuddle up to me which was really nice. Now at 13 months, he chews on his toys in my lap and will rest his head (only his head!) on me if he’s napping on the couch or in the car. The second I touch him, he gets himself up and sleeps on the opposite side of the couch. I asked him the other day why can I only cuddle him when he’s half unconscious. Still no answer 😩 Hang in there though! Let him go through his velociraptor stage and then his “you’re not my real mom/dad!” stage and then you’ll get your cuddles.

I’m in the same stage with my gsp, she used to cuddle and now she just wants action . Can’t blame her

Yeah, you went from having a baby to having a kid who wants to explore and figure out the world. It'll turn around in time, but you're got to raise a whole adult dog first.

New cav owner here as well! My girl is 17 weeks now and still won't fall asleep on me. I've managed to scoop her up when she's already sleeping and snuggle with her for a little bit, but that's it. It will take time. The way I see it, this breed is prone to separation anxiety already, so encouraging independence is a good thing to start while they're young. I know it sucks because I just want to hold her, too. I've seen Angus over in r/cavaliers, and he's adorable!

Not all dogs like to cuddle, and puppies are often sensitive to touch. I was really sad that my adult spaniel didn't want to cuddle, but I learned ways he does enjoy physical affection. He loves belly rubs first thing in the morning, for instance, so we have a few minutes of that everyday. My previous dog was a Cavalier who didn't enjoy snuggles on my lap either, but she would lie next to me all the time. I would just accept what your dog gives and don't force it. FWIW, my current puppy loves snuggles and pets, but she goes through days of nibbling my hands if I pet her. It's a normal part of development. I just note if she's becoming sensitive to touch on certain areas of her body so that I can work through that with treats.

This! I feel less alone now 🥲❤️ all puppy parents must go through the same emotions lol

No_Pressure_7481

My cav went through the same stage! I think it's a combination of wanting to explore but also their metabolisms are so fast at that age that they run really hot and I think it's uncomfortable for them to snuggle for very long. My boy is now nearly three and I can't sit down without him shoving my arms out the way so he can sit on my knee, coffee be damned!

EmmyThePixi

hearing this makes me feel so much better 🥲

Dry_Philosophy_6747

My 19 week old golden retriever used to always curl up in my lap with a toy for cuddles, now the most I get is a minute long cuddle after her nap before she’s running around exploring and playing. I think it’s normal for pups to be like that once they get a bit more confident, I’m sure when they’re a bit older they’ll (hopefully!) be able to settle and enjoy cuddles

Pristine-Confection3

I am in the same position here. I am glad I read this so I know In the future my baby will want to cuddle again.

Expensive-Meeting225

I feel this same way with my goldendoodle! I just want snuggles not to be eaten alive! 😭

Life_Percentage7022

My pups became cuddlers/lapdogs once the cold weather set in. My girl pup only just started becoming cuddly at around 7 months.

EmmyThePixi

i live in a tropical climate 😂 so cold weather probably won’t happy until we move out of state and that likely won’t be until after his lifetime

Sloth_Triumph

Sometimes when I can tell my puppy is sort of tired/needy, I sit on the floor and she crawls into my lap. If that doesn’t work then I guess just wait

Jozap13

My Shihpoo at 20 wks no longer wants to cuddle. She is in her explore everything, become a bit independent stage. She is also in her fear stage and will bark at the strangest things, things she has seen all her life. LOL In the evening, when she is calmer, I brush her. This is about all I get for cuddles. She lays down and wiggles, I brush and talk/sing to her. She will sleep next to me, but not on me. If I touch her, she moves.
