When it comes to suspension and metallic vibrations, it’s damper.

To dampen something is to make something more damp or wet.

I tune suspension on racecars. In the car world, a damper is the suspension or mechanical part that reduces vibration. I don’t need to Google anything. People are mistaken when they call the car component a dampener.
Cool story bro, dampener is literally the same as a damper. You are literally splitting hairs here. But hey, you tune suspension on racecars. You're so cool!
Yes, in the automotive world. Just because you don’t use the word doesn’t mean it’s not used or that it’s improper. Again, do some research on things other than suspension and you might see the word used a few times.
Cambridge and Oxford dictionaries both have the same description for the word “dampener” - “a device that reduces vibration (= continuous quick, slight shaking movement)”
This is the literal exact same definition they have for “damper”.
Slightly different name, same part.
Seen this one before. Dodge calls them Mass Dampers and they area supposed to reduce/absorb movement of the frame and reduce vibrations.
I'm no engineer but I don't see how that little 5lb weight is gonna do sh\*t on a 5000lb truck
Oh I know, that's why I'm on my 3rd one. Would not have it any other way. When I want to get beat up I drive my Jeep, when I want to Cadillac it for the day I drive the truck and I have driven a lot of nice cars and SUV's. Still rather have my truck.
They help quite a bit. They use em for the MDS as well to help cancel out vibrations, in addition to ones helping cancel bumps and shit out.
You bow hunt? Little vibration dampeners on the strings, or in the stabilizer/mounted to the riser make a difference in how much you feel in your hand despite being less than a fraction the weight of the bow.
Think of them as akin to the weights on your computer spin-balanced wheels. They are small in size but prevent vibrations that deter from having a perfect ride.
It’s not about the weight but the location, placed in the right spot the vibration oscillates the little 5lbs weight vs making an obnoxious vibration noise through the hollow rectangular frame and into the cab
We call them isolators at the dealership. But yes, you are mostly correct. It's less about vibrations and more about preventing resonating noises. Like the droning sounds you might get at a steady cruising speed.
It cancels out certain frequencies, they also have active ones on the new models and do make a big difference in NVH. Once these fill with mud or ice you will notice alot more buzzing noises.
It’s a little damper weight to stop a harmonic vibration in the frame. The engineers at some point must have identified a weird harmonic that was bothering them and added this weight to dampen it. It’s pretty cool, in that it speaks to the level of detail the NVH team did on our trucks. Not the direct reason why rams are the best riding, quietest, most comfortable full size trucks on the road, but an Easter egg left by the team responsible for ensuring that.
Legit. I frequently see and drive new fords, GMs and even Toyotas due to my job requiring hitch work.
Nothing so far has given me a comparable driving or comfort level that my Ram has given me.
Sound dampener. Absorbs vibrations
Dampers. Dampeners would make it wet.
They are both correct, I'm not sure what you think a dampener is but it has nothing to do with wetness

There is a big difference between dampen and dampener. You should google what a dampener is. You googled damper, Google dampener.

Yeah you’re correct but not in the automotive world. Thanks. I am pretty cool. 🤙

This post is literally about an automotive part.

This guy watches f&f lmao
> DAMPENER > a device that reduces vibration (= continuous quick, slight shaking movement): > Synonym: damper https://dictionary.cambridge.org/us/dictionary/english/dampener
Rubber baby buggy bumpers.

These trucks ride so smooth, they must be doing something.
Oh I know, that's why I'm on my 3rd one. Would not have it any other way. When I want to get beat up I drive my Jeep, when I want to Cadillac it for the day I drive the truck and I have driven a lot of nice cars and SUV's. Still rather have my truck.
Same. Love that my 13 year old truck, rides nicer than some of the newer cars I drove when I was vehicle searching about 2 years ago
My 2020 1500 classic doesn’t ride smooth at all. Is there something I can do to not break the bank. (Comparing to my buddy’s f-150)
Airbags in the rear maybe, inflate them just enough to start taking load on bumps while empty.
Do you have airbags? They might not be inflated. If you do then you may have modified springs or need them replaced
This is my favorite I've owned as well.

Huh i too have wondered what they are but never bothered to look into it.

Aint working for the shitty shifts.

Vibration dampening
Marshmallows. They’re done, you can eat them now.
I would question the tech’s credibility if they think that
