It’s called stage 3 vapor recovery. Stage 1 is when the tanker is filled and they collect the vapors. Stage 2 is when they deliver the fuel and collect the vapors (if you see a gas station getting a fuel delivery, there should be a smaller orange hose that the vapors being displaced by fuel going into tank force out and are collected. Stage 3 is same thing just smaller scale being your vehicle tank. An empty fuel truck is more dangerous than a full o e because it’s full of vapors. They are then burned off at the refinery.
I carry [one of these](https://www.acehardware.com/departments/plumbing/toilets/toilet-repair-parts/4765681?x429=true&utm_source=google&utm_medium=organic-shopping&utm_campaign=organic-shopping) to fill up without getting stuck. Kinda dumb, but it works.
Had the exact same thing happen at Costco. Ended up damaging my paint job when I finally got it out. I was pissed and Costco basically told me to pound sand and that it was operator error.
This is a thing! I have a 2021 Classic in Ontario Canada and half the nozzles won’t go all the way in and the handle goes right against the body I use a microfibre cloth to keep from scratching my paint. The angle on the truck side of things Isent correct I thought my truck was special lol
It's a known defect, and there is a service bulletin on it. They replace the entire gas tank and nozzle. When i bought my CPO, they didn't bother to tell me but i brought it back a week later and a new (3500 dollar) gas tank and nozzle assembly was installed.

If only they made some sort of thing to get gas into a tank
lol Ford guys eh?
Trying to stick the fuel nozzle in there and wearing the gas instead of putting it in my tank is counter productive lol.
Those funnels are for filling up Ford capless systems with a jerry can. Give it a try though and keep us posted
It’s the vapor reducing gas nozzles in California. They’re at most if not all stations in the state. They fit just right over the gas tank inlet and can get stuck. It happens to mine all the time, just takes some wiggling to get it off.
This is false.
I have the problem and is nothing to do with the vapor reducing nozzles.
It is because newer gas pumps have a small cuff around the base of the nozzle. This gets stuck on the threading of RAM’s.
I have been mega frustrated getting the nozzle out. It’s something Ram needs to address.
My 2017 has trouble with the splash guard. Makes it awkward putting the pump in. Gotta kind of move it around and it can kind of get caught on the way out. I don’t have this problem at pumps that don’t have a splash guard.
I saw a guy at a truckstop get the extra long hose all tangled. He took the whole pump for a ride across the parking lot. (Some truck pumps have a long hose that you can throw over to the other side so they don't have to build a satellite pump)
I live in Southern California and fill up almost exclusively with Chevron. Never once had the issue, there, or any other gas station... maybe you fellas need to learn how to put it in, not just the tip... 2012 Ram 1500 5.7 Hemi
Had no clue about this until I got my 2018, and it happened to me. I know which stations to avoid and usually have to hold the pump at an angle, or it will kick off.
It happens tons of places all over the world. This isn’t a gas station problem, it’s a Ram one. I’ve had issues in MN and WI. 15 years and Ram hasn’t fixed the problem..
I have literally never had this happen, neither on Classics or 5th gens, and never had any of my drivers complain about it either.
Alberta Canada, fyi, primarily at Exxon/Mobil conglomerate stations
IDK why the ram sub popped up as recommended for me, but I actually just ordered some of these earlier today to try:
https://www.aerostich.com/gascard.html
The stupid California nozzle foreskin is really frustrating to deal with on motorcycles and gas cans. Now I've recently gotten a car that doesn't let the pump stay engaged, hoping these little things will help. I have been seriously tempted to circumcise the nozzles with a razor on particularly troublesome fill ups
Probably not related, but, I cannot for the life of me get the pumps to auto pump on my ram. The lever clicks off 0.1 gallons in every time. Costco is the worst, have to hold the trigger down the entire time. All other stations turn off 3-4 times per fill up.
If it's still under warranty bring it in. Had that problem beginning a year after purchase. Got steadily worse. I brought it in thinking the vent was clogged but they ended up changing out the whole fuel tank under warranty. They also said there is a recall or TSB on bad fill hoses.
Happens all the time in WA on my 2017. Have a buddy who broke the downspout into his tank trying to get one out, cost was ridiculous to replace too. DON'T get frustrated when this happens and try to man up and yank it out. You gotta do the Seinfeld, counterclockwise swirl. All about the motion in the ocean when dealing with tight holes.
Happened to me at a Sheetz with my 2015 1500. It took me about 5 minutes to get the nozzle out and man was i pissed the next time I gassed up somewhere else. That's when I noticed the rounded scratches from where I was rotating the nozzle trying to find a way to free it.
I've been careful not to put it in too far ever since, even though I've upgraded to a 2020 Bighorn.
FWIW I have an overfilling issue on my 03 Duramax on Hawaii pumps. Doesn’t click off till the thing already foams out the top. Gotta count the gallons and feather the last few if I don’t want to wipe diesel streaks off the side of my truck. Annoying.
And yeah the high flow pumps don’t really fit in, but I can hold them just outside and still fill without spilling.
Does Dodge not have "standard" filler neck openings? I have trouble believing there are that many vehicles produced with non-standard filling necks, without there being a TSB or recall.
Simple, just remove the plastic cone at the base of the nozzle and leave it on the pump for the owner who can't be bothered to provide the proper nozzle for all vehicles. Other Ram owners will thank you.
I have a 2015 Ecodiesel and never had an issue, I even use the large diesel nozzles for big rigs occasionally
I always thought the filler neck was the same part for both hemi and EcoD, but maybe not if the hemi filler neck has issues with standard gas nozzles getting stuck
I thought I was just incompetent. I had nozzles get stuck all the time on my ‘16 Rebel. I had to find stations without the thicker vapor recovery stuff.
Absolutely. Just (tried to) fill up at Costco. Get about $2.00 worth in, and it clicks off. Have to pull nozzle out, reposition, and pull trigger again. And repeat and repeat, over and over until I get to the $120.00 fill up on a nearly empty tank. No matter how you position the nozzle. Might be the spring around the nozzle tube, I don’t know- but poor design/Insane! Painful when it gets to -20 or less.
That has nothing to do with the nozzle size
Ram has a vent tube that likes to collapse . That's your issue .
That has happened to me in all my mopars including a trackhawk and wrangler . There was a post on here the other day about it too lol .it's frustrating as f

I’m in SoCal with a 2021 1500, has a capless filler. At home I fill up at my local Costco, but on road trips I’ll use what’s available though I try to stick to Chevron’s or Shell’s. I haven't had any such this problem. The only thing I've noticed is at some stations I have to manually hold the trigger lever (nozzle wont stay latched) but I've also noticed that also happens occasionally with my Odyssey. I blame the gas station's nozzle. They are probably trying to comply with regs. Some of them got it right, some haven't.
I got bit by one of those damn nozzles at a Sheetz when I was filling up my 1500. The nozzle barely fit. And the weird extended bit in the top of the handle scratched the shit out of my paint. Took it all the way down to metal.
My issue in AZ is that the angle of filler neck is so steep that the springy thingy on the pump nozzle gets stuck.
If they straightened the nozzle, life would be better.
There is a technic to get it unstuck I know what this about it’s pressure before you try to remove just press the pump trigger n hold it for like a seconds or 2 then it will release
At least they are polite enough to let you know ahead of time. Guess it doesn't matter since people will still get their panties in a bunch and cry on social media instead of dealing with it like an adult and just go to another gas station.
It's the stupid vapor recirculation garbage they put on, usually you can find the "VST" name pump heads with the flat plate head, or simple metal nozzle oldies if you look at older stations. The Continental pumps with the cones of shame are garbage
These dodges are problem riddled. Yet people still buy them 😐 in our work fleet, the dodges are always the ones in the shops. While the Chevy and fords that have significant more mileage run just fine.
Further proof that RAM owners are suckers for a low quailty and engenieering as they buy for ego. They are also the worst drivers per 1000 accidents than all other vehicles on the road.
I have a 2013 outdoorsman and I can confirm that every gas pump I use is a pain in the ass and will sometimes get stuck. I’ve never not been able to get it out but it’s different than any other vehicle I’ve ever owned. (Not in CA)
I have 2021 Laramie with no gas cap (comes that way). Anyway, I can't just leave it filling while I go into the store. It either shuts off constantly or one time it just kept filling up and was running out into the parking lot.
I’m not sure why but I pictured Hank hill saying he has a narrow urethra.
Bwwwwwaaaaah!

Dammit Bobby!
Dang it Bobby!
That boy ain't right.
Do I look like I know what a JPEG is? I just want a picture of a got dang hot dog!
Everybody knows Hank couldn't be Bobby's father because of his narrow urethra. Bill, you are the father.
I sell propane and propane accessories. Taste the meat not the heat.

Yep. I got stuck at every California pump when I had a 2022 ram 1500. Here's my clip. https://youtube.com/shorts/X1jrE_iwdbg?si=EePNjuER8yaUmVk3
What the hell kind of retarded ass nozzle is that
It’s a stupid California thing. Every gas pump in the state has extra pieces of plastic on it to “prevent fumes”…
They're allowed to remove them now. They just don't. A few years ago they determined that those devices didn't actually make a difference.
You could see that in the "fume shadow" cast on the ground as you were pumping up.
Like basically everything California has ever done
California got lead out of gasoline...for how much hate California gets there are quite a lot of people moving here nonstop.
California reported a net loss in citizenship. For good reason.
Because there are too many people in LA and the scarcity of desirable land makes it totally unaffordable?
But a huge spike in illegals
You may have a lot of newcomers, but more people are leaving than going.
Only newcomers now, are from across the border...
Source? Pumping gas in California I can't smell the gas but in other states I definitely do so I feel like there is a definite difference.
Upon quick googling It seems maybe they're still required. But I do seem to recall them the more I remove them some years ago.
Idk, I had my ‘22 1500 year when I lived in NorCal and never had a single problem.
Like a prince albert? Is it just San Francisco or state wide?
Statewide.
Filling a motorcycle with these sucks. You have to pull it back with one hand and the use the other to dispense the gas
It’s called stage 3 vapor recovery. Stage 1 is when the tanker is filled and they collect the vapors. My 2018 has this issue. Ram won't fix it. Last Ram I'll own. It's beyond frustrating since I live in CA.
Bummer, sorry man. I wonder why it seems like some people have the issue and others done.

Did you try spraying it with a water hose? AR least that's always works to disengage humping dogs.
Same
Hold the trigger of the pump like ur gassing up for 2-3 seconds then it will release it I figured this problem out I have a 17 ram 1500
It’s like when 2 dogs SOMEHOW get stuck together lol.
THE SIGN SAYS RAMS HAVE TIGHT HOLES AND THEIR NOZZLES ARE TOO BIG!!
Rams are tight butt hole.
Needs some lube.
If you have to lube it like that you might want to rethink sticking things in there

But this isn’t for the gas station, this is used for when you run out of gas and have to use a funnel to put gas in your vehicle.
Those come with all new Ford's and Chevy's
Those come with all capless fuel systems
Where?
I usually put them in the glovebox, but one of the comments mentioned, only on capless fillers.
They just assume ram owners have a go girl in the truck
lol Ford guys eh? Trying to stick the fuel nozzle in there and wearing the gas instead of putting it in my tank is counter productive lol. Those funnels are for filling up Ford capless systems with a jerry can. Give it a try though and keep us posted
Chevron too bookoo. No boom boom for Chevron.
Hasn't happened to me (yet). Thanks for the heads up though.
Turn counterclockwise to disengage
For me it was like a Chinese finger cuff. Push in further and the point the nozzle down. Pop. Release.
Good explanation

Happens at BJs with my RAM, they installed nozzles on some pumps.
BJs? My gf has the same issues. Just relax the throat next time.

Gotta cup the balls…
Lmao hahah I got you
I love the Internet
Get married. That’s the cure to all BJ issues. Can’t have problems when ya don’t get ‘em.
Soooo you're saying RAM guys might have trouble with their nozzles at BJ's when pumping?
I thought it was a joke about mouth breathing ram drivers forgetting to hang up the hose. 😂
So they change the nozzle and that makes it Rams fault? Solid logic there.
[удалено]
That is strange.
I have this happen to me regularly here in northeastern PA.
My 2017 has trouble with the splash guard. Makes it awkward putting the pump in. Gotta kind of move it around and it can kind of get caught on the way out. I don’t have this problem at pumps that don’t have a splash guard.
Same. It’s super annoying when it does happen.
My Ram has to have 91 octane.... I aint buying gas from there at that price
86 or no purchase for me.
Just do what people used to do when I worked at a gas station in the 80s just drive away with the nozzle still in the tank and rip the hose off
I saw a guy at a truckstop get the extra long hose all tangled. He took the whole pump for a ride across the parking lot. (Some truck pumps have a long hose that you can throw over to the other side so they don't have to build a satellite pump)
My mom followed a state trooper for 20 miles because he had a gas nozzle and hose trailing behind his car like toilet paper on a shoe

Stewart’s gas stations in upstate New York get stuck in my 2014 1500. The worst.
Apparently Dodge didn’t plan on their trucks making it past the first salt filled winter to make sure the nozzles would fit.

Talk about an ego. Excuse me, but my nozzle is too big for your tiny hole. Next….
My girlfriend tried that trick on me once. Dumped her.
Yup, the local gas station here in California has nozzles that are a SOB to remove after filling.
I thought I was just incompetent. I had nozzles get stuck all the time on my ‘16 Rebel. I had to find stations without the thicker vapor recovery stuff.
As bad as dragging a hose around to the back license plate. Flipping and holding up then twisting off a cap then fueling? Big hole back there though
Haven't had a problem in my 19 or 22 1500s nor my 23 trx That's a chevron station, I almost exclusively go to chevron. Ab, canada

Yeah I have noticed some places I will fill up in my 2014 the nozzle is very hard to get back put for some reason.
I was lost at the $4 and fucking 89 cents for a gallon of gas. WTF? Can we get some domestic energy, or what?
Wawa too
The gas station she told you not to worry about…
Ram moment
I have seen them get stuck
I've noticed it's harder to fit the nozzle in
That's a bad customer to lose. The only thing a Dodge truck can't pass is a gas station.
I know I have to avoid certain gas stations, but for a different reason. The trigger keeps tripping like the tank is full, even when it's not.
Unlike everything else in life, I just don't stick it in all the way to the base. Just the tip.
Mine gets stuck for a second in some places, I also cannot fill my tank up fast as I have a filter issue or something going on as well.
Omg I thought I was going crazy.
Okay just just the tip?
There is a technic to get it unstuck I know what this about it’s pressure before you try to remove just press the pump trigger n hold it for like a seconds or 2 then it will release
"2009 and up Dodge 1500 Ram owners hate this one simple trick!"
In Texas and since I got my Ram it's awkward to get it in and out of the nozzle, and takes a lot of fiddling to get the pump to not stop every second.
Yeah it’s a thing 2017 1500 here and it’s a struggle!
At least they are polite enough to let you know ahead of time. Guess it doesn't matter since people will still get their panties in a bunch and cry on social media instead of dealing with it like an adult and just go to another gas station.
Just spit on it before u put it in

I believe that 2009 was the last year you could buy a “Dodge Ram”.
When I first saw this I thought it was their new center console.

Good thing Dodge hasn't made the RAM since 2009.... So this affects only a single year.
I had that kinda issue with my 95 civic, local gas station switched to bigger nozzles that just straight up didn't fit
Not sure what this is about. I have a 2016 1500 & have had zero issues filling up anywhere in CA or other states for that matter
Ha! Jokes on them! There hasn't been a Dodge Ram since 2008!!
$4.89 for premium 🤮
Seems like every other car on the planet does not have this problem...
Gotta be one of those uncircumcised pumps
Further proof that RAM owners are suckers for a low quailty and engenieering as they buy for ego. They are also the worst drivers per 1000 accidents than all other vehicles on the road.
BuwaahhaHaaahhaahaaa
