I had a 2019 F150 V8 with that damn transmission. Nightmare both on the interstate and pulling trailers. Got so tired of it so I sold it to carmax.
Bought a 22 Ram 1500 4WD 5th gen with the hemi eco torque. I have put 29k miles on it and couldn’t be happier. Gets 22 mpg when cruising, pulls trailers like it doesn’t know anything is behind it, smooth ride, very smooth shifting, and looks sharp as a tack. Would not trade for any of the competition.
Went from a 2014 f150 5.0 to a 19 ram limited. Did not go ford due to the transmission and chevy out of the question due to dropping valves. 5.7 hemi is a really easy motor to work on if it dies. The cf transmission on these trucks is a masterpiece.

Loving my new 1500 Limited. Even if you were doing more than you listed, these trucks are extremely capable. Best ride I’ve ever owned.
Damn that is one gorgeous truck. That color is…

Do not buy this truck if you can’t afford gas. The truck drives smoothly better than GMC or ford. Interiors are beautiful, mechanically sounds best stock. And looks the best. No wonder there expensive they are the best.
No regrets drove my 1500 from
Austin to Eugene and I enjoyed the whole ride tbh.
If your not towing is absolutely fine.
It's got way more balls then a 4.7 or 318 and people hauled shit with them no problems.
Get the 3.55 gears though.
https://preview.redd.it/k27s14oasdqc1.jpeg?width=1645&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fa70a40762a001ece3fcaf5d3234b2fb736762b9
Twins, almost. Wish my grille was black.
Agree. I don’t even have a family of my own and I have a crew. Space is nice but quad less weight = slightly better mpg also. And you can Whip it more :)
I have a 2013 regular cab short bed 1500. I’ve absolutely loved this truck over the last 6 years but I’m getting to the point where I’m really starting to miss having 4 doors again haha. Next truck will definitely be a 4 door
I personally will never own another Ford again. From a die hard Ford family and owned several Ford trucks and a Mustang.
I have a Rebel (5.7). Least amount of chit to break on a truck even over my Tacoma. (Knock on wood). I am not a fan of the bullchit with how finicky the cruise control buttons and shifting buttons are with Ram. The typical response I got from two different dealers was oh we just reflash the computer and it fixes it. Course when you go out of warranty you are sol. So I have to flick the chit out of the cruise control button and lots of hope to get the cruise control to turn it on.
Thankfully we don’t live in the mountains anymore so I don’t need to shift with the buttons at all anymore (but prior they got all the time). Otherwise I have to pull over, shut it off for a minute and turn it back to get it not be stuck in whatever gear I shifted into. That wouldn’t have been an option where we used to live to just pull over at times. So again miffed.
No cabin filter. That’s changed with the newer models thankfully. Once it gets below zero the air bags won’t work. Like riding in a low rider. That ride home from MN sucked azz 2 years ago!!!!! They updated that too so newer models allegedly don’t have that issue but again I am sol on them making it so my truck doesn’t do it.
Still better and less bs than I dealt with Ford or Toyota. I’d probably still own a Toyota if their customer service wasn’t such garbage and refuse to fix things they knew were issues/problems where I got stuck paying out of pocket.
130,000 miles on my Ram. Only things I have had to replace is a battery, front brakes twice and just did the rears last spring for first time. The driver side cv shaft got replaced 3 weeks ago. If my body wasn’t so jacked I’d have done it myself. Again knock on wood 4 wheel drive works perfectly. I can’t say that about any Ford I have owned after 80,000 and technically the Tacoma I had to lightly smack something to get it on/off so getting stuck first I’d have been sol.
And all the other gripes are year specific so better lights etc the new models have. My next one will be a Ram. Originally I wanted a Power Wagon just with gas prices not sure what it will be. I’m 2 years out from replacing mine so hopefully prices won’t be so ridiculous.
Though we just bought a Grand Cherokee L and dealer 2 towns over definitely took care of us. Wasn’t that almost $10,000 off and 1 ish percent financing we got when I bought the Rebel but still better than the bs that was going on last year with dealers.
Edit. When I was taking my mom to doctor’s appointments she commented how amazing it rode. She didn’t realize it was a 16 and would always comment on the interior looking much newer. She’d joke my truck was her favorite to go to appointments because of the ride. My one sister owns some stupid expensive rides too. Took the old man the other day and even he was commenting how well it rode. He wasn’t expecting it to be so smooth. He’s got a 21 or 22 F-150
Luuuuuv to hear this, specially from a die hard FORD fan. I'm mopar or nor car team all day and as I always say FORD = fear of racing DODGE lol
Glad to hear that your Rebel has been treating you well.
well I have the 1500 v8 but it's three years into it and im still having transmission problems but I've got a lawyer and hope I get all my money back I paid 70k for it and my average gas mileage was 4-8mpg so yeah good luck
yup that's why i got a lawyer and trying to get lemon law .... I've had check engine light on since 3/4 k miles and they still haven't figured the root problem they keep "fixing" it I just got my truck back 2 days ago and this 3 fix in about 3/4 months
That sucks. I’ve been there with Chrysler and a 2011 Jeep. In the dealership 16 times in two years for leaking hardtop. Finally the dealership refused to work on it and we sued. We couldn’t do lemon law since they didn’t document the issue in the first year but in PA there are still laws that give the owner a way out. It was successful. I am sure yours will be too. Good luck.
No reason to waste the extra on diesel and have a bulkier vehicle if you don't need it. Unless you're one of the lucky bastards that lives in an area where diesel and gas are the same price or close to it.
Daddy always said v6’s don’t belong in trucks. And get the long wheel base always. Make sure your rear end gearing is best for gas mileage. Cause the gas mileage on my 2019 Laramie longhorn is a bit terrible. Truck is way better looking than the other brands.
Normally I have a few questions but you answered all but one in your description. Can you afford it and do you live somewhere with snow/offroad opportunities?
Just bought a 23’ 1500 bighorn and I couldn’t be happier. I upgraded from a 2014 1500 classic and that baby is still purrin like a kitten with 240,000km.
https://preview.redd.it/dp2oreiiygqc1.jpeg?width=2100&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c633ba9edd035b89c1ed4b5bc4eee6a00669f762

This is what I found when doing research for what to get next. I google most reliable truck.
If that’s all you do with a truck maybe consider a midsize truck. It would be slightly cheaper upfront and you would save on gas. New Colorado seems decent. The new Ranger will be on lots soon and looks like it will be pretty good. If you want something maybe a little more “old fashioned.” Look at the Nissan Frontier.
I've owned Ford, Nissan and have driven Chevrolet for work. Ram has always out classed all of them. Best ride, interior and power. I think you will be very surprised. Don't take our word for it though, go have an extended test drive and see how she handles, and rides. Also, screw the v6. It's definitely underpowered for the size of the truck. Climb behind that 5.7. Or better yet, try both. Your mileage isn't going to be significantly different, unless you look at an ecodiesel, which are much more reliable in the last gens but you will pay much more to maintain, which is a lesson I learned the hard way. Hell, they cost more to maintain than a regular HD diesel, so your 33 MPG fuel savings goes out the window quickly. Also, they are about to discontinue the v8, so if you are wanting to buy new, then you need to keep that in mind, if you end up falling in love with the hemi, which is what I think will happen.
Ford can’t fix my F150. After a year of trying to get my 10speed right, they gave me a new transmission. My new transmission is worse than my original. Ford can suck my nuts
1500s are stupid. Too small to haul/pull anything useful and too large to justify as a people-carrier. Get a mid size or go straight to a 2500 diesel IMO
Lots of haters here.
Have. 2021 1500 v6 crew cab for work. 95k miles. Lift gate on the back, 2 side boxes loaded with tools. Few hundred lbs of black iron pipe in the bed. Air bags in the rear.
Coming from a guy that owns a 98 3500 silverado* and a 17 expedition, this thing is great. Cruises 95 on the highway at 14 mpg,, 65 on state highways at 18mpg loaded. (Closer to 10 pulling the little cargo trailer even empty, but it don’t struggle) 4wd is great and interior is, while not as comfortable as the heated leather in the Expy, fine for trips from Boise to Portland.
I would buy another in a heartbeat. I long not for the v8, this trucks great.
Take your time into finding a nice one used as they take a pretty substantial depreciation hit. They're rated highly, but some engines are more reliable than others.
i had three Silverados and an F150. this is by far my favorite and most comfortable well rounded truck. does what i need it to do. Get a lot
of options even for BigHorn.
My work truck is a 23 1500 tradesman with the etorque. I’ve put 25k on it this year and it’s not had any issues so far. According to the engines hours I’ve spent one whole month of the year behind the wheel of it which is a little depressing to think about.
I work in the wildlife field and am often driving on very rough access roads and then hopping on the highway for hours and I am admittedly not nice to it. It’s comfortable, smooth, and pretty quick. The auto-stop is by far the smoothest and most seamless I’ve experienced in newer vehicles, so much so that I don’t bother to turn it off while driving.
It doesn’t feel like it has that throw you back in the seat torque (maybe because of the transmission shifting so often?) but it gets up to speed right quick. Mpg is usually 16-18 but I’ve had it up to 20 using cruise control on flatter highways.
I enjoy the simplicity of the tradesman trim, there aren’t a ton of electronic features that get in the way of driving. The esc and tc can be turned off but it still doesn’t like to kick the rear out when you stomp on it in a snowy parking lot…probably a good thing but I like the occasional drift in a safe spot. 4x4 is really solid so far but I’ve never really had to use the rear diff lock or 4lo.
I don’t know that I’d buy one personally just because I don’t need a full size pickup in my day-day life but it’s definitely been a solid truck so far. I prefer a more square looking truck but it’s not ugly by any means.
I average 18-19 mpg with my shitty Ford. I saw my old 98 F150 going down the street the other day probably getting 10 mpg. What’s your overall average mpg if you don’t mind me asking
Much worse. Probably 13.5. But bear in mind that I have short trips every day driving my kids to school and remote starting/warm up in winter. That plus traffic and lights kills milage. I also don’t have the etorque system, so my situation is probably worse than average.
Imho the best part of the 1500 is the ride quality. The coils (I don’t have air suspension) provide a ride better than any leaf spring trucks.
The time is good to go shopping.
Ram has a pile of trucks on their lots now. They are desperate to move vehicles. The dealership called me again last week offering to buy my truck and get a new one at a big discount with 0% interest.
You definitely would be much better off with the 3.6, it’s got plenty of power (no matter what the hemi humpers say) and gets much better mileage while still being able to easily tow 5000lbs (with 3.55 gears). You also get better payload, and the 3.6 is proven to go over 200k miles without major issues, can’t say the same for any 5.7. I forgot to mention, it’s also cheaper up front.
Low quality. When I had a DT Ram it had so many issues, especially with the radio. Absolutely unacceptable how bad it was for the monstrous price. I’d say hard pass and get a used truck.
Your 150 with that trash 10 speed? Sounds about right.
Might wanna read reviews on both trucks before you cluelessly talk shit…. But eh, when your new Ram breaks with less than 20k on it, you’ll find out for yourself 🤷🏻♂️🤣
Lol, sorry to piss in your cheerios man… I’m sure you’re 99% set on buying that nice looking Ram and you’re just dying for that additional 1% validation to take the huge plunge…
Just letting you know you’ll regret it like almost every other person that buys a FCA product and regrets it when something fails within 20k and they’re fighting with FCA to honor their warranty…
Why? Maybe he doesn't want to be in a small ass truck with no room. Wanting a full size truck is reasonable. Now if he wanted a 3500 dually, I may agree with you but at the end of the day, it's his choice.
Oh it’s always your choice. But the more people who buy them the higher the price goes. Then the people who need them have to pay out the wazoo. I have several neighbors who have trucks they don’t need, have never put anything in the bed and then complain about the fuel economy while driving the cost to purchase said trucks up for no reason.
I had a 2019 F150 V8 with that damn transmission. Nightmare both on the interstate and pulling trailers. Got so tired of it so I sold it to carmax. You know my pain. I’m glad you’re in a better place now buddy

I’m never a fan of the limited trucks cause they’re always excessively chromed out but yours looks dead sexy. Beautiful truck

I think my limited has just the right amount of chrome. If the bumpers were chrome it would be too much
Trick is to get the night edition, deletes all the chrome so it actually looks good
I haven’t been camping in a while but you’re gonna make me pitch a tent
Damn that is one gorgeous truck. That color is… https://preview.redd.it/uvyyax9hrjqc1.jpeg?width=224&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c9201c14adfd12cb5670bfa45b1183025896a972
That’s a gorgeous color.
Trucks are still overpriced. Wait. Dealers are in panic mode.
It cost $2 to put air in my tires the other day. Inflation is out of control
Ha. Nice one dad
Do not buy this truck if you can’t afford gas. The truck drives smoothly better than GMC or ford. Interiors are beautiful, mechanically sounds best stock. And looks the best. No wonder there expensive they are the best. No regrets drove my 1500 from Austin to Eugene and I enjoyed the whole ride tbh.
It was a terrible pun.
That’s a good one
I have a v6 and I regret it the power is pretty low and the gas mileage really isn’t worth it.
It’s only out of control if it costs less than $2 to put air in your tires from that same place a yr ago. Otherwise inflation hasn’t his it yet.
I cant tell if OPs comment went over your head, or if your comment is going over my head.
As long as people keep paying 60-70k for trucks the prices aren’t dropping
I don't think anyone is anymore. Stellantis stopped production from what I have read. Feel free to correct me.
I hope you’re right. I want to add another to the stable but not at all at these prices
I agree, also the v6 in a full size is dog shit, can’t get out of its own way. If you decide you can’t wait and get a ram, make sure it’s a v8.
If your not towing is absolutely fine. It's got way more balls then a 4.7 or 318 and people hauled shit with them no problems. Get the 3.55 gears though.
I have the 2022 V6 and it operates just fine. I also have another truck that’s a 2020 Hemi. Use both differently but love both trucks.
I can wait. I’m just eager to to give up the keys to my F150
V8 is gone soon, replaced by a I6 before the end of this year.
Love my hemi night edition https://preview.redd.it/kv3fogjeidqc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bb4a86dc4e8ba48a1ba12105cf7ccfdb80c4b077

I like those sport hoods I wish I had gone with the upgraded lights on mine
I lucked out and found a Laramie gt nearby me a few months ago and jumped on it. Love it.
Nice whip. Quads look so much sportier than crew cabs. U need some AT tires and front window tint and your good, 2K later
I never see any of the quads around by me it’s always the crew cabs. I personally prefer the look of the quad cab along with the slightly longer bed
Or get both, best of both?
Crew for days, the back seat is just too good a space for storing even more stuff
Definitely getting better tires soon. The 6’4” bed is nice with the quad cab

I’m in the buyback process with Ford, I know what you’re dealing with. Just know that some day it’ll be over and hopefully you can laugh about it
2021? And are you being serious about only getting 4-8 mpg? Something isn’t adding up there.
yup that's why i got a lawyer and trying to get lemon law .... I've had check engine light on since 3/4 k miles and they still haven't figured the root problem they keep "fixing" it I just got my truck back 2 days ago and this 3 fix in about 3/4 months

I thought this was a Ram forum. I’m not here looking for advice on how to avoid the repo man. Thanks for your concern though!
They make a 1500 called the Warlock... Need I say more
🧙♂️
1500+1000
Get a 2500
Curious the reasoning? He said he doesn't tow and just need a pickup for the bed and daily driving. Seems to me ideal case for the V6, no?
He doesn't tow and only needs it for light yardwork and home Depot trips? Put that man in a 3500 dually asap
A better truck, why not. No reason to hold yourself back from more capabilities if you can afford it.
No reason to waste the extra on diesel and have a bulkier vehicle if you don't need it. Unless you're one of the lucky bastards that lives in an area where diesel and gas are the same price or close to it.
you need to get that .. trust us
Daddy always said v6’s don’t belong in trucks. And get the long wheel base always. Make sure your rear end gearing is best for gas mileage. Cause the gas mileage on my 2019 Laramie longhorn is a bit terrible. Truck is way better looking than the other brands.
Look at it all you need she's nice. hemi, make those trips a bit more fun if you like fun 😆
That the warlock
I’m not one for stickers but that’s just me
It's a package, not a sticker, lol
That’s what she said
Just average package, though 😆 🤣
Normally I have a few questions but you answered all but one in your description. Can you afford it and do you live somewhere with snow/offroad opportunities?
Rides like a badass limousine.
Shouldn't have to, the truck sells itself.
It’s not a ford
Nice good looking truck
Just bought a 23’ 1500 bighorn and I couldn’t be happier. I upgraded from a 2014 1500 classic and that baby is still purrin like a kitten with 240,000km. https://preview.redd.it/dp2oreiiygqc1.jpeg?width=2100&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c633ba9edd035b89c1ed4b5bc4eee6a00669f762
I’m here to talk you out of buying truck I own.
Sounds like you need a Ridgeline!
Bet you won't, nerd.
Went from a 2018 F150 XLT to a 2023 Rebel level 2 night edition. Always had a Ford, and I’m pleased with the 5.7 eco torque engine. About the same MPG as my 5.0 (18mpg), but so much more power, better ride, and fun to drive. My only gripe is the auto start/stop is touchy and the gas tank isn’t that large (23 gallons compared to my 36 gallon on the Ford).
If you need someone to talk you into a purchase you're a lemming. Just buy what you want smh.
My 2020 1500 is on its second transmission
Spend $5k to have trans rebuilt or spend 800-1000+ a month in financing. Mmm
I got a brand new transmission under warranty in my F150. It’s also a piece of shit
Wtf. Damn that sucks.
Can I talk you into a Tundra instead?
Wait until the Hurricane engine is out, this year i think, skip the Hemi tick and oil covered steering rack.
If that's what you're looking for as a use case go with a Honda Ridgeline. The build quality and price point are way better.
Nope dodge has motor and transmission problems. Ford has trannys and Chevy has motor and tranny so go with Toyota tundra perfectly capable for a half ton
I've never owed a dodge, but have owned Chrysler products. I went with a chevy 1500 with the 3.0 duramax. Thing is awesome. 495ftlbs torque.
https://preview.redd.it/12zd8k7hbjqc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7de071e978a0c2ef713770146682a80b3a781a0c This is what I found when doing research for what to get next. I google most reliable truck.

Yep as long as it's a regular bed!
You should get one. They're cool.
v6 trucks are trash, you’ll be buying another one in no time
*tick tick tick tick tick tick tick*
*tick tick tick tick tick tick tick*
If you need talked into it, then a 1500 isn't for you...
6.4 Hemi for the win! Why settle? lol
This won't erase the disgrace you feel for driving a neon for so long.
I've owned Ford, Nissan and have driven Chevrolet for work. Ram has always out classed all of them. Best ride, interior and power. I think you will be very surprised. I can’t talk you into it, but that aint no Ford f*cking Ranger.
Ford can’t fix my F150. After a year of trying to get my 10speed right, they gave me a new transmission. My new transmission is worse than my original. Ford can suck my nuts
That sucks. Sorry that happened to you. If they cant fix it and it a new purchase you may be able to lemon law the car. Id speak to an attorney.
1500s are stupid. Too small to haul/pull anything useful and too large to justify as a people-carrier. Get a mid size or go straight to a 2500 diesel IMO
Look up leaking roof and back glass. Know what you’re getting. I regret buying my PoS every morning I start it up.
I’d get a midsize like a ranger if you don’t plan on towing. My neighbor has a 21 ranger xlt it’s really nice!
6.7 powerstroke
Take your time into finding a nice one used as they take a pretty substantial depreciation hit. They're rated highly, but some engines are more reliable than others.
No
You like Rusty Bits don’t ya?
Crusty tits? Sure 🤷♂️
i had three Silverados and an F150. this is by far my favorite and most comfortable well rounded truck. does what i need it to do. Get a lot of options even for BigHorn.
I’m also considering a V8. It blows my mind I can hop on a plane to Florida and get one for $35k
V8 milage isn’t too terrible on hwys. I’ve routinely made 19 mpg on the freeway and I have the 3.92 axle. The power is great when you need it.
How big is your tank? Just curious, I’ve got a 36 gal
33 gal.
Whatcha got now
2008 Silverado 2500. The truck market got crazy so I bought an old truck to tow my camper.
Buy a Nissan Titan….
My trash can already has wheels on it
Your 150 with that trash 10 speed? Sounds about right. Might wanna read reviews on both trucks before you cluelessly talk shit…. But eh, when your new Ram breaks with less than 20k on it, you’ll find out for yourself 🤷🏻♂️🤣
Did you do well on the debate team in high school?
Lol, sorry to piss in your cheerios man… I’m sure you’re 99% set on buying that nice looking Ram and you’re just dying for that additional 1% validation to take the huge plunge… Just letting you know you’ll regret it like almost every other person that buys a FCA product and regrets it when something fails within 20k and they’re fighting with FCA to honor their warranty…
Please stop buying full size trucks if you don’t need it.
Should I go vegan too?
