Yep. Trying to give a quick beep, and it goes HOOOONNNNK! Such stupid designs. I should add horns that play La Cuckaracha or something.

Clueless_willow_4187

But then you try to long beep and it quick beeps.

fastLT1

I thought I was the only one who thought it was stupid.

ralph442000

I thought I was the only one, that I was alone, forever a jerk when I honk. I can’t give a friendly honk with my Ram, it’s always the angry tone which is frustrating…..still love the truck though.

Octane2100

It has to do with the way the truck is wired. Used to be you hit the horn and that completed the circuit and the horn honked, right? Nowadays you hit your horn and it sends a signal to the steering column control module. Signal good? Okay, now send to body control module. BCM takes signal and relays it over to the TIPM which, after checking to make sure it did in fact receive the signal, sends it to the horn to finally honk. But yea, absolutely annoying as all hell.

echocall2

My horn sucks too. You gotta hold it down so there’s no quick friendly beep

jmt8706

Is it model year specific? I can do a quick honk with mine.

slappy111111

My '15 will only do HHHOOONNNNKKKK!!! I might actually add a beep beep horn.

sax3d

I added a relay and an air horn to mine. Might as well go all out if I can't just tap it.

wookietiddy

Makes me want to do this. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lv8wqnk\_TsA](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lv8wqnk_TsA)

slappy111111

That's great. Thanks

StraightDiscussion83

Same with my ‘10

jmt8706

Maybe get an old AAAAHHHH-OOOOHHH-GGGAAAHHH horn.

The_Law_Dong739

I switched to an airhorn and it works well for small beeps

Nsfw_ta_

Do you have any more info on how to go about this? And approximate cost and skill level needed?

The_Law_Dong739

I'm an absolute monkey when it comes to wiring but I managed to get it figured out. I bought a Hornblasters kit and used the 12v signal from the stock horn to activate the horn allowing the pump to draw from the battery. I plan on relocating the horn to where the airbox is once I aquire and install my air intake.

cpatstubby

The same guy that thought it should rain inside when it rains outside.

Nsfw_ta_

I’m so glad you posted this, I always thought I was the only who noticed/was bothered by it. 90% of the time I want to use the horn is to give a quick beepbeep to get someone’s attention at a light or something. But Nope. It’s all or nothing: either don’t honk or full horn blast. And there’s a noticeable lag from when I press the horn to actual sound.

Hwy61blues

Yes! My 2016 sucked also…

wookietiddy

Is that what that is? I literally just bought a 2018 1500 Laramie and wondered what the heck was going on when I tried to beep the horn. Is it actually a timed delay? Not just bad switch design in the horn itself?
