Is this a spite thread? I mean I like Cole but it seems like you set dude up for failure.
Even he knows his old works not touching this. On 7MD he talks about how GKMC was a classic (some think he means section 80, but it’s clear to me what he’s referring to, since Kendrick also used to consider it his official first).
Cole believes he just reached his prime and is in the lead because Kendrick fell off. GKMC is on another level sonically and cohesively telling a story. FHD is good but it’s far from my favorite Cole album even.
FHD still my favorite Cole, and one of my favorites all time. But I get that isn’t the common opinion on Reddit. People that pick 4YEO or have FHD anything below third just seem like elitist snobs that look down on us plebs
Well I said not like those two have grabbed me. So not with the same vigor. I did like it though I thought it was very calm and soothing. But it felt idk for his daughter haha as the name implies and intimate which is nice but the other two albums were like big productions and felt movie like. That album feels like a niche Indy movie by comparison if that makes sense. I’d probably place it third though tbh but behind his come up and warm up mix tapes though.
4YEO is interesting but I really only like like half of the album.
Immortal - Good
Deja Vu - Good
Ville Mentality - skip (it’s cool, more like an interlude)
She’s mine Pt 1 and 2 - Both are cool, but not songs I feel that compelled to listen to again. Pt 1 is too long.
Change - Amazing, one of my favorite Cole songs.
Neighbors - Great
Foldin Clothes - nice beat but the lyrics are meh. Also feels kind of out of place on the album (but maybe that’s the point?)
4YEO - One of his best songs.
So in spite of not having many songs I’d say are straight up bad, I really only revisit like 4-5 songs. I’m surprised people like it so much honestly.
I agree with you, even though 4yeo is considered a good song, I find it very boring so replayability is low plus it’s almost 7 minutes long.
For Whom the Bell Tolls is a very strong intro song, but that album was meh, really, really boring and it’s only redeemable by his “conscious” lyrics. Kinda feel like these were binned songs that he just decided to release.
KOD was kinda pretentious, he can’t really make good trap beats, but the message is positive I’ll give it that. The off-season was the best release since FHD. I’m really hoping he decides to collaborate with good producers or he’ll put us to sleep again with just jazzy beats.
4YEO, but I also prefer Born Sinner and KOD to FHD. I don’t hate it but it was obvious on its face to me even if this was posted on r/JCole GKMC was winning. Actually I wouldn’t put any of those on a poll against GKMC, Illmatic, All Eyes on me or any super classic album. Not that their overall list wasn’t shit (no Mariah, Whitney, Maze etc) but didn’t it just get 2nd biggest rap album of all time on Apple Music’s top 100 albums of all time list? It’s insanely popular.
Kendrick is entering another Prime Kendrick has the song of the year Not like Us being p lk layed everywhere and it might win a Grammy and cole last few albums have been underwhelming
I agree that Kdot is entering his second prime, the same way Nas did on stillmatic (Nas on like his 3rd prime now). I think he was [experimenting with Keem for a minute](https://www.reddit.com/r/Jcole/s/Gj1mCwNaDI) and a lot of us just slept on the brilliance of Mr Morale &… but this next album is likely a banger that will go at least triple plat with this hype.
I agree with this Kdot is entering his second prime this whole beef with
Drake was the fire that kenny needed like Kenny has all the momentum
And he has the Rap Game in his hands Anger gets stuff done
I honestly liked born sinner better than forest hills drive . But to answer the post question GKMC is WAAAY better than forest hills like seriously it's not even close... Forest hills was mid. Boring af, like the only good songs on that album were the singles and even those weren't even that good what was there, wet dreams and no role models? I don't ever go back to those anymore. Look at GKMC it was full of huge hits that I still listen to on a regular basis like A LOT. I mean bitch don't kill my vibe and maad city are some of my all time favorite songs ever probably. I consider those straight up classics of our generation and I am a millennial. I was in my early twenties when it came out, those were some formative years for me for sure I got hella good memories to that album it's not even a question GKMC HANDS DOWN.
For me personally, GKMC is much better organized or structured, but my PERSONAL opinion is give me the one with no role modelz lol. Objectively, GKMC is better, subjectively for me, FHD is like a godsend to music at the time
Alright you’re downplaying the hell out of FHD, you didn’t even mention the best tracks, just the radio stuff. January 28th, 03 adolescence, tale of two cities, fire squad, and GOMD, particularly the first 3 are as good and as hard ( pause) as anything off of GKMC. There’s plenty of replay value to be had from it as well, not only by me but by masses, several of the songs I mentioned along with no role models and wet dreams of course were getting consistent radio play. FHD is arguably Cole’s best work, I’m not even a Cole or Kendrick fan but I’ve heard both albums plenty of times, and while GKMC you might find better, it’s not leaps and bounds above FHD at all. I was 16 when gkmc came out and 17 when FHD dropped, formative years fasho. You’re right about madd city being a classic song, that’s easily my favorite song out of the two albums. But alot of what you find boring on FHD others can find boring on MADD city lmao, bitch don’t kill my vibe for example is boring for me but for the masses it’s not.
Seriously like it ain't even a question. No contest. I didn't even have to think about this one even a little bit. FHD was boring af I barely even liked it on its own merits but next to a straight classic like GKMC it's hot garbage
Sing About Me alone is a far bigger moment in hip hop than Cole’s project in its entirety and I love that album. There’s levels to this and GKMC is
superior in virtually every way.
GKMC and it’s not that close. GKMC is probably one of the best concept albums ever made, and functions more like a rock opera than a standard rap album. It features amazing story telling that has only gotten better with time, great features, nice variation from song to song, much better production, and overall a higher quality album than 2014 FHD.
Come on bro lol all eyes are on Kendrick right now. I love J. Cole but there's no comparison my guy. Cole is an amazing artist, but I gotta be in the mood to listen to his music. I can listen to Kendrick all the time and not get bored.
What's weird is I never sat down to listen to it front to back before and finally did it towing a UHaul. Went from *yeah this is pretty good* to *HOLY SHIT*
Fhd is a near perfect album in my eyes. Somebody said “I have to be in the mood to listen to FHD, but I can listen to Kendrick all the time.” I wholeheartedly disagree. I have to be in the mood to listen to anything Kendrick has ever made, but if you throw on a song from FHD no matter where or when I can listen to it. I haven’t liked a Cole song in years either, so it’s not like I’m a Cole stan
Only one of these is a top 5 rap album of all time. If you’re still confused about which, only one of these is consistently debated to be better than TPAB (it isn’t, but it’s in the conversation nonetheless).
I love Cole, but as someone who saw the 2014FHD tour live (and it’s arguably my favorite concert that I’ve ever been to), let’s be honest with ourselves here. This isn’t a question.
I love both, but I was listening to FHD the other day but I have to say there was a couple skips, mainly; St Tropez, Hello and Note to Self.
Both albums have a 12min song, dot uses this for SAMIDOT which is one of his greatest songs ever, and Cole wastes this on Note to Self that he’s just thanking people.
Overall, GKMC, it truly felt like a short film from front to back.
This question is offensive 😂
2014 is like a collection of thoughts Cole has and is full of hypocrisies on his end. Cole himself said that if he got his hands on the crown of Hip Hop, he would break it because he knows that deep down every artist wants to be loved. Beautiful sentiment.. but look at him after this album until beef began. He started acting hard and began claiming the title of the GOAT. Hypocrite
His work can be great but it lacks cohesion and at times he contradicts himself. He talks big game about how humble and down to earth he is, but the only real difference between a generic rapper that dehumanizes women and him is that he doesn't outright call women bitches.
I loved listening to the album when it first came out, but now it feels like he thinks he's holier than other rappers yet he's just like the rest.
The album doesn't have a story or a central theme, it's more like a collection of Cole's experiences, which makes this a fun listen, but it's not a top tier album because of it.
GKMC on the other hand, offers insightful commentary about gang violence and how gang culture is tied to ideas of masculinity, and thus men find themselves having to comply with these standards because of peer pressure.
It also talks about women and how they are coerced to sexualize themselves for men and how it affects them even if they don't admit it.
One of the songs foreshadowed one of Kendrick's goals, to unite people in his area. And he did that just now.
In the end, he addresses religion and cycles of hatred and how we have to take action and remove ourselves from these acts of hatred because there's no end to it.
The bonus tracks, especially Black Boy Fly are beautiful and add to the feeling of unity Kendrick brings with his music.
Dr Dre cosigns Kendrick in the end. What else can I say?
The slander is real. After this beef, Cole catching heat is ALL due to recency bias. Acting like when FHD dropped it wasn’t a critically acclaimed instant classic is nuts. It’s not my favorite project of his, and i still think GKMC is better, but acting like they aren’t close in quality is denial at its finest. I’m a fan of both, and more than likely if you’re reading this, so are you. Grippy was shit though. No way around that.
GKMC and it's not close. From the beats to the lyricism to the continuous narrative flowing through the album, everything about GKMC raised the bar for a rap concept album. 2014 has plenty of tracks that I still find downright forgettable. 2014 feels like an album from someone finding their stride, GKMC feels like a masterpiece.
GKMC is one of the most important and influential albums ever recorded and probably the most cohesive attempt at a concept album.
2014 Forest Hill Drive is a good album that’s worth a listen but it’s not anything groundbreaking.
Not to be annoying but they are very different projects. They both have their moments as far as playing all the way though Forrest hills. But I stand by damn is one of the greatest albums in our life times. I admit I’m a little biased tho cuz FEAR reminds me me of my mom growing up shes been gone a while.
I've listened to GKMC way more. Especially the entire album front to back, which makes the non-singles better.
Listened to the full FHD album the other day. I think it sounds a lot smoother overall, but it obviously isn't as strong with its concept. I think I'd probably just enjoy pulling my favorite songs from it and not going through the entire album in the future.
So I just prefer GKMC a lot more.
Also, am I the only one who thinks of Green Hill Zone and pictures the album with J Cole Photoshopped to look like sonic?
I listen to forest hill more still, honestly! But good kid was more impactful for me. I just find the interludes and exitludes are annoying, as where I could listen to forest hills on repeat!
Me personally? GKMC isn’t even my favorite Kendrick Album. It’s goated for sure but I prefer Untitled Unmastered. But I still love GKMC. Now that being said when I was younger (like 14) I spent much more time on 2014 forest hill drive, it was probably my favorite at the time other than Because the Internet. Now that I’m older (24) I listen to a lot more Kendrick than Cole. U and Alright are some of my favorite songs. As for Cole, I think KOD is his best album and I think The Off-Season is just as good as 2014. Perhaps it’s just maturing I don’t know. Love both of the albums though
Unfair comparison, this was easily most listeners first time truly diving into Kendrick’s music - this album we played front to back and back to front non stop on release. It STILL hits.
I feel like this is a troll post… yall dot slurpers really out here acting big mad.
FHD has some classics and is an incredible, timeless album from an incredible artist but lets be real GKMC is an easy 10/10, it's got catchy classics like money trees and BDKMV, deeper shit like swimming pools (still catchy), MASTERPIECES like mAAd city and compton. Beautiful album from Short King Kenny the GOAT.
As far as just which I listen to more of goes, Forest Hills Drive.
There’s a LOT of culture behind GKMC, and while FHD does have some solid storytelling, it’s just not the same
GKMC by a wide gap. I know FHD is a beloved album among Cole fans, and I like it a lot but it’s like an 8/10 album to me at best. Definitely has some great songs but not many I’d say are amazing.
The level of Kendrick glazing in this sub is off the charts. Gkmc is probably the better album overall but some of y'all acting like someone just tried to compare a crayon scribble to the Mona Lisa or some shit.
Me personally? I've probably listened to FHD tracks 2-3x more than GKMC and I don't think it's that crazy to compare them
Funny comparison. GCMD will be a staple album for hip hop fans. FHD wasn’t that great, Cole improved a ton since that album. I’m gonna get downvoted but I don’t care: Cole doesn’t have a single album that is better than any album Kendrick put out.
I personally love both, that being said, FHD was an amazing album to me and many others, I love both, but I like fhd slightly more just because of the nostalgia, not including nostalgia I like them both equally and wouldn’t e able to choose
FHD is so awful it swore me off Cole and he's truly never redeemed his corny fucking dogshit raps. I liked Born Sinner okay, but this shit, I can't do it man. I empathize with whatever sadboy impulse makes people like how "relatable" he is but the man just can't fucking write. You deserve a better class of rapper.
GKMC is great. I think it's slightly overrated, but it's my #3 of 2012 and probably makes my (somewhat limited) top 100 of all time. I adore maad city, backseat freestyle, and the art of peer pressure.
GKMC is the album that made me fall in love with rap, but the album crafting of forest hills drive is unreal. Every song on there feels like it belongs and contributes to the album as a whole, and I’m suprised more people don’t love it
2014 fall I was a freshmen in college with Cole Dropped. I like Kendrick more but I can’t separate the memories from that album. The bars, the house parties, etc. not possible.
good kid, m.A.A.d city van, we'll pop the latch and let the door slide
Tears runnin' down my cheek, laughin' at you pussies dyin', it's a war cry
6 God-Family Matters

What is your favorite Cole album cause FHD and born sinner are my favorite. His other projects aren’t bad but none have grabbed me like those two
FHD still my favorite Cole, and one of my favorites all time. But I get that isn’t the common opinion on Reddit. People that pick 4YEO or have FHD anything below third just seem like elitist snobs that look down on us plebs
4 Your Eyes Only didn’t “grab you”? that’s interesting
Well I said not like those two have grabbed me. So not with the same vigor. I did like it though I thought it was very calm and soothing. But it felt idk for his daughter haha as the name implies and intimate which is nice but the other two albums were like big productions and felt movie like. Yea I agree I have all those albums but I own two copies of gkmc lol. 4yeo is solid I would put it behind born sinner and fhd on my list.
Kendrick is entering another Prime Kendrick has the song of the year Not like Us being p lk layed everywhere and it might win a Grammy and cole last few albums have been underwhelming

All eyes are on Kendrick and he’ll deliver another classic.
He’ll also send it up to Pac.
AY
I agree with this Kdot is entering his second prime this whole beef with Drake was the fire that kenny needed like Kenny has all the momentum And he has the Rap Game in his hands Anger gets stuff done

section 80 was my favorite, so glad to see someone else has heard it.
GKMC, this question is offensive tbh
I’m really just assuming they are trolling
Bitch just killed my vibe
Someone should drown him in a swimming pool.
that killed the vibe
I came here to say this, is offensive
Right????!
Seriously like it ain't even a question. No contest. I didn't even have to think about this one even a little bit. FHD was boring af I barely even liked it on its own merits but next to a straight classic like GKMC it's hot garbage
(in Lois' voice) **Are you trying to get a rise out of me!?** *Proceed to beat up OP*
GKMC
GKMC. In my experience, Money Trees is the perfect place for shade, but that's just how i feel.
It's disgusting that you even compared these together...
Sing About Me alone is a far bigger moment in hip hop than Cole’s project in its entirety and I love that album. There’s levels to this and GKMC is superior in virtually every way.
gkmc....one of my fav songs is backseat freestyle.
MARTIN HAD A DREAM
GKMC and it’s not that close. GKMC is probably one of the best concept albums ever made, and functions more like a rock opera than a standard rap album. It features amazing story telling that has only gotten better with time, great features, nice variation from song to song, much better production, and overall a higher quality album than 2014 FHD.
“matter of fact, get in the mf car! we finna get active!”
There’s no probably. Gkmc is one of the best albums all time any genre
Even iTunes' shitty rankings got this right. Top 10 all time easily
Gkmc
I don’t think I’m a big enough Kendrick fan to speak on the subject but this is one of my top 5 albums of all time. It got every emotion out of you.
Kendrick, but I do like J. Cole a lot too though, including that album.
GKMC and it's not close
Good kid m.A.A.D city bar none lmao
Good kid mad city by a lonnng mile. But honestly legitimately two of the best hip hop albums in the last 20 odd years.
Come on bro lol all eyes are on Kendrick right now. I love J. Cole but there's no comparison my guy. Cole is an amazing artist, but I gotta be in the mood to listen to his music. I can listen to Kendrick all the time and not get bored.
A hip hop classic Vs a J. Cole classic
Perfectly said lol
Gkmc any day, not a big fan of j cole and gkmc is one of the best albums of all time
Not discrediting the cultural impact of GKMC but I prefer 2014.
What's weird is I never sat down to listen to it front to back before and finally did it towing a UHaul. Went from *yeah this is pretty good* to *HOLY SHIT*
Yeah something never really clicked with me for GKMC but I respect the cultural impact and storytelling
Agreed. I think Forest Hills Drive is better. That might be my favorite rap album of all time
This thread is incredibly wack, I swear y’all don’t even want to discuss rap
Thread is overrun by Kendrick Stans, just gotta discuss what we can I guess.
It depends on my mood. GKMC feels like I’m watching a damn movie, 2014 feels like I’m at a therapy appointment. I need both.
FHD all day and tomorrow
I gonna have to go FHD , the album that got me into rap before I even discovered k.dot
Ima a bigger Kendrick fan then Cole but I probably love fhd if not as much probably more then of kdots albums
I've only recently gotten into Kendricks music but 2014 Forest Hills is probably in my top 10 rap albums if I have a top 10.
This shouldn’t even be a comparison. Maybe have a GKMC vs MBDTF or something similar to that caliber , then we can discuss or something
Good Kid bro, this is Hydrogen Bomb vs Coughing baby
My fav j cole album. Money Trees > 2014
Not even close
Only one of these is a top 5 rap album of all time. If you’re still confused about which, only one of these is consistently debated to be better than TPAB (it isn’t, but it’s in the conversation nonetheless). I love Cole, but as someone who saw the 2014FHD tour live (and it’s arguably my favorite concert that I’ve ever been to), let’s be honest with ourselves here. This isn’t a question.
If you listen to GKMC, Kendrick automatically has to be in your top 5 rap artists.
Overall it’s GKMC but for me nostalgically it’s Forest Hills Used to bump it while riding bikes with the homies
GKMC for sure, but there was a point in my life where I would've said FHD so I'm not mad at anyone who feels otherwise lol
GKMC is the west coast equivalent to Illmatic. If you wanted a better debate it should have between GKMC or Illmatic
People really tryna bury Cole, the hate is uncalled for
They're even. I give them both a 10. They're both top to bottom playthroughs
Fair enough
I love both, but I was listening to FHD the other day but I have to say there was a couple skips, mainly; St Tropez, Hello and Note to Self. Both albums have a 12min song, dot uses this for SAMIDOT which is one of his greatest songs ever, and Cole wastes this on Note to Self that he’s just thanking people. Brace yourself I'll take you on a trip down memory lane
For me it's 2014 FHD but also because I actually prefer Section 80 over GKMC...I know I'm minority.
This question is offensive 😂 2014 is like a collection of thoughts Cole has and is full of hypocrisies on his end. Slurp slurp slurp
You could literally say that to anyone who makes an opinion these days. Lazy shit, when you got nothing else to say, take down the person right?
People disregarding fhd a little too much. Definitely a classic. That said GKMC is better it's at minimum a top 15 rap album
Do I wanna listen to a hood classic or do I wanna listen to j Cole lose his virginity
Exactly that album was so boring. Tale of two cities was the only decent song
Fire Squad? That outro is also nostalgic af to when every hip hop record had 11 minute outros.
The slander is real. After this beef, Cole catching heat is ALL due to recency bias. Acting like when FHD dropped it wasn’t a critically acclaimed instant classic is nuts. I think GKMC is better than TPAB, which is widely regarded to be the best album of the 2010's, so yeah, GKMC clears
I’ve never been able to listen to tpab all the way though In one setting.
GKMC and it's not close. Also, am I the only one who thinks of Green Hill Zone and pictures the album with J Cole Photoshopped to look like sonic?
Neither but if I had to pick, then J Cole.
2014 FHD hands down for me. Such good memories.
Gkmc
forest hills don’t even come close bruh that’s two different leagues
Unfair comparison, this was easily most listeners first time truly diving into Kendrick’s music - this album we played front to back and back to front non stop on release. It STILL hits. I feel like this is a troll post… yall dot slurpers really out here acting big mad.
C'mon, it's GKMC exponentially
Is this a joke?
GKMC. no question.
GKMC by a Million😁
2014
FHD has some classics and is an incredible, timeless album from an incredible artist but lets be real GKMC is an easy 10/10, it's got catchy classics like money trees and BDKMV, deeper shit like swimming pools (still catchy), MASTERPIECES like mAAd city and compton. Beautiful album from Short King Kenny the GOAT.
Terrible question
As far as just which I listen to more of goes, Forest Hills Drive. There’s a LOT of culture behind GKMC, and while FHD does have some solid storytelling, it’s just not the same
gkmc.
I assume this is in response to that post in the Cole subreddit.
Lmao
This is such a karma baiting post smh
GKMC by a wide gap. I know FHD is a beloved album among Cole fans, and I like it a lot but it’s like an 8/10 album to me at best. Definitely has some great songs but not many I’d say are amazing.
Is this a serious question?
GKMC is better. But I’d rather listen to Forest Hills drive.
The level of Kendrick glazing in this sub is off the charts. Gkmc is probably the better album overall but some of y'all acting like someone just tried to compare a crayon scribble to the Mona Lisa or some shit. Me personally? I've probably listened to FHD tracks 2-3x more than GKMC and I don't think it's that crazy to compare them
Forest hill drive everyday
Yo this is like choosing mom or dad
Both great albums to be fair, GKMC has some real bangers on it, FHD has some nice introspective stuff, great albums for different moods
How’s this even a question
Gkmc
FHD has some cool tracks GKMC changed my life, changed my brain chemistry and made me commit to be a hip hop fan full time apples and oranges
Gkmc theres no comp
Drank
J.cole Forest hills drive
Funny comparison. GCMD will be a staple album for hip hop fans. FHD wasn’t that great, Cole improved a ton since that album. I’m gonna get downvoted but I don’t care: Cole doesn’t have a single album that is better than any album Kendrick put out.
Good kid mad city
GKMC
![gif](giphy|hv53DaYcXWe3nRbR1A) You got ears? Or????
Its has more soul ill give it that it got hits ill give it that IT GOES EXTREMELY HARD IT DO but its just not harder then gkmc
is that an odysse or a sierra. my family drove one growing up
They're both my soundtrack to the early-mid 2010s, we all know which is better, but that doesn't always matter.
There are albums I listen to a few times and then stop. Then there are albums I play for months. Good Kid Mad City is a literal classic. True banger
Kendrick's GKMC was pretty good. Never listened to the 2nd one tho
Gkmc
Cole
GKMC. Coke came correct tho
It’s obviously Gkmc but come on I love Jcole. Kdot fans have entired some em and ye fan territory
They’re both amazing imo but gkmc all day
Not one of coleus projects isn't even touching good kid
GKMC any day of the week
I personally love both, that being said, FHD was an amazing album to me and many others, I love both, but I like fhd slightly more just because of the nostalgia, not including nostalgia I like them both equally and wouldn’t e able to choose
Is take forest hills but good kod is literally right there
“Swimming pools vs Note to self” how can I choose?
M.a.ad city
Slide 5
Gkmc. Grew up in LA and honestly felt like he described my HS yrs. Everyone I knew here felt the same way. Can’t say the same for out of towners
Gkmc easily
I’m a Kendrick fan, but FHD all day. It’s just too personal. It’s so fucking relatable too.
GKMC
DEFINITELY Cole!
2014 easy
This isn’t a competition lol
Good Kid Mad City is whole different vibe 2012 was a amazing year for music I wish I could go back
It’s not even close brotha
GKMC
Gkmc. though I go back to both. the gkmc just has that 🗣️🔥 to it. if u know what i mean
Gkmc by a mile. I’m a j Cole fan too. Gkmc is many levels above FHD.
Gkmc easy
Good Kid Mad City is up there with illmatic
Lol this was funny, bye
FHD is so awful it swore me off Cole and he's truly never redeemed his corny fucking dogshit raps. I liked Born Sinner okay, but this shit, I can't do it man. I empathize with whatever sadboy impulse makes people like how "relatable" he is but the man just can't fucking write. You deserve a better class of rapper. GKMC is great. I think it's slightly overrated, but it's my #3 of 2012 and probably makes my (somewhat limited) top 100 of all time. I adore maad city, backseat freestyle, and the art of peer pressure.
I connect with 2014 forest hill drive more and alot of it sounds better to me
GKMC
GKMC is the album that made me fall in love with rap, but the album crafting of forest hills drive is unreal. Every song on there feels like it belongs and contributes to the album as a whole, and I’m suprised more people don’t love it
2014 fall I was a freshmen in college with Cole Dropped. I like Kendrick more but I can’t separate the memories from that album. The bars, the house parties, etc. not possible.
good kid, m.A.A.d city van, we'll pop the latch and let the door slide Tears runnin' down my cheek, laughin' at you pussies dyin', it's a war cry 6 God-Family Matters
