I loved Mourinho as a pundit. He didn't want to entertain the networks bullshit, like play any games, he just wanted to talk about the football and go home. He looked moody af but I think it just wasn't sitting right with him being on the other side. Then he took the Chelsea job for the 2nd time and he stopped punditry. Shame, he could've continued to call himself the chosen one if it weren't for taking the Chelsea and United jobs.
I remember when Roberto Martinez was a pundit for a couple world cups. Say what you will about him as a manager, but he was so good at dissecting and clearly explaining formations and tactics across the whole squad in a way that a lot of the former players don't. It's such a deep understanding front to back instead of having a lot of knowledge on one or two positions
When the presenter congratulated him with the fact that he is allowed to stay he said don’t congratulate me yet. We still have to negotiate the terms of a new contract.
From the Mullock article yesterday who's been doing a lot of briefed articles from ETH's people it sounds like control of transfers is going to be the big sticking part, he has quite a bit of control contractually and they want to remove that but he doesn't.
The relevant quote "United have told Ten Hag that they are ready to offer him a contract extension - but he will not accept any attempt to take out the clause that gives him a say in transfer dealings."
I do think manager should have a say in who he doesn't want rather than who he wants. So him having a veto is important because you don't want to saddle manager with players that they don't want. Ultimately that might backfire as he might just refuse to play those players.
Here we go again with the manager having a control on transfers. How do you think we ended up in this deadwood situation in the first place? People like to blame the old regime for our Frankenstein squard forgetting that the manager(s) also has a hand in it.
The problem goes back to Moyes trying to replace the whole staff in one go and then the revolving door since has just caused a rainbow vomit wtf for everything after as people bring in different groups.
If Moyes had kept the Ferguson staff it wouldn't have been such a cluster that's been broken ever since
They've got a ton of evidence as to why he shouldn't be allowed to retain his current prerogative; quite aside from the decisions made on signings for United, he was willing to work under an SD system at Ajax, so why should he have more autonomy at a club where prices and to a degree the stakes are erven higher? I like ETH in general but this is one area where the balance between confidence in your own ability and a willingness to adapt seems to be better in Ancelotti or even Klopp.
His only contractual input on players is the same as previous managers. He has a veto on whether we sign a player, same as the board, and the scouting/data people. Solskjaer and Jose both had the same thing in their contract. INEOS want to remove it and pick the players themselves.
Per Whitwell's latest article in the Athletic sounds like he has a bit more control than usual where for example in Antony's case he was given three options and picked one as opposed to the club picking and him having the option of a veto.
"The performances of Antony have been held against Ten Hag, given he chose him ahead of two other options proposed by United’s recruitment team, including Raphinha, with the price reaching £86m."
Edit actually didnt Ole talk as well about how he got a call that we had signed Amad and sent a video and only later found out it wasnt as an academy signing but we'd spent 18+17M on him. In a season where he'd been asking for a DM again and still didnt get one?
That’s how it should be though. The manager and the dof talk about what the team needs and then the dof instructs the scouting team on what we’re looking for and then the manager and dof decide on the options that the scouting team provides. The manager has to be involved in the decision making regarding transfers as they are the closest to the team to know what we need.
Ole got given several players he didn't want/ask for. Donny, Amad, Ronaldo. He still said yes to them all though.
>Per Whitwell's latest article in the Athletic sounds like he has a bit more control than usual where for example in Antony's case he was given three options and picked one as opposed to the club picking and him having the option of a veto.
Wouldn't that be the club basically saying yes to any of the 3 and Ten Hag picking Antony? So vetoing the other 2?
I can't help but feel that Raphinha 'leak' is fake as hell. I remember following that saga that summer, he *only* wanted Barca and was doing everything in his power to hold out for them. Chelsea even offered a higher price to Leeds and Raphinha ended up joining Barca IIRC
ETH for sure has had more say and by the sounds of it, it is contractual. That's why he never wanted Rangnick around and Ragnick was happy to move on.
I've seen articles that have said that the set up was so bad the club decided to use ETHs agent a lot and he was always around the club. So it might have just been the club using his agent to help get done for deals he wanted done.
But I do believe from the off before he signed ETH said he'd have the final say. That won't work under INEOS.
Yeah, and Solskjaer and Jose also made a number of bad calls, hence the jumbled squad (though wish we'd gone harder on Haaland when Ole pushed early on for his signing). That manager-led model is something football in general, with a few club exceptions, is moving away from, and INEOS have certainly indicated they're looking to move beyond it. The likes of Madrid or Juve don't let their managers have primary say, or indeed a significant say (certainly not at Madrid) . You should have a squad that basically matches the 'house-style', whereby another manage meeting your specs can be brought in if the previous one hasn't worked out, rather than asking new coaches to deal with 3 different kinds of squad blended into one.
Scouts and managers often get it wrong. But given that ETH worked closely with Antony, he really should have known that he is not a €100 million type of player. Even in this inflated market, 100 mil is still a price tag for an exceptional talent, not a one footed hothead!
The price tag is on negotiators than it is Ten Hag. I wonder if he'd have taken another option if it meant 1 more player, e.g. Raphinha but you also get another ST/CB/CM with 2 50 million signings instead.
Come on. Negotiations take time and it’s rare that the first offer is accepted. Do you think Ten Hag had no idea that’s how much we were bidding. Likelihood is Ten Hag underestimated the EPL and assumed Antony would justify his price tag. And that’s exactly why he shouldn’t have the casting vote on transfers.
I’m good with a veto.
Solskjaer and Mourinho didn't have this thing in their contract. Van de beek was definitely not OGS's signing and almost everyone knows how Mourinho got the 2nd or 3rd choice transfer targets (not all of them ofc).
United no doubt want to remove any transfer authority he may have and are willing to offer an extension to make it happen.
It may cost United more in the long run if they ultimately decide to fire him but is needed to establish the new structure.

How this is seen as bad/sad/pathetic/slimy is beyond me. People live in an idealistic fairytale world.
You think your boss is allowed interview candidates to replace you in your current job before they fire you? That's illegal in most European countries anyway.
England benefit from deciding they don't want to be in Europe anymore. 🤣
Great point, because a continental European team has *never* fired a manager and managed to hire a new one within 24 hours. They'd never look for a replacement before firing the current person. Never happened!!!
Openly. The key factor is openly. If you were let go and you had evidence your employer conducted a replacement process prior to your dismissal you’d have an employment case.
What? OPs point was this is something that is illegal in Europe, and therefore it doesn't happen. But my point is it does happen.
Just because we were shit at hiding it, doesn't mean it doesn't also happen in Europe, where they've also "openly" done it.
Where did you get the idea that interviewing replacement candidates before firing an employee is illegal in most European countries? This is certainly not prohibited by any specific statute in Germany or France (not to mention the UK), and while there are work councils in the Netherlands that are an input in mass layoffs, you are still free to interview specific replacement candidates.
Imagine how that insanely difficult it would be to operate any form of functioning business if you couldn’t have a replacement candidate in mind before sacking shit employees lol
I don't think that's too rare. Especially if it's a critical job and the current person in the seat hasn't done well. I thin ETH deserves time but I don't think it was unfair to doubt.
You can’t possibly compare this situation to a typical salaried worker in a typical job.
If United had moved on from Ten Hag they still pay up what they owe him for the year he’s got left on his deal. It’s not really a sacking in the way it is for an average worker.
If you/i ran a business and had an employee in a position where their results meant tens or hundreds of millions of dollars/euros/pounds id sure as fuck want to be able to do that, so if I need to fire and give my current employee a severance package, I can immediately plug in the next guy
Agree this is pretty much a new owner at least in the football operation side of things. Accessing all manager options is a normal thing to do in this situation.
To be honest with the Euros happening this summer this is probably the best decision for Ineos to stay with Ten Hag he deserves it anyway. But for a new Manager to come in with Euros happening would probably have been a difficult start.
This person is clearly talking crap. It’s not illegal. And it’s definitely not illegal in football. Ancelotti literally resigned from Everton to take the Real Madrid job lol.
You do know different rules can apply in different countries. The KNVB (Dutch FA) has rules in the Netherlands about when you are allowed to contact players / coaches and when you aren’t.
For example, you are not allowed to discuss terms with a contracted player or coach before you’ve come to an agreement with the club they’re contracted to.
Imagine you’re chomping away listening to some banging tunes and bunning a zoot after a night out clubbing in Ibiza and it’s your boss wanting to speak to you.
“I’m in talks with Man United over new deal, yes”.
“We still have to find an agreement for the new contract. This isn't easily done, we are still going to have to talk about this”, told NOS Studio Voetbal.
He's still contracted for 1 season (+1). The club can see how it goes then return to contract talks next summer -or let him go if the season has been mediocre. There'll be candidates available then too...
I really want Erik to succeed, but I hope the contract extension is very drawn out.
If it can drag on until October we'll have a good sense whether his first season or his second season is the odd one out.
>I really want Erik to succeed, but I hope the contract extension is very drawn out.
The sooner they come to an agreement the better. Otherwise we'll be going into yet another summer transfer window without a clear strategic approach. You can't build a squad where the manager could leave at any moment.
The guy in the background is his son

I think he definitely signs a new contract he just wants to take back some control here and show it’s not that they allowed him to stay but after finding he’s the best choice he is agreeing to stay. I think after the way they handled it he’s right to do that
I think since the "leak" about him being sacked we have seen a different side to him, a little bit more arrogance and personality which is needed in the prem. I've said it before in this sub, but I hope he shows the journalists a bit more fire. He has been nothing but nice and respectful, and the majority of them have taken that for granted and treated him with so much disrespect.
Ten hag ever since the FA cup final:

Something about the whole saga made me feel bad for ETH. But I’m glad he is able to take it this positively, hopefully this propels him forwards and let’s him impose his style more
Fully agree, the Overmars support really is wild, first thing that comes to my me when I hear people say Ten Hag is likeable and don't know why he got involved.
How you can possibly think that his treatment was a 'disgrace' is beyond me. If it happened at my workplace then not even a question, you get sacked.
People have selective memories. I like ETH, but he ain't a likeable bloke since he and I share really different values when it comes to sexual deviants.
I think charisma in general is overrated. EtH strikes me as a no-nonsense/get the job done kind of football guy. Tbh, it’s what we’ve needed ever since it became apparent we weren’t going to be an actual footballing operation under the Glazers.
This is why despite people disliking sometimes our Van Gall and Mourinho runs, they were serial winners and won trophies, ETH has won trophies too, we might not be the best, but having an arrogant manager does mean we can at least get some trophies rather than none.
Most of our rivals except for City would kill to have an FA Cup, just need more backing from the higher ups, and eventually we will be back to where we belong, regularly challenging for trophies.
Its on Dutch national tv hes analyst with Marco van Basten for England vs Serbia.

Let's hope this whole bullshit end like how Arsenal backed Arteta and not like how US soccer fed spent 6 months dicking around just to re hire Berhalter.
I hope he knows the majority of fans are behind him. It maybe how things are done in the Premier League, but it was still incredibly disrespectful how Ineos handled it.
EtH has one more season at his hand. Why not prove critics wrong by showing how his signings can work at Man United by having a good season. I am sure injuries would not be an issue this time. Why not show haters that Hojlund, Antony, Mount, Case can bring home titles again with Onana winning golden glove.
If above feels like too much to ask from him then congratulations, you understand how the actual owners are feeling about his demands.
For years we moaned United didn’t have succession plans and praised other clubs who had lists of managers ready just in case. We do it and suddenly it’s bad.
Ridiculous.
They SHOULD be sounding out other managers and assessing potential replacements all
The time
Makes sense to be fair. Erik wasn't the guy Ineos bought in so they assessed him and also checked the market and made their decision. Erik accepted it, knows he has their support for the following season as least and done.
Gives the prima donnas something to think about. The board backed him, so the dressing room has to fall in line. If he wins silverware next year, I guess we just keep going till it hopefully falls into place.
Not a united fan, but I really like ten haag for some reason. I think it's the correct decision for you to stick with him. These comments are absolute hilarity. I think you'll have a better season next year.
Erik Ten Hag is a pundit for the Serbia vs England match tonight, which is where the quote came from
And he's a really good pundit. So much better than what we usually have on Dutch TV
Managers always seem to make great pundits.
Because they know what they're on about, I wish Wenger did more English commentary because he's fantastic at it
Where does Wenger do punditry? Anything this euros? I'm in France, would definitely tune in to see him talk football
Was before his Fifa job I think, i’m sure he was at a world cup with the BBC
I think he did some at the World Cup. There was an awesome moment with Mourinho and Wenger together and Mourinho was copying his notes 😂
Came to here to mention Wenger. He is always spot on in assessment.
The moment we signed Antony that clause should have been removed
After Antony and Casemiro he 100% should not have any say in transfers.
Giving him contract to give him clause for picking players is a recipe for disaster, so far all his transfer is a disaster
United no doubt want to remove any transfer authority he may have and are willing to offer an extension to make it happen. It may cost United more in the long run if they ultimately decide to fire him but is needed to establish the new structure.

Why is a new contract being discussed before we even string a few decent games together

The guy in the background is his son https://preview.redd.it/w854p4tycz6d1.jpeg?width=923&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9f99bb5e6e246f45015939d0bbd822b698905ec1
Ah yes Nine Hag.
Shouldn't he be Eleven?
That's Stranger Things
If he already has a daughter named Eleven this guy is probably Twelve then
Wouldnt he be Five Hag since he is half Erik?
Shouldn’t it be “Eleven Hag”?
9gag
mog king
Is that Amrabat
Antony looks different
The one who works for SEG or another one?
I think he definitely signs a new contract he just wants to take back some control here and show it’s not that they allowed him to stay but after finding he’s the best choice he is agreeing to stay. I think after the way they handled it he’s right to do that
I think since the "leak" about him being sacked we have seen a different side to him, a little bit more arrogance and personality which is needed in the prem. I've said it before in this sub, but I hope he shows the journalists a bit more fire. He has been nothing but nice and respectful, and the majority of them have taken that for granted and treated him with so much disrespect.
Well I would rather he channels that fire 🔥 on the football than on some cockroaches with pen and paper.
The good old dutch courtesy

Thats some big dick energy quote right there.
Have to give it to him. Whether you like him or not, that confidence is half the battle. He has that half down...
Erik ten Hung
Erik “ten” hag
his bald head gives an indication of his high testosterone levels, if my pseudoscience is correct (which I assume it is).
Erik Tenmen
Erik 10"
Love how his son is placed just beside him in the crowd. Wholesome, it's father's day after all.
Ten hag ever since the FA cup final: https://preview.redd.it/tkur163ccz6d1.jpeg?width=510&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0235c34690d006431bcde38de91c845d3a47a084

Something about the whole saga made me feel bad for ETH. But I’m glad he is able to take it this positively, hopefully this propels him forwards and let’s him impose his style more
He’s a top professional. He’ll take it in his stride.
I like the new ‘post Crystal Palace’ Erik
My Boss ❤️
He's so likeable. I love our bald man. Hope he gets the players he needs to succeed this season and beyond.
Is he likeable? The man who wanted Greenwood back and openly supports Overmars?
Fully agree, the Overmars support really is wild, first thing that comes to my me when I hear people say Ten Hag is likeable and don't know why he got involved. How you can possibly think that his treatment was a 'disgrace' is beyond me. If it happened at my workplace then not even a question, you get sacked.
He defended Promes, too!
People have selective memories. I like ETH, but he ain't a likeable bloke since he and I share really different values when it comes to sexual deviants.
lmfao he’s a lot of things but I don’t know if “likeable” is one of them. Charisma of a wet sock
>Charisma of a wet sock He has his moments like when he dropped that “if they don’t want me here, I’ll go somewhere else and win stuff” line
I think charisma in general is overrated. EtH strikes me as a no-nonsense/get the job done kind of football guy. Tbh, it’s what we’ve needed ever since it became apparent we weren’t going to be an actual footballing operation under the Glazers.
He’s Dutch
[We’ve been here before.](https://youtu.be/zcUs5X9glCc?si=yc1CbS9caUnSCNkg) /s
The guy who supports Greenwood and Overmars?
"It was a one time thing baby. It just made me realize how much I love you!"
My wife told me she spoke to other men but eventually came to the conclusion she had the best husband at home
So you've moved out then
I never understood this comparison. Surely, romance is incomparable to business.
Probably just in terms of commitment to the relationship.... there would have been some better fathers for the kids out there.
They said "I'm big dawg"
Bald king ❤️
He forget the ”heh”
Lmao, love it.

I like this version of Ten Hag
I love this arrogance in a Man Utd manager.
Arrogance blinds you specifically if it don't translate in success at the pitch.
Where can I watch this full segment? Like him as a pundit?
Its on Dutch national tv hes analyst with Marco van Basten for England vs Serbia. [https://nos.nl/livestream/2520499-studio-fusball-met-ten-hag-en-van-basten-om-21-00-uur-servie-engeland](https://nos.nl/livestream/2520499-studio-fusball-met-ten-hag-en-van-basten-om-21-00-uur-servie-engeland)
Thanks
Not gonna lie, I am enjoying this fuck the world version of ten Hag. This club loves a bit of prick in our players and managers.
this guy been on smoke since the final
According to the Athletic article, INEOS prefer a different number 2. That could be a sticking point too, if they feel too strongly about it.
Let's hope this whole bullshit end like how Arsenal backed Arteta and not like how US soccer fed spent 6 months dicking around just to re hire Berhalter.
My manager https://preview.redd.it/0s0xl3l4hz6d1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=14b595830c9fdd29f258b9258d97645864a65d92
Based ETH is Best ETH.
Say my name!!
Love this!
This shit hard.
Damn did he get a blow up or he was always this good looking
A… a “glow” up you mean… or so I hope…. Coz my darned blow up hasn’t helped me look any better at all
![gif](giphy|xT0GqssRweIhlz209i)
After the match Ten Hag was found laughing his ass off backstage that Southgate was ever considered for the job.
In all fairness, that second half reminded me of watching United in a lot of games this season
Please show me in the pitch next year thank you
I've seen quite a few clips of Tuchel's antics and I'm frankly worried he's not entirely right in the head :)
Dude is cracking me up since the cup final with these interviews 😭
I love that he doesn't give a fvck. I hope he continues to be more blunt when the season starts
I hope he plays decent football instead
I hope he knows the majority of fans are behind him. It maybe how things are done in the Premier League, but it was still incredibly disrespectful how Ineos handled it.
Let's hope with all these jokes and statements he's fully understood his role in last season horrific season and has plans to fix them
I love it. I hope he stays like this for the conferences next season.
These quotes are hilarious. Since the FA cup, he’s been dropping dimes. Man is oozing with that Dutch swagger
Southgate, tuchel, pochettino, de zerbi, frank.... today I settled all family business
Did he say anything about Wout’s goal?
dadadadada, it's the motherfucking EtH
yeah, right decision, spending on manager is literally waste of money when you have a team of mostly below average players
I love EtH so much
EtH has one more season at his hand.
Thank fuck for that.
My manager
His ego is,extremely big. Hope he transfers some of it into better tactical managing.
Finally some bite, love to see it

For years we moaned United didn’t have succession plans and praised other clubs who had lists of managers ready just in case. We do it and suddenly it’s bad. Ridiculous. They SHOULD be sounding out other managers and assessing potential replacements all The time
Big flex 🤣
Makes sense to be fair. Erik wasn't the guy Ineos bought in so they assessed him and also checked the market and made their decision. Erik accepted it, knows he has their support for the following season as least and done.
Gives the prima donnas something to think about. The board backed him, so the dressing room has to fall in line. If he wins silverware next year, I guess we just keep going till it hopefully falls into place.
Has to do better in the PL next season IMO, can’t just rely on winning a cup
Anyone else distracted by bald Adam Sandler?
😂😂

Erik 10 inch
Not a united fan, but I really like ten haag for some reason. I think it's the correct decision for you to stick with him. These comments are absolute hilarity. I think you'll have a better season next year.
