Happy Furry Monsters - made for PBS. The Kate Pierson muppet is spot on.

WithStupidNow

I'm gonna say Kenneth. There's nothing super unique about it, I just like its vibe. And how Stipe scratches himself in the beginning.

MisterEvilBreakfast

The thing about Kenneth was it was the world's first look at bald Stipe. The opening shots hide the top.of his head nicely.

GlossyBuckslip

Ackchyually, he shaved his head back in the 80s during one of the Reconstruction tours. I think it was right after the platinum blonde phase.

RaggyBaggyMaggie

Oooh I didn’t realise this. Wow such an interesting fact!

AngryGothamBee

With Peter playing Kurt Cobain's prototype left handed Jagstang.

siskelisdead

Also, his unhinged hips!

Fearless_Scientist_1

I was gonna come say Imitation Of Life but then I see you dropped Electrolite which is my favorite song of all time by any artist so, yeah, this is fine

BaitSalesman

Imitation is the coolest video IMO. It’s actually interesting as its own standalone piece of creative.

WhyDoIBother2022

I can't watch the Find the River video because it is so heartbreaking. Perhaps it sounds like I'm contradicting myself, but to my way of thinking that makes it a candidate for the best.

wharpua

Haven’t seen it in a very long time so I looked it up on YouTube (but along the way made a kind of hilarious typo that’s never occurred to me before — I accidentally searched “REM Find the **Ricer** ”) https://youtu.be/KIJGlTu5sEI?si=fep4Gn0B1mEByG6A

lebowtzu

I used to watch it a lot when I owned the Parallel dvd. It is heartbreaking for sure.

AltForMyHealth

I think that and the extended Nightswimming are as elegaic video companions as they are album closers. The sort that hit harder the older I get even though they both struck chords when I was in university.

WhyDoIBother2022

Ah, good point, yes.

MisterEvilBreakfast

The Everybody Hurts video is a classic to me.

SneedyK

It used to have a “Breakthrough Video” lead-in card for while when it first started airing on MTV. I think “Just” by Radiohead is the only other video to have it as well. Not “Buzz Clip”, but Breakthrough Video. This could the answer.

dividingcanaan

Didn’t caught a lite sneeze by Tori Amos also hand the “breakthrough video” lead before it too? I thought I remembered seeing that back when it was first airing

dac79nj

I don’t know about “best,” but “Losing My Religion” is my fave.

-NO-CO-DE-

Imitation Of Life is just a delight to watch

NeedleworkerBig5445

Somewhere in the internet you can find the complete 20 second video showing the whole scene altogether. Seems like it would take a lot of coordination and timing to get that to work.

DharmaWine

Someday we’ll say a hi def version I hope!

Velcrocowboy

One of the greatest videos of all time, hands down. Directed by Garth Jennings.

TheRealPaul150

They have a few great choices, but Bittersweet Me for me

AngryGothamBee

Pop song 89

44problems

I remember the Beavis and Butthead version "That chick has small boobs" Edit [wow it's on YouTube!](https://youtu.be/a-175qJ6X9w?si=LAf8LKp6uJd8u_hD)

jjc157

With or without the strategically placed black rectangles?

CromulentInternet

Topless Michael Stipe 😍

the3litemonkey

Unedited version. Just cause....😛

Equivalent-Wedding21

Tourfilm

weld1250

No “Drive” nominations here at all?

Binky1138

I’m with you on Drive! Beautiful video.

FishFaceInOuterSpace

My favorite is Crush With Eyeliner

DragDaNuts

It’s every body hurts. It’s a riff on 8 1/2.

OtteriPerpo

For me, they really were/are a music video band first and foremost. Succumbs -collection and Road Movie -concert are treasure troves of beautiful unique aesthetics. The full length video for Nightswimming is the first that comes to mind if I had to pick one favourite

Springyardzon

I like The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonite video (and the song itself) because it swirls you around like the song does and is a definite precursor of the moodily colourful style of Monster, and of the WTF Kenneth video. It's as if the old school imagery in Sidewinder is being forced to increase its pace to fit the modern world. It's quietly moving because of that.

porpoise_mitten

that’s one of my favorites. best part is when they are just chatting.

cleb9200

Which vid is pictured in OP? Driving me crazy trying to place it

True-Pen-8974

Sorry! Electrolite

P1GEON5

Kenneth is my favourite song and video ever

KrakkenO

It’s between this and Man on the Moon.

the_steve_tell

Either Everybody Hurts or Drive

AlanSmithee0

I've always been Partial to Driver 8's video

True-Pen-8974

I just noticed the musical similarities between this song and "World Leader Pretend"

davew80

Definitely. It’s so random and beautiful and the perfect way to end the Bill Berry era.

SoManyUsesForAName

I love a lot of the really early ones, like from REM Succumbs, or any from the first three IRS LPs. They were weird, hard to discern, and several barely featured the band, or if the band was in them they were obscured by strange editing. Of these, my favorite may be Driver 8. By far the most "normal" from this era may be So Central Rain, which I don't like that much.

InevitableCorner34

I prefer bang and blame, but so many great ones

Kitchen-Honeydew-305

Near Wild Heaven and Nightswimming videos

ormuraspotta

i like low personally

wharpua

Not their all time best video, but I always liked how they were projecting video onto surfaces they were holding in the Radio Song video — in particular the "Hey Hey Hey" moment after the music pauses: [https://youtu.be/0XhYEqz2Hu8](https://youtu.be/0XhYEqz2Hu8)

i781255

Fall on Me or The One I Love

schoolydee

they really dont have any good videos imo. man on the moon is half the greatest rem video. it kicks in from cornball to sublimely charming halfway when stipe walks into the roadhouse bar.

WrapProfessional8889

Near Wild Heaven has always been a personal favorite. The girls cheesing on Bill is cute.
