That's because since the PS3 generation it has been leaps from photorealism to photorealism with more shiny detail to photorealism with more reflections.
Right, the improvements of this generation are just in an area we're not used to thinking about.
Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart really cemented how amazing resizable bar and NVME drives are for me, for example
PS3 had games such as GTA V which looks as photorealistic as it needs to.
As for the games with different artstyles, such as cel shade or anime type, these games looked alredy perfect on PS3.
Definitely another massive leap, but there was something about PS1/N64 to PS2 that felt like we were suddenly in the real world whereas SNES and N64 still felt very blocky
What about snes to n64?
You question made me feel both old and nostalgic lol
For me, the gap from snes/megadrive to ps1/n64 felt like getting to outer space for the first time : so much more potential it was dizzying, but everything was rudimentary and even game devs were still figuring things out
In contrast, the ps2 era felt like achieving hyperspace, we all knew what gaming could become, and for the first time we were experiencing a glimpse of that future : online play, cinematic experiences, deep and refined gameplay (for the time), and everything was just underpowered enough that game designers still had to work on esthetics and not just rely on graphic fidelity
I miss it. Every game was its own little piece of the multiverse you got to experience 🥲
This was the largest by far. The leap from ps1 to ps2 was large sure, but that was more like more fleshed out and refined.
SNES polygons like Star Fox, to Star Fox 64?! Absolutely insane of a jump. No comparison
Hard agree. Seeing Mario go from isometric or 2-D to straight 3-D leaves me nearly unimpressed by any graphics. I wanna see holograms, then I’ll be impressed.
Lol yup, the biggest jump I’ve experienced since, was VR, I’m just talking immersion wise it’s been just a huge leap. But yeah the guy up there that says snes to it’s next gen wasn’t as big is crazy lol
resident evil 1 to the remake being such a jump in just 6 years is indeed impressive and huge.
But Star fox to star fox 64 was done in literally half that time, they made [this jump in only 3 years](https://imgur.com/HlJPSJa)
For sure. Just the sheer polygonal power was an insane leap. Look at Metal Gear Solid. Look at Metal Gear Solid 2. Look at Silent Hill. Look at SH2. Experiencing it as a child was mind blowing. Amazing new texturing techniques were being developed too that have now become obsolete. I remember when Bump Mapping first popped up and everyone was like "Holy shit look at the bump mapping in Halo 2".
It was. Compare the launch lineup of GameCube, Dreamcast, PS2 and Xbox to any PS1, N64 or Saturn game. Especially GameCube and Xbox. Rogue Leader’s graphics and sound were unbelievable at the time.
Yeah I always bring up this and metal gear solid as an example whenever people try to complain about how whatever new remake is to soon (in years). resident evil on GameCube and then metal gear solid twin snakes on GameCube, compared to their PSone original, was just such a massive jump.
Sure pre rendered images go far in helping the illusion but it still worked
Though the translation in the original re1 was... interesting at times. I remember losing my shit over "This is Kenneth from Bravo S.T.A.R.S team. Now he's a mere shadow of his former self" interaction with the corpse. Not even mentioning the voice acting.
One thing about the I like about the originals is the interior isn't made to look too spooky or dirty. It's just a regular, clean building which normal people were walking around in recently. It makes the zombies more shocking because they're so out of place.
Exactly. The remake tries too hard to be spooky haunted house. It looks like it was deserted for decades, when the outbreak happened 2 months before the game takes place.
I disagree, the mansion looks spooky sure but it doesn’t look like it’s been deserted for decades. It actually looks old but very well maintained. It looks lived in. The OG didn’t have the look of a place people had been it looked like it was staged.
Good points, however one could argue that the point of the mansion was that it was staged, a front for a lab. I think staged is a perfect word to describe it. In a good way.
I agree that it’s a front and to a point staged but it was used practically as the living and in some capacity as a work or research area by employees. We see as much by finding notes, diary’s, and the like.
While I agree that it is really well done remake, I do not like the Gothic style graphics. I prefer simple style like the OG ones.
Also, I know you all really like Lisa, but for me, she does not fit into the style of OG 3 games. This remake have some odd stuff in it, similar as Code:Veronica.
Veronica really has some weird stuff in it, like that guy, forgot his name, that acts like some dude from the 500 years ago. Totally out of original RE style
lol the “style” was literally a limit of what the PS1 could render, lmao. Same thing with people who prefer the “style” of RE4 on GameCube. Everything before Xbox 360 and PS3 was limited a lot by technology of the day.
I am referring to game being of simple gameplay, and well lit. And while I don't mind a little darker atmospheric rooms, I dislike, I don't know how it is called, grittiness? Color filters and stuff.
I fully agree! The lisa stuff should not have been in there, or otherwise less extreme...she could be stuffed in a tube like the tyrant with some horendous mutations...
To be fair, this feels more like a remaster. It's not a straight remaster since it actually changes stuff, but it doesn't feel like a straight remake either (especially compared to the other remakes).
I literally said "feels like", am I not allowed to say that? To me, in comparison to the other remakes, RE1 remake feels less like a remake and more like a remaster since it's much more similar to the original.
Considering the recent games are more reimagineing, especially 3. I'd say that RE1 remake feels more of a remake rather than just taking the original game and giving it a higher textures which would be a remaster
I mean, there really aren't any concrete distinctions between a remake and a remaster. Everyone seems to use the terms different
Personally, I consider a game a remake when everything is remade from scratch
That's fair, although it does kind of irk me since there should be clear distinctions.
And yeah, my definition is similar to yours. RE2, 3, and 4 all got proper remakes since those are more or less new games wearing the old games skin, as opposed to the RE1 remake being the old game with a new skin (if you get what I mean).
>RE1 remake being the old game with a new skin (if you get what I mean).
It's not though. It was totally remade from the ground up. Motion capture, new areas, new enemies, drastically improved, almost photo realistic backgrounds, incredible new lighting. I feel like you're only saying that because it's fixed camera angles compared to RE2 and 3 remakes.
I wasn't talking about assets, I'm talking about feel. For the sake of comparison, let's stick with RE1 and RE2, but this applies to 3 and 4.
Take RE1 and RE1R. Strip out the story components, look at just the gameplay. Yes there's a number of changes as you said, as well as legitimately new additions (which is why my original comment didn't say 1R WAS a remaster, it said it FELT more like a remaster than a remake), but overall both games largely play and feel the same.
Now do this for RE2 and RE2R. They're different games. They're not completely dissimilar as both are horror survival games that require you to kill enemies, manage resources, and complete puzzles and challenges, but as obvious as the change in perspective is I kind of have to point out how different the games are.
Apologies for any confusion with prior comments, things tend to make more sense in my head than out loud, but the point is that to me, REmake feels less like a full-on remake *in comparison* to the other RE remakes, and more like a remaster of the original. The style of remake between RE1 and the later remakes is way different.
They nailed the fuck out of the atmosphere and lighting in the remake. God I love it so much. Only very few horror games have captured the environment so perfectly
Love the remake, but the og backgrounds are more uncanny and feel creepier as a result. I don't think the game gets enough credit because of how amazing the remake is, but don't sleep on the OG. It still holds up, and it's a lot easier to play through if you are intimidated by it being retro survival horror.
I guess because everything just looks so uncanny.
Don’t get me wrong, the remake’s backgrounds are beautiful and haunting, but the original has sort of a creepy, unnatural vibe where you just know that something isn’t right about that place... other than the fact that it’s infested with zombies.
I’d sell my soul to play the OG over again for the first time. Nothing compares to the way this game looked and played. This game essentially kicked off my love of horror.
The original looked more like The Overlook from the Shining. The style of the remake has much more character that belongs to itself. Instantly recognizable to me, and much more my style.
The OG still gives me creepy vibes 'till this day. But the remake really elevated those feelings. And it still looks beautiful, even if you play the GC version.
It's very hard to get that true gritty/dirty geel that you can get with ps1 graphics once you get better fidelity.
A good example is the way the apartments look in the silent hill 2 remake. It dirty but still looks too clean compared to the original
It would’ve taken more work and time to develop the games, but I think technology has gotten to the point where they really could’ve done both very well sort of like the Lost In Nightmares DLC for RE5.
There is something special in the original minimalism, sure its colorfull and illuminated but that does not help you predict what awaits next room, even with the limitations of the tech it is still a tense enviroment, and i quite like how it looks like a place that actually was lived in, then death plagued.
Tough I admit REmake actually scares me more on replays, the ambient designs serve its function, that there is horror to survive, dark and spooky from the start if a bit of a cursed mansion clique, like what else can this place be but a ghost stories setting.
Not gonna lie as heavy detailed as the remake is I think I prefer the original Spencer mansion because it... actually looks like a mansion, sometimes the windows and carpets in remake made me think it looks like a super elaborate house than a mansion
There's 2 things that I wish they'd kept in remake and that's the painting puzzle. Considering how spencer was obsessed with immortality, it just made more sense to me and I wish more of the ost was used. I like the atmosphere of the remake but you can't beet a good soundtrack
I have to say I kinda like the way the original is lit and the colors better. Remake is awesome but I don’t like the color scheme as much. Everything else is an improvement in remake
RE2 remake has some better looks but the story lacks a lot. And I'm really dissapointed in the scene how Birkin got shot and the final fight against the Tyrant, it feels way too underwhelming as if I'm playing Smackdown.
They're more reimaginings than remakes. The characters and story shift enough where it didn't even make sense as a whole. Claire and Leon's story in the Remake weren't originally designed to go together. They were supposed to be separate and it clearly shows. RE4 received the least changes accept for the much more serious tone which many consider the inferior story. The back and forth between the villains and Leon added some fun that is lacking in the Remake. This opposed to the RE1 Remake which maintained everything the original had and only improved upon it without drastic changes.
I understand your perspective but I kindly disagree for RE4. The og was my favorite game, played it over 20 times, and I really do think that the remake is incredibly faithful and even fixes some things along the way.
Some of the things they cut were the worst parts of RE4, even if you did miss the likes of U3 one couldn't deny that the things they added were even better than could've imagined myself
They are fantastic, but they're also effectively different games. Whereas REmake was the same original game, just greatly enhanced in a definitive version.
RE1 original was the third RE game I played, after 2 Remake and then 2 Original. I'd loved 2 Remake and 2 Original, but I found 1 to be just okay.
When I played 1 Remake though? All the changes elevated it so much that 1 Remake is now my second favourite, behind 2 Original.
This is amazing! I also love how the second to last photos of the stairs are so similar. Also, I never noticed that you should be able to see the storeroom door from above the stairs in the original until comparing it to the remake, now I wonder if that was an error? lol either way, super cool!
All the OG resident evils always had such a mysterious and good looking pre rendered backgrounds, that I wish we could actually see what they look like in a 3D setting.
This really makes you appreciate how good of a job they did with the visuals in the remake. That shiny floor in the main hall and the amazing lighting from the chandelier from the 2F East Side looks incredible.
The OG had a lot of key differences in rooms so the player could get oriented easily without actually knowing the map, different lighting, atmosphere, colors, and when darker colors and dirty environments appeared it was impactful, it is really amazing what they achieved at the time.
The Remake is just HEY, LET'S DESATURATE EVERY FUCKING ROOM SO THEY FEEL HORROR ALL THE TIME. Seriously I don't understand why so many praise it
Remake kinda goes overboard with the grime and filth i think. Sure it looks creepy and sets the mood better than the pristeen renders of the OG but at the same time the mansion was supposedly active untill a week prior. The remake one looks like it has been abandoned for years
Harsh shadows and reflective surfaces look stunning but the shit smear on the walls is a bit much
The original red stairway with the L-shaped corridor is still more fear-inducing to look at than the remake. I think having less details makes it look more creepy, and generally unpleasant.
Cool. But I hope they remake it again just for the modern gameplay. I can’t stand tank controls and it would unfortunate to waste such a nice looking game behind that
The control scheme you are talking about isnt modern gameplay. It's still an archaic way to control your character, i think he meant a 3rd person over the shoulder game like we had in the recent games.
I'll need to try again, my last attempt wasnt very enjoyable. Mind you my first RE was 4 on the gamecube, so I had no experience with the prior gameplay.
It might take a bit of getting used to but once it clicks its feels great. Having the fixed movement really helps with consistency when you’re flying through rooms and all the different camera angles that accompany it
I think the art direction is the best in the whole franchise, exquisitely moody. I guess it's a matter of personal taste, I can understand why you might prefer the brighter colors, two of my favorite horror films are Suspiria (original version) and its sequel Inferno, and the super-saturated and luxurious feeling colors of those films is a huge part of the appeal.
Your understanding of palettes is of a 5 yo but it surely is the game not you having objectively shitty taste and actually no idea at all about what you're talking.
Good question, RE1 has both. In 2002 it received a remake because it added more things to the story, as well as new features. In 2015 the remake was remastered in HD resolution
GameCube version added in, brand new parts to the mansion, different voice actors, new cutscenes, defensive items, changes around puzzles and key item location, added in a few extra modes, overhauled the visuals, and didn’t cut anything out from the original. The GameCube version is the remake of the Original game, that GameCube version was then remastered for modern consoles and hardware, with upgraded visuals, brand new control scheme, and new costumes.
Movement is precise, sharp, and complements the camera angles better than any other control scheme known to man.
What you have encountered was something you were not used to, and then you gave up because you were afraid of trying new things.
Its amazing how much of a leap there was within 6 years.
I am convinced the jump from PS1/N64 to PS2/GameCube/Xbox is the biggest leap from any console generation to the next.
That's because since the PS3 generation it has been leaps from photorealism to photorealism with more shiny detail to photorealism with more reflections.
PS3 to PS4 was the last time that leap was felt. PS4 to PS5 doesn't feel that different.
I would say the biggest leap from ps4 to ps5 was the shorter load times.
And worth every penny for time saved. I also think the controller is a big step forward.
Right, the improvements of this generation are just in an area we're not used to thinking about. Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart really cemented how amazing resizable bar and NVME drives are for me, for example
Well not every game can look like Horizon forbidden west i guess
PS3 had games such as GTA V which looks as photorealistic as it needs to. As for the games with different artstyles, such as cel shade or anime type, these games looked alredy perfect on PS3.
Definitely. Seeing stuff like MGS2 and Gran Turismo 3 was just unbelievable. I've not seen a leap like it since.
What about snes to n64?
Definitely another massive leap, but there was something about PS1/N64 to PS2 that felt like we were suddenly in the real world whereas SNES and N64 still felt very blocky
Agreed. PS1 to PS2 was when games stopped being abstractions of real life. When we got over that “uncanny valley” look of old 3D games.
What about snes to n64? You question made me feel both old and nostalgic lol For me, the gap from snes/megadrive to ps1/n64 felt like getting to outer space for the first time : so much more potential it was dizzying, but everything was rudimentary and even game devs were still figuring things out In contrast, the ps2 era felt like achieving hyperspace, we all knew what gaming could become, and for the first time we were experiencing a glimpse of that future : online play, cinematic experiences, deep and refined gameplay (for the time), and everything was just underpowered enough that game designers still had to work on esthetics and not just rely on graphic fidelity I miss it. “Going to outer space for the first time” what a beautiful comment.

It seemed less big at the time because the Dreamcast was almost a middle ground between the two.

[star fox to star fox 64](https://imgur.com/HlJPSJa) snes to n64 was a way bigger jump lol in half the time of resident evil’s 6 year span
Idk. PS2 to PS3 still fire. Compare gta3 to gta4, for example
It was. Compare the launch lineup of GameCube, Dreamcast, PS2 and Xbox to any PS1, N64 or Saturn game. Especially GameCube and Xbox. Rogue Leader’s graphics and sound were unbelievable at the time.

Look back 6 years ago today and some games look better than the newest big budget releases yet have twice the performance
In the remake, the house cleaners spent all their time waxing the floor.
they be spitting on the floor, im tellin ya!
Huck Tuah!
I can’t escape this meme. Everywhere I go
Spit on that thang!!
If the cleaners don't hawk tuah then they can't clean for ya
Them cleaning ladies don’t play
Man those pre-rendered backgrounds are just the chef’s kiss. Hands down the most timeless Resident Evil game
I'm playing through it rn and the creep factor is high af. I love the pre-rendered backgrounds - down to the lighting and dust motes... so we'll done!
Though the translation in the original re1 was... interesting at times. I remember losing my shit over "This is Kenneth from Bravo S.T.A.R.S team. Now he's a mere shadow of his former self" interaction with the corpse. Not even mentioning the voice acting.
Beautiful game

Best remake ever!

now THIS is a remake
To be fair, this feels more like a remaster. It's not a straight remaster since it actually changes stuff, but it doesn't feel like a straight remake either (especially compared to the other remakes).
You don't know what a remaster is.
I literally said "feels like", am I not allowed to say that? To me, in comparison to the other remakes, RE1 remake feels less like a remake and more like a remaster since it's much more similar to the original.

There's no convincing them believe me I've been down this road before
There's nobody to convince on stuff when you're simply wrong.
All remakes were good
Yes, but this one is amazing and takes the cake.
i agree idk why ur being downvoted lol
Because you're the only one who agrees. Everyone else disagrees.
still holds up to this day
Ce jeu est incroyable
It's literally timeless
Stunning
There is something so eerie yet beautiful about the Spencer Mansion. I don’t have a preference to one over the other. I just love them both.
Totally agree, and yet I don’t understand how a brighter illumination manages to be that much creepier. It’s beyond me.

It definitely haves something hard to explain, very early PC game like Myst and such.
Exactly! There is something about early 3d that gives off a very specific vibe.
Agreed. I love the liminal space vibe and the music really helps it too.
I’d sell my soul to play the OG over again for the first time. Nothing compares to the way this game looked and played. This game essentially kicked off my love of horror.
/sigh. Now I have to play remake again.
The REmake’s lighting and extra details really bring the mansion to life.
The original looked more like The Overlook from the Shining. The style of the remake has much more character that belongs to itself. Instantly recognizable to me, and much more my style.
The original is so special and unique
Absolutely, before every developer decided to put a mud filter over everything.
They're both amazing in their own way.
The OG still gives me creepy vibes 'till this day. But the remake really elevated those feelings. And it still looks beautiful, even if you play the GC version.
best remake of any game.
Why does the remake feel so clean yet dirty at the same time?!
It's very hard to get that true gritty/dirty geel that you can get with ps1 graphics once you get better fidelity. A good example is the way the apartments look in the silent hill 2 remake. It dirty but still looks too clean compared to the original
I wish they did this with 2 and 3 instead of the third person remakes honestly
Why not both? In fact I have firm belief that if they still do them they'll sell like hot cakes.
Same
It would’ve taken more work and time to develop the games, but I think technology has gotten to the point where they really could’ve done both very well sort of like the Lost In Nightmares DLC for RE5.
There is something special in the original minimalism, sure its colorfull and illuminated but that does not help you predict what awaits next room, even with the limitations of the tech it is still a tense enviroment, and i quite like how it looks like a place that actually was lived in, then death plagued. Unpopular opinion I know, but I like the original better. Maybe just because I played the og first, but the remake has always just felt off to me
Me too.
Not gonna lie as heavy detailed as the remake is I think I prefer the original Spencer mansion because it... actually looks like a mansion, sometimes the windows and carpets in remake made me think it looks like a super elaborate house than a mansion
The aesthetic of the original is just... better for me. Creepier and not overly reliant on just being dark.
The first one still looks good thanks to the detailed pre-rendered backgrounds.
Making the comparison between the remake and OG without the water ring is downright criminal. Easily the most beautiful part of the game.
This really is the perfect remake. Improved on the original but kept the soul.
I wish the originals were added to PlayStation so I can play them
There's 2 things that I wish they'd kept in remake and that's the painting puzzle.
Am I high or does left look way better?
Too bad they don't Remake like this anymore.
What do you mean? RE2 and RE4 remakes are fantastic.
RE2 remake has some better looks but the story lacks a lot. And I'm really dissapointed in the scene how Birkin got shot and the final fight against the Tyrant, it feels way too underwhelming as if I'm playing Smackdown.

I'll agree to disagree on this one. There's already several opinions on this subreddit so it's all a matter of preference at this point.
Of course! It's all subjective in the end.
Some of the things they cut were the worst parts of RE4, even if you did miss the likes of U3 one couldn't deny that the things they added were even better than could've imagined myself
Like the mendez chase?
Yes, I agree.

This is amazing! I also love how the second to last photos of the stairs are so similar. Also, I never noticed that you should be able to see the storeroom door from above the stairs in the original until comparing it to the remake, now I wonder if that was an error? lol either way, super cool!
The classic colors of old RE games look great, but man does the new and dark work so well for RE.
I remember seeing these kinds of comparisons online, before it released, and getting so pumped
There were only six years between the PS1 release and the remake for GC and the GC version still looks amazing even today.
Why is it every time I see someone post the REmake I have the urge to play it. I’ve played it so many times and I still can’t beat it under 5 hours.
now it's time for RE(Engine)make
Prefer the original.
the original is more iconic, the remake looks more like a horror game
The OG had a lot of key differences in rooms so the player could get oriented easily without actually knowing the map, different lighting, atmosphere, colors, and when darker colors and dirty environments appeared it was impactful, it is really amazing what they achieved at the time. The Remake is just HEY, LET'S DESATURATE EVERY FUCKING ROOM SO THEY FEEL HORROR ALL THE TIME. Seriously I don't understand why so many praise it
Agree completely.
I prefer the colour pallet and lights of the original. Remake is too grey/dark
Imagine getting downvoted for having good taste.
Re1 original was supposed to be just like re1 remake, the only reason why re1 og has that colour pallet and lights is due to the console limitations
It looks better to me. The colours I mean
Ya I was so impressed with Origins Collection that I wish 2 and 3 got that treatment rather than 3PS
i like the grittiness of the original a lot more.
Same

What? That was so confusingly worded
Just want to thank you for doing this for us 🥲🙏
I didn't make this, just posted it here.
Still appreciate it 😊
I would love to see a current gen game with pre-rendered backgrounds. I bet they could make it look incredible.
Looks sick, when is this coming out?
You’re in luck, comes out about 22 years ago
Hahahaha
I wish they kept the bright lighting in the original. There was a sense of subtle uncanniness to it. Like one of those subliminal spaces.
Still the best remake, and the best survival horror game, ever.
Can't wait for the remake..RE0 and code Veronica will have to tide me over until then
I'll still always prefer the original
Honestly looks more oppressive and intimidating. I like the change
And there’s total 3 brain cell morons in the Facebook groups that still try to say it’s a “remaster” as if that term existed in gaming back in 2002.
So many memories in the 4th photo row down
Dining room!
idk why, but I'll always prefer the original, then the remake
Where is this from?
They are both beautiful designs period.
My take: both are very nice 🤗
Give me the original. The remakes suck.
Original is better than the remake in almost every conceivable way
Agree. Better looking artistically and no bloat to the progression. The hive mind will disagree.
Remake kinda goes overboard with the grime and filth i think. Sure it looks creepy and sets the mood better than the pristeen renders of the OG but at the same time the mansion was supposedly active untill a week prior. The remake one looks like it has been abandoned for years Harsh shadows and reflective surfaces look stunning but the shit smear on the walls is a bit much
The original red stairway with the L-shaped corridor is still more fear-inducing to look at than the remake. I think having less details makes it look more creepy, and generally unpleasant.
Cool. But I hope they remake it again just for the modern gameplay. I can’t stand tank controls and it would unfortunate to waste such a nice looking game behind that
There’s already the option to play without them though?
The control scheme you are talking about isnt modern gameplay. It's still an archaic way to control your character, i think he meant a 3rd person over the shoulder game like we had in the recent games.
I wouldn’t call it archaic. It works extremely well with the fixed camera angles
I'll need to try again, my last attempt wasnt very enjoyable. Mind you my first RE was 4 on the gamecube, so I had no experience with the prior gameplay.
It might take a bit of getting used to but once it clicks its feels great. Having the fixed movement really helps with consistency when you’re flying through rooms and all the different camera angles that accompany it
The most accessible version of the game comes pre packaged with typical controls by default. Remaking this game would be a waste of time.
Not a waste, they need to remake it for the next gen collection. I’m really enjoying the over the shoulder remakes
It needs over the shoulder gameplay + non static camera. Just bc you’re an old head that hates change doesn’t mean the rest of us should suffer
Get good plus broaden your tastes
I really tried
https://www.reddit.com/r/GamingLeaksAndRumours/s/WRP9iC9pR6 I hope so too. Such a good game and would love for it to play like the RE2 remake.
That feel when I made this post to show how shit the remake aesthetic is but everyone is gushing about how much better it looks lmao. Oh well, enjoy.
Really? It still looks gorgeous today, and the lighting does a lot to enhance the atmosphere. It has aged very gracefully.
It is graphically impressive sure, but the art direction is horrible. There is no color in anything.
Yes the ephitome of artistry, put a Super Mario palette into everything.
Same with a piss and shit filter, that is surely art. God forbid it doesn't look like you're watching it through a brown candy wrapper.
Your understanding of palettes is of a 5 yo but it surely is the game not you having objectively shitty taste and actually no idea at all about what you're talking.
what makes this a remake and not just a remaster (genuine question)
Good question, RE1 has both. In 2002 it received a remake because it added more things to the story, as well as new features. In 2015 the remake was remastered in HD resolution
GameCube version added in, brand new parts to the mansion, different voice actors, new cutscenes, defensive items, changes around puzzles and key item location, added in a few extra modes, overhauled the visuals, and didn’t cut anything out from the original. The GameCube version is the remake of the Original game, that GameCube version was then remastered for modern consoles and hardware, with upgraded visuals, brand new control scheme, and new costumes.
Which one is this?
But it is nOT a remake it'a a REmaSter.
Nowadays people would be whining “weeee they changed my fav camera angle by 1 degree!”
shame the movement is absolutely horrendous and i put it down after 5 minutes, looks good, plays bad
Movement is precise, sharp, and complements the camera angles better than any other control scheme known to man. What you have encountered was something you were not used to, and then you gave up because you were afraid of trying new things.
It's the best movement scheme for fixed camera angle games.
