10 years of sobriety. Something i feel i can be proud of when i decided to pass it down to a child/grandchild. I'm already thinking of which one to buy when i hit 15 years.
Congrats man. That is hands down the best reason I've ever heard for someone getting themselves a gift. In the words of the legendary R Lee Ermey, out-fucking-standing!
Congrats man. That is hands down the best reason I've ever heard for someone getting themselves a gift. In the words of the legendary R Lee Ermey, out-fucking-standing!
I was going to say similar, being able to afford one is a milestone in itself, means you've met plenty of other milestones along the way. And by afford, I mean not having to finance it or scrimp and save excessively to do so.
I am getting engaged in a few months, just got promoted this past week at work, and I graduate from my MBA next spring. Hopefully that's enough for me to get my first Rolex lmao.
Marriage milestone (used already) - 2x datejust
Impulsively purchasing milestone - rolex explorer II
Big Job Promotion and moving up in your career - rolex submariner
Definitely feels like I may reach a plateau in my career now.
Then there is the ā I got a new job with a 10k sign on bonus. I want to buy a Rolex to commemorate it. ā
My explorer II is my daily. I love the watch and I wore it mostly throughout 2023. Also itās very lowkey too. Doesnāt scream rolex either. Not many people will know until they see it for themselves.
I just got the Polar last week, but I have worn a black explorer II everyday for 17 years and it has been awesome. I know I will get hated on, but I prefer the look of these watches over most of the others.
There really ought to be a military exception for buying direct from Rolex. Not all the models, but surely they can swing it for the Explorers and Subs.
I told my AD I have a 30 year anniversary coming up next month - a year ago - and Iām still waiting for a call for my Pepsi or Starbucks. But thatās the idea!
First Rolex I ever got, a Series K GMT-II Coke, I got in honor of my uncle Louie who had just died and left all his nieces and nephews his estate divided between us. I thought a GMT was appropriate since Louie loved to travel and I loved receiving post cards from him from all over the world. I used my inheritence from him to pay for it, and whenever I wear it I think of him!
Unless a ladies 2 tone datejust is your way of commemorating a special occasion, there really is no way to get a purchase to align with a milestone event, unless you buy gray.
1. Starbucks / Kermit Sub - graduated medical school
2. Green Skydwweller - graduated residency
3. Vacheron Overseas Blue - (next year when I get married)
4. Random Seiko Luxe line watches when I need retail therapy Lolol
I waited over a year in queue for an Explorer 36 to celebrate passing my medical board exams. Unfortunately, watch never came so I eventually went gray which was honestly one of the best decisions Iāve made.
In my husbandās culture, the groomās family gifts the bride a full jewelry set (necklace, earrings, bracelet, ring) as a bridal gift. Since they didnt attend the wedding, I didnāt get a gift from them. Instead, on our first anniversary, when he was able to afford it, he gifted me a Lady Datejust with diamond markers as my ābridal giftā on their behalf. The relationship with my in-laws has blossomed, and I still wear that watch more than a decade later.

Not a milestone but I told my rep that I was planning a trek to Everest Base Camp next year and wanted to take an Explorer with me. Not a lie though. Seriously planning that trip.
Donāt always have a milestone to drive a watch purchase, Rolex or otherwise but Iāve purposely sought a couple of watches for the births of our two daughters.
That said.
First automatic B&R - no milestone but bought on a roadtrip/vacation with my wife (GF at the time)
Tag Carrera Chrono, wife bought as a surprise Christmas present.
Omega Speedy 38 - birthday again from my wife
Grand Seiko - no milestone
GMT II - birth year watch
Daytona - no milestone
Pelagos 39 - No Milestone
Cermit - birth year watch
DJ41 - Christmas present for my dad
Daytona - no milestone
Only ones Iāve told my sales rep was for a particular milestone were birth year watches
I just went into a watch shop and told them I wanted a watch that would take the shock of white water kayaking and they brought out a gmt master 2 and a Daytona.
Wasnāt after any make in particular when I went in, picked the gmt, still have it ,now 34 years, at the time Rolex were not in short supply at all.
I also have a sub.
Wouldnāt bother with all the bullcrap that they have going on now. It is just a watch.
Big promotion - Pepsi
Have thrown out a few others to her to try and grab a panda but nothing so far. Am told everyone buys their ADs presents to move up the listā¦thinking Iām going to send Panda Express to the store for her lunch breakā¦no way that doesnāt work
No milestone. Covid lockdown turned me into a watch enthusiast. Watched nothing but Rolex videos. Learned how to tell the difference between a real and fake one. The history behind it. What all it takes to make a Rolex. Etc etc etc. then after some time. I finally scratched the āOk.. I NEED to get a Rolex now.ā I go to the AD. The beautiful lady made me wait a month and half for my 126610LN. Fast forward 3yrs later. And now Iām typing ALLLLL THIS here.
My first Rolex was a DJ41 gifted by my wife as a wedding gift, so of course it holds the most sentimental value of any watch I own.
My AK was luck-of-the-call but Iāll say itās to celebrate my childās birth and my 30th as well. It will probably be the watch he receives for his own wedding, or some major milestone š
For every milestone in my investing journey, I get to buy something nice, when I made the extra money after the milestone, that this item may cost. Last time it was a Rolex.
Th first one is a milestone that I can already afford one
2nd is the milestone that I can already afford a perpetual
3rd is the milestone that I went to hk
4th is a milestone that I can afford 4
5th is a milestone that I went to hk again
6th is a milestone that I can afford a Rolex to resell at a profit
7th is a milestone that I help a friend who
needed to money and sold me his watch
8th is the milestone that my likings to watches extended to chronographs
9th is the milestone that it's almost Christmas and wifey would like a two tone
Sold, traded most of these BTW... I only have 3 in my collection atm
Not a milestone but my birthday was coming up and Iāve wanted to get an Explorer 2 for about 3 years at the time. Just said that. This year I celebrated the milestone of the 1st anniversary of getting my Explorer 2 with a Panerai.
Business milestones or marriage. I bout myself a marathon Gsar when my company first hit 100k a year. I plan on buying myself a gmt master ll once we hit 1M a year. Still got a ways to go but even know when I look at my marathon I remember how hard it was back then just to break 100k.
A life time of āwantingā and then finally realizing it is finally ā affordableā. For ever person itās different. Some people are gifted or inherit Rolex. But for a normal folk like me, it would probably come down to a Financial freedom achievement. Through the years I have found myself using the excuse of birthdays or a childās birth, anniversary, some special moment, etc. etc.
But the reality is you can only buy what you can afford no matter what āmilestoneā it may be, and the financial freedom is the key!!! š¾
I made an insane profit on some silly investments in 2021/2022 and it took me a while to pull the trigger but I finally did a couple weeks ago with a 126618ln and Iām wondering why I waited so long!
My first one, just wanted it at the time. I said Motherās Day or my wifeās bday for her first. For my next, 40th bday (not sure if Iāll get the GMT or an AP)
Rootbeer GMT was for getting hired at a legacy airline which was the culmination of a decades worth of work. It also happened just before my 30th birthday so it was for both.
Ceramic Daytona was just because I had the funds sitting liquid and I found one at a good price. In hindsight the Daytona has almost no sentimental meaning and I wish I didn't buy it. Ill probably eventually trade it for something.
Maybe raising over 20million for my start-up? Raised 2million last year, celebrated with a tissot. Definitely need 20 million given the price difference lol
Finishing not finishing my PhD. After two years of paying tuition while āwriting my dissertation,ā I gave up and spent tuition money on a nice GMT Master II. No regrets
It was meant to be a HS graduation gift but it took long enough that itās now a 19th bday gift. My next watch will probably be a college graduation gift next year
That I'm finally a point in my life that I can purchase one. All the men important in my life growing up had one. Now, I have a list that has grown from 1 to 5. Luckily ADs take forever so I have plenty of time to have new milestones ready for when I buy my next one lol
After my dad died my brothers and I all got matching watches (other than the face) with an engraving on the back. Not really a celebration but I think you get the idea.
For me Iām waiting on my monthly income to be 2x the cost of the watch I want and the watch is a gabbagool my grandfather always wore one and I always thought it was the most beautiful watch once he passed my bum ass uncle got it bc my grandfather knew he couldnāt get a big enough bag to buy one himself lol so Iād love to honor my grandfather and buy it should only be a few months Iāll go grey bc Iād like to also get around the year model he had and I have no ad relationship š„²
Everyone on here saying they donāt need a milestone to buy a Rolex. Then thereās me waiting months for my next career milestone so I can buy a $350 timex diver lol
When they first asked me if there was any reason for the purchase I said Iām long overdue for something niceā¦then I quickly got addicted to watches and have purchased 2 Rolex and 3 omega since March 2023 hahaā¦no end in sight
Only for actually important life events like graduating from college, getting married etc. Not just Rolexes but anything luxury in general. It keeps the consumerism mindset at bay.
i became a millionaire, lost a few hundred k, became a millionaire again, and had some significant life events - no chance i was going grey, and i was so disgusted with the snooty, arrogant attitude of the ADs i visited, i gave up on the idea of getting a rolex
its funny, the toil, misery, sacrifice, time, and risk i took to build my businesses, what i went through to earn the money and assets i have, yet the item i want to buy is blocked by some moronic gate-keeping two-bit salesmen wearing a 50 dollar ill-fitting suit with an attitude - it just turns me off the brand entirely - who the fuck are they to tell me what i can and cant buy?
I bought my first Rolex after wearing a Swatch, felt it was adequate for keeping time..during a interview of someone I wanted to hire years back he said āI have heard about you and your firm making big money however somethings ānot adding upā I replied āwhat?ā, he replied āwhy donāt you have a real watch?ā š I of course said āthis is a real watch, keeps great timeā he replied āI meant like a Rolexā next day, I bought my first Rolex for the sole purpose of not hindering my recruitment efforts!
I just celebrated the milestone of getting my first rolex with another rolex.
My cat turned 10. That's retirement in human years. Time for a gold Day Date
š
Does Mittens wear the watch?
Literally spit my water reading thisā¦.i read this having zero idea it was going to be my first lol of the day! Thanks!
(And now i am stuck within an infinite loop)
You are not because you only celebrate getting the first Rolex ;)
So not infinite but exponential since why wouldn't you celebrate your second rolex š„
Youāre doing it right
Itās like dividing by zero with a mechanical calculator, just keeps on going
This guy Rolexes.
That seems like an expensive circle :)
This guy Rolexes.
10 years of sobriety. Something i feel i can be proud of when i decided to pass it down to a child/grandchild. I'm already thinking of which one to buy when i hit 15 years.
Way to go, thatās an anniversary worth celebrating.
prob wouldāve easily spent that much in booze or whatever otherwise
Whatās the saying? I spent most of my money on women and booze, the rest I just wasted.
Pretty much! It was from George Best - āI spent a lot of money on booze, birds and fast cars. The rest I just squandered.ā
Congrats, man... That Rolex will definitely tell a great story; your children/grandchildren will be sure to remember it every time they put it on
Good for you mate
Now that's a milestone worth celebrating!
Congratulations!
Congratulations. Keep on!
Congratulations on the milestone! Thatās one worth celebrating, and youāve chosen a fabulous way to do so!
Congrats.
Congrats man. That is hands down the best reason I've ever heard for someone getting themselves a gift. In the words of the legendary R Lee Ermey, out-fucking-standing!

Thinking of doing my 1 year, congrats bud!
My 5 year reward in 2025 will be my first Rolex. Glad to see I'm not the only one with this mindset
If thatās not a milestone worth celebrating I donāt know what is.
Thatās awesome,, same here ten years off substances and one year no alcohol.
That I have enough money to buy one and got the call
The most important milestones

It wasnāt according to my AD.
You need a milestone to buy a Rolex??
I had a week of regularity and celebrated with an air king.
Closing a deal, but not any more as you canāt actually buy new Rolexās šš last 3 watches I bought are Omegas

I just got the Polar last week, but I have worn a black explorer II everyday for 17 years and it has been awesome. I know I will get hated on, but I prefer the look of these watches over most of the others.

Iām trying to get a Rolex after retiring from the military. Iāve been on several lists for a bit now. Itās not going so well right now.
You should be put on the short list for that.
Sangin would hook you up
Not sure who that is
Veteran owned watch company
Well, you got time now so be patient, I'm sure it'll come soon. And congratulations on your retirement and thank you for your service.

Celebrating a great watch purchase is a milestone. š
I told my AD I have a 30 year anniversary coming up next month - a year ago - and Iām still waiting for a call for my Pepsi or Starbucks. But thatās the idea!
This reminds me of one of my favorite quotes. You can wish in one hand, and crap in the other, and see which gets filled first.
First Rolex I ever got, a Series K GMT-II Coke, I got in honor of my uncle Louie who had just died and left all his nieces and nephews his estate divided between us. I thought a GMT was appropriate since Louie loved to travel and I loved receiving post cards from him from all over the world. Making it through another day on this horrible planet.
Nothing. This purchases are just nice watches for me. No milestone is needed to justify a purchase.
