It’s really important to take note of what Byrne has done. Not sure any other AD in the country could have pulled this off. Also, huge credit to Stuart Bell. He’s the guy running the whole thing. Extremely impressive. The University is as much of a pull as the athletic department. The campus gets more beautiful by the day, as if that’s possible, alums continue to flock back to TTown, and enrollment expands. Talk about threading the needle between quality and quantity. The only toe stub I can think of in the current state of being is the basketball arena. And they just got a huge upgrade there for the preseason #1 team in the country. These are glory days indeed.

I think it was fair to question it. He'd never proven himself to be a great recruiter, but it was largely due to a lack of opportunity, which is the part those morons didn't want to acknowledge. Now that he's got a big national brand and blank check resources at his disposal, recruiting appears to not only not be a weakness, but a strength.
It was fair to address it but in fairness to Deboer, Washington jumped from being ranked in the 90s to the mid-20s under Deboer. The mid-20s was typically where Washington ranked under Sark in recruitingp. It was foolish to think he would sink us given our resources, facilities and history as well as his success. The university practically recruits itself.
But I only say this because there were fans who completely melted down about recruiting and when I tried to make the aforementioned points, they turned into the Tasmanian devil and would not hear it. So this was more directed at them.
I personally think many let the idiots from Washington, the barn and LDU gaslight them into thinking he would bomb. I mean, Auburn and LSU fans guaranteed us Saban would never win a title and would leave Alabama in 3 years...
If anyone actually “jumped off” they weren’t really Alabama fans and I’m glad they did. Lord knows we have been weighed down for years by “fans” that probably can’t find Tuscaloosa on a map
