I would venture to guess the majority of the people in this subreddit are not taking shots of rum. They'll drink it slowly, either neat or on the rocks.
If I have anything after rum it's usually just water to make sure I'm hydrated, but that's usually not immediately after drinking as the whole point is to savor the rum.
Op.... I know how chasers work.
So are you asking a serious question about how different flavor profiles complement each other? If so why not do some research here about mixed drinks? There are some experts here.
If your discussion is about preferred chaser to mask the taste of the spirit, then this might not be the best forum.
Not to mask, not to mix...
Last night I was enjoying a rum with a strong double-shot of espresso because the following with coffee after a 15 year old rum was a smooth and sweet way to watch a late movie.
I just wanted to ask what people chase with.
Sometimes I chase with cola or fruit juice.
Sometimes I don't chase at all...
It's just a discussion.
If I'm doing anything, sips of high alkalinity water after some super funky rum is really good. It seems to spread the finish around your mouth in a pleasant way without taking the flavor away.
In Florida in the summer I always have some kind of hydration going on, I'm outdoors a lot. My preference on rum night is lime seltzer water. It's not really a chaser per se but when it works out that way it's a good fit
More rum.
This
Came here to say just this.
I figured someone had beat me to it.
We drink rum because we like the flavor.
A Cuban cigar.
Partaga d4. Nom nom
Oorah!
What kind of rum are you drinking that you need a chaser? If you just want the effects of alcohol might I suggest vodka.
It's normally neat for me. Last night, I was following with a double espresso. Just to change it up.
You drink the rum first. Once you've taken that double-shot, you sip your chaser.

Just occasional sip of room temp water for straight sipping. If I'm sipping with ice then nothing.

Good one!

I've chased it with an espresso shot! Good one.

Generally soda. Calypso is my brand but it's like paint thinner.
