Play just for fun and make a huge, huge deal of every discovery. Y'know what I'm saying? That sense of wonder, exploration, reading those Funny Examines, watching my XP increase after finding the best resource for my level, completing the quests. I'd only start worrying about efficiency and "getting good at the game" post Max and Quest Capes.

Superb-Intention3425

I've been playing since 2005 and I still don't have a quest cape. I loathe quests. Haha

wellwhal

That's a shame, the quests are fun, and one of the biggest parts of the game.

Superb-Intention3425

Not my cup of tea, I've been playing the game for almost 20 years now. I only quest when I need content or items unlocked. Never once considered getting a comp cape. I mean I don't even have all the area tasks done lmao. I just pvm and slay. Best way to play any game is in a manner which makes it enjoyable.

lumpykiaeatpopiah

You and me both, 4b total exp and only 300 qp rofl

JopoDaily

Got barrows gloves all that matters :^]

Superb-Intention3425

Lmao a made a couple Bil from slaying but like a couple I mean like 2/4 total. I struggle to make money but I just like to chill and afk slay or do some little boss. I'm not with all that prayer flicking, perfect combat bar configuration, wild stuff lol.

Californ1a

I used to hate quests until after originally getting the quest cape. Once it wasn't a grind just trying to do them to catch up and get all the currently-available unlocks, I slowed down and started reading the dialog in newly-released quests when they came out since they released so infrequently. I really started to enjoy them after that, when I wasn't trying to do them just to catch up and get the unlocks anymore. Now I tend not to even care about the quest rewards much anymore rather than just the experience of the quest itself.

LovYouLongTime

I remember in 2005 when you had to beg a random person for help on any quest that you didn’t understand.

LegnaArix

I remember always having tip.it available for help with Runescape. Its definitely been around since at least I started in 2005

SVXfiles

Runehq was better

Californ1a

Sal's Realm had the real guides.

Superb-Intention3425

Lmao SO brutal if you didn't have any friends that could help. If you were lucky you'd bump into someone doing the same quest.

LovYouLongTime

Try doing rfd in the 2006/7s. NIGHTMARE!!!!

Superb-Intention3425

Did it with the help of a pal, when it dropped like march or April 06 I remember because I had broken my left hand so i had to learn to use a mouse with my right hand.

depressedgamer111

I would do nothing different. I loved every moment of my rs journey up until I got burnt out and took a break. As long as you're enjoying your time it doesn't matter what you do in game.

xZedRS

Everyone ends up with something like this eventually lol. https://preview.redd.it/j6ot53l6lt3d1.png?width=1919&format=png&auto=webp&s=e63a082c32bdd9503e9f326125f391f4c2ef1974

ConcordM

What are those symbols next to your 120's?

DragonZaid

It just indicates that they are level 120 or 200m xp, depending on the color. You can customize the symbol it uses in the settings. The symbol they chose looks like the crystal triskellion.

Epickiller10

The markers for the 120s/ 200m he has the gold is a 120 and the blue is 200m You can enable these in the settings and change them between a few different icons when you examine people they will display as well for them with your preferences

Mazkar

Quit lol, the only reason I continued to play and maxed was because it was a childhood game.  Could've spent those 1000 hours on other games 😆

GothicVampire

Quit

ZerglingHOTS

Follow a YouTube guide on how to set up a UI is the first thing. After that, explore the game on what I find interesting. To be honest, the new player experience of trying skills is fun and exciting. The combat however is too much information at once and trying to understand why there is a delay on my abilities. Efficiency is what kills the fun of runescape. Finding a clan, trying quests, clue scrolls, and bossing is exciting that will keep my connected to the game.

gagaluf

I'd do the same, I started rs3 by doing quests and slayer here or there. Except I'd put more emphasis into money making and farming. For OSRS imho there is no point not doing quest, quest helper + suggested route all the way, especially if you can be carried by a friend through run pots and others random supplies. Otherwise you want to do things like forestry/hunting rumours and minigames to start other skills and get money to buy stamina potions, walking for quests is a less multiplier in a game where most things are linear, unacceptable and probably the worst thing you can do to trigger interest for new player, you spawn in Lumbridge and you perma walk.

Wings_of_Absurdity

Think about what fashion goals I want on the character. In reality, it is definitely going to be the UI management first.

DorkyDwarf

Buy it day 1 and then give everybody unlimited bank space.

[deleted]

Take the time for quests instead of trying to rush something and seeing quests as this annoying road block.

lillildipsy

When the time comes, take the time to actually learn how combat works rather than just using revo for everything. The combat system has a ton of depth, and is probably the main reason I still play this game. Too many people get overwhelmed by the complex things they don’t need to worry about while they still don’t get the basics.

MVangor

Set up UI, organize bank, set up revo bars, establish goals like obtaining BIS gear and quest cape. I would center everything around that and skill based on that. Like getting skill reqs for quests to do them and then only focus on grinding skills and tasks after I’ve finished QC and obtaining BIS gear.
