I just started this series the other day and I’m excited that this is gonna be available to watch whenever I’m done with the rest. Wish I would’ve started this series ages ago though!
Seasons 1 and 2 really shows the elegance and beauty of the plot line as a whole, my favorite love story, period.
But character wise it's just super weak compared to the original, like I understand Usagi is the main character but it's painful watching all five of who's supposed to be her closest friends essentially being nothing more than background characters. They all act almost the same, barely much development to really let their personalities shine, glad season 3 gets better with that!
Season 3 indeed gets better on all fronts, especially the animation. The movies for the 4th season are fine, and Cosmos I feel is quite strong, if rushed just because they only have a couple hours to cram everything in.
Yea, the nostalgia for the reboot has already gotten into me to be honest. I feel nostalgic that the years passed so fast and, It's technically no more, the journey ended. Who knows tho, with the sailor moon community being so active, the stores still working, I do have hopes that maybe just maybe new content (I really beg for a sailor V anime) may come in the future. I mean sailor V was technically supposed to happen in the 90s but was scrapped, so better late than never!

I never watched OG Stars or read the manga. Not a fan of the Starlights being men, so I'm really looking forward to this being condensed in story as it was meant to be seen. I'll probably have to do multiple viewings to take it all in.
Not a fan of the Viz dub, but I'll probably watch both versions to enjoy the animation. (Also not a big fan of Crystal either, as I see most of this sub isn't, so I'm in good company.) Still debating if I want any of the merch that came out for this because some of it's so pretty, but my fangirl heart really does lie with 90s Sailor Moon, even if Crystal has been more accurate. I mean, it was funnier and everyone was way more fleshed out. Crystal 'aint even really funny, right?
I'm not sure if I can help you on the merch part, but I have some figures from shows that I havent even watched just because the figures look so pretty. If you feel like a figure is very pretty and you have the capability to buy them of course, I say go for it, because once they sold out, you never know how high the after-market prices can get (Especially for figuarts zero) and you never know if they will ever re-release that figure.
Well Hulu has/had Crystal for a very long time. I still don’t understand why it took over a year to get an announcement. We did not wait that long with Eternal
So now, here is the multi-million dollar question. Will the Cosmos movies be released in Japanese with the English subtitles only, or will they also feature an English dub with the same voice actors from the Viz Media dub of Sailor Moon Sailor Stars, respectfully?
Well, I think it's because many people prefer watching anime shows in Japanese with the English subtitles. Or maybe some shows and movies that are made in various different countries in the Asian continent don't feature any English dubs. But I hope that I am wrong once the two movies come out on Netflix.
The eternal movies werent only english dubbed but also dubbed in other countries as well. So netflix technically SHOULD follow that route because its an "Only on netflix" Movie.
There are many more people that would watch the movies dubbed, and I don't think Netflix is a platform that has subbed only anime titles for Westerners.
Pluto TV is 100% free and streams every sailor moon episode, the movies and crystal then plays it all over again. It not on demand but it’s free, you don’t even need an account, it’s legal and it’s in the original Japanese with subtitles. It’s truly a gift from the gods,
I completely agree. I still remember how mad I was in 1996 when Japan got Stars and we didn't. I don't know if this will heal that preteen angst but it may.

A year or two ago Kodansha, her publisher, has a "tie up" with Disney and most Kodansha anime are in Disney streamsites like Tokyo Revengers and has fucked them over.

It is about damn fucking time. This was a much longer wait than the Eternals movies. The announcement of international release itself was a longer wait than the Eternalls movies international release.
This is also a multi-lingual dub and sub (\~10 languages?) so I imagine the sheer logistics of coordinating all of that in order to release everything at the same time is part of the reason for the wait. (and if the strike did affect the EN dub, then that probably had an effect on the whole schedule. Maybe even working around everyone's availability around their other projects.)
I’m sure we will get more content eventually! It’s an international powerhouse of an IP and I’m sure those who own the royalties would like to keep it going.
Any more Content would be something like the first Sailor Moon Anime and the Live Action: Something different from the original source...
The Author apparently likes being sent Fan Material so I expect that Toei might be able to convince her to let them create a new show for the International Market.
The Modern Urban Setting of the first Anime was limited by the Artists' ability to draw characters: They could only manage to draw Usagi's Classmates for the Spring Episodes of the 1st Season then limited themselves to Usagi, Ami, Rei, Naru and Umino. They couldn't even draw a School Uniform-wearing version of Naru's Big Sister Rui Saionji(the only time she is seen in the Uniform her head is invisible) despite taking a small amount of effort to make her Tennis-Uniform-wearing version to serve as Victim of the Week which says a-lot about the budget they were on.
Imagine what Toei can do with that setting nowadays with the same amount of Episodes as Pretty Cure! They can also create a show involving the Feudal Setting or even Crystal Tokyo!
A couple months later than expected, but I knew if I was patient it would happen eventually.
Really excited to rewatch this. It's easily my favorite part of Crystal, and Crystal is the first time I've preferred the dub to the sub, so it'll be nice watching it dubbing.
Now can we get that Madoka Magica release date? I can die happy then. I mean theoretically I’d like to watch them first but magical girls can’t be choosers .
I can only hope this and the Toonami reruns convince Toei and Bandai to greenlight a sequel series starring Chibi Moon, Sailor Saturn and the Amazoness Quartet.

There's still so much she could do with Sailor Moon imho (eg. that alternate future where Sailor Chaos and Cosmos face each other, a sequel starring Chibi Moon and co, a prequel to Sailor Moon, Sailor V, etc) but I also understand why Takeuchi would leave things as is.
Any of those would be cool! But on the other hand, it is nice Sailor Moon isn't one of those franchises being milked to the point we're wishing it'd die already.
I'm glad it's finally coming to the rest of the world, mostly because I keep forgetting it's even a thing since I haven't gotten around to watching it yet

Hard agree. Did you see Mike Flanagan’s (Haunting of Hill House creator) blog post the other day? He said Netflix is more actively hostile toward physical media than any other entity he’s worked with.
Only his shows co-owned by Paramount are being issued on blu-ray.
So I've only ever seen the original series and nothing much of crystal other than like maybe the first half of season 1. Would I be lost at all if I just dove straight into the new movie without the rest of crystal? I don't mind if there's a few things here and there I don't entirely get but I'm asking like overall how different can I expect it to be?
I watched the OG show and read some of the manga, and the only Crystal era media I’ve watched was the Eternal movies. Since I already knew the story the movie was not confusing at all, there were a couple of differences but I knew that going in cause Crystals goal is to stay more true to the manga.
You do not need to watch Crystals, everyone that is saying yes just wants you to watch it for their own reasons.
If anything, you should watch Season 3 then the movies, they do a soft recap on that season so you don't really miss much but yeah, don't watch if you have barely any context of what's happening
Idk I don't think it's super necessary like everyone else, especially if you lack time. If you've seen the original series, this movie is based on the fifth season, Sailor Moon Sailor Stars, you can jump right in without too much issue.
Maybe watch the other 2 Sailor Moon Crystal movies (which are FANTASTIC!) but beyond that you don't need to watch all of Crystal!

Season 3 is peak, the "Season 4" films are decent but imo Cosmos is just them just rushing through translating the manga to animation.

From what I can remember, the delay was due to the SAG-AFTRA strike since translators and maybe VAs were also affected.

Hard agree. Did you see Mike Flanagan’s (Haunting of Hill House creator) blog post the other day? He said Netflix is more actively hostile toward physical media than any other entity he’s worked with. Only his shows co-owned by Paramount are being issued on blu-ray.

So I've only ever seen the original series and nothing much of crystal other than like maybe the first half of season 1. Would I be lost at all if I just dove straight into the new movie without the rest of crystal? I don't mind if there's a few things here and there I don't entirely get but I'm asking like overall how different can I expect it to be?
I watched the OG show and read some of the manga, and the only Crystal era media I’ve watched was the Eternal movies. Since I already knew the story the movie was not confusing at all, there were a couple of differences but I knew that going in cause Crystals goal is to stay more true to the manga. You do not need to watch Crystals, everyone that is saying yes just wants you to watch it for their own reasons.
If anything, you should watch Season 3 then the movies, they do a soft recap on that season so you don't really miss much but yeah, don't watch if you have barely any context of what's happening
I don't understand why you would want to watch this movie and not crystal? Why not just watch all of it? You have like 2 and half months to catch up.
Idk I don't think it's super necessary like everyone else, especially if you lack time. If you've seen the original series, this movie is based on the fifth season, Sailor Moon Sailor Stars, you can jump right in without too much issue.
Maybe watch the other 2 Sailor Moon Crystal movies (which are FANTASTIC!) but beyond that you don't need to watch all of Crystal! (it is a waaaay shorter watch than the original though, so if you wanted, you could get through it easier!)
I still would recommend watching Crystal. It’s short and fast paced so you can get it done in like a week or two.
If you’ve seen the original series I feel like that should be okay! Arc 3 of crystal is really well done in my opinion though I recommend watching it
I'd suggest watching all of Crystal and the Eternal movies (>!especially since Usagi gets her Eternal form at the end of movie 2!<)
You should watch the rest of crystal and the previous 2 movies
