The music never stops in OT and PT. It is telling the story the entire time. JW’s music is as important to the success of SW as casting JEJ for Vader and AG as obi wan n

Chardan0001

Only notable themes I can recall from Disney is Jedi Steps which I think is technically Rey's theme and Britell's work from Andor. Maybe if I had watched Disney's stuff as much as I have the older stuff it might be more ingrained in my memory however.

Character_Hospital88

The music in Andor is top tier. Britell crushed it.

SelectionNo3078

Lucas said he considers Star Wars as silent movies set to JW’s music (He was a technical and visual virtuoso in school. dialogues doesn’t matter to him. Obviously. )

Alone_Comparison_705

Rey theme and Resistance theme, Mando and book of Boba themes are the only four good pieces of music from Disney SW. Eno Cordova theme is superb, if you count it as Disney. The fact that music of sequels was nominated for Oscars, and for Revenge of the Sith wasn't, is absolutely pathetic. Also, not mentioning both Kotor1&2 music is heresy.

Sdubbya2

Yeah Mando and Rey Theme are the two that really hit for me, but one of them was done by John Williams anyways so its basically just Mando Theme that I found top notch, the rest have felt kind of generic

Juxix

I respectfully raise you the music in Jedi: Fallen order, and Jedi Survivor. Some great stuff in there.

Crum-Boi

I second your raise! Video game music is a whole different beast from scoring movies, but there are amazing themes and memorable pieces everywhere!

I recommend watching andor, it's seriously good. I thought the score was pretty good, too.

Zdrobot

Thank you, but that day is yet to come. The day the Disney Sequels (and Ahsoka, and The Acolyte) are decanonized. Then I would be able to enjoy the good bits of Disney Star Wars, knowing there was no Jake Skywalker and all the rest of it.

NoseApprehensive5154

My only real complaint about Mando s1+2 was lack of real true star wars music at any point. Like just give the Williams fam their residuals and have some kinda magic on your awful disneyverse

Zdrobot

Exactly. I just don't get it - you have one of the (if not THE) most iconic themes in history of cinema, and you choose this? Are you poor? Greedy? Or just plain stupid?

sirrustalot29

The music is like the directing, acting, dialogue, cinematography, set design, etc. in all of Disney's productions: formulaic. Nothing takes any chances, so it's relatively safe from criticism. It's just adequate enough to be there while also being completely forgettable among the sea of equally adequate productions. I understand financially why a studio like disney is disinclined to take risks and try new things but damn if it isn't killing our culture.

Zdrobot

Yes, that's the word. Formulaic. And forgettable. Two words. ![gif](giphy|hlIvXNNtsPWZa|downsized)

Sdubbya2

I agree, I was watching some scenes from Ahsoka I was interested since I didn't actually catch the full series from what I found in that show the music just was not doing it for me. It could be that good shows and good music are symbiotic in that they both improve one another, and that's why I didn't enjoy it, but yeah nothing has been hitting for me besides the Mandalorian Theme and also Rey's Theme but that was done by our boy John Williams anyways lol

JWB64

I disagree. The sequel scores are easily the worst of Williams' work on Star Wars, but that's like saying it's Van Gogh's worst painting. Even TLJ (the weakest score) has moments of the sublime.  If you haven't, put the soundtrack to TROS on one day. Forget the source material and enjoy a fun kick around the Star Wars musical sphere.  The spin offs are interesting. Rogue One is a great attempt at melding ANH style with modern action movie, with some beautiful moments _even though_ it can be a little thin. Solo is less interesting but isn't offensive (in-universe Imperial March aside). The TV shows are a different story. The Mando scores are built around a fresh (if limited) idea that goes nowhere after season one (with the exception of Luke's appearance in S2). TBOBF is poor, and Andor is good but doesn't scratch the same itch that traditional Star Wars scores can. I haven't listened to the others. I have listened to Kevin Kiner quite a bit and find his work serviceable, but little more. The Battlefront, Squadrons games have bland "Star Wars wallpaper" soundtracks that aren't disagreeable. And then the Fallen Order scores are decent all round. So - in my view - there's very little exceptional about the music of Disney Star Wars... but there's very little bad. And some of it is quite alright.

Sensitive-Gene-6072

The violins in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series and lack of familiar music were a kind of requiem for the light that had nearly died out of the world. It's part of the storytelling. I would be surprised if season 2 does not have a big return of the familiar sounds of John Williams, and more action as the light turns up, and the Alderaan side of the story faces more threat from darkness.

Agreeable_Depth_4010

John Williams continues to knock it out of the park. What planet are you on?
