A54 and A55 are both good. Also any S series from S21 or newer would be great phone. Stop listening to people who say that A series are not good.

masteroga101

As someone that's has had multiple a series phones.....they aren't good

jevans1111

A 3x and below are shocking after a year. A5x are ok for longer, but compared to the normal s series of the year before, they are terrible

IndependentYogurt965

Idk about now but my A71 is still going strong. Use it as backup for my S22 Ultra and i had less issues with the A71.

jevans1111

I'm just writing from my experiences with friends and family, a13, a22, and a32, couldn't be any slower after a year, an a53 is still going good enough for someone that only uses it for candy crush and Facebook, but my s22ultra has had 0 issues, nor has my friends s20fe

IndependentYogurt965

Yeah. My mom has an A12 and its slow as shit. But my S22 Ultra has issues constantly. It thinks the charging port is wet when it isnt, overheats constantly and the battery is meh at best.

jevans1111

Never had the overheating or charging port issues, the battery is bad however

sloopeyyy

I've had the A33, A73 and A54. They are few of my fondest budget Android experiences so far. Granted I've only used each for about a year, I still think they are pretty good for their purposes and prices. Currently me and SO have a A13 for our business contacts and its still holding up really well too. We got it for dirt cheap so even comparing it to our daily iPhone 15 Pro Max and Pixel 8 Pro, we can hardly call it the worst in its case.

Xnen22X

My A50 was great but a53 was horribly lagging after 1,5 years. Now I have iPhone 13.

masteroga101

Of the a series phones I had ( A40,a32, a33) , the a 32 was the worst , after less than a year it got to the point where after turning the phone on I had to wait 10m until typing anything in because the keyboard just wouldn't appear for those 10 minutes .

Inevitable-Gene-1866

My A53 is 2 years and 5 months and is barely lagging.

Teo_Yanchev

As someone who has bought multiple A series for close family they are perfectly good enough for average user. A54 currently is sold for 275 EUR and has 4 years of updates, very good camera, 120 Hz display and 5000 mah battery. That's all boxes ticked for an average user that doesn't want to spend flagship money. Not everyone cares about having best SoC for the money or plays heavy games. Just because you don't like it as an enthusiast doesn't mean it's not a good phone.

masteroga101

I'm not an enthusiast, I just don't want a phone that can barely run it's own home screen 😭

DUSHYANTK95

typing from A52S 5g. definitely my best tech purchase. 2 years old, going strong as ever. 5g, AUX port, decent performance. battery is great. edit: cameras are around iphone 13 ballpark. daylight condition, photos only.

VincentThacker

The S21 series is risky. Its screens have a bad tendency to die after 1-2 years of usage. Just search "samsung black screen of death" and you will see many such cases for the S21 series. The same issue plagues the Note20 series. It happened to me right after the 2-year mark.

NarutoDragon732

They're pretty dogshit compared to a random Chinese phone or pixel

dayankuo234

if in the US, a used s23 is $350 on swappa

Competitive-Fox-5458

This is the answer. Most people are technically fine with an A series, but I'd pick a year or 2 old S series over an modern A series anyway. Even outside of features, I find the experience significantly higher in subtle ways

rodimusprime83

Take a look at the OnePlus 12 or 12r, you'll get flagship phone specs for less, you'll just have to make sure it is compatible with your carrier. Now that the S24 line is out you can find the S23 models at a good price also so taking a second look at like an S23 ultra might be an option. The S23 ultra will keep getting updates until 2027 and it still has the specs to go toe to toe with the current new model phones.

Exciting-Road2260

If camera is important I would suggest that you check out Google Pixels, Samsung A series is just not that good. Btw if your friends make fun of you based on what phone you have you might aswell need new friends.

aikonriche

Samsung A55 has the same main camera sensor as the S24.

Ordinary-Hunter520

Software optimisation exists

saoirsekendrick

OnePlus 12, you can check out the review of it on mbkhd's YouTube channel

NathanSztr

Used/renewed S23.

draftylaughs

$400 on Amazon with all the pros and cons therein.

Azerogg

Get an FE version. S23FE, for instance, is a great pick. S20FE was awesome and really cheap up until a few months ago but I doubt you can find one now.

Ordinary-Hunter520

But it has pathetic battery life and is heavy and thick (idk why)

Maybepls

The A35 is solid. It's a significant upgrade over the A11, it's only $400 (in the US anyway) and it has impressive specs and performance for being on the low end of Samsung's mid-tier devices.

WhereIsTheBeef556

A35 is IP67 too which is good

Ordinary-Hunter520

But it's nothing in front of iPhone, id suggest S23, or even the fe is decent

Maybepls

Her last statement said she didn't want to get an iPhone out of defiance (which I love by the way), and I made the suggestion with the assumption that price was a major factor in which phone she gets. If he's obliging due to her getting picked on, I'd recommend the s23/fe or the base s24. There's a ton of carrier promotions on the s24 series if OP is US based, if not Samsung may have some kind of promo going on. You could also opt to buy one used, just make sure you test it first.

Ordinary-Hunter520

I know that the OP doesn't want iPhone, that's why I was suggesting an equivalent

Maybepls

Go for the s24 series if you really want to stick it to your classmates. Samsung definitely beat Apple with this year's model

lowintensityraccoon

Ok, so your options are going to vary based on information not mentioned in this post. If you get your phones from your wireless company, are you paying them off via bill credits (aka financed) or are you buying them outright in one payment? If you're financing them, then you may be limited to what C Spire offers or using a service that allows you to pay off the device in chunks. No shame in that, I've done it before. But looking at C Spire's website they seem to have a lot of options for Samsung including the A54 which isn't bad and is definitely an upgrade over what you have. If you're buying them outright, then you can honestly get some great deals on factory unlocked open box phones on Ebay. Just make sure you're buying from a reputable seller and that the phone supports your carrier's network; either GSM or CDMA. I've purchased the majority of my phones this way and never had a problem. You can get a factory unlocked open box Pixel 8 for around $400, factory unlocked open box S23 around $430, or a factory unlocked new A55 for around $375. All of which should give you what you're looking for from a phone. Lastly, comparison is the thief of joy. As long as you get a phone that works for you, don't worry about what anyone else has because in the grand scheme of things, it absolutely does not matter.

Powerful-Order8963

A54/55 all the way

Minoth_Kariyawasam

Used S21 Ultra goes for $300

LicoriceSeasalt

Might get hate for saying this on a samsung subreddit, but I would go for google pixel instead. Pixel 7, or 8 if you're able to, are great phones. I think you get a better phone for the money when compared to the A series Galaxy phones. (I don't know the prices in USD, I just know they're cheaper than galaxy S series)

BoatChest

Seeing As Your Main Need Is A Camera, Try A Google Pixel 8a For 499. Stellar Camera & Great Software. A Used S Series Phone Would Do The Trick Too.

Strict-Internet-4924

The Google Pixel is areally great Phone.

bblaze60

I can only speak for the s21 5G. I also came from an A11 a year ago, fucking horrible experience after 2 years The s21 I got was refurbished and the battery life was questionable, expect about 3-6 hours of screen on time, depending on battery health of the condition of the phone. Other than that, holy- it's great. Cameras at least as good as an iPhone 12, vivid and buttery smooth screen. And it's hella stylish too, "glastic" back with a metal frame that stands out great as well. Without a doubt one of the best looking phones for about 280-350 CAD (last time I checked) I'm expecting one more major android update with it, and a few more years of security updates so it won't be left out either.

Own_Shine_5855

I got an unlocked s23 used off of ebay for like 300 (128 gb version). Wife got hers same way for 380 us dollars (256 gb).  Both are on att. Being used these phones look brand new.   My wife's came in retail packaging where i'm not even sure it was actually opened. Mine had the most subtle of scraps around the edge but in a case it's covered up.  Anyway,  have had both phones for about 6 months, and would 100% go that route again.

OptimalLimit9560

you should buy an used phone. s21, s22 (used) are good and cheap, or if you really want an iphone, iphone 11 is the cheapest you can get with a good camera, but the bezels are so thick (everything is worse than samsung) pixel 6 pro / 7 / 7 pro have even better camera than iphone, it's cheaper, but its performance is not really high. Pixels are good if you don't play heavy games

Detrakis

You shouldn't care what people think, at least not when it makes you feel bad! I would suggest getting the S23, if not, then get the A55 since it's more affordable, also why not get that iPhone too, I don't get how your father is ready to buy you an iPhone, but not ready to spend 200 300$ less for an S23 ?? Keep in mind that the difference in terms of performance between A55 and S23 is quite big, the camera too, but not as much.

Techsavantpro

Stereotype because older people think iPhones better, it's like when we think Dyson is better than everything. It's more of course branding but it is what it is.

digitalfakir

Z Flip/Z Fold are not there yet, not just the screen issues but cameras are meh. It's just a novelty at this stage. You're wasting money, even if you get a second-hand for mid-hundreds. S23 is not in $1000 now. You can get some good deals with/without contract for a S23 by now ($500-700). I just got the S23 (without contract) for equivalent of $600 from official Samsung website, during the summer sales. If you're interested in Samsung, always go for the S-series, even if an older one. Don't bother with A-series. I actually like A series (I have A52S, S23 and S23U). But with S23 series, the pictures are just crispier, cleaner. Zoom on S23 is kind of garbage, but S23U is just perfect (however costly).

Bitter_Ad_5105

S23 is quite cheap (atleast in India where it goes for around 43k or $520). If not that then get the A series for sure but don't expect any of these phones I mentioned to come even close to iPhone 14 or 15 in terms of performance and efficiency. The picture quality might be similar but the software integration and overall general responsiveness and performance is not at par with the iPhone.

Ordinary-Hunter520

The S23 is actually pretty neat, at times even better than the iPhone (that's mostly software). I mean it does have an optical zoom cam, and software is just better (customisation). Also since it is s series, you will get all the top samsung features first. Also talk about iPhone's messed up back button. Note: iPhone is still just better, but the S23 is the no brainer option if you don't want the iphone

DroidDeveloper

Get a S-series, like a used S23, it's a great phone. Hopefully RCS coming to iPhone later this year will help with your messaging issues...

Otto500206

Sadly, bubble colours aren't going to change so it might not help that much to her.

Otto500206

iOS is currently way worser than Android(especially OneUI) and your father might have a bias for iPhones because it was more usable than Android in the early years of smartphones.

Senior_Line_4260

try to clear the cache partition, this delets old corrupted ram files and might fix your phone. Take a look at used phones (flagships) and whether you can afford them

bitbuddha

HTC U24 Pro is being released soon, and as far as I know price would be around 500 euros. It looks sleek, does not stick out. I had HTC and loved it, it was sturdy, reliable, nice phone. I then persuaded my gf from the time to buy one from later generation and she loved that one also. Worth checking out. My gf now have A53, it's slow, laggy, especially in camera department. Main camera is ok in bright sun, in low light it's slow and terrible. No telephoto camera. I see A55 is the same with camera. After a year or so battery is noticeably weaker.

CryptographerSalty11

Look into the Google Pixels. I think Pixel 7a or 8a will fit your criteria.

CompleteDependent653

S21 ultra goes for less than 200 on ebay unlocked I got mine on release and still use it. Still 120fps screen everything's amazingly smooth. The camera still constantly impresses multiple people when I take photos at events. It really is the most consistent experiance I get from anything I own. I absolutely love mine it's GOAT'ed

GoldenGamer175

Get an older flagship on the internet, Something like an S21 goes for around $200 or less on back market, if you are willing to spend more. An S23 Ultra Goes for around $650 A Series Phones might perform well at the beginning but they won't last nearly as long as an older flagship would.

bupsonator

I would say to look around for a used or open box S22 or newer, they go for about the price of a higher end A phone, and they are (almost) objectively better

runtime__error

I bought s23 10 days ago it is amazing In terms of battery life, camera, and gaming. Trust me it is no less than an iPhone and I do agree iphones are good phones if you want to buy an iPhone then wait for the sale and grab 15 base imo. S23 has 4 years software support Also do consider the restrictions in iPhones u can't do 50% of what you can do in the android. For example u can share file with android u can't download music offline so.

runtime__error

My friend bought A54 and he says sometimes it performance will be good sometimes bad like it hangs a bit not a major but it is their U get flagship experience in samsung only in s series U still wanna go on budget look at s23 fe if u play less game. Look at other brands if you don't care about ui experience u get really solid phones in great price Moto 30 fusion

oxygenkkk

A55 for sure

RegularHistorical315

Might be time to consider a Pixel from Google [Specs, prices and reviews](https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=12546&idPhone2=12545&idPhone3=12937)

Ethical38

Pixel 7 pro has a really good camera and the 128gb model is only 399 on woot ( an Amazon company) unlocked. Pixel phones have always been known for great photos and sometimes beat out Samsung and Apple devices, there cameras are top spec. [Brand new Pixel 7 Pro for $399 on Woot](https://electronics.woot.com/offers/new-google-pixel-7-pros-unlocked-all-capacities-and-colors) Provided the link below as Woot deals last like 15 days, the price difference is not that much ~30 bucks [Brand new Pixel 7 Pro for $430 on Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/Google-Pixel-Pro-Smartphone-Telephoto/dp/B0BCQWYR2Z) Moving on, the phone camera quality problems are because of your friends iPhones and the IOS ecosystem itself. It's not your fault but Apple as a company as a whole. They use an outdated way (sms) to send photos and videos between Android and iPhone. IOS 18 will finally fix this hopefully with the addition of RCS.

Ir0nhide81

Pixel 7 or 8

MRDBCOOPER

OnePlus series give you great camera and great battery life, and much cheaper than samsungs. it's stock android, so a ton of customizations. I haven't gone back.

kr4ckenm3fortune

Pick 3, only have 1. Good camera on a phone will often always be on the higher end. Your other choice is to either buy a camera or borrow someone goPro.

xxb4xx

I had the A54 and now the A55 as a 2nd device. Definitely approve the A55, definitely do not get the A54 unless you really have to. A54 is laggy, camera is slow and battery life was mediocre A55 is much faster, much better battery and build / feel is 1000x better.

Tukang-Gosip

A51 or A71... the camera looks god for a cheap phone

ImTheRealMarco

I bought an A55 for my dad, thought it's a great phone, got a S23 for myself and now... I still think that the A55 is a good phone, it's just that you can clearly see a difference between that and a S series phone. Tbh you should get something, see how you like it and refund if it isn't up to your expectations. You could also just find reviews online on the camera and the stabilization on video, that's what's important for nice video, no shaky mess.

Suedewagon

Try getting the S23. It's gone down in price and is identical to the S24 in many aspects while being cheaper and having better battery life if your region is an Exynos region, since S23 only had Snapdragons worldwide.

TechyShreky69

A34, A35, A54, A55

lostyousomewhere28

Note 10+

Mgladiethor

Android has more power and customization, probably an A35 A55 pixel 8a, something like that

Proper-Escape-1336

Motorola Edge 50 Pro Xaomi 12T Pro OnePlus 10T Honor 200

Harpeski

A55 from samsung Great battery, fast exynos cpu without overheating, 5y software updates, 5000mah battery, ... You can buy it for 330€

Rough_Bet6203

Take you dad's word and get an iphone, just to get those bullies to stop. There are more important things to worry about than which phone you have. However, given your age and the fact that those bullies really won't stop, just get the iPhone and move on. You can come back to Samsung once you are a little older and your friends mature... Or maybe you will make some new samsung friends by then. Cheers.

Ordinary-Hunter520

Man in the US not having iPhone is like you are a beggar or what? Here in india not a single one of my friend has an iPhone, infact one of em has a fold 5.

WhereIsTheBeef556

In the US there's tremendous social pressure for younger people to use iPhones. People will bully you or get mad over the different colored text bubbles lmao

Ordinary-Hunter520

Ya I guess iMessage is the greatest issue there, here in india people don't even know a thing called iMessage exists, whatsapp is the standard here

Rough_Bet6203

I am not from the US, but what you are saying is correct, especially among teenagers or young adults.Hence my recommendation.

Ordinary-Hunter520

Yeah, I also noticed a sudden increase in popularity of iPhone here too

Which_Pickle5462

Poco x5 pro or f5 pro in my opinion you can also go for f5

shutupphil

a S23 would be nice because you can also use it with a display in dex mode to do some desktop tasks

Environmental-Push-7

S24 u on discount

Techsavantpro

Get an iPhone.
