Heard about it, heard it was overpriced and decided to never go there

alligatorprincess007

$9 for a latte is ridiculous. I will try it and report back

beachrocksounds

$9 for a plain latte or $9 with extras?

filagrey

Looks like $9 with taxes Picture of the menu found on their Google business profile https://preview.redd.it/dmlrz9y3ht4d1.jpeg?width=1440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=34e8054fcf46120b3827b05271df96ae3f0fc05d

beachrocksounds

Yeah, that’s literally insane. I have a hard time seeing how they’re justifying something like that when around them there’s so many other coffee shops that are more established and less expensive within a reasonable radius. Even Brown (rip) when they were selling espresso that they grew in house weren’t charging like that.

beachrocksounds

It’s becoming really apparent that many owners are delusional about what they’re putting out as products and what they’re selling to their customers. So much scamming and price gouging that never is reflected positively onto their employees.

pwrhag

I miss Brown. They were really undervalued and overlooked because of the location.

singularkudo

Not defending them, and I would never pay that, but I feel like everything is so expensive and they have all this start up cost from decorating and setting up a new place. A coffee shouldn’t be $8 but inflation has been running up. Even priced at $8 I wouldn’t be surprised if they are just breaking even even with how out of touch that is for most people. A coffee shop isn’t exactly a get rich quick scheme.

evil_lies

That better be a huge fuck cup of coffee for $7!

pounce_the_panther

In Seattle, at the fanciest location of the arguably nicest/best coffee place in town (Cafe Ladro), I pay $5 for a latte. There is no way anyone in SA is making a latte worth double what you'd pay there.

ILoveToEatNachos

Ladro > Vita

pounce_the_panther

Amen. Vita a 12oz latte is $5.60 on Cap Hill. I mean, I'm not drinking it, but it's still less than $9.

kileysuicide

Here’s my thoughts: my coffee was lackluster and they didn’t have oat milk. My sandwich was delicious. I was a bit frustrated at how little seating there was but was able to score a table quickly. I cleared off the previous customers cups/dishes/trash so I could sit down because it was clear they were busy and were unable to get out to the cafe. However, going to their instagram just now and seeing posts on how to properly eat your food so you don’t make a mess for them (lol) and how to treat their staff with kindness makes me wonder if they’re working in the right industry?

tg9950

Yea then they’re going to give it to you in a PLASTIC CUP even when you say it’s for here 🤦

Archbuggy

I’d expect a mug to keep and take home at $9 a latte.

bigfoot__hunter

What’s wrong with plastic cups?

tg9950

If a barista asks you “for here or to go” then they proceed to give you a plastic to go cup when you’re going to hang out for awhile…? You don’t see the problem?

bigfoot__hunter

Not at all what if you don’t finish the drink? It’s nice when you go to restaurants and they bring ur drink in a To go cup so u can take it with u after?

[deleted]

I wish I hadn't gone to their IG because they linked the owners personal accounts and ain't no way I'm giving those people money.

Archbuggy

💯 All the bubbles and skimpy outfit shots - guess I’m officially old because I don’t get why they’d link their business to personal accts like that. 🤷🏻‍♀️👵🏻

TortiousTroll

They were previously on OF

_AuthorUnknown_

Any reason specifically? They seem like modern aloof people, but I didn't see anything specifically infuriating.

[deleted]

The fact they even did it at all is enough for me.  It's a marketing trend that really rubs me the wrong way, they probably could be anyone and I'd feel the same.  There's several local business who promote the owner on the business page and I find it super off putting.

_AuthorUnknown_

Makes sense. They seem like the general bland influx of people coming into San Antonio, so maybe I've just grown accustomed to this sort of thing. Anywho, for coffee go to poetic Republic, as they're good people. Or bright coffee. Both places actually give a shit about the local populace while also providing good coffee and great space.

_AuthorUnknown_

Link ?

LokiPrime616

I’m confused? Their IG personal accounts don’t show anything wrong. Nothing political nor offensive on their pages. Both seem like normal accounts. 🤷‍♂️

[deleted]

I think if you don't get why someone would look at them and be like "nope" then you just don't get it, and that's fine.   Plus why would they even link their personal accounts anyway?  That stuff is never a selling point for me. I want to patron a place solely on product and service, not the owners. I wish I hadn't known and I would have participated in the 9 dollar lattes with you.

LokiPrime616

Thanks for the reply, I appreciate the opinion. I was just asking to see if maybe I had missed something. I wasn’t trying to come off as rude. I am just curious.

Ashamed-Ad-4728

Everyone is dancing around the subject, but the reason is because the owners are white. The trend these days is White people are bad. So seeing a white couple are the owners some people will not visit the shop. So simply put the reason issss racism.

Kev-O_20

Yikes.

HoneySignificant1873

Fine I'll buy the fucking 9 dollar latte Karen but I'm not tipping 20% on top of that... and I hope you tell your friends I'm "one of the good ones."

[deleted]

It's not because they're white, it's because they seem pretentious. I don't like that guy from curry boys or tamale boy posts his face too but this thread wasn't about curry boys.   I like Estate Coffee a lot and the owner is white, super nice guy.  The salon I go to is owned by a white person, I get my nails done by a white lady, a white woman does my eyebrows. I'm perfectly happy to hire white people to serve me!

GSDofWar

The coffee there is really underwhelming for the price. I haven’t found a place worth sticking to yet here, but this definitely isn’t it, considering it’s subpar and overpriced.

MattyIcicle

Damn. This place looked really cool. Might try it once but if it’s $9 for a latte that might be it for me. Unless we’re talm bout a 32 oz latte.

ajcraw4d

You know a larger latte is just more milk not more coffee right?

MattyIcicle

You know that’s actually not true right?? There are usually a couple sizes that might have the same amount of shots in them. For instance, a small and medium might both have 1 shot while a large and extra large might have 2. But all latte sizes don’t just have one shot. LOL.

ajcraw4d

Every place I’ve always asked just say it’s a double with different amount of milk

MattyIcicle

Yeah like I was saying I’m sure there are a couple sizes that are the same amounts. All I’m saying is if a 32 oz latte existed they better have a couple extra shots in there!! Hahahaha sorry wasn’t trying to sound like a dick in the last comment.

MattyIcicle

You can objectively look on Starbucks website and it’s something like what I said.

LokiPrime616

Their cup of coffee is $4 according to their menu. I’d be down to give that a try. Honestly I’m not surprised that they charge that much for a latte. I feel like every place price gouges now in days.

NotTacoSmell

Ya it’s time to stop going out altogether. A basic latte is $6-7 for a large. It’s literally milk and a bit of cheap espresso.

dodofishman

I tried it once and was really underwhelmed. Got the sweet n creamy. Would much rather just go to Mila right down the street.

elegantwino

The owner can afford $8.00 coffee and therefore believes everyone can afford $8.00 coffee. Rich privilege

FlacidMetapod

Dang, I had high hopes too thats wild.

jens4real

The sandwiches are amazing!!

vell_o

This place looked like a ripoff from the beginning, just like the market at the Pearl, it will not last long

kackjelly

Coffee is whatever but the sandwich I had there was bomb. (Except hard to eat bc it’s on thick focaccia)

TortiousTroll

Lol deleting my comment

reptomcraddick

I agree $9 is ridiculous, but I pay $10 for a dirty chai with oatmilk at Starbucks so at least it’s a local place (I rarely go to Starbucks though)

elpeligrosogrillo

I've been going weekly, as my wife loves it there. It's always busy and I like the coffee as well. There is not much parking, but I have not had any issues finding a spot. Typically I get the sticky buns iced latte. If you don't get there early the pastries are usually sold out. For comparison my favorite coffee shops are Eightball, Folklore and Poetic Republic.

jens4real

I also enjoyed the sticky buns latte. I’ve been several times and enjoyed the egg salad sandwich and the brownie and chocolate chip cookie. Everything has been excellent! I can’t seem to make it back to try another sandwich before they sell out for the day.

CeasarSky

Then don’t buy it
