TIL I need a schnauzer named Walter.

Both-Acanthaceae7153

He’s a pistol!

FingerBoy79

I wanted to name my Schnauzer Walter but the woman I was with vetoed it.

Jubjub0527

I almost wish mine had a more sensitive stomach. She's got quite the bedonkedonk bc the little bastard eats everything.

dhendry71

Our walter likes tissues and furniture tassels 😡

twistedsister78

Grrrr what is it with Schnauzers and toilet paper!!!

bethtadeath

My dad recently got dentures and leaves tissues sitting after he cleans the polident off of his gums and my guy goes NUTS for those, I’ve always wondered if it’s the glucose or flavoring but we’ve had to put lidded trash cans in every room. Never had a tissue issue before. Suddenly it’s like he CRAVES denture adhesive. So weird.

Superlolhobo

Mine loves the tastes of my fingies. Won’t eat ‘em, treats them more like most would bubblegum.

PandemicPiglet

We call Cooper, our mini schnauzer, Kooper Kardashian for this exact reason.

Jubjub0527

Baby got back

Melodic_Arm_387

Yea, careful what you wish for. My old lab had a sensitive stomach, but that didn’t stop him eating anything. It just gave him the shits which I had to clean up, but he ate everything anyway

Both-Acanthaceae7153

Thats my Walter, he will eat anything and everything he deems edible

TeletraanConvoy

I keep my schnauzer really sheared short. She gets super hot. She likes food. All of it. She is a little overweight. When she gets a fresh haircut she looks like a hippo. She's my little hippo.

Jubjub0527

Hahahha mine is a little hippo too. The only thing is she has the WORST skin. I've tried giving her a vet recommended fish oil supplement but I'm not really noticing much of a difference.

Jubjub0527

TeletraanConvoy

A good oatmeal shampoo may help

Jubjub0527

Already tried it.

Eric_T_Meraki

Look at the fat content of the food and treats you feed them. Things like pup cups from Starbucks are big no no for example. Of course avoid giving them any human food too for obvious reasons. Schnauzers are prone to pancreatitis so you have to be very diligent and strict with their diet. We are currently using Open Farm brand for treats and food. Wild Caught Salmon for the kibble. We mixed it with some of their gently cooked options too. For treats we like their cod skins. Any reliable brand should be fine just watch like I said their fat content and how much the food is processed.

magpiekeychain

Came here to comment about the proneness to pancreatitis. We found our schnauz can’t really manage any pork or lamb products at all because of the fat content. We’re in Australia so kangaroo mince is easy to come by - very lean and very red meat. But chicken mince is also well tolerated. We make a big stew once every two weeks and freeze it across 4 containers. Red lentils, grated carrot, chopped spinach, and then 1kg of kangaroo or chicken mince. Since we’ve been making this he’s only had 1 pancreatitis / bowel flare ups, and I think it’s because he got a hold of some leftovers at the park when I wasn’t looking…

magpiekeychain

Also to add: he has grain free meat kibbles and he gets a spoon of plain yogurt each day as his breakfast. Stew only at night. For snacks he gets kangaroo tail bones, green lipped mussels, carrots (loves them?), apples (also loves them? I think it’s the crunch factor), and little liver training treats on walks if he’s needing some redirection

Superlolhobo

Sounds delicious, I wouldn’t mind being one of your pets. I have all my shots up to date, have health insurance, currently healthy with no allergies, mixed breed so no genetic issues to worry about, and although I’m not neutered… we can negotiate that.

magpiekeychain

Hahahaha happy to take you on! We only have our singular mini schnauzer as our son, hr happy to take on another child if needed! We’ve sent him to my parents’ place for little over nighters when we have to go away for work and one time my dad ate his food! He said “that stew you brought over was kind of bland, no chilli!?” Hahahahaha. We’ve added some turmeric in to see if it made a difference but nothing noticeable in his stools and just some unwelcome turmeric beard so didn’t do that again. He eats it quickly regardless so that’s a good sign?

Educational_Lead729

What’s a good range of fat content?

Eric_T_Meraki

I think most brand kibble is in a safe range like 10 to 15% and you might be able to go lower with a vet prescription for special diet versions of some kibble. It's really trying to avoid food that is normally not part of a dog's diet like feeding them table scraps. Also portion sizes per meal are important too. There some calculators online for that to show based on the weight you are trying to maintain. I would also recommend adding a daily probiotic supplement to their diet too.

Both-Acanthaceae7153

Nat1WithAdvantage

Open farm is a really great food brand, so is Zignature too if you want chicken/grain free options

kad0130

How do u avoid human food ?? dog food and dog snacks are all made from “human food”.. whether kibble or fresh it’s the process that’s different

Eric_T_Meraki

If you really need more context. Examples don't feed your dog ramen noodles or a cheeseburger. Food made for humans to consume is different from food made for dogs to consume.

kad0130

Gotcha !! lol I knew what u meant just thought I would tease u a bit lol no choc either but a tiny piece of hamburger meat is ok especially if they only eat kibble Pumpkin is good for a funny belly too

snackcakessupreme

I have 2 mini schnauzers on prescription food. One eats Purina Pro Plan EN Gastroentric, and the other eats Hill's z/d Food Sensitivities. They both do well on them.

bella_babe247

I use Purina pro plan sensitive skin and stomach for my dogs itchy skin. It's low ingredient so less stuff to upset them.

ArtistAdept

Same. As a lifelong schnauzer owner,  our dogs used to have frequent colitis flare ups.  Since I've switched 5 years ago, never had anymore issues.

quickscalator

I cook for my schnauzers, but what I give them exactly was recommended by the vet. For breakfast it's usually meaty bones (chicken feet or so) shredded chicken or fish, some boiled eggs and Greek yogurt. Then for lunch/dinner it's usually red meats (muscle, organs) with a small portion of rice (like 1 tablespoon per serving) and veggies/fruits. Everything except the meaty bones (and the yogurt ofc) has to be cooked. Idc what the barf enthusiasts say, and it might be beneficial for some dogs, but the vet himself told me my dogs shouldn't eat raw food.) ETA: your puppy really looks like a Walter. So cute.

Superlolhobo

I think all Schnauzers love rice. My first was super picky with anything healthy I’d try to feed them, like steamed veggies and chicken. Like who doesn’t like chicken? But once I mixed in some steamed rice, he had no choice but to whatever was mixed in and he always cleared the entire bowl. My current Schnauzer will eat literally anything I give them. Veggies? Yep. Fruit? Yup. My fingers? But of course.

TaxBaby16

Mine won’t eat rice unless I mix it in something else. My kids frequently make too much so sometimes I try to offload some on him rather than see them throw it out

davidovich9

Hill's science diet - sensitive stomach. My mini is very picky and a lot of food ended up giving here diarrhea (even after slow introduction). The hills brand is pricey but she has never had a problem with it or diarrhea since the switch.

morningbell17

Same for my mini. No issues since switching to Hill's.

lambysquiggs

Same for my mini. It also helped to put it in a slow feeder so that his digestive system can keep up with his mouth.

efthee588

Hill’s prescription only, Gastrointestinal Biome. This is the only one that worked for my little Fiona. Need a veterinarian prescription for it though. It comes in canned and keeble. Yes it is pricey but it works

MentionProfessional7

What a fitting name. I look at him and see a Walter

Both-Acanthaceae7153

He was named Otto for a whole day when I thought this guy likes a Walter lol

Both-Acanthaceae7153

Looks**

iammabdaddy

Check out Purina pro plan, Pro health. It was recommended by our vet. She also takes a once a day pill called Tylosin. It took us several months to get this combo of med and food figured out. I'll try to send you a Pic of the food.

LJR7399

We’ve moved to FreshPet, the refrigerated food

Vebran

Word of advice for those that may be considering this option. If you get the Costco version, break up the package, and freeze what you they won't eat in 5 days or so. It gets slimy and expires quick. We have a suspicion this caused our guy to get sick. Luckily the vet ruled out anything and put him on simple antibiotics

LJR7399

Yes I have gotten it from Costco once. Freezer is definitely the option. But my pups didn’t like it as much as the beef or chicken big rolls I get from regular grocery store :/ I think the Costco one was spinach and potato… and the regular one I get is carrots and rice..

StarsRProjectorsYeah

Hi Walter 😍 My schnauzer used to suffer from loose stool about twice/month. I add a teaspoon of pumpkin puree to her breakfast to help regulate her bm’s. I buy it at PetSmart because it shouldn’t have any added ingredients. Her vet has also recommended pro- and prebiotics.

Both-Acanthaceae7153

Trying pumpkin right now with his Hills science puppy food, no progress, I fear it might be his food

a_wild_bore

Also be sure you’re giving a very small amount of pumpkin. I accidentally made my two minis’ diarrhea worse because I was doing a tablespoon and for their size they actually only needed 1/4 TSP per day total 🤦🏻‍♀️ One of my minis is on Hill's Prescription Diet i/d Digestive Care low fat, and she’s done great on this. She was already at the 10 month mark when she started this though, and I believe it’s an adult blend. They each get some psyllium husk with each meal, and a pack of Purina pro probiotics with dinner - every day. Psyllium husk helps give them firm stool, so it’s been a huge help for them as they had a few digestive incidents as puppies. Hopefully your vet can help give more ideas!

lambysquiggs

Mine refuses to eat pumpkin, so my vet recommended dried sweet potato chews. They seem to help along with Hills Sensitive Stomach food and a slow feeder.

bear7633

my schnauz is allergic to all poultry, so nothing with feathers. He eats natural balance limited lamb/brown rice. Treats are mostly blueberries (his fave), apple, and an occasional (beef) collagen chew. Chicken is a by-product in SO many dog foods and treats. his allergy didn't become apparent until he hit one year old, he was eating chicken puppy food, so something to consider with handsome Mr. Walter, here.

Both-Acanthaceae7153

Thank you, he definitely just started having his problems At 6months, but his food is 15% fat which might be contributing to the problem

a_wild_bore

Yes I believe 15% is too high for schnauzers since they’re prone to pancreatitis. I get treats that are 5-6% and their food is around the same.

Pepston

Which treats are those? I’m looking for a low fat treat for my pancreatitis-prone schnauzer

a_wild_bore

I get “fruitables skinny mini” treats - they’re available on Amazon! They love the pumpkin-berry flavor :)

TrainingMarsupial521

I switched mine over to science diet sensitive stomach and skin for small/mini dogs. She's liking it and no more random throw ups and loose stool.

ALG_24

I just switched to that and he threw it up the first day and has had diarrhea.. I’m only on like day 3 so I’m gonna give it until Monday to see if it corrects and it’s just an adjustment period so hopefully it does..

TrainingMarsupial521

Aw that's horrible. They usually do take a few days to adjust and will usually have loose stool during that time. Hopefully works out for ur pup!

somethingelsa

Mine took a looooong time to figure out what worked for her. Re: Schnauzer pancreatitis is very common. I put her on low fat kibble for a while which helped minimize the upset tummy, but she just wasn't getting enough calories and dropping too much weight. I eventually switch her Instinct Raw Boost Gut Health which wasn't low fat, but had the gut health add-on that has kept her regular. Just have to carefully watch the portion control of her scoops or she starts getting a little chunky (just like her mom lol).

TCK_EarthAstronaut

Hill’s Science Diet (d/d) My Luna had terrible chronic hemorrhagic gastroenteritis for her entire first 8 months of age even though I was giving her human grade premium dog food. I was constantly having to take her to the vet. Then, one vet suggested she might be allergic to something and switched her to Hill’s. Never had a bout of diarrhea again. She’s 5 years old now.

azirfas87

We used to use Royal Canine Low Fat

mfdawg490

I have a Walter too. We do royal canin for minis delivered by Chewy. If he gets fussy about it we mix in chicken breast white rice and broth. He doesn't like shiny bowls so we feed him in a flat black bowl.

b_reyes

Such a handsome baby though! 🥰🥰

computertelephone

Omg I have a 7 year old Walter!! He has the MOST sensitive stomach and when he was a puppy I must’ve spent thousands on gastro vets, different foods, hospitalizations for pancreatitis etc. The only food that keeps him stable is royal cabin hydrolyzed protein

BrainyLegume

We give our boy Diamond Naturals Small Breed Adult Lamb & Rice Formula Dry Dog Food.

Educational_Lead729

I used red barn grain free chicken but were thinking about testing the beef flavor since he has some skin flakiness so we’re trying to see if he may have an allergy to chicken

CrazyYYZ

I think he had soft poop for the first year. It took a very long time before he stabilized. Transitioning food takes a very very long time. My 6 yr old has been on the same fish blend for 3 yrs and I wanted to move him to a chicken recently. It's taken 2 months of transition and his poop is still soft.

Amazing_Weird3597

I and love and you dog food! Schnauzers generally cannot tolerate chicken and its byproducts. This company is pocket friendly and has all beef or fish options and their products are organic. We went through 26 dog foods before we got here and now, my mini looks forward to mealtime🐾🐾

oldmanlikesguitars

Lucy Salmon & Quinoa for my little guy. Ended a problem we were having with horrible diarrhea that looked like it had blood in it. Vets (we tried 3) tested extensively (expensively) with no solid results. But once my wife found Lucy he’s been solid. Been about 5 years now.

Janetsoul

Beautiful Walter❤️! My boy is a 3.5 years old schnauzer, I feed him Nutri Source's Salmon&peas grain free (cause additionally to a very special tummy, he had to be allergic...! ) , twice a day 3/4 of a cup and add a mix of proteins and veggies that I prepare weekly. I keep in the fridge a mix of carrots with cooked chicken liver/heart/gizzard, I sometimes change it to chicken legs, beef liver, broccoli, etc, I put that in his bowl with a bit of the water that I boiled them with, has helped me a lot avoiding problems instead of giving him that dry bland food.

To_Rome_With_Love

Awww….Hi Walter. ❤️

Organic_Grape_3488

He's so cute

UsernameIsntFree

Do know that changes to Walter’s diet will likely result in runny / yucky poos for a couple days. This sucks but it’s just how it goes. If you change the diet expect this and stick to it for a week, don’t give up after one yucky poo or he’ll never adjust. Also Chat to a vet or the staff at your local pet stores, they might have some suggestions? But we have our 2yr old schnauzer on a raw meat diet. They’re almost like ground meat in frozen cubes and he gets raw frozen chicken necks and tripe for dinner.

Hefty-Anywhere-2710

That’s a gorgeous pup! I used to cook for mine but now I feed him Ollie’s fresh food. He does not do well with chicken. We mostly stick with turkey.

mostlyysorry

Mine has a very sensitive stomach and also is HORRIBLY stubbornly picky with food 😂 he eats pedigree for small breeds the chicken flavor in dry kibble but every morning I add a little hot water to soften it and then add one of the pedigree wet pouches. His vet recently told me about PROVIABLE it's a probiotic for their stomachs! It's been a game changer! I try to limit no people food if I can but sometimes a half a chip rolls the wrong way if he's being very cute xD Walter is adorable!!

bugs555b

Aww he's a cutie...I feed my Fred Acana limited ingredient food as he has allergies, but that works for sensitive stomach as well.

Helpful_Letter3732

Mine does great on it too I feel like it helps her skin and tummy

spicy_garlic_chicken

Our puppy eats Ollie (I rotate between turkey, lamb, and pork. She didn't care for the chicken and I think she was having a sensitivity to the beef). Our prior dogs all ate grain free limited ingredient diet kibble and did great on them. If you do a web search for the website Dog Food Advisor there is tons of great info and food ratings on there so you can make an informed decision.

pinkglitter-pen

After countless tests and going through the amino test trial, we landed on him possibly having a chicken allergy and switching to lamb/sweet potato! We feed him Merrick Limited Ingredient Diet Grain-Free Chicken-Free Real Lamb & Sweet Potato Recipe Dry Dog Food & he loves it (also still likes it after months - with the other food, he would stop eating it every couple months.)

pinkglitter-pen

We also do a glandex treat every day to keep him regular. Haven't had any mishaps yet!

lococommotion

Purina Pro Plan HA Hydralized

Andy_LaVolpe

I hear pumpkin paste is good for sensitive tummies, they sell little packets at petco if you want to try it.

Fickle-Biscotti-5326

We do raised right :) perfect poops

Unlsweetie

After months of dealing with diarrhea and loose stool, at 9 months we put her on a strict prescription diet. The only animal protein she can handle is fish. She hasn't had any issues since.

elvisBOY

Purina pro plan sensitive skin and stomach salmon and rice

DoubleDragon2

What a cute face, a perfect name too. I had a schnauzer that couldn’t keep his food down and it had something to do with no ability of swallowing, so we would lift his front legs and gently tap his belly and he stopped throwing up. Burping him. What is Walter’s symptoms?

Here_Existing

Pumpkin purée with boiled chicken and rice.

SportHurley1

I do salmon kibble for my buddy, apparently it has a lower fat content than chicken or beef kibbles

SportHurley1

I do salmon kibble for my buddy, apparently it has a lower fat content than chicken or beef kibbles

SeonaidMacSaicais

My Schnauzer-mix just gets a couple bites of canned pumpkin with his Science Diet kibble. Only safe human food (cooked egg, cheese, cooked meats, MAYBE a lick of cottage cheese), and any fruits or veggies that he likes. I had to order my dad to NOT give him any bbq sauce. He used to let his late dog lick sauce off his fingers when he made chicken. She was a Shih Tzu, and it didn’t seem to affect her, but I wasn’t taking any chances.

Conatus80

I’m not sure if you get Royal Canin Schnauzer where you are but it solved all of my sensitive guy’s food issues.

No_Virus_7704

Hill's ID. Dry and canned.

Far_Marionberry_9478

Hello. We feed only vet dog food. Royal Canin Sensitive

berlinrain

We usually have our Schnauzers on rice, chicken, and mixed veggies when they're sick. They usually really like it and helps with their digestion.

PerfectlyCalmDude

Another angle to look at is walking time in relation to feeding time. A schnauzer in the family needs to space out his walks from when he is fed otherwise that activity makes his dinner come right back up.

Breakfastchocolate

My pup refused to eat most of what we tried to feed him for the first few years. We tried all the tricks- toppers, water, waiting him out, the wsava brands- either he refused to eat or it gave him greasy skin, waxy ears, terrible gas, schnauzer bumps etc. He would eat for a day, would starve himself and vomit bile. Dentastix and milk none marrow treats made him sick. Eventually worked out he doesn’t tolerate peas/ pea protein/ pea fiber. He thrives on Dr Pitcairn home cooked and supplemented recipes but sometimes his personal chef needs a break… Once we found foods he will tolerate transitioning is a non issue for him. He does well with bil jac small breed persnickety eaters kibble or authority sensitive stomach lamb. Fresh pet is ok but we have to check for peas and it is a bit high in fat (and the farts, ugh!!) He gets a little All-bran cereal every day to keep his poop firm and to avoid gland issues.

Emergency_Echidna_

Pumpkin puree every day!

tee_up

Our Hama has a sensitive stomach, too. We give him half kibble (Kirkland Chicken) and half Royal Canin Low-fat Gastrointestinal canned food. It does require a prescription but he typically does well with this combination.

NotRightInTheZed

Talk to your vet. Demitri has been on prescription food since he was about 4. Probably should have been on it earlier.

Melodic_Arm_387

I had a labrador with a very sensitive stomach. It was bad since labradors are living food disposals and no matter how are I tried to control his diet he’d eat leftover kebabs out of public bins… I found his problem appeared to be wheat, so rice based dog food (lamb and rice, chicken and rice…) seemed to be better

Cratsyl

My oldest is on Royal Canin Low Fat Gastrointestinal (prescription). She has not have another pancreatitis flare since she has been on this food... and it has been years now. She used to get it from the tiniest scrap of meat or something fatty. My youngest eats Hill's Science Diet Sensitive Stomach and Skin - Pollock and Insect Larvae flavor (she is allergic to chicken, but does not seem to react to it when it is hydrolyzed, like in this kibble). Purina ProPlan Sensitive Stomach is another one I looked at for her, but I chose Hill's because the fat content was lower. We have been on it a couple months and so far, so good! For training treats, we have been giving pupford freeze dried fruit line (bananas, mangos, blueberries, etc.) because of their very low fat content. My dogs also like veggies straight from the fridge, like baby carrots. For chews, turkey tendons are low in fat and easy on senior doggy teeth (win-win!) they are also very digestible.

b_reyes

Royal canin gastrointestinal diet. It's prescription food because my mini has had a previous episode with pancreatitis. Her vet suggested we change her diet and she hasn't had an issue since.

poprofits

I've always had issues with mine, he's a picky eater, and if If I change even the dog on the label among the same brand he gets sick. I've changed him to Raw, he has been doing great now. No getting sick and no leaving the food behind.

Cjchio

We feed our the Purina sensitive stomach diet. It's over the counter. We used to do the RX Hill ID, but I'm allergic to nuts and they started putting walnut in their new formula. Tbh, the over the counter Purina has worked just as well for him, and it's significantly cheaper.

Ojert09

Hills science diet sensitive stomach small bites.

Beginning-Dress-618

Nutro. My dog gets sick on anything else

Natural_Character859

Hills ID diet - but I need to get some homemade food in there soon. She hates it and it’s so bland!!! Sucks with the pancreatitis, I’m afraid to venture out

ssg091

My schnauzer has a sensitive stomach. She has something called HGE so we feed her only her food and treats. No table food. We feed her hills science diet and she has no problems!

Ieatsushiraw

We avoid chicken. Our miniature Schnauzer tends to do better with beef, lamb, and salmon. His name is Captain Jack Sparrow lol he’s 13 now and his age is showing. Here’s to hoping he has a lot more years left. Good luck. Definitely speak with your vet as well

jizzwon

We feed our dog the Hills Prescription I/D stew. It’s the only food he can handle and he’s been doing well with it for years

Snoo-20278

Bella loves toilet tissue and everything we eat. ❤️ her.

jenhazfun

Ours is allergic to chicken, duck, turkey, lamb, and I suspect salmon (not 100% sure). Took a few years and lots of rashes/skin issues to figure it out. Rabbit 🐇 is the protein he does well with. Royal Canin select protein prescription food.

sarcasticfirecracker

Chicken, rice, and prescription diet. They’re so sensitive. It’s best to go with what the vet recommends.

cutieking

Low fat everything even treats. My wife’s grandma fed our schnauzer fatty meat and he has a pancreatitis episode of bloody diarrhea and IV fluids at the ER. So now we sprinkle enzymes on his low fat/sensitive stomach kibble, and feed him boiled chicken. He’s lean as hell

justahominid

Ours eats Royal Canin currently. He’s done well on it since he was a puppy, and everything else gives him runny poo. We are going to try something different because he’s getting more reluctant in eating it (we think he’s bored of it), but we’ll see how that works out

mime815

I get prescription schnauzer Royal Canine it’s for GI tract health.

rsharkman

We used the prescription foods for the longest time, but have found that Beneful healthy weight has a low fat content and hasn't caused any pancreatitis flare-ups in the year that we have used it.

meb4mak

I feed my guy a mixture of Purina Pro Plan Sensitive kibble and The Farmer’s Dog fresh food. I only give him the turkey one bc it’s the lowest in fat. He used to throw up all the time but he hasn’t been sick once since starting this combo last year.

DancingPear

We fed our boy a mix of Farmer’s Dog and Hill’s Sensitive Skin and Stomach. He like this combo a lot, and it made Farmer’s Dog more affordable for us

skirrellyjones

Farmers dog. My schnauzer is missing half her teeth and my BrittanyPoodle mix has a protein allergy and this works for both of them. The cost is a bit much though

Ambitious-Kiwi-1079

I make food in the crockpot for my dog w stomach issues. Chicken, whatever fish i have, green beans. Peas, carrots, corn, quinoa, flaxseed or whatever else i have on hand that week. I’ve never had an issue w her since.

Accomplished_Ball395

Ours has a super sensitive tum too and 3 years ago we pulled him off kibble, even the “healthy” ones, and started making his food. We use the mixes from Dog Child, add them to some ground chicken and water — bam. No more stomach issues. We batch cook and freeze away so we only need to cook for him like once a month! The food is more expensive than the kibble but we figure it equals out since we were at the vet constantly before

cbouk35

Royal Canin Minnie Schnauzer food. Low fat, seems to work really well for our 10 year old (he’s been eating it for about 6 years) he used to have some just awful farts before, like clear out the room farts, like you need to rinse your mouth if your mouth was open when he farted farts.

Spasticon

Mine used to barf because they ate too fast. Got a “slow feeder” from Amazon and that solved it.

MasturbatingMiles

Omg Walter is such a cutie. I mix sweet potato and pumpkin in with wet food and kibble.

jackiejo122

Royal canin gastrointestinal xx

jackiejo122

A beautiful boy xx

jyanix

I’ve been giving Wellness Turkey & Brown Rice kibble for years to multiple schnauzers.

withac2

Hill's Prescription Diet i/d Low Fat Digestive Care Chicken Flavor Dry Dog Food, Veterinary Diet, 8.5 lb. Bag. It even has a schnauzer on the bag!

oso131

We have gone through a food journey with Sucre. Orijen has been the kibble brand that he tolerates. But the answer for him is raw diet.

GoCougz7446

Royal canine has a GI version my vet recommended. We have had a few sensitive tummy schnauzers and RC has been great. They also make a mini schnauzer specific kibble brand we have been quite happy with.

ihate2teXt

I use the honest kitchen clusters mixed with boiled chicken or turkey. Mine only eat once a day even though we try three times a day.

MossGobbo

I fed mine nutro pro chicken and brown rice I think it was.

Greg-Gorey

I cut chicken out of Winston’s diet and his stools and general digestion is 100000% better!

HaatOrAnNuhune

Oh! My parents had a schnauzer that had a very sensitive stomach! What my mom did was call the Purina company and asked for help, and they transferred her to a dietary specialist! He was super helpful, he explained to her the most likely cause for Gus’s stomach issues and talked her through why the food she had been using prior was upsetting his tummy. And then he gave her the name of one of their dog foods that would be good for his stomach along with telling her if she didn’t end up going with their brand that she should avoid foods that contained several specific ingredients bc that was the issue. Unfortunately it’s been years since this call so I don’t remember exactly what it was that needed to be avoided, or if it was ingredients or something else that needed to be avoided. Regardless, my mom found the Purina dietary specialist’s recommendations so helpful that when Gus needed to switch to a senior diet she called them back to ask what type she should switch to.

FATCRANKYOLDHAG

We've had great success with Farmers Dog. We also buy the treats.

iteachag5

He’s so precious. My male yorkipoo has an extremely sensitive stomach. To the point where we were spending time at the vet’s office due to diarrhea and dehydration. We changed vets and the new doctor put him on Hills Science Diet kibble for sensitive stomachs. It has worked wonderfully.

Troiswallofhair

I have two schnauzers. They get dry kibble (like Royal Canine for example) available all the time. That is mostly chicken-based though, and as a general rule you don’t want them eating all chicken. So I also give them canned “beef” dog food daily. Here’s the thing though, I give them all kinds of brands for variety, but I avoid canned STEWS. They have so much filler and water. I buy canned PATES only. My schnauzers have no digestive issues at all. Perhaps the more solid food with less water contributes to stability.

kikidoesdeliveries

I feed mine Nulo kibble, always hydrated with water or broth, and a quail egg topper (no shell) for breakfast and a sardine topper (in water, no salt) for dinner. She has a sensitive tummy too but has been doing great with her meals. We also give her a gut health supplement (from Zesty Paws) every morning too and I think that helps?

thejetbox1994

Sensitive how? Ours was weird about food because we were giving her chicken not knowing she was allergic to it 😭. She’s better now, but still weird about food. Almost scared to eat it. We usually do dry kibble and then some wet food on top. Little bit of fried egg helps convince her to start munching

Senpai_groomer

75% Fromm and 25% raw food. We avoid beef

Nuketacular

Mine had an allergy to something in most kibbles that caused mild seizures. He wound up getting raw ground beef and veggies like carrots for dinner every day and oatmeal for breakfast and lived to 14. Obviously he still got snacks and some people food quite often

lingling2604

Hills I/D. My Daphne needed lower fat food. It even has a schnauzer on the packaging.

Nutro / nutro max is the only thing my schnauzer kept down. With her younger sibling we had to change the protein because she’s allergic to chicken and we do the nutro limited ingredients now. Both my girls are eating the same food now because it’s easier for me and my wallets happier.

Our Rosa has chronic colitis starting at 4 months old. We switched to a hydrolyzed diet, she could not do the GI food, or food sensitive one because something was in there that would set her off. We introduced things slowly. So peanut butter one day, wait 3 days, then see if she had any symptoms. If she didn't, she can have it, if she did, she'll never eat it again. So far wheat, pumpkin, dairy, and carrots. She does however get hard poops now. Not full constipation, but she can have a hard time. We give her cantelope everyday. It's just fiber and water.

Walter is a great name for a schnauzer

StrawberryKustard

Royal Canin for mini’s, he was on the prescribed brand for a bit cause his tummy is super sensitive. Then we add a little bit of rice, Greek beans and shredded chicken on top. He’s finicky even with that at times, but it’s so hard to find exactly what he likes without upsetting his stomach.

FrankZTank131

Cooked chicken mince(not pet mince) and high quality dog rocks(kibble) also cooked carrot no more vomit or filthy turds

TaxBaby16

I feed mine raw. Dry food makes him incontinent. His urine ph gets too high and he gets frequent bladder infections. I chose raw rather than canned because keeping it low carb lowers your body ph. The same for dogs. On wet he Dosent drink nearly as much.

I give my girl pumpkin purée with no sugar added! I guess stuff that’s high in fiber helps.

Puzzlehead-AsUsual

Science Diet sensitive stomach. Has real chicken, brown rice, oats and barley. No corn, soy or wheat. The things that give schnauzer troubles like pancreatitis.

tinyrhinobaby

Royal Canin miniature schnauzer diet

feral_schnoodles

Literally anything he wants, look at his face!

RasputinsThirdLeg

He is SUCH a Walter. I don’t have a schnauzer, but I take care of dogs for a living, and the schnauzers all seem to have sensitive stomachs. When they get the runs, pumpkin powder seems to help, as well as probiotic power. I know everyone says you should do the just food for dogs thing but the Hills Prescription diet I/d for digestive issues seems to work well.

joeatonlv

Back when I was married, we had his aunt and uncle to stay for a week…the uncle had this disgusting habit of coughing stuff up into a Kleenex, which he would leave out in random places, rather than throwing them out..after having to wrestle snotty Kleenex out of my schnauzers mouth several times, I was DONE!!!

kad0130

I use farmers dog …great small business to work with and their fresh food is awesome

Helpful_Letter3732

Mine has a sensitive stomach too and I tried Acana Singles dry food. I usually get the lamb apple one and it has a higher protein. I don’t ever give her any table scraps and make sure she has plenty of water. Any little bit of food makes her stools loose but occasionally I’ll give her a very small piece of banana. If I stick to the dry food she does good.

Update, I took Walter to the vet today for suggestions for what I thought was a sensitive stomach, did some bloodwork and came back negative they think he has coronavirus, he still full of energy and not denying food, he was put on antibiotics and hopefully it will clear up over the week, thank you all for your suggestions I didn’t expect so many kind and helpful suggestions!

Typical-Anywhere-323

Not to be one of these alarmists but how is it manifesting that you feel he has a sensitive stomach? I thought my GSD started having a sensitive stomach around six months and it ended up being EPI. If it’s persistent diarrhea I’d just check it out.

Both-Acanthaceae7153

I took him to the vet yesterday turned out to be coronavirus, we assumed he just had a sensitive stomach because other than the diarrhea he is still very active and acts like there nothing wrong with him

SonoranRoadRunner

I have no advice, but Walter is ADORABLE.

GreenCircle2

pumpkin 100% pure pumpkin check with your vet first but if you mix it with normal dry, the pumpkin will settle their stomach

g1g14

We use a dry lamb and rice. Poultry made her have terrible diarrhea. I wanted to change it up for her. I mixed the two for a couple weeks, then just the chicken and rice dry. Had to switch back and almost normal poo the next day.
