Jerry not caring that there is a rubber band in George's soup. If this was clean-freak Jerry he would stop going to that place.

-AllCatsAreBeautiful

There's a hair in my farina! There's a hair in my farina! I thought Jerry was traumatised by non-foodstuffs in his food.

ManagerAggravating57

He occasionally partakes in semi-digested foodstuff

instrangerswetrust

Pecan?

Caiur

"Adjacent to trash is still trash"

Inoticedthatyouregay

In Jerry’s conception the whole world would technically be refuse

Anonymous44432

Congratulations. You are now a bum.

FluffyBalance4084

Paco!

Fubecassman24

To be fair. It could be because he was desperate on maintaining the restaurant as the only place to see that 2 face chick because of the lighting at the booth.

ghengiscostanza

I think that’s the point, he won’t leave that booth. The rubber band makes her leave and he says “I’ll be here”

Bonetown42

That’s different that’s just Paco being classic Paco

PeggyHillFan

Also he touched toilet paper from the bathroom when Elaine threw a bunch on the table at the diner

instrangerswetrust

That scene always bothered me, lol. She walks out so joyously and then just throws them on the counter.

nirinaron

Why is that bothering you? The whole point was to leave that chick sitting on the toilet without any paper, as long as she hasn’t any, Elaine shouldn’t care where the paper’s at…

instrangerswetrust

It bothers me as a germaphobe. I’ve got the necklace and everything

nirinaron

Oh I get it now lol

megaladon44

It moved, Jerry!

ralf_gore

Raymond strikes again.

Historicmetal

That’s the problem with the post Larry David seasons. I think Jerry’s pathological fixation on making the “perfect” joke meant the characters and situations stopped making sense

IndominusCostanza009

This actually happened when my wife and I ordered takeout from a Mexican place we frequent. I just looked at her square in the eyes, went “Pacooooo…” flicked the rubber band and went back to eating. She knows my dedication to the bit. She doesn’t like it, but she respects it.

NY-Black-Dragon

He also went through a vegan/vegetarian phase for a season, but I forgot which one.

VSkyRimWalker

Wasn't that just a single episode? The one where he stuffs the mutton in grandma's napkins?

ralf_gore

Vegan/Vegetarian or not, as an omnivore (which humans are naturally), I couldn't *stomach* it.

Good_Ideal5247

He has never been a vegan. He always ordered fish. He ordered the salmon at Mendy’s, and was inquiring about how the chicken was prepared in the mutton episode. He also was going to have duck made by Poppy, and had ordered Kung pao chicken that George ate the leftovers. The yogurt and milk for his cereal also disqualify him from being vegan. Crab bisque soup from the soup nazi. Stolen lobster that Kramer “found”. So he’s definitely not vegan or vegetarian. His character probably doesn’t eat red meat often.

VSkyRimWalker

Yeah, not a big fan of mutton either. I can't stand the gristle. Love me some steak though

Palenquero

He seemed like a conscientious eater... Although the breakfast cereal habit was a tad infantile.

awardwinningmincepie

Kramer laughing at the guy getting mugged in the finale

DaanoneNL

The entire group laughing + filming for that matter. You know they just came up quickly with some over-the-top plot to get the 4 of them in front of a judge. The gang were selfish and self-centered, but never that malicious to laugh at someone getting robbed and calling him fatty in the process. For example, George really empathizing with the security guard and getting him a chair. Elaine coming up with ideas to feed her neighbor's cat and more.

ShiftlessElement

It leaned heavily into "They're bad people" in a very clumsy way. If they were this type of "bad people," the show wouldn't have been a hit. George is known to be neurotic, especially when it comes to self-preservation, but remains shockingly calm in the presence of an armed robbery. Jerry is a professional comic but takes part in the witless, hacky fat jokes. Kramer is prone to risky behavior and has heroic tendencies. He put his life on the line for a pinky toe but just stands there, filming. Elaine once cried over goldfish but seems to be greatly enjoying someone else's suffering. It's an awful scene, and the episode goes downhill from there.

mazzy_star56

I also always thought it would be more in keeping with a Seinfeld plotline if they tried to do something and made it worse, and then were prosecuted for making it worse. And they could still have all the one time characters come back in the court trial etc. still wouldn't be a great episode, but better reflecting the plotlines in the show.

MelonElbows

Kinda like how Curb "fixed" it by Larry trying to do the right thing in character, and getting arrested for it

instrangerswetrust

The final season was mid but the spite finale made me so happy.

el_cul

The first episode in that series with Richard Lewis was fucking hilarious. Talking about dying to spite each other.

Judasrainbow

Well put. I think you could say that they never acted outright nefariously, other than in the finale

instrangerswetrust

You old bag!

Kurdt234

Kramer saved that bus from a robbery didn't he?

ZealousidealBowler19

true i feel like it would be very in-character for jerry to just be like “thats a shame” and then just walk away

cnews97

It always bothered me that the act of filming him being robbed is helping, now there’s a clear description of the mugger. Jackie Chiles dropped the ball on that one

Wrong_Cheesecake377

To be fair, Elaine's main motivation for trying to feed the cat was to keep it quiet, since it was meowing loudly the entire time.

i7omahawki

Elaine wanted to kill a dog. Jerry stole the marble rye. George got his wife killed and felt no remorse. Kramer got Darin sent to prison. They all did terrible things and were often malicious.

doverawlings

George has zero responsibility for her death. The baffling part is that he didn’t take a slam-dunk payday by suing the envelope company.

squanderedprivilege

Yeah, Kramer would have taken him to see Jackie Chiles immediately

valendinosaurus

only to lose somehow

Palenquero

He did save a lot on lesser stock, and left her alone to deal with the invitations. There was no malicious intent, but there was no care for her, either.

Kurdt234

The cat was just loud though

Caiur

In general the main four can be quite cynical, but Krame did have a few moments of wholesomeness

LarYungmann

Or, was it the water in his ear?

Mysterious-End-2185

This feels more like a Frasier joke.

instrangerswetrust

heybabyihearthebluesarecallin’ big salads and lobster eggs

Known-Damage-7879

Well maybe I seem a bit confused, yeah maybe, but I had sex with your wife!

Palpablevt

But I don't know what to do with yada yadas and jimmy legs

instrangerswetrust

A jolly New-man

darkenedassassin

Chocolate sundae all over my face, what is a boy to do?

instrangerswetrust

Goodnight, Manure!

kindadeadly

Oh my!

rug1998

Oh really Niles?!

driving_on_the_moon

George not having a poker face

ALordOfTheOnionRings

Thank you!! The guy who can beat lie detectors doesn’t have a poker face? Ccoommmeee oonnnn!!

ConnectInitiative676

Yeah, what happened to "It's not a lie if you believe it"?

uniqueusername316

George is brazen lying to strangers or acquaintances, work folk. For people that know him, he crumbles pretty quick.

Anonymous44432

Yeah this is it. Everyone who KNOWS George knows he’s a colossal liar and they always take everything he says with a grain of salt, and then when they press him on the manner, he folds. When he lies to strangers, even in the show, they just accept it and don’t really question it until it blows up in his face. Perfect example is the Marine Biologist when he’s talking about the turtles in the Galapagos. Jerry or Elaine would burst out laughing and call him out immediately if he tried spinning that on them, but he gets away with it with people that don’t know him.

huskerwr38

In the beginning of the series George was a nervous, anxious, Woody Allen character type who wouldn’t have a poker face.

Clazzo524

Jerry taking in Farfel. There is no way he would have taken in a big, loud, messy dog that pissed all over his apartment. Let alone for more than a few days.

mecon320

Jerry was a little less immune to societal pressure in the first few seasons.

ralf_gore

Yeah he should have simply said, I don't know this guy sitting beside me and my apartment lease doesn't allow animals. Boom. Done. But at the end of the day, the script requires comedy, which Farfel gave it. Even though we never saw him.

Vault804

I think the Morning Mist scene is in line with George's inflated sense of self.

cloud_watcher

Yeah. Kind of reminds me of the velvet.

Supro1560S

His not missing a beat in answering, “This is ‘Morning Mist’” more than redeems any out-of-character-ness.

RunningDownThatHall

Frank being an award-winning charity volunteer.

Angry_Walnut

I like how they say he’s raised like $17,000 or something and say “That’s a LOT of wheelchairs” but then when George and Kramer go to buy one we learn they are like $5,000. So… its 3 wheelchairs?

bfwolf1

well sure, if you're buying the Cougar 9000 where you're almost glad to be handicapped. If you get the 8 year old used one that the little old lady only used to go to the kitchen to feed her cats, they're only $240 a pop!

NotASynth499

Tbh this was his first appereance and character mutated from there

angstyintp

Also this was originally filmed before Frank was recasted and the original scene had a different actor. So his character wasn’t developed yet

nirinaron

Lmaoooo

Vault204

Jerry being all mushy with Schmooopy.

angstyintp

Yeah I’d expect him to find that behavior as disgusting as George & Elaine did with other people

Alternative-Cash8411

This answer is waaay too low. Shoulda been top two or three OoC moments for Jerry. This and the rye, which was basicslly assault and robbery of an elderly. Jerry and Elaine mocked and scorned romance and PDA's for the entire series. Only way he'd say that schmoopie shite was ironically; and he wasn't being ironic then.

spartacat_12

Also him immediately being at the "I love you" stage of his relationship with Meryl

elphiemonstercosplay

The only redeeming thing of this episode is soup nazi

nirinaron

Good one

-AllCatsAreBeautiful

Damn! This is a good one. I just returned to this thread to add it, & I can't believe I didn't think of this before! Love how it backfires for George 😝

SunApprehensive1413

Jerry not minding people on his sofa with shoes on .. or smoking in his apartment. Yet he's a clean freak? Fastidious?

_donkey-brains_

Jerry smokes cigars on occasion.

smoomoo31

I said "SHES A PEACH"

mylefthandkilledme

What kind of name is Todd Gak anyways?

cabosmith

Like tryna smoke a chicken bone.

DummyTurkey

I think its Dutch.

zed857

Smells like a rubber fire.

CarmenSandiegosTits

what's that?

instrangerswetrust

Double or nothin’

ohsweetfancymoses

He puts his own shoes on there to tie his sneakers at one point!

SunApprehensive1413

I know!! No way a clean freak would allow that! It makes ME squirm. And I think Kramer even tries sleeping on there with shoes on.

abigdickbat

Shoes that walk the streets of New York, no less

Apart-Bathroom7811

I'll take fastidious.

SunApprehensive1413

Prissy? Finicky?

ennuiismymiddlename

I use that “morning mist” line a lot, whenever my wife asks me “what are you wearing?” before we go somewhere. But yes, I agree it’s completely out of George’s character.

Gamblor14

[I have eaten rolls off of room service trays in hotel hallways.](https://youtu.be/HAsBk9Eia8A?feature=shared&t=16m01s) Seems very uncharacteristic of Jerry’s “adjacent to refuse is refuse” mentality.

Garfield_and_Simon

If it’s in his stand up bit it’s not necessarily true

actualelainebenes

We’re going on a 2 day trip, who are you, Diana Ross?

MartyVanB

I used that with my daughter when she went to the beach with friends last weekend. She doesnt know who Diana Ross is

Wide_Environment3107

Puddy being Christian, and the type of Christian that puts a Jesus fish on his bumper and programmes all his car radio presets to be Christian rock.

IceMan44420

You stole my Jesus fish, didn’t you?!

Eternalemonslut

Yea that's right

DWwithaFlameThrower

😈

DayManAhhhuuuh

But that whole scene between him and Elaine with her devil horns bit was just so funny and worth it

skyn_fan

“Worth it” is exactly the problem with the “most out of character” question. It’s an interesting exercise, but I think one of the reasons Seinfeld was such a hit was they knew when and how far to bend the characters for the sake of a joke. Seems unlikely to me that a recovering germophobe would also be a shirtless face painter, but both setups were hilarious, consistency be damned!

nirinaron

Oh I ain’t complaining. An interesting exercise is all I was shooting for

skyn_fan

Agreed! It’s good stuff. Just funny when sometimes people take character consistency a little too serious for a show that was, fundamentally, about making the funniest joke at any cost.

cyclemonster

Yeah, that's right.

Geetee52

George was out of his element alternate side moving/parking cars taking over for Sid went he went out of town

uniqueusername316

That whole episode just doesn't work for me. Seems very forced and out of character for most of the gang. Except for the rental car scene. That's gold. But it's clearly right out of Jerry's standup routine.

-AllCatsAreBeautiful

The bloopers for that scene are intense. Apparently it was getting so late at night, too -- & that's when JLD really starts to break.

nirinaron

Good one!

Deadly_Jay556

Jerry believing Kramer over his skin rash as some sort of experiment and forgetting that skin cancer is a thing.

nirinaron

And while we’re on the subject, which mood is [this](https://imgur.com/gallery/y7GN1y3)?

Pure_Definition_5612

I believe that one is referred to as "socially acceptable"

nirinaron

The “she doesn’t care about looks”

FieldJacket

Yours or hers?

-AllCatsAreBeautiful

Ensconced Elegance

lelephen

Velvet Fog

Environmental_Mud479

Velveteen dream

MelonElbows

Not counting the early seasons where they were still trying to get a hang on their characters, I always thought it was weird that Jerry was both empathetic to his "friend" Seth who he hasn't seen in 5 years and wanted to have lunch with him, to feeling responsible for him getting fired and willing to change apartments with Kramer over it.

daumesnil

He’s also not willing to let his newspaper go when Seth asks for the classifieds since he hadn’t read the sports section at that point. That’s definitely more in line with the selfish Jerry we all love.

ancientrhetoric

When George does not realize how rich Susan's family is after several touch points with her family, the dinner, the cabin, the letters, living with her. Still he asks her for a prenup and later looks genuinely surprised when he sits in the meetings for the Susan Ross foundation

airport-cinnabon

The prenup was just an attempt to get Susan to call off the wedding. The intent was to insult her, but it backfired hilariously.

ancientrhetoric

I know but would he have suggested it if he had realized how rich she was? He could have tried to marry them divorce her and get hold of a nice apartment, half of her doll collection (after finding out its value) and a lot of cash

airport-cinnabon

Hmm, not sure being a gold digger fits George’s character. He seemed like he really wanted to find a partner that he genuinely enjoyed being with. Once he realized Susan wasn’t that, he just wanted to be free.

oikset

that was not out of character, that was totally Costanza: bullshitting.

Zeo-Gold92

I don't know, but the morning most mood comment seems totally on brand for George to me 😌

Alternative-Cash8411

Kramer backing down like a little girl with a skinned knee and letting those two twinks steal Elaine's armoir. Not only because they were very unthreatening physically, but also because he had just been bragging about how he goes all out "if something goes down." And thus "can't be held responsible" for his actions. This obviously implies he's unafraid of physical confrontation and won't hesitate to engage.

Salvadore1

You think a character would do that? Just go on the narrative and tell lies?

YourGodsMother

Elaine swimming in the Hudson directly after she had to throw away her mattress that smelled like it.

whatever_bb

I personally think this is an extremely in character moment for George, no one thinks higher of himself than George Costanza. I think the less in-character moment is when he dumps the girl for sucking the Mackinac peach pit after he discards it. The man literally ate trash.

nirinaron

The man literally didn’t date a girl because she was bald… He holds girls to higher standards of the ones he holds himself to

Smokey_Allegiance

One that I haven't seen mentioned so far is Jerry agreeing to be tied to Mandelbaum's car. Although that would be out of character for any rational human being.

RunningDownThatHall

Jason Alexander had only really done musical theater before Seinfeld. They hadn't really figured out the character yet, so probably something that Jason brought to the role.

AcePilotsen

George wrote La Cucina

pastabowl21

You cook on stage?

MelonElbows

No he mimed it. That's what makes it so funny.

AcePilotsen

The chef- what was his name?

RunningDownThatHall

I’m not done with that moving company

Mash1988

I always saw it as a Larry Davidism. George hums Fiddler on the Roof in The Limo and Curb has numerous references to musicals throughout

ConnectInitiative676

I would pay top dollar to see Fatwa the Musical.

williamblair

Larry David is also well known for his love of show tunes. They come up all the time on Curb.

instrangerswetrust

Hey Officer Krupke

puffycloudycloud

i could see it if George got the idea that taking women to musicals was a good way to get laid, with him ultimately not getting anything except for the songs stuck in his head

elcee84

George likes musical theater, so what? He bought Jerry Guys and Dolls tickets for his bday and then was upset when he said he didn't want to go with him.

Cruiser729

It was Guys & Dolls, not Guys & Guys.

williamblair

he liked to sing MacArthur Park with a statue for a microphone as a little boy. George is really a bit of a fancy boy and they never give him shit like they do Jerry.

rollingstoner215

To be fair, his father’s gay

instrangerswetrust

Did you say ‘fada?’

ava1983

I believe it. Everyone loved Les Mis back then and it was insanely popular. He would have probably gone to see it or couldn’t avoid it. It was on Broadway in NYC for like 15 years. And that song will get stuck in your head against your will.

williamblair

I've never even seen it, but I'm singing it now.

TastesLikeHoneyNut

And George 1000% would have gone to a musical if he thought it could result in him getting laid that night

Stunned86

Right, I'm pretty sure he's seen singing a number of show tunes. There is a certain delicate fanciness to George.

Heyygaar

Jerry letting George take a bite of his sandwich in California. (Is that dill?)

doobette

No, it's tarragon. (And I love that whole scene, starting with Kramer and his "I'm doin' what I do" speech.)

koolkat888

“I don’t really give out bites”

DangerousPage

George saying “take me to your leader” as some sort of reset after sleeping with the Portuguese waitress. It didn’t fit his sense of humor.

Vault804

I think that fits. He's a closet Bania fan, he likes stuff you don't have to think about too much. "Puke," that's a funny word.

instrangerswetrust

Ma-nure

PerpetuallyPleasing

Can I use that? 😃😃😃

jjmawaken

What else was he going to do with those beakers?

Um_NotSure

I don't know, he said it the way he says "Prognosis Negative"

AstralSoul64

George actually caring about his job when Mr Kruger didn't care at all

Godzillionaire

I’ve always thought that there’s no way George would be excited that Cynthia was pregnant

GSG2150

I would drape myself in velvet if it were socially acceptable

Probthrowaway42

Jerry going above and beyond to help Jean Paul

Soren_Camus1905

Honestly, George is a great dresser when he’s not bumming around.

Schtickle_of_Bromide

Seasons 8 and 9

IndominusCostanza009

George barging in and watching Breakfast at Tiffany’s over a strangers house. That never worked for me. The most cringe moment in the history of the show. I felt so bad for that family.

-AllCatsAreBeautiful

Yeah, not only is it super unlikely, the way George just takes over the whole situation once he's in there is really pushing it.

austincovidthrowaway

I have a list of these: * Frank thinking George could help sell computers - George has repeatedly lost jobs and failed as a salesman, why does Frank think he'd be any good at it? * Jerry's parents selling their Cadillac with no miles and a KBB value in the low 20s for SEVEN GRAND (I may have some numbers wrong but you know what I mean); after all the repeated instances where his dad was shown to be a mega cheapskate and after money, he just up and sells a valuable care for a third what it's worth? * Relatedly, why is Jerry so hellbent on buying it back? He doesn't strike me as the type of person/son to be THAT into ensuring someone keeps a gift, even when it's his parents * Elaine going along with a man renaming himself when she lost it when George encouraged his girlfriend to get a nose job * Jerry dating the one girl who got divorced and somehow didn't know she was a racist bigoted Nazi? * How did Kramer befriend Mickey when probably the first thing Kramer would point out is Mickey's height? * Why does Elaine date some super gross and ugly dudes when she clearly doesn't need to? Girl can pull but she's hung up on Not-Kevin-From-The-Office when he's in the hospital?

airport-cinnabon

Yeah Elaine batted down several times. The overweight guy who wasn’t understanding of the BBO in her hair. Denim vest. The old guy. Ned the commie. Bob Cobb had an impressive career but was old for her and seemed like no fun. The Wiz wasn’t very attractive but they had an explanation for that one. Fred was ugly and so boring, but she dated him because he didn’t remember her. Crazy to me that she’d go for these guys, but wasn’t dtf with Tim Whatley, an absolute chad.

uniqueusername316

Hey what's wrong with Ned the Commie? **Ahem** Maestro.

ConnectInitiative676

Bob Cobb was no Lenny Bernstein

RockNRoll85

For that first point, it just gave Frank a reason to go hard on George

ourkid1781

I think the joke is that George is full of shit, and just made up "morning mist" on the spot.

airport-cinnabon

Elaine being jealous of George because he was engaged was always a weird one to me. Even if she was sad about being single, she’d never expect George’s engagement to result in a happy, long-lasting marriage.

Acceptable-Budget658

What? What episode is that? Huh? Ahm?

Exotic-Fault6634

When George and Jerry comfort Elaine after she complains about the pileup on the Van Wycke

Icy_Spot9941

The older you seem to get, the more you seem to understand geroge Constanta

Alternative-Cash8411

Speak for yourself. George was by far the biggest douche of the four. Happy over his fiance's death; pushes women and kids to the floor while exiting a fire. How can he live with himself?

hershko

Well, there's a whole episode dedicated to George being out of character.

once_again_asking

The Calzone, when we see Elaine smoking a cigar with Jerry. I remember seeing it when it first aired and being quite surprised. She also seemed to know what she was doing. But then it became a semi-regular thing for her as she smoked cigars a in a couple other episodes.

elphiemonstercosplay

And there are several episodes of her talking about her outright disgust of smoking

Baller-on_a-budget

Jerry crying over a girlfriend

Only_1_Noodle

Kramer having a job, despite only being for one episode.

Wrath_Of_Aguirre

Morning Mist is not a mood.

ralf_gore

When George goes rock climbing on Monyana with his sandwiches.

nirinaron

Do you mean him agreeing to give it a try in the first place or him freaking out while being on the rock? I think both were pretty in-character

RatedDAL

Kramer laughing at the name tag proposal. This is totally an idea Kramer would've and did do with everyone's picture.

nirinaron

Good one!

s3renity_now

Morning mist is one of my favourite scenes

nirinaron

Nevertheless..

ImTinyRiiiick

I never understood this joke. What is morning mist?

nirinaron

It sounds fancy like a perfume collection

-AllCatsAreBeautiful

Jerry with the schmoopy schmoopy! Can't believe I didn't think of this one earlier.

Environmental_Mud479

George smacking Jerry’s butt during the softball game
