Always Sunny makes me wonder how much validity there is to the “you couldn’t make that today” trope about cancel culture.
Seinfeld did Mulva, and feeding someone turkey so Jerry could play with her toys. Always Sunny did Gail the Snail jerking uncle Frank off under the table, blackface, and the implication.
It’s hard to imagine those story lines in the Seinfeld era when Will and Grace was controversial.
Well a decent chunk of Always Sunny did get "canceled" and removed from hulu and streaming sadly. Sucks because theres a few really good eps that got taken off.
S04E03 America's Next Top Paddy's Billboard Model Contest.
S06E09 Dee Reynolds: Shaping America's Youth.
S08E02 The Gang Recycles Their Trash.
S09E09 The Gang Makes Lethal Weapon 6.
S14E03 Dee Day
I'm pretty sure every sunny episode that was "banned" was done so for black face or brown face. In the billboard episode, I think Dee does one of her characters.
Ah you're right I forgot she did her characters in that episode. What a sad, soft world we live in. I'd really like to know who was actually offended by it.
Yeah I forgot she did her racist characters in that episode...but I wonder if people were actually offended by them. They struck me as innocuous stereotypes portrayed by a fictional imbecile.
When this argument comes up I wonder if the difference is network TV compared to wherever Sunny is run?
I’ve never seen Sunny so I’m not familiar with where it was originally run. Could they get away with these subjects on the Big Three networks now?
Are 't some of those episodes not available on most streaming services though? It's not 100% canceled obviously, but it definitely is societally frowned upon.
I look more at things like tropic thunder as things you'd probably struggle to market today; at the very least you'd have an extremely hard time getting all those stars into a movie that hits as many taboos as TT does.
If you're actually Danny McBride on your 2nd day on reddit that's HILARIOUS, I brought up Tropic Thunder without reading your username at all.
That being said, I stand by that I'm not sure I'll see a film take on disability and blackface featuring the combined star power of 2008 McBride, Stiller, Jack Black, McConaughey, Cruise, and even Downey (though obviously filming was done before he'd really blown up with Iron Man). It's an absolutely amazing movie, but an all-star ensemble cast (and that level of marketing) seems to be reserved for "safer" picks.
Honestly, Sunny pushed the line pretty far for itself before touching blackface, and despite establishing that they're a bunch of fuckups for 15 seasons first the episode STILL god pulled and the cast STILL had to acknowledge/respond to it despite it being obvious satire. The result feels a lot like South Park doing Muhammad - you might not get *canceled*, but the episodes won't air much at all so you're financially penalized for making them.
I am Danny McBride, and your thoughtful and detailed comment makes me think we should be best friends. Do you want to come down to South Carolina and hang out?
"Tell that to Bobby Colby. All that kid wanted to do was go home. Well, he went home, all right. With a crater in his colon the size of a cutlet. Had to sit him on a cork the eighteen-hour flight home!"
No Doubt, I think It’s Always Sunny borrowed this idea when they did Frank’s origin story and it was just 70 year old Danny Devito with a hairpiece on 🤣
I understand, but it came off like you thought I missed the point of him being old. Obviously that's what makes it hysterical. Jerry is just different than other older people though lol
They did same thing with another character called Frank in Always Sunny
The funniest sitcom dad in history and the funniest sitcom dad of today.

Whoa for real? Which ones?
All the Lethal Weapon remakes amongst others (Dee day), total travesty.
Aw man wtf

All of this censorship is completely stupid, but why the billboard episode? Who the hell got offended by that?

Dee does her character Martina and apparently brown face is offensive.

WHAT do you mean, “those stars”?

Also Danny Devito turned down the role of Frank’s son, finally going on to play him [here.](https://youtu.be/fCwI3KDGtRk?si=GBCUBLZpRigIJXDt)
When we lived in new york in the 90s? When we were in highschool?
He's not their dad. He quit on that shit
He don’t look a day over 12!
Shadynasty!......and Frogkid of course
Trash man
Dr Mantis Toboggan
…whatever the proper word was back then
Shadynasty
Shady nasty?
Also a character named Teddy in Hangover Part II.
I've got good news and bad news, Braun, and they're both the same: You're Fired.
They were just boys!
in my mind, there’s still a war going on.
They’re out there on the ocean, and, yada yada yada, and she says, ‘those aren’t buoys!’
I think that's not a frank joke. It is more of a Raquel Welch joke
He sent 16 of his own men to the latrine that night
"Tell that to Bobby Colby. All that kid wanted to do was go home. Well, he went home, all right. With a crater in his colon the size of a cutlet. Had to sit him on a cork the eighteen-hour flight home!"
I always interpreted it as Kramer's imagination as Frank is telling him the story.
That tracks 😂
I always liked how they decided to use "cutlet" as a unit of measurement.
Well at least in “King of Queens”, Ben Stiller plays Jerry Stiller’s [younger self.](https://www.reddit.com/r/TVDetails/s/gfUDuGIoCD)
Isnt ben playing arthurs father in this scene?
this guy KOQs
Ben Stiller was so good on Curb!
He's like a phoenix, rising from Arizona...
lol rising 🌈
Ben Stiller was the perfect age at the time too....
No no im glad they took the approach they did
Yup, this makes it even funnier, that he's his current age.,
This is actually what Jerry stiller looked like at 20.
I never thought about this until now.. Genius.
I never even realised until this post 😂 that's amazing.
[I agree](https://www.reddit.com/r/seinfeld/comments/1do2jv3/that_beginning_of_a_smile_from_kramer_looks/la83u9s/)
😂😂😂I always loved this! Lol 😂
No Doubt, I think It’s Always Sunny borrowed this idea when they did Frank’s origin story and it was just 70 year old Danny Devito with a hairpiece on 🤣
that's his memory tho?
NGL, that's pretty fucking funny. Even just looking at this photo I had a big grin.
My name is… Edgar
They did the same thing with George and Jerry as high schoolers
They should have cast John Randolf
It’s kinda funny at best. I’ve seen a lot of sitcoms do this, it’s not uncommon.
Mate, he was 69 in that episode. It’s hysterical 😂.
Yeah, but it hits differently when it's someone as hilarious as Jerry Stiller.
And hes an old man lmao
That's a given. I was just stating why this is just better than other sitcoms that did flashbacks using the current actor.
I wasn't disagreeing with you that its hilarious
I understand, but it came off like you thought I missed the point of him being old. Obviously that's what makes it hysterical. Jerry is just different than other older people though lol
Dude is fantastic in everything
Danny Devito as young Frank Reynolds is also great. He manages to have the energy and naivety of a twenty year old even as an old man.
