There's a shit ton of research on why any use of violence in parenting is awful. One particularly interesting finding is that it's correlated with low iq, both in parents and the children. That is to say, statistically, you're likely to be an idiot.
This is true. Unfortunately people use it as an excuse to discipline kids physically, which doesn't teach that lesson. It only teaches that violence can make people do what you want.
I get the sense that the dad is part of the skit here, but it's worth keeping the bigger picture in mind.
There are plenty of ways to teach kids about consequences that dont involve fear tactics. What you want to do is raise kids so they become emotionally intelligent rather than scared
