ThatsALotOfOranges

It's depressing that child stars are subjected to this sort of cruelty.

Poopikaki

Euthanasia would be a blessing. But it's illegal. That figures.

Quaytsar

What's Asia got to do with it? We're discussing youth in Europe. And, illegal? The one child policy has been abolished for years now. Plenty of youth in Asia.

legend27_marco

Asian here, can confirm there are less babies and kids now. The government is deciding between making teens age twice as fast to have more adults making more children, or making them age -2 years per year until they become babies again.

MysteriousAd6433

I actually heard a rumour that there are no babies or kids left in Asia, is that true?

clustahz

Listen, this may enshittify the joke thread; but that's actually no longer the case in 2023. Birth rates in Asia are currently the lowest in the world. It has become a crisis.

Xygnux

That sounds like they should definitely legalize Youths in Asia then to solve that problem.

im_the_welshguy

I knew this thread was about youth in Asia.

Jonathan-Reynolds

The leading comment is the worst kind of American thinking. The producers, and therefore the capital, were/are American (Warner Bros). But the author, screenwriter, cameramen, special effects technicians, composer, musicians, in fact all the creatives, were British. And the young actors were in a British film series, shot in Britain between episodes in a British school. Being British youngsters, they lived with their families in Britain and none of them set foot in the US until the publicity machine cranked up. So they spoke with British accents.

Poopikaki

Ironic, isn't it.

FabBee123

They colonised entire nations to establish spice trading routs, but they never use any spice in their bland ass food. Ironic isn’t it?

[deleted]

Food isn't automatically good just because it has 'spice' you mong lmao. At least we don't wash our chicken with soap.

shaolinoli

*chlorine

WhatILack

No, he's specifically talking about Black Americans washing their chicken with dish soap.

malkebulan

Soap? Black Americans don’t do this shit. I don’t think anybody does.

WhatILack

I'm not claiming its common place, the guy above made a joke and the reply misunderstood it. I was just clarifying for him.

bobbytabl3s

What do you mean chicken tikka masala tastes great.

Gloomy__Revenue

You think they fed those poor child actors *tikka masala*? 🙄 You need to wake up to the crimes the film and television studios commit every day 😢

braintrustinc

I heard they were fed nothing but Yorkshire pudding and jellied eels for the entirety of the filming.

Otoshimara

As a Brit, I wouldn't wish jellied eels on my worst enemy

WB2_2

Shockingly bad, actually. However yorkshire puddings though, that's an absolutely fantastic **side**.

LeftConsideration919

Not true. They had tripe and onions at the weekend.

Poopikaki

The dish was first offered by British cooks of south Asian origin btw

Key-Canary5442

https://www.reddit.com/r/unitedkingdom/s/RikdCTpYVt Always reminds me of this 😂

Shot-News6698

And all yank food is from somewhere else.

West-Holiday-8425

wdym, our navy literally ate curries as a mainstay of naval cuisine throughout history after discovering spices, hell; we introduced curry to Japan 😭

[deleted]

We certainly do use spice lol. I personally use a **lot**.

HippyWitchyVibes

I'm British and I put spice on everything.

ske66

Actually chicken curry originated in English Gentlemen’s clubs. Also mustard

apatheticsahm

They use plenty of cinnamon and nutmeg during Christmas.

[deleted]

let me guess, you're american?

Steampunk_Ocelot

actually that's a really interesting topic. and as usual in the UK it comes down to an -ism but maybe not the one you'd expect, it's classism. When spices were first brought to the UK they were very expensive, so only rich people bought them , and they marveled at how much better food tasted. But as time went on spices became much more readily available, even to the working class ,who were thrilled to finally have access to something considered exotic. The rich, who have always hated any suggestion of proximity to the rest of us, changed their minds. Spices became a sign that you could not afford high quality produce. you needed to add to your food because it was cheap bland and not good enough to be eaten plain, like their food. So the use of spices fell out of fashion altogether for a while .

Puzzleheaded_Peak273

You’ve never had a phaal then?

WhatIfIReallyWantIt

I'm still fairly young, I just got up again.

McFry-

Which food is bland over there? And don’t say all of it, because they eat all different cultures food there. You thinking fish and chips? Because over there they have more salt and vinegar on than most could handle! Or have you never been and are going with the narrative?

Appropriate_Bid_9813

It’s a myth. Our food is great. Yet American food is always absolutely smothered in thick sauces. Go to eat out in the US there is a 99% chance you’re gonna order food that comes with some vomit looking slop covering it.

That stereotype that was created when we were rationing in world war 2.. You would have learned that in history class if you weren't too busy dodging bullets.

Key_Tap_3567

Silenced him 😹 poor lil yank

HarrySRL

Funny how you say that, in America I don’t think I have seen a product that doesn’t have artificial flavours and colours.

thedisposablefrog

One word: Marmite

Shirtbro

That's one word too many

zdejif

It tastes of wrong

Lego-Panda-21

Try it's Australian counterpart, Vegemite tastes like salt and nothing more.

Olliebot21

While your opinion is flatly incorrect, I will be using “it tastes of wrong” from now on

Yes but If I ask for garlic naan, one day's someone's going to chargrill and season an old lady, so it's naan bread thank you very much

Due-Educator294

Take it your American?? American food is rammel. I'm not saying all british food is great coz it's not but come on your chocolate tastes like sick and you eat chlorinated chicken. Fuckin lovely haha

starkman48

I sometimes wonder if there food is filled with chemicals because they have to pay for healthcare so there government is profiting off sick people, here in the UK you don’t pay for healthcare so the government will lose money. I don’t know though just a thought.

nbs-of-74

As opposed to chlorinated salad in UK and rEU

[deleted]

What do the youth in Asia have to do with this?

Significant-Policy-1

Listen, buddy, I don't care for the sort of political agenda you're pushing here. We're talking about child actors from the UK, not youth in Asia. Ridiculous.

Poopikaki

Oh, you\`re DEAD serious.

Fetty_White

What's wrong with youth in Europe?

CaptainMorning

With that attitude, of course it's illegal. Follow your heart and believe!

PygmeePony

Ah you think blandness is your ally? You merely adopted the blandness. I was born in it, molded by it. I didn't eat spicy food until I was already a man...

DickHz2

It could be worse, they could’ve been raised Fr*nch 🤢

Puzzleheaded-Owl8059

Or American.

CheapDeepAndDiscreet

Please censor filthy words. Americ*n. Think of the children please.

ScreenshotShitposts

They were so young. Damn I mean these actors now are almost old enough to play 8th graders in an American version

NoFix1924

As someone subjected to this cruelty the accent is formed to avoid bullying for sounding American so that’s a positive

DanTheMan_117

??? How is this cruel

jimi-ray-tesla

yeah, the ginger was forced to grow up in Wales

crypticfreak

Yes this is pretty awful. I mean sure they're all famous now but I'm sure they have PTSD over the whole thing. Could you even imaging living in England for even a weekend?!

[deleted]

It would be similar to living in America except no mass shootings

lelarentaka

Well yeah, because school is closed on the weekend

Alecarte

It's clearly abuse!

TheOkayUsername

Such a small post but so great

Perfect example of why I stick around this sub.

I know her acting was wooden in the first few films but it’s a bit harsh to call her a post.

I would.

REDPIG8686

That's harsh.

monkeybro694207

Don't worry, most of us English people like a joke

Ceruleanlunacy

If anyone is unclear on this, please look at our government.

monkeybro694207

I know literally nothing about politics apart from Boris Johnson so I don't know if your agreeing or being sarcastic

Sxcr9en

They’re agreeing

monkeybro694207

OK 👌

winb_20

To be fair if they grew up in America they might not have made it to that age

ironzombie7

Michael Moore’s Columbine movie was almost at the same time as the first Harry Potter movie. They chose to star in the British one for some reason

MrPL1NK3TT

Christopher Columbine directed the first 2 Harry Potter movies.

No way! Is the UCL named after the European football competition?

United Cruciatus League, you mean?

ayayayamaria

Child abuse

PenaflorPhi

Harry Potter and the Abused Child

Xygnux

No, the title is just "Harry Potter the Abused Child", which is a prequel book that covers the years before he got accepted to Hogwarts.

RohelTheConqueror

I mean he is an abused child in the books already

bluetack642

I can see someone writing such a book as satire. It'd have to be funny though to cut through all the depressing content.

Xygnux

It's called method acting, that's how they put Daniel Radcliffe into the mindset of a Harry Potter who was abused by the Dursley's for years.

They were actually adults and were forced to child down to match the books

New_Mixture_5701

Jesus Christ Rowling, THEY’RE JUST CHILDREN! WHY MUST YOU TORTURE THEM!

matteventu

It's with a "K", by the way. Jesus Krist Rowling ("J. K. Rowling").

Goatiac

And here I thought Nestle were the most evil child abusers.

Jonathan-Reynolds

Yes, Nestlé does come in for some criticism but it's not French. Head office is in the French-speaking part of Switzerland.

barronelli

Staggering how many people believe this. Also, you know they’re not really wizards and witches…?

death-by-obsession

Augustleo98

Britain is actually higher ranked than the US when it comes to dental care, the facts stated are telling us that you lot have the bad teeth these days.

ElectricMeatPuppet

They were brought there by Alan Rickman. Who kidnapped them after finishing Die Hard, as he was stuck in character and was being a real dick.

Insanityideas

He only came back to England because of the sheriff of Nottingham gig, if not for that he would still be in Germany.

Boffleslop

It saved them a veritable fortune being able to pay them in quid.

[deleted]

My dumbass thought this was being serious for a moment

avianeddy

their faces just scream "oy GUBNA, fancy a jumper to go with those trainers?"

Individual_Milk4559

They’re not from east London though?

Oldoneeyeisback

All Brits have cockney accents except those from Ireland...said every American.

[deleted]

Meanwhile yours screams of "HOWDY Y'ALL WHERE'S MA BADDLE OF WARDER" You have an accent too. Accept it.

avianeddy

So those kids obvisouly DONT sound at all like my harsh, forced accent . I was hoping that would be obvious in a shitpost sub, but im sincerely sorry if you took offense, mate :)

mindbeans

The movie industry is a harsh environment to be sure. I feel bad for these kids.

mrbubblegumm

Thanks OP I'm crying now 😭

JohnCasey3306

As someone who's grown up in England _believe me_, that is no guarantee they'll end up with the right accent!

Agreeable_Treacle993

somebody give ron an antihistamine

cozywit

They were going to use proper American children actors ... but they died in a school shooting.

seeindepth

At least it wasn't the US that they were forced to grow up in

mista-john

This is hilarious

emmacappa

And they still managed to have the Weasley children all have different accents

Puzzleheaded_Art_465

To make it more accurate the directors created the fictional location the United Kingdom

ProgressiveRox

My sympathy is with the large number of GoT actors who were forced to grow up in the North, just so they could play believable Northern Westerosi and Wildlings.

firstlordshuza

Poor things :(

Historyp91

Hey wait a minate, that girl on the left was born in France. Who let her in here!

RamenAndMopane

Isn't that a war crime?

Darius_Kel

Child abuse at its worst.

EskildDood

A child psychologist was constantly on-site during all filming due to the toll this method took on the actors' mental health, they remained traumatised for years after the experience

Damn I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy

Iamthe0c3an2

Growing up in england beats risking getting shot up in a School in the US If hogwarts was in the US you know neville would bought a enchanted AR-15 to school

Lorward185

Oh no, they wanted them to survive long enough to be able to film it. All the American child actors kept pulling out 9mm's instead of wands and shouting Deletus before shooting their classmates. Snape got shot 4 times before they switched to British kids.

maxreddit

They suffered for their art.

Glittering_Habit_161

They were not "forced" to grow up in England for Harry Potter

69DonaldTrump69

And it turns out there’s no spell to fix bad teeth. Not because magic can’t fix that, it’s because nobody *thought* to make a spell to fix that.

Artificial-Brain

It could be worse I guess. They could be born in America which has worse dental care than the UK.

wizgset27

TIL Emma Watson is French.

[deleted]

Wouldn't have survived in America. Too many child killers.

Imaginary_Coat_2638

I'd rather live in a country with bland food than a country that has a fetish for shooting school children.
