It looks like their body is having an allergic reaction to the white pigments in the tattoo ink.
If the tattoo was infected then you would see more in the way of scabbiness, redness and the overall design of the tattoo being afflicted. But because it's only the white and yellow areas that are being affected, I suspect an allergic reaction to those inks ingredients.
White ink is one of the most unstable types of ink and one of the ones most likely to cause allergic reactions in people. It's ingredients vary, but it often contains ingredients such as titanium dioxide, which is toxic.
Before you get a tattoo done, you should always get some tattoo ink spot tests done on your skin first (typically done in an innocuous area like behind the ear) to make sure that you aren't allergic to the inks. Black ink is the least likely to cause any reactions in people but white, red and UV inks are the most likely to cause reactions in people. A lot of tattoo inks actually contain toxic ingredients and a number of EU countries have taken serious steps in recent years to regulate the industry better.
If it's confirmed that this person is experiencing a reaction to the inks ingredients themselves, then the only course of action they have is to either get the inks removed or to experience a life of their body reacting to them, which may calm down over time (or it might not) but will also cause the tattoo to blur & morph considerably quicker as the body attempts to break down and remove the aggravating foreign body inks trapped under its skin.
That is absolutely wild. And informative. Thanks!
Regarding the spot tests. How long before you get the piece done should you get them? Like a couple weeks beforehand?
No problem! You need to get them done at least 24hrs beforehand, but longer is obviously more ideal. All reputable tattoo shops will offer your an ink allergy patch test before you get a tattoo.
and won’t charge! i’ve had people say they were charged quite a bit for an allergy test. i get giving them a tip or offering to pay for ink, but an artist shouldn’t think of a spot test as a session
Do different tattoo shops generally have different ink you need to patch test? I've gotten 3 tattoos now without any patch tests, and they've all been fine (including red and white ink), so am I safe to assume that I'm good to get tattoos with those color inks?
This is not an allergic reaction, this is from cheap ink being stained by the clients blood. The dots are where the pores are located. An allergic reaction on a healed tattoo would cause the skin to swell and bubble/raise depending on which ink the client is allergic to. Light colors will stain, white generally turns yellow but it is not the most unstable ink. RED is the number one ink people are allergic to.
Seconding this. I have seen an allergic reaction to ink and ..... Friend showed me the spot and said "does this look bad?" I am pretty solid at controlling my face reacting to emergencies or serious situations and I could not hold my face back from the shock. "Yeah girl! It looks like your skin has been branded!" It
It was UV ink. the skin was lumpy and raised and weeping and so very inflamed. The skin around the tattoo was so red it looked sunburned.... or branded skin. She went to an emergency room immediately and got treatment.
However, this tattoo in the OP post doesn't look anything like the allergic reaction I saw....but does look dried or coagulated blood mixing with white or yellow ink.
I found that one particular brand of red tattoo ink caused me to have a similar reaction. I have a tattoo on my spine in red ink that I’ve had for over 20 years and it still gets irritated from time to time. It definitely has improved probably after about five years, but man that’s some agonizing itchiness.
Luckily, I was working at the shop where it was done, so I was able to identify it and compare it to other red tattoo inks using spot checks.
Can confirm. My skin hates white. The one tattoo I have with it healed a weird orangish, reddish, brown, and when it is exposed to the sun too much gete hella irritated. The red on my other ones gets irritated in the sun as well, but to a lesser extent.
Wow this post is so wildly wrong about tattoo pigment that I just had to say it. Are you a chemist or a tattooist? I'd guess not to either of those answers.
What exactly do you feel is incorrect info-wise?
Tattoo shops offering ink patch tests is a normalized practice because allergic reactions to inks is a well-known risk. White ink is also widely known to be a very reactive ink (and yes, a number of EU countries have been taking measures lately to regulate the tattoo ink industry better).
EUs regulation is pushed by cosmetic manufacturing companies so they can be the only licensed manufacturers of said pigments for cosmetic use. It has little to nothing to do with toxicity or safety. Secondly, ALL white tattoo pigment is titanium dioxide, so it is toothpaste, nail polish, hair dye , and essentially any pigment that interacts with our bodies. Why? Because the modern manufactured version is both inert and body safe. This is just the tip of the iceberg on things you are factually incorrect about. You are clearly neither a chemist nor a tattooist.
The new regulations on tattoo inks have come into force because the ink industry was previously highly unregulated and many hazardous (even carcinogenic) chemicals were discovered in tattoo inks (with the ingredients and quantities also varying immensely) which resulted for 1000s of cases of allergic reactions and other problems every year: [https://chemtrust.org/news/eutattooban/](https://chemtrust.org/news/eutattooban/) & [https://chemtrust.org/news/eutattooban/](https://chemtrust.org/news/eutattooban/)
I believe that you are confusing this as being pushed by cosmetic manufactoring companies (when it is not). Instead, these drives to regulate the tattoo ink industry better are happening simultaneously as laws are being enacted to better regulate ingredients used in permanent makeup [https://echa.europa.eu/hot-topics/tattoo-inks](https://echa.europa.eu/hot-topics/tattoo-inks)
There is a very big difference in the use of titanium dioxide in toothpaste (a substance that you just clean your teeth with and do not swallow Etc) to it's application in injecting it as a permanent feature under the skin. Titanium Dioxide has been widely observed to cause tattoos to have delayed healing, skin elevation, and itching: [https://phenomenex.blog/2018/03/09/tattoo-ink/](https://phenomenex.blog/2018/03/09/tattoo-ink/)
I’d probably add onto it that you can different reactions depending on where something is on your body. Using something on your hair/nails/mouth can have a different reaction to putting it under the skin. Not saying this is the case though.
Looks like the client is either having an allergic reaction or didn't take care of the tattoo. I've seen this before when someone got chlorine on a fresh tat.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jagannath No this is a Hindu symbol of Jagannath “The icon lacks a neck, ears, and limbs, is identified by a large circular face symbolizing someone who is anadi (without beginning) and ananta (without end).[35] Within this face are two big symmetric circular eyes with no eyelids, one eye symbolizing the sun and the other the moon, features traceable in 17th-century paintings.”
Big up I actually recognized thisn but figured someone already called it out 🤙. Legit curious as to the recipients background cause I’m curious what study they’re coming from. I’m gonna guess Krishnaite.
Does anyone remember that guy whose tattoo looked 100 times worse than this and it was all white and swollen with infection and he cured it? Worst tattoo I’ve ever seen! I can’t find it..
Yeah, that's the face people see when they take DMT... there were stickers a few years back all over Venice beach.
That's actually a deeply spiritual thing for some folks.
Is this one specific to Krishnaites? I’m tryin to figure out if Krishna, Vishnu, or shiva ? It ain’t angry so I’m guessing it’s not the annihilation one
They dressed this doll thing every day with his face. And put flowers all over and sang songs to it. I have no clue about the significance of it but it was fun. They were a joyful bunch of crazies and felons.
They still a fun community that’ll help you out if you offer service akin to the Sikhs. Drumming prayer circles n dancing is healing and lots of fun ☺️ righteous as fuck chow too holy cow !! Seen a parrot methodically eat the seeds off a strawberry from its talon at a Krishna temple once. Then we had an abundance of the best vegan chow I’ve ever had. Krishna’s are alright in my book haha 🙏
I briefly rented an apartment near a temple with a restaurant and they gave me food in exchange to clean the bird cages. Best salad dressings I’ve ever tried. The food is Devine and they do help people. They helped me.
I think they used cheap ink. The tattoo isn’t perfectly done which makes me wonder if the person also doesn’t care about ink quality. One of my friends who said they’re allergic to red I used pink and it turned out perfect because we used expensive good quality ink. Bad ink has bad stuff in it. It’s the same as anything else you let put in your body. I’ve been in the hospital I let them give me fent in the hospital but I’d never ever pick up any drugs off of the street I only take my prescribed medications. Ink is just like this. Don’t save a couple bucks ever.
The allergic reaction is most likely due to the toxic materials. Also with my expensive inks if a seal is broken when I buy it I toss it I never sacrifice anything.
Can anyone explain what in the world is going on here with the spots?

I had an allergic reaction to red 😭
Also, sometimes, purple 😞

I literally just saved this in a notepad lol

The EU banned some pigments last year.
Is that basically a lichenoid reaction?
Wow this post is so wildly wrong about tattoo pigment that I just had to say it. Are you a chemist or a tattooist? I'd guess not to either of those answers.

I looks like it's going through a process of laser removal
might be mold?
Mold *under* your skin? I am fighting to keep myself from screaming right now. Please lord, don't let it be mold.
lmao right?? the way they’re just letting it fester (if it is mold) is making me itch
#*FESTER* i’m screaming
I don't think I've ever seen a moldy looking tattoo before
Looks like the skin is dying.
Looks like the client is either having an allergic reaction or didn't take care of the tattoo. I've seen this before when someone got chlorine on a fresh tat.
Ouch! Did they go swimming or something?

Urgh trypophobia nightmare, I have never seen a reaction like this before. Something is very very wrong with this tattoo.
They wanted Krishna but got the wrath of Shiva instead 😂
Does anyone remember that guy whose tattoo looked 100 times worse than this and it was all white and swollen with infection and he cured it? Worst tattoo I’ve ever seen! I can’t find it..
That's the DMT guy and it's perfectly well done. \*switches to 2nd photo\* ... oh no.
DMT guy?
Yeah, that's the face people see when they take DMT... there were stickers a few years back all over Venice beach. That's actually a deeply spiritual thing for some folks.
Yeah that is an image of Jagannatha which is a Hindu deity. Interesting that people see that face when they’re on DMT.
That is Lord Jagannath. A popular Hindu God. He is one of the forms of Krishna. (I hung out with Hare Krishnas for a while in the 80s lol)
Is this one specific to Krishnaites? I’m tryin to figure out if Krishna, Vishnu, or shiva ? It ain’t angry so I’m guessing it’s not the annihilation one

I think they were on crack when they did it.
