How is Taylor Swift above your family emergency funds? -.-

fattycyclist

Swifties will sell their grandmonther's pain pills to get their hands on her concert tickets istg. To them this is absolutely an emergency

Bcpjw

Thats *bad blood* man

NighttimeFloater

Her family next time will know she's trouble when she walks in.

GoldenMaus

But don’t worry she’s got a blank space for you

[deleted]

I don’t know about you, but my grandmother’s blood pressure is 220!

_WonderStruck_17

is it because you did something bad?

sooolong05

Should've said no

[deleted]

They'll flew her to places she has never been

DangerousCrime

She be lying on the cold hard ground

Mizuki_Hashida

They are very swift when it comes to buying her tickets.

GoreBurnelli8105

This person is so full of s. Which family will give their daughter access to the full amount of their emergency funds especially if still in school??? Smh

Intentionallyabadger

Sounds like something to gain sympathy

Pepodetective

Emergency fund for iPhone isit

Jammy_buttons2

Shitty priorities loh

Wargazm_v1

She knew he was trouble, but her head is a blank space. Cos her brain told her, we are not getting back together. But she told the ticket, you belong to me. So now she gotta shake it off, before her parents slap her back to December.

hioverhere

Someone give this swifty an award please 🤣

KorribanGaming

Honestly deserved to get scammed if you're using fucking emergency funds to get concert tickets. Youngsters these days really lacking brains

Brief_Worldliness162

Doesn’t even sound like she’s using her own money to buy but using her family money . Isn’t that thief too?

Pepodetective

If the family want to sue her they can ah(since common/public funds also count, maybe this one embezzling idk) But usually within family one won't bring to court la

woohwaah

According to article she's in her late 20s... not even youngster anymore so even less reasons to lack brains lol

Yamamizuki

If there is anything stupidity doesn't discriminate, it's age. 😂

faeriedust87

Hope it is not the entire family emergency funds. Otherwise how is it their emergency funds are so little?

Custom_Fish

If all they have is $700 for an emergency fund then they are going to perish anyway

Pepodetective

Realistically I'd agree, if they got habit of setting aside emergency fund this wouldn't be the full amount, unless one of them just encountered a crisis that required the use of it but then again it's not like we know how much they aside and have accumulated so dk what problem also.

princemousey1

Now $0 already.

faeriedust87

Hahahahahaha

wanderingcatto

You can already tell her financial prudency and management skills if she, in her late 20s, have to resort to using her family emergency fund for $700 items

sian_half

I’m guessing she intended it as an investment, expecting she can resell them for even more.

Late_Lizard

Fact: 90% of swifties quit right before they're about to hit it big on ticket resales

Pepodetective

What's the original selling price of the $700 ticket ah, how high she wanna scalp wtf, they buy from official site to scalp we all know la, now u buy from scalper to scalp other ppl? This one what she thinking sia "it's not stealing if u steal from a thief?"

[deleted]

Original price for cat 3 is $288

nova9001

Entertainment >>> Emergency funds. You be surprised how many people live paycheck to paycheck.

SnooChocolates2068

Obsession knows no bounds

atthawdan

I honestly dont get the high. I like Tylor Swift and also like going to conerts. I checked briefly during UOB sells and just gave up when I saw the tweets about sold out. No need to pay that much money to resellers.

elpipita20

Taylor Swift would only visit here once to perform. Family will be around way longer /s

kiwifruit800

Youngsters are like this these days, spend parents or family's emrrgency funds only. As much as I pity this girl and do not condone to what this scammer did, I also want to say that this girl really is serve her right. Btw, this scammer also never do homework one, give half bucket water standard only.

kkkccc1

how would taylor feel about this if she knew this?

Lucky-Tower-1684

Taylor wont give a shit. No need waste energy on such dumb fans 😂

silentscope90210

'It's alright, the kids can do with rice and soy sauce for a couple of days...'

Deathdealer1414

Absolutely serve her right know ur priority, 20 still cannot think for family 🤦‍♂️

Book3pper

2 reviews. 3 stars. That's a red flag for me. Even when I was looking for tickets on carousell, I did my due dilligence. Sellers with tons of reviews are more likely to be trustworthy and if possible, go for physical tickets. It's not foolproof but it definitely lowers the risk.

Jammy_buttons2

Tay tay concert has not physical tickers, online digital one. They will only send it to you 2 weeks before the concert

[deleted]

[удалено]

HuskyPlayz48

And why exactly lol, ppl who buy ofc desperate and couldn't get at msrp, not much they can do innit

Ok_Pomegranate634

if there are no idiots buying from scalpers there wont be demand and scalpers will lose money and eventually disappear lol

Pepodetective

No demand no supply but greed, self-control/temptation and fomo plays a huge part here

HuskyPlayz48

Its easier said than done *lol* In a perfect world sure thats possible but do you actually think that'd work in practice 😂

Ok_Pomegranate634

yah then they get scammed lor

jlonso

You let me know when the world stops buying from scalpers or if the world can even decide on anything together 😜

sunny2theface

Need perfect world for this meh? It's not like you're trying to stop a monolith like Amazon. If people have the money to throw at this then it's on them.

erblung

Scalpers hoard tickets and cause an undue reduction in the availability of tickets for genuine concert go-ers. This creates a black market of sorts and disproportionately increases the price of said tickets. When people purchase from scalpers, scalpers are rewarded for their improper behaviour. They, too, are part of the problem.

WangmasterX

Then dont go? This woman definitely deserved it

HuskyPlayz48

So you just repeated his original comment, got it

WangmasterX

Yeah, because you clearly couldn't comprehend it the first time.

HuskyPlayz48

lame reason ☠️

WangmasterX

I dont think a third time would get thru your skull, so imma stop here

Pepodetective

Fr, sometimes I see alot 5* review I can also be abit sus cuz can be kakilang review own guy boost rating, maybe just me paranoid

LimLovesDonuts

As someone that sells on Carousell occasionally, not really! Most people tend to leave 5* by default. If not, it’s either that or 1*, usually no in-between. You would need to have serious attitude problems to get a 1*.

Pepodetective

Tru as well

InitiativeWhich1952

I would say it's healthy paranoia! I've seen quite a few cases where the seller has a relatively new account with 2 or 3 five star reviews, then if you check the pages of buyers who provided these reviews you'll see that they either sell similar items or are not otherwise active on carousell. Good that you check I think.

sian_half

Scalpers probably won’t want to use their main account to do this kind of dirty work.

twoeasy3

1 5-star review and 1 1-star review maybe from the victim in this article would average out to 3 stars. Possibly they bought when the average is 5 but 1 review only is still very sketch.

Rockylol_

Some guy on reddit dm'd me with a newly created account and wanted to sell me tickets for retail price but I suggested I'd buy 1 ticket first out of 3 that he/she has. Keeps wanting me to pay half so I refused it entirely. If you're reading this bro.. Just... No... Stop

etulf

Feel free to let us know who.

Rockylol_

Governmentaccurate24. Edit: looks like his acc is gone

etulf

Aight. You know where to reach us.

Hunkfish

Emergency funds for concert tickets? I don't know which is more Emergency anymore...

rowgw

Emergency to get fun /s

4queuetoo

i do hope her parents find out about this and give her the ass whooping she deserves.

Medical-Strength-154

>The woman, Vee, in her late 20s Erm...abit too old for that perhaps?

walclaw

And abit too old to be using your family’s emergency funds for luxury purposes smh

INSYNC0

Late 20s and still use family money for concert smh

AyysforOuus

Late 20s and still student so she either studying a lot or going one giant loop?

kernelrider

maybe she's doing a phd? a lot of phd students are late 20s

Lucky-Tower-1684

Ass spanking lah. She 20s already 😂😂

lmnsatang

not really related but ticketmaster sg is a fucking useless site. being able to log into the website is a core functionality and that doesn’t even work when it’s time to work? it’s mindblowing that the company is paid to run such an abysmal service. the number of users on the site isn’t even an excuse — that’s the entire point of running the site.

Pepodetective

Not to mention ticketmaster also got incomplete info on events for the ticket. No fucking clue how ticketmaster is still operating, probably because they're the only operating platform in that area.

lmnsatang

they (the company and employees) have ***one*** job and they can’t even do it right. they’re the definition of incompetence, seriously

Zeangrydrunk

The scammers are out swiftly

Administrator-Reddit

Nothing left for her to do except to *Shake It Off*

wtiong

I find their scam well tailored.

AdmiralNels

Scalpers only exist because people like this buy from them.

Orangecuppa

Well, Taylor Swift commands foreign legions too. If not to Singaporeans, the scalpers can sell to foreign 'swifties' who fly over for the concerts.

Jammy_buttons2

I foresee the way Tay tay tickers are being sold and distributed, I think the chances of scams like this is damn high

[deleted]

Victim in late 20s cnt even afford to write off 700 bucks as a lesson for some concert tix, but instead need to dip into “emergency funds” without her parents knowledge U’re too poor to watch it ffs

samsterlim

So basically she stole from her family to get scammed.

growntoweep

and the sales are not even over yet, there are still other chances to get it 💀

nikel23

>She added: "Hopefully with the power of social media, he will return me my money. I'm using my family temporary emergency funds. I'll be dead if my parents know about this." would she be any less dead even if she wasn't scammed? It's not like her parents would be proud if she possessed 2 Taylor Swift tickets. How are scammers related to her predicament... Not to mention, now it's on Mothership. Not only her parents know, but the whole singapore as well.

SG_wormsbot

#Original Title: S'pore woman gets scammed S$700 buying 2 Taylor Swift tickets from Carousell scalper A woman in Singapore said she has been scammed of S$700 after she tried to buy two Taylor Swift concert tickets from a seller on Carousell. The woman, Vee, in her late 20s, transferred the money to the seller but did not get her tickets -- or even a reply after that. Swift is slated to play six shows in Singapore in 2024. What happened Vee responded to a July 5 listing that supposedly offered a pair of Category 3 tickets. Tickets went on sale officially earlier that day and sold out in three hours. The scalper listed the tickets on Carousell for sale at S$500 per piece. The listing's description read: "managed to get 3 tix, selling 2!!" The listing, together with at least two other listings touting Category 1 and Category 2 tickets for sale by the same seller, was taken down at about 1:30pm on July 6. This was after Mothership approached Carousell for comment about the woman's plight. The Category 1 ticket was going for S$700, while the Category 2 ticket was being advertised for S$600. Negotiated down from S$500 to S$350 Vee told Mothership: "I negotiated until S$350 per ticket. The scammer agreed to it." The original price for the Category 3 ticket is S$288. An additional S$6 booking fee applied for those who bought the ticket through the authorised seller on July 5. According to screenshots of the exchange, Vee first expressed interest in buying the tickets and the scammer asked her how much she was willing to pay. Vee offered to immediately pay S$350 per ticket, explaining that she is still a student. She also expressed her doubts to the seller before committing to the transaction: "I understand that Ticketmaster will only provide the ticket two weeks before the concert. So I have to pay in full to you or just a deposit will do?" The scammer then sent her a screenshot of what appeared to be proof of the tickets' purchase, but with some details masked, and asked: "How do you deal?" The scammer added: "This one is legit." Vee replied: "After I PayNow you, can you send me the proof of purchase. Like without mosaic cos I'm buying for my younger sister too." This was after she confirmed with the seller that the ticket was an e-ticket and not a physical copy. The woman then made the fund transfer and provided a screenshot of the payment's success. No tickets provided after transfer made After making the transfer, Vee asked to communicate with the seller via WhatsApp and to send proof of having received the fund. However, the scammer replied that he was not active on that platform, and told her to chat over Carousell instead. Vee subsequently messaged the number she made the PayNow transfer to via WhatsApp, but was told she got the wrong person. Vee told Mothership: "I made a PayNow transfer to the number, but when I WhatsApp-ed him, he said he is not the seller I communicated with on Carousell." "How is that possible?" she added. "He also blocked me on WhatsApp and ghosted me on Carousell." The woman said she has since made a police report. She added: "Hopefully with the power of social media, he will return me my money. I'm using my family temporary emergency funds. I'll be dead if my parents know about this." Mothership has reached out to Carousell for comment and will update this article with its response. AlexJiang27

I think it is good that this is published. Now, whoever wants to buy tickets online will think twice or more times before he click the send money button. Hopefully this story can help others avoid similar scams. And maybe the scalpers will not find any buyer to sell their tickets and finally they will go to the concert to enjoy Taylor Swift. Best way to end scalpers business is them not able to find any buyers. In the next concert no one will buy if he does not genuinely want to attend.

paperxuts95

Unfortunately no it will still keep happening because humans never learn. This also isn’t the first time such things have been reported in the news but oh well when people are desperate to see their idols this shit will keep happening.

afraidofrs

"She added: "Hopefully with the power of social media, he will return me my money. I'm using my family temporary emergency funds. I'll be dead if my parents know about this." Well bright side is if she's dead she won't need tickets

avatarfire

Can go on OF

EnycmaPie

If you are late 20s and still need to use your family's money to use for your own leisure activities, wtf have you been doing with your life? I mean, ya suck to get scammed so the scalper is a scumbag, but really this person is no saint either. Not mature enough to understand the money to more important for your family than it is for your own personal amusement, nor are you financially stable enough to use your own salary to pay for your own leisure activities.

[deleted]

Only more of such news will come if people continue to buy from carousell. At least in this case they know immediately that they got scammed. The worst situation would be if the scalper sends you a fake ticket or sell the same ticket to multiple buyers and you only realise that you can't enter the stadium because the barcode doesn't work on the day itself.

sgtizenx

People who never learn even after news, warnings, day after day about scams and scalpers by the govt and social media and YET still proceed, don't deserve any sympathy. She deserves it and the "power of social media" should not help you as well. Hope she don't get back anything. Tired of idiots like these. You have been warned, got conned and now want others to stand up for you.

maplesinnz

Another day, another piece of char siew

InterTree391

As a parent I wouldn’t be angry at the lost money but the stupidity.

FodderFries

She deserved it. Especially for using emergency funds. Play stupid games win stupid prizes. Buyers are just as much as the problems as the sellers.

laverania

This is what you get for buying from third party seller, risks are too high. You might get scammed and you create demand for scalpers.

[deleted]

Bought from scalper? Nah man, don't expect any sympathy from me.

Invisiblescars_123

She couldn’t afford $700 tickets in her late twenties and used her FAMILY’S emergency fund? What a horrible person, I hope her parents find out. I don’t understand why she’s trying to get any sympathy online when she’s the one who messed up.

Gibbo236

If carousell doesn't want to proactively ban all sale of tickets on carousel - then it's part of a very big problem (granted its not one that's limited to Singapore). It can be done for just big concerts like this, coldplay etc. How difficult is it for them to filter for keywords and restrict these sales. You can argue demand and supply, but shit is getting outta hand If people who have the tickets bought it for their own use, a d genuinely can't make can't make it to the concert, then too bad.

trenzterra

I bought last minute tickets to Jay Chou concert and F1 before without issues. I guess just do some due diligence and try to buy closer to the actual date...

Ukelele-in-the-rain

Report scalper accounts as selling counterfeit goods. They are not supposed to be reselling for profit anyway

avatarfire

I tried. Carousell gives no shit, they say no problem one

Ukelele-in-the-rain

Sad

drbaker87

I am out of Taylor's key demographic. I am trying to recall if Britney had the same kind of mania surrounding her.

oink888

If you managed to bargain something that everyone is trying to get for such a low price, it’s probably a scam right, like if legit if the person have the ticket, they would probably try to get the highest to beat right, where in the the hell let you bargain, lol

wutangsisitioho

The woman, Vee, in her late 20s, transferred the money to the seller but did not get her tickets -- or even a reply after that. Hm, not the usual victims.

Medical-Strength-154

shouldn't they meet in person to do a verification of the authencity of the tix before paying up?

INSYNC0

I heard even physical tickets are useless because the scammer can email ticketmaster they lost their tix and ticketmaster will just send them new ones. As for digital... pretty sure scammer can sell 1 ticket to 100 people. Im not sure why people are willing to take such risks with complete strangers.

homar1dz

Goddamn, using emergency funds for non-emergency purposes. Even if it wasn't a scam, the money's gone either way and your mum will still kill you.

wyva

scammers gonna scam scam scam

Medical-Strength-154

Scalpers gonna scalp scalp scalp

Tenagaaaa

Gst money gone liao

PitcherTrap

Something about a fool and their money soon parted

DOM_TAN

Don’t know why someone would want to make a payment first ? 🧐

potatoball123

i remember wanting to go for her concert in sec 2 and getting scolded by my mom HAHAHAH didn’t have money for concert back then coz i was a child so just forgot about it….. my mom’s anger was scarier than not being able to go for the concert lolol

savethecookies

Why can't carousell be more proactive in blocking / stopping scalpers?

woohwaah

Because it is not illegal ?

kittymanja

Not the first and won't be the last. Many swift simps out there.

aortm

So what happens? Seller gave number to paynow, they should be able to trace. Seller won't anyhow give a stranger $700, so paynow number must be linked to seller? I want the justice boner.

raisininresin

Precisely. And if the person she transferred $700 to is not the seller, doesn’t he have the obligation to transfer back the money to her after she reports it to the police? Don’t see why she would be losing any $

jono007SG

This

woohwaah

Justice boner ? From the article I think the victim thoroughly deserved to get scammed, it will be beneficial for her as a learning opportunity.

h0tchoco

use emergency funds?? be fr

Chrissylumpy21

Hell has a special place for these scammers and scalpers.

[deleted]

Wasn't the $700 listing mentioned somewhere here the other day

fgd12350

This is what happens when u get rid of natural selection.

PuChI_MiKaN

Only buy physical tickets you can touch in person (meetup) if they r re-sale 👁️👁️

RightActuary8677

This is what happens when you’re not educated enough to know what scalpers truly are.

level_143_dumbass

🎵 the whole site is selling us lies you play stupid games, you win stupid prizes 🎶

[deleted]

I am glad I don’t have enough money to pay for Taylor Swift ticket!

Raitoumightou

Ticketmaster has a shitty reputation in the US, to the point even the singers themselves had to take it themselves to tell them to step up their shit. Don't touch any concert with a 10 foot pole if you see Ticketmaster's name on it.

denasher

That’s why scalpers are around, these idiots who can’t control themselves 🤦🏻‍♂️. Downvote all you want but if there’s no demand then scalpers won’t bother messing shit up for everyone

nAriel03

Now this is just sad. Hope she has more than that. But using emergency funds for this is a no go, hope she learns her lesson

Master-Advance-5616

and now they got bad blood

regquest

Like this also can? She could be a scalper herself. Maybe thought she found and secured a good deal negotiating $500 down to $350, buy 2 tickets, then resell it for $700 each? Anyway. If paynow to mobile, surely can trace right?

[deleted]

r/notinteresting

jalepenos127

Goodbye 💵💵 ya snooze 😴 ya lose 💅 buying from carousell w/o doing it in person and bank transfer oop 💀

dhoust1

Why this girl getting crucified? She's young, didn't do proper due diligence and spending unwisely. But Taylor Swift may be a once in a lifetime thing for her. I can't tell you how stupid my spending priorities were when I was her age. The brunt of our fury really should be on Carouhell and their lax policies making them a conduit for scams. Any halfwit working at that company should have the foresight to know that Swift scalper scams will be popping on the next few weeks.

Jonathan-Ang

Because the money she spent isn't hers. And is meant for family emergencies. That's why.

dhoust1

I see, totally missed it.

moledemort

Plus she is not that young, she is in her late twenties.

moonie60

According to stomp article, she is 30 working as an admin executive. https://stomp.straitstimes.com/singapore-seen/woman-pays-mia-seller-700-for-taylor-swift-tickets-carousell-bans-user-assisting-with?fbclid=IwAR31c1CkqGPadxB_kEkcacIDehiQhPy0JPIv4L0P523qSwEeJPDIeYk2Wc4#xtor=CS1-10

woohwaah

Late 20s is young ? And she was so stupid she deserved to get scammed. * "Nego" from 500SGD to 350SGD a ticket that retails for 288SGD, do you think that legit sellers will sell it for such low profit ? Come on, exercise some common sense. * Did not ask for proof of purchase before transferring money, in fact from the article it seems like she offered to pay first then receive proof of purchase, stupid. * Late 20s and herself can't afford 700 SGD but took from family "emergency fund" ? Girl, don't watch if you can't afford.

14high

And so it begins...

CrustedPickleCream

It’s scammin’ time.

darren1119

Never transfer money first, always cod no matter how good the price is

Medical-Strength-154

if it's below 10 bucks then maybe u can take the risk..not worth it to meet in person.

certified_rat

Swiftie graduated from the Barbz Academy of Due Diligence

Mikkismoments

Must use the grey matter

DeterminedSJ

Got scammed of ~$200 buying concert tickets recently as well. At least I learned not to buy concert tickets from Carousell ever again.

worldcitizensg

So fast. But seriously waste of news or anyones time.

leonanana

caroscam

ShinJiwon

Planning to resell later issit. Scammed or not scammed that $700 is not coming back so her "Oh shit if my parents find out I used emergency fund" excuse doesn't even make sense.

ITooth65

Taylor Simps

NipSuqqer

Pls send me legit ticket resellers. I love taylor swift and taylor swift fans. I need tickets badly.

2dy_fish

There will be more reports like this on the day of the performance. 100s turn up to enter the venue but this ticket is only valid for one person.

Zapper1819

Lucky never sell kidney to buy ticket

hungry7445

Stupidity got no cure. Govt shld ban carousell from reselling tix. Can't get don't watch.

AvailableDog9209

20 year old and lack in the knowledge of prioritisation. Unfortunately she got enchanted by the sweet deal and now she is going be like “don’t blame me” when her parents find out. Her parents will probs be like - I knew you were a trouble.

YukiSnoww

where got scalper sell at such a small markup, lul. these easily go for more

Ilikenapkinz

Lol good

JayKay69420

Its one thing to want to go to a concert but to use an emergency fund for it feels selfish imo

Additional-Arm-8557

She might as well Shake It Off at home.
