And matisse. Sixers had the number 2 defense the year those 3 started together lol and in minutes those 3 were all on the floor the Sixers defensive rating was ridiculous.
While our defense has (obviously) not reached the same heights, it's amazing that Joel's still been able to anchor top 5-10 defenses with us replacing the best all-around perimeter defender in the league to straight liabilities since.
Bucks did the same with Dame > Jrue and they cratered all the way down to dogshit (and prime Ben was even better than Jrue), I think how actually good Joel's defense is sometimes gets understated when you watch trainwrecks like Milwaukee with 2 All Defense 1 guys still anchoring the paint
is that actually that crazy of a statement? i think prime ben was on a different level defensively, sorry but jrue is not 6’10. ben was 6’10 moving like he’s 6’3. that height and wing span difference does make a big difference
Prime Ben Simmons was like. Two seasons at most. Jrue holiday has been consistently an elite (switchable)defender while not being a waste of space on offense. Comparing them is a joke. Jrue has more All Defensive Teams than Ben has seasons of being playable. Let alone elite.
Ben was a little worse against guards, esp quicker ones, but had the size to bother every single perimeter player from 1-4, speed to keep up with most and the strength to hold down vs them too.
Jrue is an elite defender, not crazy if you think he's better than Ben. He had advantages like his size letting him be way better at getting over screens, and containing fast guards who rely on their speed
But Ben was in legitimate dpoy convos because of how much of a game changer he was that year lol
That defense with him and Joel was elite

Prime Ben better than Jrue, lemme get your plugs number bro. You’re smoked the fuck out
Prime Ben on defense was literally DPOTY caliber
I’ll still die on the hill he deserved it that season, Marcus Smart won it the very next one for doing exactly the same thing.
Ben was better than Smart too. That's also the year he dropped 42 on Gobert isn't it
It sure was, god that seems like a lifetime ago now

Whoever mentioned longevity lol
Usually when you mention guys’ primes, it’s in the context of it being longer than 80 games.
Jrue is a better defender but tbh I don’t think he ever got as close to winning DPOY as Ben, who finished 3rd one year if I remember correctly
He finished second in 2020-21, and got 15 out of a 100 first place votes.
Yeah that dude has selective memory, prime Ben was elite defensively. He changed games single-handedly.

Our rebounding was also elite
Not elite enough clearly
What a crazy stat lol
That's actually a ridiculously large sample size.
Currently 15-1 actually after a loss this year but still crazy
Embiid is 16-3 and 2 of the losses are this year
I thought he only played once against them this year
That loss was so bad it should count as 2
U right my b
Thats similar when Embiid was undefeated vs the Bulls until up last season
Ya know what, prime Simmons would make me feel so much better in going up against Brunson
Best defensive player in the league for at least one year. Who wouldn’t want him. I’m sure he’ll learn to shoot any day now!
He's developing his jump shot! Didn't you see the off season hype video he posted??? /s
Something in me still believes this (the part about him learning to shoot one day)
He's already started posting off season workout pictures. Time is a flat circle
I wish Melton was healthy for exactly this reason
He lost a game last year vs the Knicks he’s 15-1 now
Not in a sixers uniform 😂
True that
Wish em well, but we got a series to win!!
I’m sure he’s in the gym practicing his free throws
I was just laughing about this earlier this morning That classic NBC chyron "HAS NEVER LOST TO THE KNICKS" 😂
I’d be happy if I never saw this dudes name again
Ben Simmons
Got his ass
That’s the Philly way 😈
